elcome - you’ve arrived in one of the best - if not THE best - capital city in the world. Perth has been our little secret for years, but now the world has woken up to the fact that the most remote capital city on earth has really rather a lot to offer visitors. For a start, that coastline which the city hugs is simply stunning. From Yanchep lagoon in the north to Coogee in the south, the beaches are whiter and softer than any you’ll find in the Caribbean. And in many cases, you won’t have to fight for a spot to lay your towel. A recent investment in new hotels, venues and a loosening of licencing laws means that a night out in the city is more vibrant - and affordable - than ever. Make sure you visit Elizabeth Quay and Yagan Square - two brand new attractions in the heart of the city with food and drink events running throughout the year. Plenty of world-class shows and performers add Perth to their list now, thanks to the arrival of the impressive Optus Stadium (this year it will play

WELCOME host to Manchester United and Eminem) and the RAC Arena. There are plenty of other smaller venues too where it’s possible to see plays, listen to jazz or catch an up-and-coming band. Us Western Australians (or Sandgropers as we’re known) love live sport too - you’ve arrived just in time for the new Aussie Rules Footy season; go see a live game at the new stadium and hear the roar of the crowd as home town heroes the West Coast Eagles or Fremantle Dockers play this tough and exciting game over a couple of hours.. We’ve put all our local knowledge into this guide, and hope that you’ll enjoy reading about our city and surrounding areas. If you have time, why not head south to Margaret River or north to Broome?

Explore the wild west Fancy sticky beaking the houses of the rich and famous? Then this is the tour for you. Running out under the Elizabeth Quay bridge join a Wild West Charter tour and travel across the face of the City of Perth City under the freeway along beautiful Kings Park following the contours of Mounts Bay Road. You’ll venture around Matilda Bay and Pelican Point and along Millionaire’s Row along Nedlands and Dalkeith. The tour then runs up the eastern side of

the Karrakatta Bank to Claremont and Peppermint Grove where you will be informed at the exact location of a fatal shark attack in 1926. The boat will idle around the shallows under the cliffs at Peppermint Grove where passengers will get a chance to view and also be informed of the marine life below. The tour will then venture into Mosman bay where clients will see “close up” two of Perths and indeed Australia’s most incredible houses before venturing back to Elizabeth Quay following the Southern bank past the suburbs of Attadale, Alfred Cove and Applecross and Como. The Swan River dolphins are often found on this cruise as a lot of the river is covered to locate the wild dolphin pod, the views from Melville Water of Kings park and the CBD are also a visual highlight of the Lower Swan one hour tour. Sculpture by the Sea

MARCH / ART IN THE SANDS Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe, the annual outdoor sculpture exhibition, returns to transform the famous sands of Cottesloe Beach from March 1 to 18. Now celebrating its 15th year, the exhibition is one of Perth’s largest free public events, attracting an estimated 250,000 visitors to explore the art and create Perth’s own version of the Italian passeggiata. More than 70 Australian and international artists are set to showcase their work across the 18-day exhibition. Some of WA’s leading sculptors exhibiting in Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe 2019 include: Anne Neil, Stephen Tepper, Alessandra Rossi, Miik Green, Ron Gomboc, Jennifer Cochrane, Tim Macfarlane Reid, Tony Davis as well as emerging artists Britt Mikkelsen and Jina Lee. coming from London’s West End to His Majesty’s Theatre from March 7. Nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy Peter Pan Goes Wrong turns the JM Barrie classic, Peter Pan into ‘a joyous masterclass of physical comedy and general disaster’ (London Evening Standard). Leading the cast of incredibly

talented actors is Jay Laga’aia along with seven of the actors who had audiences in stitches in The Play That Goes Wrong – Darcy Brown, Francine Caine, Adam Dunn, Luke Joslin, George Kemp, Jordan Prosser and Tammy Weller. All have been silly enough to sign on again with The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society where they will once more battle against technical hitches, flying mishaps and cast disputes on their way to Neverland with hilarious and disastrous results. Experiencing theatrical mayhem for the first time will be Connor Crawford who recently appeared in Assassins at the Hayes Theatre and Sydney Opera House and Teagan Wouters who starred as Nicola in the national tour of the musical Kinky Boots. Peter Pan Goes Wrong, His Majesty’s Theatre, March 7 to March 17. Visit ticketek.com.au OUR FAVOURITE SON Tim Minchin, internationally renowned award-winning musician, comedian, actor, writer and composer, is returning to the Australian stage with his first national tour since 2012. He’ll be bringing his show to Perth, his home town, on March 22 and 23 at Crown Theatre. It will be the first time fans can

