Publisher’s Letter... Dear Friend, Life is continual change—sometimes desired change, sometimes uninvited; yet, what stagnant, uninspired lives we’d live without it. Change can be glorious: the birth of a child, quitting your job to pursue your life’s passion, redecorating your home, and moving to a new city are all the sorts of new directions we can take that bring joy, excitement, and hope. Yet other new directions can be unexpected and unwelcome, including the death of a loved one, divorce, foreclosure, and job loss. All of these great moments, whether joyfilled or soul-filled, create an opportunity for a new beginning. This month we focus on New Directions and the opportunities for growth through both joyful and painful transitions. I’ve found that an important part of this journey through change is the need to stop, refocus and refresh before beginning again. Because to start in a new direction, another direction must come to an end. It’s in this interim of change, this stopping point, where we can reevaluate, restructure, and regroup before a new beginning. Often, the part of us that is ending is a persona that we have clung to for life. However, what can emerge from what sometimes feels like carnage, is a new, more authentic version of ourselves. We invite you to explore the articles this month on New Directions: one woman’s story of her journey from wife to widow and journaling tips for exploring transition, plus other stories on finding your way through change. And in the process, we hope you find peace and ways to live in the in-between, an important period of all transitions, so you can take action and inspire conscious New Beginnings in your life.

Upon Your Canvas Upon Your Canvas, by Paul Goldman, paintings by Natosha Keefer From cover to enticing cover, step into an endless journey of the soul that dances with words and glides through melodious brush strokes. To explore this creation is to take oneself beyond reading and into a wormhole of vibrant inspiration. Each poem invites the traveler into the depths of the heart, and transports them on the wings of freedom. Free to be true, invoking the deepest, richest corners of their heart to embrace the universe within. Paul Goldman’s poetry does more than reveal a glimpse at our infinite nature; it carries us in and out of the tangible and intangible, the physical and non-physical. From self to spirit to senses to soul and beyond, Paul’s use of words to express is second to none. He offers us a dance through the language of love while at the same time grounding us in a realness that transcends any perception of separation. Paul has a way of offering his audience a taste of his individuality while encouraging the

connectedness in us all. His words carry us into the realm of the Divine, allowing us to co-create a multi-sensory experience. Paul has offered a way for us to read in silence while taking a colorful and explosive adventure at the same time. Natosha Keefer’s remarkable artwork will keep your imagination alive and is delicately yet boldly peppered throughout this creation. Each painting holds a feeling and then lets it go; images appear and transform. Her art is alive, filled with the elements, navigating the observer to their core to discover what is most precious. Treat your senses to this brilliant canvas and allow it to inspire you. Though beware, you may want to sing, you may want to dance, you may grab a canvas of your own and create! I was a happy kid, but a bit shy. I loved nature! I left the noise of the family to sit under a tree with a book, or into the sewing room to watch the sunset. I felt anxious around some of the family and I did not know why; but I did my best to fake it. My parents’ good friends owned the farm behind ours; their girls, older than me, sewed fashion-forward clothing, beautiful indeed. After they outgrew their wardrobe it was sent over in cardboard boxes. I scrambled to grab the best stuff, yet at the same time I felt something I could not describe. I wanted new clothes! Journey to Wholeness

Sea of Change

C

hange is inevitable, and yet it is one of the most difficult challenges. Our physical body, emotions and thoughts change rapidly in the context of an outer environment that is in constant flux. Let’s take a look at change as part of our ongoing daily lives. Think about the last 24 hours, the last week, month or year. Have you experienced any major life changes like death, divorce, separations, injury or illness for you or a family member? Job change or moving? Then there are the everyday things of life like eating, sleeping, hours of working, leisure time activities that may be giving us pain or pleasure. Many of these changes occur during the naturally occurring passages of age and maturation. Nearly 50 years ago, two social scientists, Holmes & Rahe, did a landmark research project on the relationship of stress, life change and health. They devised a list of 43 items describing life events giving each a score ranging from 100 to 11. They asked people to mark down the point value of each of the items that had happened to them in the last year. The results were quite interesting. People with scores of 150 or less, indicating a low amount of life change, had low susceptibility to stress-induced health breakdown. People with scores of 150-300 points had a 50 percent chance of major health breakdown in the next two years, while 300 points or more raised the probability to 80 percent. This research result continues to be predictive today. As we go through the everyday stressors of life, along with the changes of age and maturation, it is important to develop healthy strategies. Andre Gide gives a valuable perspective as we embark on this journey: “One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time.” The first lesson of change is that we are often catapulted into a new place that is unfamiliar and uncomfortable. I often call this “the sea of chaos.” It is important to know that transitions can shake our sense of identity, asking us to

