Dear Friend, Abundance, the theme this month, is so deeply connected to the emotion of gratitude. There is a wonderful cycle to success: abundance creates gratitude, and gratitude creates abundance. When I look at my life I see the beauty, love and joy that surrounds me. And for this I am eternally grateful. For myself, reflecting on gratitude is especially prevalent this time of year. With the addition of a new grandson in October, I am reminded more than ever of the abundance of love and opportunity that surrounds me. And, as always, I am overwhelmingly joyed by the help I receive with this magazine, the advertisers who support it and the readers who thrill me with their feedback. This special issue contains a Holiday Gift Guide on page 10 that highlights unique, non-traditional and inspirational gift ideas. I hope you’ll take some time to peruse these interesting gift options for your holiday shopping. Or, gift yourself with a treat during the sometimes hectic holiday season. And hopefully, feel the gratitude which reaps abundance in all aspects of your life.

On the Cover: Karrie Marie Baxley’s piece, Milan’s Heart, explores a personal relationship with Love. The painting is of a beautiful young European man she met in Peru at the top of Machu Piccu. The language of Love was the essence of this young man, represented in the union of the natural world and man. The divine heart from within expanding outwards in physical union to the all. Karrie believes the greatest source of abundance comes from Love, the realm of the heartspace. View Karrie’s gallery at www.kmariearts.com.

New Documentary Film Reveals the Science Behind Psychic Phenomena SOMETHING UNKNOWN IS DOING WE DON’T KNOW WHAT… Featuring Prof. Charles Tart, Dr. Dean Radin, Prof. Gary Schwartz, Dr. Larry Dossey, Dr Edgar Mitchell, Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, Dr. Melinda Connor, Dr. Roger Nelson, Dr. Hal Puthoff, Dr. Eric Pearl, Arielle Ford, and more. Can we predict the future? Can our thoughts and intentions affect the physical world? Can we be spontaneously “healed” from fatal illnesses? Do we have the power to read minds? Are we “energetically” connected? Is there a guiding force orchestrating the universe? In a new award-winning documentary film, Something Unknown is Doing We Don’t Know What… (Beyond Words), Dutch filmmaker Renée Scheltema explores these questions and more with a fascinating look at the world of psychic phenomenon. In her film, the world’s leading experts, authors, psychics, frontier scientists, Parapsychologists, physicians and more reveal the cutting-edge scientific studies behind paranormal experiences and psychic phenomenon. “A series of strange and curious incidents happened to me over a very short period of time that could not be explained by rational thought or coincidence,” shares Scheltema. “I was baffled and wanted to know is this real? How and why did it happen?” Her personal quest to understand these curious, psychic events resulted in her inspiring and original film which has been selected and screened at various film festivals worldwide including the Sante Fe Film Festival and it’s playing for an exclusive nine-day run beginning October 21st at the Smith-Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, CA. SOMETHING UNKNOWN features impressive stable of expert contributors including; Professor Charles Tart, Dr. Dean Radin, Dr. Eric Pearl, Dr. Larry Dossey, Dr. Roger Nelson, Dr Rupert Sheldrake, Stephen Schwartz, Dr Edgar Mitchell, Dr. Eric Pearl, Dr. Hal November 2009

Puthoff, Psychic Detective Nancy Meyer, John of God, and Author Arielle Ford. According to Professor Tart, Prof. Emeritus at UC Davis and currently a professor at The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, “There are hundreds of experiments demonstrating the reality of psychic experiences; the ones that are acknowledged by any reasonable criteria of science I call the Big 5.” Tart explains that there are rigorous and controlled scientific experiments documenting the BIG 5 which he identifies as: Telepathy—mind reading or mindto-mind communication. Clairvoyance (Remote Viewing)— the psychic ability to perceive remote places, objects or people. Precognition—the ability to predict or “see” the future. Psycho-kinesis (Telekinesis)– mind over matter or the ability to move/effect objects with the power of thought or intent. Psychic Healing—a spiritual practice that may incorporate energy and is known for miraculous cures outside of traditional medicine. SOMETHING UNKNOWN explores these five areas of psychic phenomenon and investigates: the power of energy healing, remote viewing, psychic archaeology, faith healing, Random Number Generators, psychic detective work, therapeutic touch and mind reading. Woven with intriguing personal accounts, it sheds light on the mysterious world of the paranormal— previously disregarded or ignored by mainstream western science—