see Tim in action since returning to the country after more than a decade living overseas, and the long-awaited follow up to his consecutive sold-out national tours of Tim Minchin Vs the Orchestra in 2011 and 2012. Back is billed as “Old Songs, New Songs, F*** You Songs”, hinting at a set list of material from all corners of Minchin’s eclectic – and often iconoclastic – repertoire. With a long history of sold-out tours – his most recent Australian one-off performance as part of Dark Mofo in June sold every ticket in under 15 minutes. The music virtuoso also announced that a portion of the tour profits will be donated to a local charity in each city, details of which can soon be found at timminchin.com. Tim Minchin, Back, Crown Theatre, March 22 and 23. For complete tour and ticket information, visit livenation. com.au. THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN After a quarter of a century together, the iconic Boyzone recently announced it’s time to say goodnight as they prepare for their farewell tour of the UK. PASS By Sloane Carvell

P

etition Kitchen in the State Buildings has been a classy treat for lunch or dinner since the Old Treasury Building opened up a few years ago. That experience has gone up a notch with a new seasonal menu to enjoy, packed with a roster of local ingredients to make regional suppliers swell with pride that their produce should end up on such creative plates of food. Under the expertise of recently appointed head chef Sean Bentley, who has worked alongside some exceptional chefs including former head chef Jesse Blake, the new menu sings of all that makes a WA summer sublime. The menu is designed for sharing but can also be enjoyed solo and does an excellent job showcasing the best of WA’s seasonal produce. We plunged right in and, with a starter like the Geraldton kingfish crudo with kohlrabi, cucumber, jalopeño and finger limes, the scene was set for something special. ‘Cooking’ fish this way (by curing it with zingy acids) is the perfect way to begin a meal on a hot Perth day. The refreshing crunch of the kohlrabi (also winningly called a German turnip) and cucumber, and zesty local finger limes give your tastebuds a jumpstart with their inyour-face flavour profiles. Something from Gero has never been treated so

32

well. Talk about starting as you mean to go on . . . Charred zucchini with stracciatella and curry leaf and spiced almond oil also holds its own as an intro to Sean’s modus operandi. The smokey and aromatic flavours of the curry leaf match perfectly with the creaminess of the stracciatella and burnished zucchini. Market fish is always a good choice for a main and, in this case, we were in for a treat with sublime slices of WA dhu fish served on a bed of green pea risotto. The pearly white flesh of this superior fish, finding a home on that vivid green pool of sweet peas could be the poster dish for a Perth summer’s day. We washed down our lunch with glasses of

Howard Vineyard Clover Gruner Veltliner from the Adelaide Hills, a fitting partner (if not from WA) for the lively flavours on our plates. Other favourite dishes included a side serve of chopped broccoli salad with toasted grains, walnut and sheep’s feta. It’s not hard to see why this simple combination has become a signature dish of Petition Kitchen and, after

several meals here, I’m glad it’s still available all year around. Time for dessert. I rarely say no to dessert and also believe in cake for breakfast, so it’s always a yes please when the waiter waves the menu in my general direction. I order the Carnarvon melon with native mint granita and burnt cheesecake espumé (that’s posh foam to you and me). I’m over the moon when half a rockmelon, all gnarly skin and neon orange icy

flesh is presented to me, piled high with a gorgeously refreshing granita. It has a sensational sweet taste that reminds me of summers spent in the back yard as a kid, with pieces of watermelon and rockmelon, so you wouldn’t drip it all over the house. For an authentic taste of WA’s stellar ingredients mixed and matched by one of the state’s best rising stars, Petition Kitchen deserves all the love. Follow Sloane @crumbs_and_corks

DON’T MISS . . . TASTE OF THE SOUTH

O

n the back of the opening of Perth hotspot Tiny’s in 2018, hospitality heavyweights Michael Forde, Paul Aron and Brett Robinson have raised the appeal of William Street with yet another superstar venue – Panama Social. The concept for Panama Social was inspired by the space itself. “The venue tells us what it wants to be,” says co-owner Michael (Mary Street Bakery, Offshoot, Tiny’s). Sitting on the corner of Francis and William Streets in Northbridge, the space had potential, but the guys have transformed it into a venue Perth hasn’t seen before. Panama Social is a sensorial experience through Central America. A mish-mash of inspirations from Mexico, the Caribbean and South