see ourselves in a new and different way. We may feel a sense of anxiety or depression. If we can remind ourselves that this is an opportunity for growth and think positively about the possibilities, we can switch to a more optimistic place. It is also very important to take time for reflection, perhaps recalling other times in our life when we successfully navigated stressful change. Ask for help from others in the form of support or ideas about how they have met challenges. Talking to a trusted person can be a great source of strength. Of course, going back to the basics of exercise, getting enough sleep, eating healthily, taking helpful supplements and taking time for one’s self and time with others, are essential aspects of going through the stress and chaos successfully. Be patient with yourself. Give yourself room for learning; facing what may seem like failures. Remind yourself that you have all the time you need, that discomfort can be a good thing. Keep your goals, expectations and time frames realistic. Be as flexible as you can during this time of change. Use the stress-reducing tools that are calming. If you don’t have any, find someone who can teach you these tools. You can reach the shore of comfort and completion. The swim is really worth it.

Liver Functions Focusing on the liver is a number one priority. The liver has more than 500 functions in our body; so we can only survive 24 hours without liver function. It is among the few internal human organs capable of natural regeneration of lost tissue; as little as 25 percent of a liver can regenerate into a whole liver. But, it is estimated that many people have livers functioning at a 40 percent capacity. A few symptoms associated with liver problems include dis-colored skin and eyes, abdominal pain and swelling, itchy skin, dark urine color, chronic fatigue, nausea, headaches, allergies, digestive upsets, constipation, hypertension, blood sugar problems, and arteriosclerosis. Emotional difficulty related to anger, depression, mood swings, impatience, frustration, resentment, violence, belligerence, rudeness, edginess, arrogance, stubbornness, aggression and an impulsive and explosive personality are all signs of liver problems. Sound familiar? Supporting our liver can help three main functions that protect us from excess estrogen. The liver is the main organ responsible for neutralizing and destroying foreign chemicals or xeno-estrogens. Wrongdiagnosis.com has a list of almost 50 drug combinations that are connected to breast cancer. Another 216 drugs, chemicals, toxins, etc. are listed on the Susan G. Komen website as connected with breast cancer. A weak liver stores many more toxins in our breast tissues and affects the prostate. The liver helps manufacture, break down or metabolize, and regulate numerous hormones. Optimizing the health of your liver will help you with symptoms of menopause, PMS, and irregular menstrual cycles. Breast tenderness, cervical dysplasia, low or absent libido, fat gain, especially around the abdomen, hips and thighs, fibrocystic breasts, hair loss, infertility, insomnia, osteoporosis, polycystic ovaries, uterine fibroids, bloating, and bone loss are all connected to liver function.

Easy ideas for your liver health. Give your liver a break. Fast and meditate or pray one day a month. Moderate your alcohol intake, especially with medications. Drink fresh lemon in your water. Eat cruciferous vegetables: broccoli, spinach, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, onions, leeks and garlic are all necessary for good liver health. Do a liver cleanse at least once a year, recipes abound on the internet. Take supplements. Essential nutrients to help metabolize estrogen are the B vitamins, zinc, omega-3 fish oils, DIM (nutrient found in cruciferous vegetables), green tea, magnesium, selenium, melatonin and Vit. E. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant that aids estrogen elimination. Low vitamin E is associated with elevated estrogen and it has been shown to inhibit the growth of breast and prostate cancer cells. The B-complex vitamins, plus extra choline and inositol, helps the liver break down estrogen into estriol, a non-carcinogenic form of the hormone. KISS or Keep it Simple! Concentrate on keeping your liver working optimally. Your whole body will thank you.