revealing that science and spirituality are no longer mutually exclusive. Whether you call it zero point, spirit, universal energy, G.O.D or universal consciousness, SOMETHING UNKNOWN uncovers this unseen force and seeks to redefine consciousness as we know it. It takes us on a spiritual journey where the boundaries of the unknown and known are merging and providing us with the leading studies and evidence pointing towards an understanding or truth that perhaps we are all interconnected and part of something greater than ourselves. As the sixth man to walk the moon, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, founder of the Institute for Noetic Science shares his profound epiphany in space, “Returning to Earth from space I realized that the molecules of my body and the stars are the same, I had this life-changing feeling of connection with the star systems that created the matter in our bodies and felt a bliss I had never known…I have come to realize this… Perhaps this is our evolutionary destiny, provided we survive that long.” SOMETHING UNKNOWN is now available on DVD and can be purchased by visiting: www.somethingunknown.com. Running time: 105 minutes. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER Renée Scheltema is a Dutch documentary filmmaker and photographer. For 25 years Renée has worked for Dutch television as a director, producer and cameraperson. Some of her documentaries, like “Hush, A portrait of Tracy Payne”, “Seven Days in Burma”, “The Death Penalty”, “Portrait of A Zen couple”, “The Bus” were selected at international film festivals. In 1996 she founded Telekan films. As a photographer, Renée has been working for magazines and newspapers in Holland, the US, and South Africa. Christian Mysticism By Mother Clare Watts A renewed interest in Christian mysticism is emerging in the Western world; and, it comes at a time when church attendance and membership are at all-time lows. What are people finding in mysticism that they are not finding in the churches? Mysticism has never been about theological concepts and rules for “good” behavior. It is not about how to earn heaven or avoid hell. Mysticism always is about a soul’s profound and heartrending relationship with God. Why are mystics’ relationships with God always profound; and, why does it break their hearts? When you stumble upon the truth that God is living, in all God’s glory, right inside of you; or when you find God after a long journey of deepening, silencing and opening—and finally enter into the Great Love that is God—it is without exception the

deepest and most overpowering experience you can ever have. To experience the presence and reality of God, and to experience that this immense and all-knowing Being has an individual knowing and love for you, will break your heart open and submerge it in the most wonderful new life that in comparison makes all previous knowing and living seem meaningless and dull. Once you are touched and opened by that warmest and greatest of loves, nothing in the worlds of matter or spirit looks the same. Now everything has the tincture of the divinity and the love, affecting how you understand, relate to and feel about it. Nature looks more magnificent, material pursuits more spurious and human beings can no longer be thought of as anything less than sons and daughters of God in the making. You will see all people in terms of how close or far they are from God and God’s love

rather than by any other ways you would have understood them before. And all human love will pale in the face of experiencing the love God has for you. Christian mysticism is no different from any other mysticism in that its central element is this love relationship with God. However, it is different because of the place that Jesus and Mother Mary hold in the aspirants’ hearts, minds and practices. Christian mystics have found that the help of these two great beings makes it possible for them to move through all the obstacles that previously kept them from having the direct experience of God. The road toward that union in love is fraught with many diversions, distractions and concepts that must be overcome to arrive at the deepest chambers of this interior life. Forgiveness of self and others is paramount to the journey, as are release of all

A Deeper Look at our Blessings This food is the gift of the whole universe, the earth, the sky and much hard work. May we live in mindfulness as to be worthy to receive it. May this food help us transform our unskillful states of mind and learn to eat in moderation. May this food nourish us and prevent illness. May we accept this food to realize the path of understanding and love.

We’re dealing with some hefty problems in our communities and our world. The simplest solutions are often the most difficult to see and one of the simplest may be what we choose to eat. With this in mind, I offer these words to contemplate as you shop, cook and feast this Thanksgiving.

Aware that this food shapes my body substance and the way I relate to myself and the world, I aspire to eat only foods that nourish me in the amounts I need, no more, no less. 3. Aware that food can be raised in ways that minimize harm to the planet and its inhabitants, I aspire to choose my food carefully so that everyone and everything may experience the health and wholeness I seek for myself.