38

America, there’s no one theme – and that’s kind of the point. Conjuring up vivid memories of traveling through the Americas, Panama Social is about the times you’ve had and the places you’ve been – pops of colours on street walls, vibrant murals through alleyways, neon signs down busy streets, and random art spotted with blurry eyes through smokey bars. Foodwise, it’s a mixture of street food and home-style neotropical cook-ups. Expect riffs on, Pao de Queijo (cheese donuts) from Brazil, empañadas from Mexico, ceviches

from Peru and roti from Trinidad. It’s a mixture of influences and ingredients transformed by the whim of Panama Social’s head chef Chris Howard. The drinks list is no less imaginative, and is headed up by Tom Kearney (Mechanics Institute, Dominion League) who takes tropical cocktails to new heights. Focusing on rum, tequila and pisco, there’ll be poolside cocktails with tropical twists like Kearney’s take on Pina Coladas. Punch bowls and beer jugs will be served for big groups. Arriba! Panama Social, William Street, open 7 days. Visit panamasocial.com.au

Celebrate young talent As part of City of Perth’s Good Food month, don’t miss your chance to eat with the future top chefs of WA. They are the future Marco Pierre Whites and Stephanie Alexanders; the up and coming generation of talented young chefs - and it’s their time to get the spotlight. Join three of the hottest rising chefs in Perth’s dining scene as they take over the hatted kitchen at Bread in Common and prepare an impeccable three-course dinner with matched wines, under the guidance of head chef Scott Brannigan. Tickets include three courses with matched wines. Young Chefs Dinner, Bread in Common, April 7, $150. Visit goodfoodmonth. com.au

Hot spots GARUM You’ll find Garum (named after a Roman fish sauce) in the historical Hibernian Hall, the new hot spot in the east end of Perth’s CBD. Hibernian Hall has been meticulously preserved and regenerated as part of a major project by BGC Development at Hibernian Place, 480 Hay Street, including the new Westin Perth, resulting in a transformation of the area into a world class community hub. Built in 1902 as a community resource for the Irish Catholics it was used primarily as space for celebratory gatherings. The hall takes its name from the Latin word for Ireland. Reflecting on this rich history the inspiration is to explore the Roman connection. As a result, Roman techniques and traditions take the focus of the menu. Uncomplicated and pure are the cornerstones of the kitchen philosophy, delivering local ingredients with a very unique Roman flavour. The Guy Grossi-led restaurant is one for all Italian food lovers to notch up on their must-do list. Don’t miss: Cacio e Pepe - a deceptively simple pasta dish of tonarelli, pecorino and pepper.

The drinks menu offers craft beer, seasonal cocktails and small batch wines, while Tiny’s Liquor Emporium will serve over 300 wines and a range of spirits. Tiny’s is the new meeting place for socialising and entertaining in the CBD. You’ll see solo acoustic acts showcasing re-imagined covers and DJs playing laid-back funk, hip-hop, and nostalgic classics midweek while at the end of the week, DJs and resident house

BAR FLY

Uma, Pan Pacific Hotel By GAIL WILLIAMS

I

t’s 7.30pm on a Saturday night. And for enthusiastic punters at Uma – the slick new Peruvian addition to Pan Pacific Perth’s reinvigorated Lobby Lounge – that means it’s “cocktail o’clock”. This vast timber-floored space could easily host a soccer game between leather banquette and bar where the backdrop is a glistening colourful array of bottled jewels, the biggies of the Peruvian cocktail experience – Lillet Rouge, tepache de pina, Quebranta, Cachaca and Curaçao. And three 50-something women celebrating a birthday were, like many on-trend Perthites, discovering the epicurean delights of Peru. Sipping on pisco sours while sinking into giant-backed Alice-inWonderland style cane chairs they seemed delighted to be going down the Peruvian rabbit hole. It’s a rabbit hole lined with cacti, soft curtains, looking glasses and timber slats. There’s faux marble round tables and tall timber options where dudes are drinking Cheeky Monkey beers straight out of the bottle.