besogens are chemicals in our food or food packaging that cause obesity. "Obesogens are thought to act by hijacking the regulatory systems that control body weight," says Frederick vom Saal, Ph.D., professor of biological sciences at the University of Missouri. "And any chemical that interferes with body weight is an endocrine disruptor.” The Endocrine Society, the largest organization for hormone research and clinical endocrinology, has also noted the connection. "The rise in the incidence in obesity matches the rise in the use and distribution of industrial chemicals that may be playing a role in generation of obesity," it stated in a recent report, "suggesting that EDCs (endocrine disrupting chemicals) may be linked to this epidemic.” Obesogens may be the reason that traditional healthy eating advice, such as choosing chicken and fish over red meat, and eating more fruits and vegetables may not work anymore. So how do we avoid obesogens in our food? Go organic. According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), you can reduce your pesticide exposure by nearly 80 percent simply by choosing organic versions of the 12 fruits and vegetables shown in its tests to contain the highest pesticide load. There's a Clean Fifteen, too, a group of conventionally grown fruits and vegetables with the least pesticide residue. See their website, www.ewg.org for a wallet card to guide you when shopping. Go grass fed. Every time you eat conventionally raised meat, there is an excellent chance you are eating chemicals that cause weight gain. Why? These animals are fed chemicals to promote fast weight gain. When you eat the flesh of these animals, you are eating those chemicals too. I advise finding a source of meat and poultry that is grass fed to point of slaughter. Many animals are fed grass but finished on corn to fatten them up. You’ll benefit from omega-3 fatty acids and the fat soluble vitamins, A,D, E, and K when the animal is fed grass to the end. You may not find this at your grocery store, although some local grocers will special order for you. The Kansas City Food Circle has a directory of local natural and organic food producers at www.kcfoodcircle.org. Stop eating plastic. You didn’t know you were eating plastic, but every time you eat food in a plastic container, or eat food

stored in plastic you get a dose of bisphenol A (BPA) A recent study published on BPA's effects on humans found that workers exposed to BPA at Chinese factories had more than four times the risk of erection difficulties. (Japan reduced the use of BPA in cans between 1998 and 2003; as a result, measures of BPA in some Japanese populations dropped more than 50 percent.) According to the EWG canned chicken soup, infant formula, and ravioli have BPA levels of the highest concern. After people drank out of a polycarbonate bottle (usually stamped with a 7 on the bottom) for just 1 week, their BPA levels jumped by nearly 70 percent, according to a seminal study from Harvard University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. How to avoid BPA? • Don’t microwave or store food in plastic containers. • Avoid plastic wrapped meats. • Avoid canned food unless it’s marked BPA-free. • Don’t drink out of plastic cups and avoid Styrofoam cups. Avoid Soy and Hidden Sources of Soy. Soy is fed to animals to make them fat, thus conventionally raised meat and poultry is a hidden source of soy. When you eat it, it can make you fat, too. Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). The less processed food and beverages you eat, the less HFCS you’ll eat. HFCS creates leptin resistance, which makes you eat more and gain weight. It’s time to accept that much of our food is toxic and find other food sources that keep us healthy and at a normal body weight.

HealthSpan, the holistic medicine practice of Dr. Bethany Klug, is offering some excellent classes this summer to help you reduce your toxic load and add some quick, easy and delicious dishes to you weekly repertoire. Learn more at www.HealthSpanKC.com.

How-To Grill Corn, Pizza,Veggie Kabobs and other Summer Favorites Prepared by Executive Chef Bear Cohen "In the Kitchen with Bonnie" Picnics, Father's Day and other summer celebrations are the perfect times for grilling. These recipes showcase today's versatility in preparing dishes with this ancient method of cooking.