If you remember gratitude, intention, support and unity, you can create your own blessings, or feel less awkward when asked to offer one. Thanksgiving is no longer a harvest celebration. The days of surviving on what you grow, gather or hunt are gone. Foods once available

By Bethany Klug, DO The first Thanksgiving celebrated by the Plymouth Colony in 1621 was part of a long tradition of harvest feasts. It was an expression of gratitude, celebrating an abundant growing season after a particularly difficult winter. I’m sure they offered a blessing before they savored the meal. I enjoy pausing, at the very least, to express gratitude for the meal I am about to enjoy. I may simply bring my palms together and bow or I may offer a prayer. A meal blessing does several things. It expresses gratitude, sets an intention and calls for support. When shared with a group of people it unites them as friends, family or community. Here’s a blessing I recite often with these qualities:

Raw Foods in a Nutshell (Raw, Unroasted) by Rod Rotondi Some people think raw food is a new thing—a cutting-edge way of eating, newly discovered by scientists or Hollywood trainers for optimal beauty and health. In fact, a raw diet is not new. It is not the latest fad. Hominids have evolved over seven million years, and for the vast majority of that time we ate only raw, living foods. The raw-food diet is about getting natural— about rediscovering the natural way for humans to eat. Because despite all the knowledge of humankind—all our science and technology—what will make us healthiest and happiest is to eat the foods that nature, in its wisdom, has provided. This original and longest-lasting human diet comprises primarily fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and greens. This is the way our ancestors ate until the relatively recent discovery of fire. The Organic Choice A raw-food lifestyle is about eating pure food from nature and giving ourselves the best food possible, so the choice to eat organic foods is fundamental. While the cost for organic products is a little higher, I view it as money I won’t have to spend on visits to my doctor. We can choose foods that have been treated with herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides (I call this slow suicide), or we can choose unadulterated, living, vibrant foods from nature. November 2009

Evolving…

The Vegan Choice The vast majority of raw foodists are vegans. If you haven’t heard, there is a lot of new data pointing to the incredible health benefits of a vegan diet. Check out The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. It’s a book about possibly the most comprehensive study of human nutrition ever undertaken, which concluded that, in Dr. Campbell’s words, “People who ate the most animal-based foods got the most chronic disease... People who ate the most plant-based foods were the healthiest and tended to avoid chronic disease.”

According to the American Diabetes Association, vegetarian diets are associated with a reduced risk for obesity, coronary artery disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, colorectal cancer, lung cancer and kidney disease. Additionally, virtually every health organization in existence advocates eating more fresh fruits and vegetables. Then there is the ethical side. It’s a nice feeling to finish a delicious, nutritious and satisfying meal knowing that no animal had to be born, bred and killed in miserable conditions so you could eat. The raw-food lifestyle is all about reestablishing our connection to our food and the planet. Raw food is more than just a cuisine—it’s a lifestyle. It is part of a more holistic way of looking at the world and our relationship to it. Nature is something we are part of, not something to be overcome. Rod Rotondi is the author of Raw Food for Real People and his Los Angeles–area Leaf Organics restaurants are leaders in the raw food and green movements. He also has a raw-food prep DVD, teaches “uncooking” classes, and is working on a television series. Visit him online at http://www.leaforganics.com. holistic wisdom

Want to discover greater happiness? Play like a child! By Carmelita Beets As responsible adults, there are many things we know we must do to take care of ourselves. We know it’s important to eat nutritious, healthy foods, exercise regularly, keep our minds active and challenged and nurture relationships with family and friends. There’s something else that’s critically important to our wellbeing though… something that many adults frequently ignore, overlook, or forget about completely. It’s something that’s as easy as child’s play. In fact—it is child’s play. It’s spending time doing whatever it is that fills you with joy, wherever you can lose yourself. By playing, we keep the magical child alive that lives within us. What kind of play nurtures the childlike magic that lives within you? For some, it’s singing, dancing, or playing a musical instrument. Others lose themselves in gardening, creative writing,

