Rebecca Clio Gould Rebecca is a certified qigong and meditation t e a ch e r , i n t e g r a t i v e nutrition health coach, licensed massage practitioner and awardwinning author. FITNESS Stacy Gehman Stacy was educated as a physicist, has worked as a research and development engineer since 1966, and currently researches new computer techniques for analyzing the electrocardiogram. He began studying the Alexander Technique in 1977, moving to Lincoln, NE in 1980 to apprentice with Marjorie Barstow, who was the first teacher certified by F.M. Alexander. While in Lincoln, Stacy began assisting Ms. Barstow in her public classes and in intensive workshops. In 1986 he moved to Seattle and helped form The Performance School, a Center for the Alexander Technique. He has taught many intensive workshops, weekly group classes, and teacher training classes. Each summer Stacy is on the faculty of The Barstow Institute Summer Alexander Intensive, headquartered at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska, Stacy has also been a student of Tai Chi Chuan since 1973 and has taught classes and workshops integrating Tai Chi and Alexander work. Schlock Cinema: Keeping Up Appearances
First up, House of The Black Death, (1965) was originally sold as a werewolf picture but when the producers went broke halfway through filming, director Jerry Warren added some incoherent footage of John Carradine and Lon Chaney, Jr. as battling warlocks, leaving it a hairy mess. Next is Hammer Studios’ Scream of Fear (1969), starring Susan Strasberg and Christopher Lee about a young heiress, a greedy widow, a creepy doctor, an extremely large inheritance and a very steep cliff. We follow with What’s The Matter with Helen? (1971), a depression-era story of two widows whose husbands and suitors share a very high mortality rate. Happily, the film benefits from the oddball casting of Debbie Reynolds, Shelly Winters and Dennis Weaver. We finish with the beautifully discombobulated 1958 no-budget classic, The Monster of Piedras Blancas, starring B-movie queen, Jeanne Carmen (Untamed Youth) featuring a sad monster suit cobbled from parts “borrowed” from other classic Universal creatures to create a critter who hangs out at the beach waiting to be fed by the weird lighthouse keeper. Film Noir Goes to Prison Prison films were most popular in the 1930s when dozens of movies about men serving hard time were churned out. The films were an allegory for the bigger problems in society. At the age of 14, she added English to her language mix, and she hasn’t stopped studying it ever since. She has earned a Master’s Degree in English Language and Literature specialized in TESOL, from Comenius University, Slovakia and a TESOL Certificate in Canada. Sarka has been teaching English for over 15 years. She has taught in Slovakia, Holland, Canada and the US. Teaching is her greatest passion.