For the Grilled Corn

For the Veggie Kabobs

Ingredients: 1 ear organic corn butter (sweet cream) Salt and pepper Directions: Take ear of corn and peel back the husk, but DO NOT pull off completely. Remove all silk and clean. Generously apply softened butter (not melted) and salt & pepper over kernels. Fold husk back over the corn and place over direct heat on the grill. Turn every couple of minutes. Some of the ears will char…it is O.K. This takes about 10 minutes or so, depending on how hot your grill is. When the kernels are golden and soft, the corn is finished. Pull back the husk and enjoy!

Ingredients: Roma tomato red onion mushrooms sweet peppers zucchini yellow squash ear of corn with husk extra virgin olive oil salt and pepper Directions: Cut corn cob into 1-inch wide slices. Cut all other veggies into similar size (As you cook they will shrink a bit). Start your kabob with the corncob wheel to stabilize your kabobs. Apply all other veggies and end with another corn cob wheel, locking all the veggies into your kabob. Apply extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper and place on grill. Cook to desired temperature.

For the Flat Bread Pizza Ingredients: ¼ cup marinara sauce ½ cup mozzarella cheese fresh spinach artichokes pepperoni pizza sausage grilled steak yellow onions, diced green pepper, diced dried oregano Directions: Place pizza stone on the grill until hot. Take your flat bread or pizza dough and prepare it starting with your pizza sauce. If you’re using flat bread go very sparingly with the sauce—just enough to create the flavor but not so much as to soak the crust. Add a small amount of cheese. Then on the first half of the pizza, top with pepperoni, pizza sausage, onions and peppers. Apply another sprinkle of cheese. On the second half of the pizza, top with fresh spinach, artichokes, grilled steak (cut into thin strips). Top with another sprinkle of cheese. Dust entire pizza with dried oregano to taste. Place on pizza stone and cover grill with lid. After 7-10 minutes, remove from stone and cut into desired pieces. y life has changed in astonishing ways. Two years ago I walked away from a career of 26 years working with emotionally disturbed/behavior disordered children and adolescents. Things had begun to shift in my world to the point that it didn't feel like a good fit anymore. In reality, the shift had started back in 2009 when I had begun to ask myself some tough questions about what direction I wanted my life to take. Did I want to continue doing what I was doing? What did I really want to do? What was the first thing I thought of when I woke up in the morning? What made my heart sing? I knew that I wanted to continue helping people. I knew that I wanted to continue doing seminars and speaking and coaching. How was I going to do all of this and work my full time job? Enter Jack Canfield. I attended Jack's signature seminar called Breakthrough to Success in August 2009. This was the catalyst that led me to becoming a member of his first Success Principles Train the Trainer class. I was coached and mentored by Jack for the next year of my life, and I slowly began my

plan of departure from my old life to the new. Now as life goes, there were many fits and starts. My old self kept trying to hang on to the old directions and do things that were disappearing. There were times I would tell myself an old story that would stop me from moving forward. I would pause for a while and then start again. Eventually the shift was enormous enough that there was nothing left to do but take the leap. That leap occurred March 15, 2013. Now it has been a little over two years; and as I said, my life has changed in astonishing ways. I am traveling most weeks and sharing my gifts with a myriad of folks across the country. Most recently, I attended a weekend retreat with poet and author David Whyte. This event added another layer of thoughtful questions to ponder. Here are samplings of questions from David that will cause you to pause and contemplate your life:

1. What would your life be like if you have as much faith in the parts of yourself that are fading away as you have in the parts of yourself that are growing? 2. What astonishing opportunities could come into your life? 3. What is the difficult harvest in your life? 4. What is the part of yourself that you don't draw on because you think of it as a weakness? 5. What stories in your life are no longer true, or were never true?

Take some time with these questions. As David Whyte said, "The doors have always been there to invite you and frighten you." Give yourself the invitation to examine the hidden landscape of you. Blessings to you.