sewing, or scrapbooking. Perhaps you find joy and relaxation doing photography, creating wonderful meals, or spending time with animals. I tap into that child-like magic every evening when I spend time drawing and painting mice, cats, fish, and other animals and characters. These animated creatures have been a part of my imagination since I was a very small child. For many years as an adult, though, I pushed that part of my imagination aside and focused on my work, my responsibilities, my goals and the day-to-day stresses of life. I abandoned the child within me—and along with it, I forfeited the joy that child could bring to my life. One day, it occurred to me that something was missing from my life— something that could bring me great happiness. I realized that I had stopped

playing! So I picked up my pencils and watercolors…and immediately felt my heart and soul filled with the essence of childlike magic. Whether I work on it for 15 minutes or for a few hours, I now make my artwork a part of my life every day. I feel quite certain that my experience is something shared by many others. It’s so easy to get caught up in our jobs, making money, various projects and family obligations. We forget that we have an obligation to ourselves to be happy! We forget that we all have the capacity to experience child-like wonder and happiness. And we forget—or don’t believe—how much we need child-like magic in our lives. Sometimes people joke about getting in touch with their inner child. But, in truth, it’s one of the most important

things you can do! I hope you’ll take the time to discover the childlike magic and simplicity that’s inside of you and give yourself the time to bring it out. You might already know exactly what you’d like to do. If not, start by thinking about the things you loved doing as a child. You can get more ideas by walking through a hobby store, taking a class, or reading some books. And then, just experiment and give some things a try! Soon enough, you’ll know what really transports you to a special state of happiness. Carmelita Davis-Beets is a natural healer living in Kansas City. journey to wholeness

Let the Holidays Begin! By Jude LaClaire, Ph.D. One of my fondest memories in high school occurred when my journalism teacher surprised us at one class in October by having the room festooned with holiday decorations and playing Christmas music. She then explained that she was getting us in the ‘mood’ for writing the holiday edition of our quarterly newsmagazine. At that time, so long ago, Christmas promotion didn’t usually start until after Thanksgiving. Imagine that today. It has galloped backwards to haunt us before Halloween! What does this do to your psyche as you are launched into Christmas songs, ads and decorations for a period of two months or more? Check out your memories of that “best” Thanksgiving or Christmas and, your “worst”. I imagine you might have more on the down side than the upbeat. I know I do. Not that I have had such a hard life, it is just that my holiday expectations have most often exceeded what actually happened. Expectation can open the Pandora’s box of all the literary, musical, religious and commercial images and experiences of the holidays. We see the “perfect Thanksgiving or Christmas” with the perfect turkey and all the trimmings.

Around the table the perfect family is seated with everyone having a wonderful time celebrating this event. Most likely you have had holidays ranging from quite happy to miserable. I remember some grand ones going to our aunt’s and uncle’s farm to spend the day with our many cousins, aunts and uncles. Then I remember the first of many holidays away from home after high school. Many were quite stark and lonely. There were the years when my child was small. Children always give holidays a boost and we have a renewed excitement as we see it through their eyes. Holidays make us aware of losses in our lives—death, divorce, ill health, people living in other places, strained relationships—all these things can make a holiday harder. But the standard is always the image we hold in our head of that really great holiday we experienced or the one we imagine will finally happen. As you anticipate the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday celebrations, it might be a good idea to take a little inventory of what kinds of expectations you have. Some suggest that we should set the bar a little lower by having fewer expectations, making

them more realistic, balanced and reasonable. Another thing that would be very helpful is to make a list of guidelines to get you through the next few months as a happier, healthier person. Here are some suggestions you might include. • Make sure you are taking care of yourself. (See a great list in the October Evolving, “Lose the Blues”.) • Let go of the expectations of perfection. • Keep it simple, make it doable. • Avoid listening to Christmas music until, maybe, a few weeks before the date! • Remember there is no correct or right way to do things (even if your family did it that way). • Let victims and martyrs be “heroes” of another saintly age, not for you. • Plan ahead, think about and discuss with family or friends what the real purpose of the celebration is for this family or group. • Let the spirits be less of alcohol, partying and sweets and more of your spirit of gratitude, giving and receiving. • Delegate—who cares who gets

• • •

credit? Let go of the past. Be aware of finances. What is the true spirit of giving? Be aware of your feelings and those of others, no need to deny feelings of sadness or gladness.

