Must-Have Party Decor Trends in 2019

FORECAST: Decor Trends

It’s hard to define what might overshadow beautiful balloons and balloon installations as the next emerging party decor trend.

Balloons have no doubt seen a new life though, with a trend popping up late in the year of shaping and sculpting balloons into objects such as trees, hearts and more.

Enormous and breathtaking tassels such as those seen by Bangin’ Hangin’s and The Color Condition will also continue to excite, with stylists and other creatives pushing into new directions via different materials, 3D effects and sky high limits. The best example of this can be seen by a US-based artist called Corrie in Color, who uses paper to create amazing 3D effects and super tall installations.

Speaking of 3D effects, we can expect to see lots of piñata style diamond hangings and embellishment as we start to use fringed paper in our decor more often.

Hanging objects is another direction which will emerge. In addition, balloons, macramé and various materials will be sculpted to emulate hanging lights.

Lighting itself will be a huge area of exploration. Pushing past marquee lights and neon lights, the influence of the interiors industry will see unique lighting soar, not just in corporate event styling, but also parties. On the furnishings and prop side, velvet and cane and bamboo are highly sought after. Unique chairs, in particular, will trend, with the wire chair look still dominating.

Stylists are definitely not afraid to push boundaries, and even basic objects such as milk crates and cinderblocks will be used in styling.

In terms of new textures, it won’t be uncommon to start seeing terracotta elements in parties, no doubt encouraged by the popularity of Living Coral.

Typography will become centre stage in decor with laser cut letters being attached directly onto walls and adhered to cakes for floating effects.

The 90s and ’00s will be the eras that dominate, however, there will be a slight 50’s tip as the mid-century modern style begins to take hold.