Change Isn’t a Part of Life, Change IS Life

W

hat do you do when there's a big change coming up in your life? Much depends on your initial reaction to the phrases “new direction,” and “life transitions.” Do you tense up with fear, anxiety and doubt? Or do you feel a quickening of excitement, curiosity and anticipation? Like most things in life, your attitude will determine the ease or difficulty of achieving your goals. I recently went through several major life transitions simultaneously. My ex-husband moved out just as my career as a homeschooling mom was ending. I still had two kids to “launch,” too many possessions to go through and downsize, and an urgent need to find an immediate source of income. On top of that I wanted to blaze a new path for myself, figuring out what I needed to be happy and fulfilled. I'll confess my first reactions were fear, anxiety and doubt. The economy was in the tank; I was in my 50s, and had been out of the workforce for more than 20 years. I worried not only about the future and myself, but also about my kids and theirs. I woke up in the middle of the night doing math in my head. I didn't just worry—I took positive steps. I assessed what I was good at and what I actually liked to do, and through friends and word of mouth I started helping people downsize, purge and reorganize garages, attics, kitchens, offices, whatever. I liked the physical aspect, and the obvious before and after difference I made. I also enrolled at the local college for a paralegal certification. After a semester of that I decided it wasn't something I wanted to do for the long-term, and focused my energy on something else I loved: yoga; as I deepened my practice and pursued first my 200, and then 500-hour teaching certifications, I stopped worrying. I had read somewhere that our bodies don't know the difference between imagined worries and real situations; when you conjure anxiety in your mind your body produces the same stress reactions as it would in an actual dangerous

event. That convinced me to be kind to my body, to change my thoughts when they went “there,” and to begin to trust that everything would work out. Life is just a series of changes. Our first transition happens during birth, as our mothers push us out into the air and we become autonomous, breathing human beings. So many developments occur when we are young, but you never see a baby resisting the next step, fearful or anxious. They reach and try with curiosity and eagerness. As we grow through childhood and adolescence most of us are enthusiastic for what's just around the corner. But as we age, sometimes we forget to be excited about what may happen. We're cynical disguised as “realistic,” and think we know that things won't work out; they'll be hard; we're already exhausted. We know all the statistics and failure rates and how everything is stacked against us. We think the upside of not changing—comfort and security—is greater than the downside: stagnation. One doesn't have to be an Instagram thrill seeker to seize the day and go for the gusto. We all do it in our own way: Maybe you go for a graphic design degree in your 50s; maybe you ditch the suburban house for a city condo. We applaud young adults who take time to volunteer and travel the world, tour the states or start a business; and we say, “That's the time to do it.” With a simple shift in our thoughts we can realize that the time to do it is now, regardless of age. If you treat your turning point as part of your evolution, it becomes an adventure, full of possibility. In my own journey I came across countless affirmations and quotes that helped me realize that I was not sinking or failing, I was growing. A favorite is from Cynthia Occelli: “For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn't

understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.” All manner of life transitions—empty nesting, downsizing, moving, marriage, divorce, a career change, going back to school—are forms of progress. We can ascribe a negative connotation to it, or hold it up as an example of our continued engagement, our very presence. We're trained to be cautious, as if conservatism implies maturity, but maybe it just promotes dullness. One can be responsible and still have some sense of adventure—that tickle of nerves— for life to remain thrilling. It can help to seek out someone who has already been through a similar transition, or someone who is adept at maneuvering certain situations. I sought out other moms whose kids were growing, grown or gone, and talked with them about their next steps and visions for themselves. I started a blog to document the commonalities and support we shared. I journaled like a pro, and could see the recurring themes and issues as my priorities to address. I learned to trust the flow of the universe, recognized my part in it, and witnessed more instances of manifestation than I ever would have believed. Whatever it is you're confronting can and will be resolved in one way or another; nothing stays the

same forever. You can be passive and take a break (I did that for weeks at a time, several times over the years), and see what arises. Something will. You just have to be alert for it. Another quote I go back to frequently, from Joseph Campbell, is a reminder: "If you can see your path laid out in front of you, step by step, you know it's not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That's why it's your path." I hope you are surprised and delighted with the path you decide to take.