Take that deep breath, knowing that you can take whatever time you need to do what needs to be done, calling on all the help you need. Perhaps you will do better than surviving the “holiday stress” and have a good time by balancing time alone and time with those you love. Share the spirit that is created together with a little more planning, a little more awareness and a lot of open, forgiving hearts. Happy holidays! Abundance is at Hand

Abundance… “We all acknowledge that we do not get what we want; however, we ALWAYS get the sum of our thoughts, emotions, words, and actions!” ~Andy Feld, author, andyfeld.net "When you're down to nothing, God is up to something!" ~Merry Miller, GodsSocialNetwork.com "Know that as we can relax into the larger context we will attract and create our lives from the vibration of more possibilities." ~Dr. Jennifer Howard, www.DrJenniferHoward.com "Fear is an illusion. Rejection a state of mind. Success a matter of focus." ~Lynne M. White, Revenue Expert, www.lynnemwhite.com

By Bonnie B. Matheson What signifies true Abundance? Is it things? Is it the newest clothes or gadgets? When you know what true abundance is and you can go for it, your life will settle down. So how do you know? Well, who do you love? That is a good way to start. Start with your family, then go to other people you care about and then to the things that create a feeling of completeness. Last weekend we had a family wedding. And the love and good feeling that abounded on that day was palpable. Family can be a problem for some people. But on the day of the wedding, all of my children were brought together in love and good feeling. They are all lovely people. My new daughter in law’s family are a good fit with our own. Their values and ideals match our own so well that it seems like a match made in Heaven. As I watched this couple pledge their love to each other, I was struck by the sincerity and wisdom they showed in the way they said their vows. They were each being married for the second time. They have children by former spouses. Now they are a family of seven with three girls and two boys. The children miraculously get along well—they actually like each other. This did not happen by accident. First of all it started with a feeling of positive vibes. My son expected to like his girlfriend’s children and so he did. She is a woman full of love and patience and optimism. He adores his own two daughters, but has always wanted a son of his own. SudNovember 2009

Evolving….

denly he was presented with two: one 14 and a five year old. Also, he now has a new 10 year old daughter. With the boys, he now has a son who is a lacrosse player, which is my son’s favorite sport. And the younger one is a handful, whom many people might find difficult. My son, however, loves dealing with a boy of this sort because it reminds him of his own much younger brother. All the traits that seem somewhat outlandish to a few people, look normal to this new father. And the boy is responding to the affection he feels coming his way from his new step-father. The size of this new family is abundant and the love they share fills in the gaps of a blended family. They have each other now. They are launched on a whole new life filled with warmth, fun, love and understanding. Many of us are so busy worrying about what we don’t have that we completely miss all the things we have at our fingertips. People who have been diagnosed with Cancer say that all of a sudden they notice things every day that were simply overlooked when all they thought about was the next business appointment, the bills to be paid or things they wanted but did not have. Living in the moment causes a feeling of satisfaction and purpose. The colors of a flower, the intricate veins in a leaf, the smell of breakfast cooking, the softness of a dogs fur, the purr of your car’s engine, the touch of a loved one, the warmth of a hug—all these add moments of pure joy to life. One of the most overlooked joys in life is the weather and “nature” which surrounds us. Every day you are given a new

set of cloud formations, a fresh new breeze, or a stillness in the air. Each day finds the sun at a new angle and the moon waxing or waning or gone, giving us a better view of the stars at night. Slight changes in the brightness, flowers opening or wilting, buds beginning to show or leaves falling from the trees, all of these are a constant and ever-changing panorama. We pay nothing for this and it regenerates our spirits. If we are religious, we thank God for this beauty; and, if we are not, this may cause us to take stock of our spiritual values. Attitude is everything; and, you get to choose which one you will adopt. You are totally in charge of what you think at any moment. Yes, it takes effort sometimes to stay focused on the moment. But anything worth doing is worth a little effort. The results will be rewarding to you and everyone with whom you come in contact. I challenge you to discover all the ways your life is filled with abundance and joy. Focus on that and you will find a new purpose in every day that you are alive. Bonnie B. Matheson is one of the leading authorities on women over 50. She is an in-demand life coach, and motivational speaker. She is the founder of I Bet You Can LLC a coaching plan for men and women who think maybe they can’t go on. She is a leader in helping women travel seamlessly into the second half of life. Working with her will help you manifest a happier, healthier more peaceful life. www.ibetyoucan.net