Hotel guests are working their way through alpaca croquettes and ceviche, and then there’s us marvelling at it all. The finely decked out staff welcome us all in egalitarian orderand-pay-at-the counter style as they shake cocktails and deliver trays of drinks to the nearby Uma restaurant where the highly celebrated Peruvian chef Alejandro Saravia, plies his trade at his third Australian outpost. We choose a comfy spot in a meandering curve of leather banquette seating from where we admire the handywork of an interior désign palette that references the rich colours of Peruvian cuisine while evoking sunsets and the coral coast. We’re thinking the Andes, jungle and butterflies and quinine and giant anacondas and, inspired, we order a classic pisco sour. Of course we do. It comes in an elegant saucer-shaped coupe and is the colour of dried sage cleverly avoiding the lemon or lime debate by using both. It’s tart and sweet and creamy with a seductive mouthfeel. A martini de agridulce is only a

passing nod to traditional “shaken not stirred” and is made with cocchi Americano with a strongly laced vanilla overtone. We too luxuriate on ceviche and thin slices of beef rump cap on skewers. It’s easy to see why Pan Pacific is promoting this venue as an all-day affair, open from 3pm to 3am and offering everything from pre-show cocktails to late night tipples. But it would take even the most dedicated cocktail lover several days to work through the 19 cocktails on the menu, most with a Peruvian bent but a few well-loved from the classic songlist and some West Australian icons such as Rottnest are chucked in to the names to appeal to tourists. It’s not surprising then, that the wine list is circumspect and features mainly local favorites. It’s a cocktail bar after all. And it might be just the pickme-up tonic for the quieter end of town. Uma, Pan Pacific Perth, 207 Adelaide Terrace, Perth, open daily from 3pm to late. Follow @witheringfright

R OUT ABOUT ON ROTTNEST ISLAND

ottnest Island is Western Australia’s very own island getaway, featuring a casual atmosphere, picturesque scenery and some of the world’s finest beaches and bays. Best of all, it’s located just 19 kilometres off the coast of Fremantle. It’s a special place for Western Australians and a popular destination for interstate and international visitors. Mediterranean-style climate and Indigenous flora and fauna of this Island provide the backdrop to a special holiday experience. Take a day trip to Rottnest (or Rotto as the locals call it), or book a stay for a few days or more. It’ll be a memorable part of any visit to Perth.

DON’T MISS . . . See food and eat it ...by Bev Ligman Do yourself a summer favour. Grab your bestie, boyfriend or partner and get yourself over to Rotto for Rottnest Cruises’ Wild Seafood Experience. The day starts as any day to Rotto should, jumping aboard a SeaLink ferry to get to the island. Then of course there’s the obligatory ‘snack’ pie from the Rotto Bakery to line your stomach and by 11am you’re all set to go on the seafood cruise of a lifetime. The Wild Seafood experience is fully interactive – they’ve put the cray pots out, but you have to haul them back in and catch your own lunch. It’s hard work – but let’s face it you’ve already had a couple of Champagnes by this time so you’re basically up for anything! Once lunch is caught (and everyone gets a go at pulling up a cray pot) it’s time for a swim off the back of the boat. Delightful. My bestie and I went on a blisteringly hot 40-degree day so we couldn’t wait to throw ourselves into the deep blue sea and cool down. Then just when you think things couldn’t get any better, you’re served fresh oysters and a Champagne as you dry off from your dip. Yep this, my friends, is living. 80

The Rottnest Cruise staff are brilliant, they knew my bestie and I both got seasick so they made sure to tell us where not to sit on the boat when it was rocky and they also filled up our glass whenever they were empty. Definitely our kind of people. For lunch a long table is set up on the boat and you tuck into fresh crab, prawns, pickled octopus, seafood tacos and a whole bunch of amazing salads. You definitely won’t leave this cruise hungry. Then the crays are cooked on the BBQ right in front of you. Honestly, if they were any fresher, .you’d slap their face. Whether you’re a tourist, a local who hasn’t been to Rotto for a while or you’re showing someone WA’s best bits, the Wild Seafood Experience is the perfect activity. The cruise itself is only three hours long so you’re not on a boat the whole day and, as, there’s only about 15 people on board, it never feels cramped or crowded. And because you don’t go out that far or stay out that long, it really is suitable for all ages, so why not make it a family day out? The Wild Seafood Experience is $175 for adults and $125 for children. To book visit rottnestcruises.com/

See the sealife From January 2019, experience Rottnest’s pristine, crystal waters from above and below on a glass bottom sea kayaking tour. Your tour will start with a short bus ride to the calmest bay on the island arriving asthe guides unload the kayaks, fit everyone for a life jacket and set off on an adventure. Paddle into secluded bays, inaccessible to those on the land and too shallow for those on a boat. Even if you have been going to Rottnest for years, you have probably never seen it like this. The clear floored kayaks also offer guests a window into the world below. See colourful marine life, coral, and fascinating reef formations while staying (relatively) high and dry. The glass bottom sea kayaking tours are for those looking for an active, yet relaxed experience of the island. Yes, you will need your sense of adventure, but you do not need to be an elite athlete. If you have decent upper body strength and are capable of sitting in a small craft for two hours, then you can do this.Book your tour at rottnestkayak.com.au or at the Rottnest Island Visitors Centre.