Journal Through Life’s Transitions: From Wife to Widow,

M

y husband dropped dead in front of me. That was March 3, 2003, just two months after our 12th wedding anniversary. In the space of time it takes between one breath and the next, life as I knew it was gone. Totally gone. Jim’s death occurred on my first day of full -time employment at FedEx. After a month, I returned to work with a vengeance: 10 and 12hour days? No problem! In 12 months I was promoted to Operations Lead, then Manager. I never stopped moving … and then my mother died. The day after her funeral it was so quiet. The chaos was stilled and I couldn’t stop crying. It kept on for days. I took medical leave, sought therapy and got better. Well, at least better enough to hold it together. Work continued at a hectic pace, but I was becoming more aware of my unhappiness. It was difficult wanting to move on without knowing how. My mantra was, “Just put one foot in front of the other.” I knew that something had to change.

Unhealthy to Healthy, Directionless to Focused

In the summer of 2005 I picked up the book Change Your Life in 30 Days by Rhonda Britten. I did every single exercise in that book! The result? I left my job, sold my house and moved to Kansas City. My two dogs and I arrived in a Penske truck on May 18, 2006. I was still just happy to get through the day without feeling melancholy, and was always on the lookout for something that would help me move forward. Shortly after settling into my new home, I found Jeffrey Gitomer’s book, The Little Gold Book of YES! Attitude, How to Find, Build, and Keep a YES! Attitude for a Lifetime of Success. One of his steps is to “Start your morning with some positive exposure, wisdom, or expressions. First thing. Even if your ass falls off. Fifteen minutes, every day.” I started the next day! There is no way that I can sit and read motivational material without making notes and reflecting on how what I’m reading relates to my life. So, in following Mr. Gitomer’s step, my journaling habit was born. I was on the way to renovating my life, building a new life, but I didn’t know it. Because I hadn’t defined it as journaling, it started in an inexpensive spiral notebook and continues that way today. (Less than 50 cents at the beginning of the school year!) By writing about what Norman Vincent Peale had written, I began to reflect on my life, including how my husband and mother’s deaths had impacted my life. I graduated to reflections on how their lives had impacted my life. A huge step after loss is when you can see the gifts that your loved ones brought into your life. Journaling did that for me. It carried me from one place to another. Gordon MacDonald writes in Ordering Your Private World, “If there was a first step for me in my life-renovation process, it began with a simple, spiral-bound notebook that I came to call a journal.” That is exactly how it was for

EVOLVING…IN KANSAS CITY

me! When this book found me, I had been journaling for at least a year. It challenged me to go deeper and step into the process of rebuilding. I am eternally grateful. A totally different type of shock occurred in 2009 when I lost my health insurance. Rather than freak out totally, I wrote in my journal. It was through journaling about how nervous it made me and going through an arduous series of what-if’s that I decided to look for the lesson in the situation, and realized that my best defense, at the age of 58, was to get healthy. I totally revamped my diet, added in an exercise program, revamped the diet, kept exercising, and revamped the diet again. It was a two-year process that continues today. As my body’s requirements change, so does my diet and exercise. I lost 35 pounds, and I no longer suffer from asthma or arthritis. I feel great! None of this occurred in a vacuum. I was reading and writing about what I learned, how I felt about it, what it was like to cook after so many years of eating the Standard American Diet, questioning everything I read and reading and writing some more. This is how journaling can be valuable, as a tool to work through changes and challenges. It was at this time that I, like so many women in their 50s, began to think about my career: What did I enjoy about my current and past positions? What was I doing when time got away from me? Who did I want to be when I grew up? All of these things were answered in my journal and my career as a Certified Wellness Coach and Educator was born. I returned to school and here I am … Thanks to journaling!

Benefits of Journaling In a 2005 paper put out by the Royal College of Psychiatrists there are long term benefits to journaling. The paper lists numerous studies that show not only psychological benefit but also physical benefit to journaling.