“You create abundance when you learn to give without seeing your gift as a sacrifice. It is the paradox of being both empty and full at the same time.” ~DeAndra Ransom, www.MilestoneNetwork.org “To create abundance in any area of your life, you must clearly define what abundance means to you. If you don’t define it, you won’t recognize it and there is no greater misfortune then being abundant and not knowing it!” ~Stephanie Florman, Spiritual Teacher, www.StephanieFlorman.com "Creating Abundance starts in the mind where you change your thoughts, moves into your body when you take action and frees your soul from doubt and debt." ~Derrick Hayes, Encouragement Speaker, www.DerrickHayes.com If you're focused on what you don't have, you don't notice what you do have; and, you can never live an abundant life. ~David Couper, Career Coach, www.davidcoupercoach.com

Tell your lover, and anyone else you care about, that you regret their misfortunes and sufferings. Feel free to apologize for the pain life itself may have caused them, if it seems appropriate. You can apologize for anyone, for anything, without taking the guilt or blame on yourself, and your apology will have value. Think of apology as the expression of regret rather than acceptance of blame. Remember that only about one out of every thousand needed

The following is excerpted from Wild Attraction: A Ruthlessly Practical Guide to Extraordinary Relationship (Chelsion Press/ November 2009). Everybody needs positive messages, and no living creature possessing a personality can escape this fact any more than a sentient being living in a human body can deny that body’s need for physical food. Equally important, negative messages are poison to the personality; they starve and deform it. It is therefore the business of all sentient creatures to avoid both internalizing negative messages themselves and offering a negative message as sustenance to any other person. Each person must receive at least five key kinds of positive messages every day. In addition, the genders each have their own set of message requirements. They are vital to the creation of powerful intimacy and are just one of many vastly underestimated stumbling blocks relating to need on the path to great intimacy. Despite the fact that these messages are obviously and desperately needed by everyone, our culture at present shows little consciousness of this basic fact of human life, and most people deliver only a fraction of the number of messages truly called for. We would do well to be sending positive messages to everyone around us, and especially to our mates, whenever such messages are true. The necessary five messages are given here. They tend to build on one another in a hierarchical way— for example, most people need to feel seen before they can really hear an apology. That said, each message is a stand-alone, and all are equally important. I see you. Tell your lover, and everyone else in your life, that you see them fully and completely. Then tell them exactly what you really do see. Let

apologies is ever conveyed in our world. You are loved and a part of the pack. pack The third message to give freely to everyone is the message of unconditional love. I always think of this message in concrete terms. I want people to know that if I were the helmsman of a crowded lifeboat in frothy green stormy seas, and if they were to fall over board, I would go back for them. This third message is, therefore, a lifeboat message for me, rather than a syrupy declaration of emotion. The message you give your lover is an ultimate version of this message; it is both beyond gender and highly sexualized, and the pack is the couple itself. When expressed to the rest of the world, the message is free of gender

I appreciate your contributions and achievements. ments People need to hear that they are appreciated for their contributions, achievements, and victories. Here too, people rarely receive the messages that they have earned. Moreover, most of the incredible feats achieved by human beings are internal. People suffer in silence, they struggle internally, they face demons and dig deep inside for hidden resources, and it is almost all hidden from view. Great things happen inside the human heart. Look there and don’t hold back when you perceive something wonderful or amazing in your fellow creatures. You are safe with me and from me. Finally, people need to hear that they are safe, really safe. Watch over them, and tell them that you are doing so. Incredibly, many people I meet have never been effectively told that safety exists. Most people believe only in degrees of jeopardy and live in degrees of greater or lesser anxiety, but never in true relaxation. The assurance of safety is a vital and wonderful resource that we need to share with one another. A great many contentious behaviors in the world are attempts to compensate for the lack of needed messages. People ask for raises because they haven’t been told they are appreciated. People sue other people because they haven’t received an apology. They destroy and even murder because they have never felt seen, and it seems as though any attention is better than none. Knowledge of the messages and their role in human life is one of the simplest and most precious things to have come my way in a lifetime on this path. It is the most needed idea about need. I hope it gets passed along. Evolving…

