Welcome to Continuing Education! Sharing the wealth since 1970

“If there is no sharing, there is no learning.” – David Wiley Lifelong learners overflow with knowledge and trade in experience. As ours evolves into an information-based society, we prefer to immerse ourselves in hands-on, interactive opportunities that allow us to impart what we’ve learned. There is an art to sharing that’s second nature to the lifelong learner because successful sharing promotes more sharing. Take a look at our winter classes and join in our non-stop cycle of discovery.

The instructor knew her subject matter and was able to convey it very well. Plus, whenever any of us needed additional instruction, she patiently explained and showed us how (she was also very encouraging). I have taken many classes at NSC Continuing Education, and this was one of my favorites. – Jenny T. on Upholstery or Beginners with Anna Gregory

I liked the variety of techniques that we worked with and the overall pace of the class. I was worried that I would be bored during a two-and-a-half hour class but the time flew by quickly each week. The instructor, David, was very supportive, nonjudgmental and gave constructive comments that we all learned from. He also had a great sense of humor; it was both challenging and comfortable to learn from him.

This quarter we explore through cinema the concept of untenable situations, bumfuzzled scenarios that leave us wondering “What happened?” First up, Joan Collins and Robert Lansing star in Bert I. Gordon’s giant monster ant movie, Empire of The Ants (1977) about a real estate agent with a perfect island property—save for a little bug problem. Next up The Flaming Urge, (1953) starring Harold Lloyd, Jr. as an introverted, lonely guy who likes to chase fire engines until blazes multiply and he becomes the prime suspect. After that expect What’s the Matter with Helen? (1971) with Debbie Reynolds and Shelley Winters as two dance instructors who cut more than just the rug! We follow that with Burn Witch, Burn (1962) about a complacent college professor who learns that “old black magic” doesn’t do him so well after all. We finish up with the all-time science fiction classic about a little guy with a lot of big problems in The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), starring Grant Williams and directed by Jack Arnold. 7050 1/28/2016 - 2/25/2016 7:00 - 9:00PM 5 ses Th Hopkins On Campus: LB Bldg Room 1131 $79