Journaling isn’t about what you begin writing, it’s about building the habit of writing that matters most. It doesn’t matter if it’s a grocery or to-do list, a gratitude journal or, like me, reflections on what you’re reading. JUNE 2015

Spiritual Horoscope

June 2015 Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Happy birthday Gemini! Gain control of your thoughts and make them work for you! Meditate and visualize what you’d like in life, whether job, relationship, self-esteem, finances — whatever! Project thoughts in a specific direction rather than allowing them to be random. Fulfillment comes fast! Also be gentle with your body. Get a massage, take Epsom salt baths and use health affirmations. Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

Like your Gemini friends, this is an extra powerful affirmation time! Prosperity is waiting to fall into your lap if you open your mind to receive. You can have an exciting job offer. You can also heal roots of negative relationship patterns to improve love and kid connections. Meditations are especially deep so dive in and enjoy the bliss!

If feeling money, health or work stress, meditate on the spiritual principle of abundance! Your fears or doubts are not the truth — they just slow the flow. Say “NO!” to limiting thoughts — say it out loud with strength! Then create positive solutions in your mind and dwell there. Even if on a budget, spend fun time with friends and enjoy their love. Seek out new forms of soul connection to tap into the riches within.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22) Venus enters Leo, making you feel extra beautiful and awesome! New relationships start, or current ones get better. You can also magnetize money! Make room for more joy by meditating on family wounds or heartbreaks that create walls. Delve into forgotten areas of your soul, write about them, forgive them and let them go. You’ll be trusting, serene and happy!

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22) Challenge negative thinking! Why give it more attention and time than affirmations? You’re creating your own reality anyway, so take charge of internal world and make it better! Relationships can bring worry right now, so meditate on what positive shifts you’d like. Release past patterns (they aren’t blueprints for the future!) and write a new soul plan for love and joy!

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) You’re suspicious when things come too easily, but expect extra success at work. You deserve it, and have struggled spiritually these past two years — open up to your rewards! Relationships heal in terms of trust, money, intimacy and sexuality. Again — let it all in! It’s also a good time to discipline yourself for better health. You’ll be able to stick with the release of bad habits in terms of food, fitness, relationships or self-esteem.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21) Make this a great relationship month by releasing resentments caused by unfulfilled expectations. Meditate and write about deep soul needs, so you can discern from shallow desires (or even inherited family issues which keep you attracting trouble!) You’ll know if you need to move on or just

reframe your mind and heart. Also, new forms of spirituality re-invigorate your growth. Travel if possible, even if a day trip.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19) Venus and Jupiter combine for a sensuous month! Explore spiritual sexuality, like Tantra or Chinese Taoist practices. Visualization can also bring financial abundance as well as love and trust. You can receive gifts of money! Honor your body as your temple and treat it well with good food and enough rest, so you’ll have energy for work and play!

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18) Like Capricorn friends, you’ll have a sexy month! Relationships are loving and easy. Someone new feels like from a past life. Current partnerships have joyous renewal. Meditate on finances and career. Visualize changes, listen for guidance, and take action steps. Go over your budget and see what expenses are unnecessary. You’ll feel wealthier from saving!

desires that swirl in your head causing obsession and resentment. Release them, knowing the Universe will fulfill them in the future as you forgive. Now affirmations can create a new Life Plan from your heart’s cravings. Be open to unexpected surprises that bring joy you long for!

Taurus (April 20 – May 20) This is a prosperous and happy time! Have a party or gathering so loved ones can enjoy the serene energy in your home, and you can soak in the vibes of your “spiritual tribe”. Meditate each day to keep soulful feelings flowing in your house, and also at work. You’ll have a calm aura that blesses whichever environment you’re in. If relationships seem tense, ponder being more flexible. Break old patterns the no longer serve both of you.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20) Work on healthy boundaries. You can still be loving while setting limits. It could bring up old fears from childhood, but as you do it anyway, you’ll become empowered! Be aware of channeling nervousness into overeating. Devote time each day to your spiritual practice for added soul strength. Work wise, you can get a raise, a new job, or meet a kindred spirit who inspires you.

Aries (March 21 – April 19) Affirmations are a powerful way to cleanse your subconscious and heal old wounds. But beforehand, meditate on unfulfilled