Abundance and the Spiritual Realm By Diane Edmiston When working with my clients in giving them the divine messages from the spiritual realm, the question often comes up about abundance. The Archangels, angels and Ascended Masters have a few suggestions about abundance, the lack thereof and how to get more. The initial suggestion from the spiritual realm is that if we do what we love, with love and service in our hearts, divine blessings of abundance will flow. It is the Law of Attraction in its most pure form. If we focus on service, we are well taken care of. If we are serving our spiritual purpose, abundance follows a steady flow to us. Perhaps it won’t always be money. Perhaps it will be gifts, food, more clients and extra hours; but, it is always what we need and we know we are taken care of. For example, as I was starting out in my spiritual counseling endeavor, I asked a few friends if I could practice with them. As I worked with these wonderful spiritual “guinea pigs”, they began to buy me meals and send me gifts and gift cards in gratitude. I realized that while I may have been giving my services away, I was still being “taken care of”. While this is a great example of karmic balance, many of us still go through major money issues. We get up to our elbows in debt, things November 2009

break and break down all at once; and, suddenly we owe more money than we make in a week. Once started, this cycle seems to go on for a while and it is hard to stop. The spiritual realm has a few offerings on this subject, as well. When this happens, they suggest looking at our words, our attitudes, our thoughts. As more and more debt piles up, do we say things like “What else can go wrong?” Take a moment and think about those words. They are actually inviting more things to break down and more debt to accrue. Perhaps when things are going well, we become afraid that we will see a lull in our financial state again. And, lo and behold, there it is—the dreaded lull. Or perhaps we engage in conversation about the bad state of the economy or how slow other businesses are and our attitude becomes one of blame; blaming the government or someone else. All of these situations lead to lack of abundance and a lower energy. It is difficult to manifest higher energy items, such as abundance, when we are vibrating in a lower energy frequency. As Archangel Gabriel often tells my clients, “Mind your mind.” She means that when we find ourselves buying into the fear-based thoughts and feelings about money, we must shift our thoughts and words immediately to ones of faith, love and abundance. A few affirmations she

suggests are: “I have everything I need to take care of myself, my family and my debts.” “Abundance flows to me easily.” “I trust that, as I fulfill my spiritual purpose, my needs will be met with abundant love.” There is one other side note to this topic that the spiritual realm would like to address. If you have taken care of all of your fear-based thoughts and words about money and you are still struggling, there is the possibility that you have brought with you, into this lifetime, some karma dealing with lack. For example, I know of a woman who completely changed every thought, word and belief she had about money and still, she made just enough to survive, but never enough to save. When she worked

with a spiritual counselor, they discovered that, in another lifetime, she had been a monk and had taken a vow of poverty. If this resonates with you, as well, the spiritual realm suggests to set new intentions and affirmations for yourself in this lifetime. Ultimately, the lessons from the divine are these: Do what you love, serve others and yourself by fulfilling your spiritual purpose. Set clear intentions about abundance and affirm them to yourself everyday. But most of all, the message is to love yourself as much as the spiritual realm does to know that you deserve abundance in all of its loving forms. ABUNDANCE SHIFTING

By Natalie George When you hear the word abundance, what do you think it means? Most would probably say that abundance is having a “bunch of stuff”. People have a lot of stuff already and in that sense alone, abundance does not seem all that great. I have more clothes and shoes than I realistically need, yet I’m not feeling abundant because of that. So what if there is more to abundance than simply owning stuff? Earlier this year, I participated in a workshop on abundance called The Abounding River Workshop. It promised to provide an unfamiliar view of abundance and I must say it delivered. It was at this workshop that I began to practice being abundant. That might sound weird to “be abundant”; but, consider that being abundant is just as much our right as being happy. So what does it look like to be abundant? Abundance is to trust and know that we are provided for in all ways—love, health, money, shelter, friends and family. What if one of our main jobs in life is to keep the abundance flowing? What will our experience of life be like if we trust that we are always provided for? It seems as if we are automatically born into a view of scarcity—a view of not enough time, not enough money, not being good enough, not being smart enough and not being attractive enough. We operate like this view of life is the truth; and, we usually respond with worry, stress or fear. What if scarcity is just a view of life and not the truth? What if it is a belief that has been formed into a habit and passed on from generation to generation? What if practicing a new habit of being abundant shifts the experience of life from worry, stress and fear to peace, trust and comfort in knowing we are provided for? The only way you are going to know what it is

Feng Shui for Holiday Harmony If you’ve always hated what you’ve done for past holidays, love yourself enough to stop the madness this year. You don’t have to put up a Christmas tree; you really don’t have to do anything. Let your holiday expression take its own course. And be creative!

letter writing (and all the chaos and disorder that go with) should take place in an area separate from your Living Room (where you relax with guests) or your Bedroom (where you rest and rejuvenate). Just like Feng Shui dictates you separate the Bathroom (life-eliminating energy) from both the Bedroom and the Kitchen (areas of life-sustaining energy), then any inherently chaotic activities should not be set up in areas where relaxation is the prime intent. Give yourself the gift of a dedicated, out-of-the-way location for holiday tasks that necessarily create disarray.

By Liz Brown When chaos seems to rule at holiday time, know that you can turn to basic Feng Shui principles to help regain a sense of harmony in your surroundings. • Perform space clearing, as appropriate. Consider burning smudge sticks throughout your home. Typically bundles of sage, often mixed with other herbs, are available at area metaphysical shops and health food stores. When burned, the smoke carries aloft old energies, cleansing negativity and discord from the space. Consider this ritual both before and after holiday gatherings. Prior to holiday mingling, set your intention for vitalizing chi within the space. Following any gathering, particularly with fractious family, space clearing can remove particles of lingering dissonance. • Buy and use your candles with intent. November 2009

Given your stated intention, choose candle colors according to colors of the bagua (the Feng Shui template used in analyzing a space): Prosperity (purple), Fame and Reputation (red), Relationship (pink), Creativity and Children (white), Helpful People and Travel (gray), Career (black), Knowledge (blue), Health and Family (green). Then, after consciously choosing your candles, invoke Feng Shui’s Three Secrets Reinforcement to enhance your outcome. Incorporating the energy inherent in actions, in words and in thoughts (all three) makes your ‘cure’ triply effective. That’s the power of the Three Secrets Reinforcement—body, speech and mind. That is, take an action (light the candle), speak your intention and visualize your outcome. • Maintain separate areas for separate energies, a basic Feng Shui principle. At holiday time, this means that the accoutrements of gift wrapping, card and

• Give yourself permission to create YOUR OWN holiday expression. Consider putting a little piece of Christmas in every room, instead of putting up just one big tree. You could weave a holiday theme throughout your home with several small trees or several small altars or several small collections of holiday accessories at featured locations. Why not?

If you’ve always hated what you’ve done for past holidays, love yourself enough to stop the madness this year. You don’t have to put up a Christmas tree; you really don’t have to do anything. Let your holiday expression take its own course. And be creative! • Maintain a post-holiday aura of thriving ch’i for optimum health and prosperity. That means, keep your Christmas decorations up (or some portion of them) all year ‘round. I’m thoroughly convinced that the “post-Christmas blues” we hear about is actually withdrawal from the stimulating energy of holiday lights and symbols that naturally uplift and inspire us. Just one tropical plant with twinkling white lights twelve months a year can keep chi activated and lessen a slide

into the doldrums. • Honor your ancestors. Invite the energy of transitioned loved ones into your home in a greater way at holiday time. Display their photos amid holiday decorations and know that their essence lives forever. Then, dare to ask for their help. Two Feng Shui guas (different areas on the bagua template) come to mind when honoring ancestors: the Helpful People and Travel gua (near right corner) and the Health and Family gua (middle of the left side). In these two guas in particular you would do well to feature images of chosen ancestors or items that bring them to mind. The more you see them and think about them, the easier they can work in your life. There are countless other measures you can take to protect yourself from what often becomes the most harried months of the year. If you can’t consult your local Feng Shui professional, listen to your own “Inner Feng Shui Master.” Invariably, those little urgings you hear from within are spelling out EXACTLY the steps you need to take to make this your BEST holiday season ever. Listen!