Realign your karma Karma Rottnest is redefining the spa ritual with the opening of its new destination spa featuring the global debut of Karma’s Apothecary Massage Bar. The first flagship Karma Spa to open in Australia, Karma Rottnest promises to provide guests with a sumptuous sense of place as it reflects the laidback charm of Rottnest Island. Once inside the colonial-era island cottage, guests will discover a selection of restorative rituals deeply attuned to the senses. The extensive spa menu is rich with signature treatments such as Karma Surrender or the bespoke Be in the Moment massage designed specifically for each individual’s needs. Treatment highlights include the Apothecary Massage Bar where Karma Spa’s team of body workers curate personalised experiences using a selection of essential oils tailored around the five spa themes of Relax, De-stress, Activate, Meditate and Mood Booster. ON THE RECORD... with John Paul Young

JOHN PAUL YOUNG

As told to Ara Jansen

Fall in love again with John Paul Young and The Allstar Band as he sings the Vanda and Young songbook. Here he shares his thoughts and the music that he can’t live without. 1. The first album I bought, on vinyl, was probably one of the first compilation albums around 1967. It had some of the old masters from the Deep South like Leadbelly. He wrote House of the Rising Sun and Goodnight Irene. I think I’d just left school and it was all my pocket money. 2. I never wanted to be a musician. It was thrust on me by my mates who decided they wanted to be in a band and if I didn’t play with them, I wouldn’t have any mates. I’d just started my apprenticeship in sheet metal work but went along with them. I’m the type of kid that just kept singing. That was my entertainment. My mates insisted I sing, and it took a while for me to really like it. I’m a picky bugger but it all worked out. It’s the most marvellous thing. Not one of those friends is still involved in music. 3. The first thing I heard in my parents’ 86

house would have been something on the radio. I was already singing in the pram at two years old and my mum told me I was already singing Wild Colonial Boy. I must have heard it from someone. 4. I did my first performance at the Ingleburn Scout Hall in the western suburbs of Sydney. The song was Back In The USSR by The Beatles. It was 1968 and it was with my band Elm Tree. We were probably lucky if we got $20. 5. It’s too hard to choose a favourite album of all time but I’d say just about all of The Eagles albums. I love the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys – it’s a hell of a big list and too hard to cut down. 6. While I haven’t bought anything new in a while the last purchase in our house was a vinyl copy we bought online of Baby by Dianne Davidson, released in 1971.

7. I can’t pick a favourite song but Love Is In The Air is a song I wish I’d written. It’s a perfect pop song for me, even though there are plenty of great pop songs around. 8. One of my go-to albums is probably Astral Weeks by Van Morrison. Or maybe something from Gladys Knight & The Pips. I just love the 60s and 70s era. 9. If I landed on a desert island, rather than take a bunch of albums, I’d take something to make music with instead, like a guitar. That way I’d never be bored, always be able to sing and entertain myself. CATCH JPY AT THE BUNBURY ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE, March 22 and Astor Theatre, Perth, March 23. INTER VIEW ... with ShockOne

GROOVING AND MOOVING ALONG FOR A GREAT DAY The annual Bunbury festival hits town in May. Ara Jansen checks in and talks to Perth DJ and producer ShockOne.

W

hen ShockOne hits the stage at Groovin the Moo, it will be the first chance for a home crowd to hear the finished tracks from his new album.

94

“It’s always awesome playing for a local crowd,” says ShockOne. “Plus, I can have a slightly bigger production and can bring all my vocalists with me. This is will be one of the first

opportunities to play the new album in its finished state. That’s going to be really cool.” At the annual Bunbury festival, this year ShockOne will be sharing the bill with the likes of A$Ap Twelvyy, Holy Holy, DMA’s, Angie McMahon, Coolio, Duckwrth, Billie Eilish, Flosstradamus, Spinderella and Hilltop Hoods. Starting in 2005 and consistently selling out, the festival features a combination of community engagement, artists, local food and beverages alongside a diverse musical bill. Groovin the Moo’s increasingly recognised trademark is about having a fun and enjoying a value-packed day complete with a twist of country hospitality and inclusivity. “I think I ask a lot of my audience, but for me, if the song is good, that’s all that matters,” says ShockOne about takin the stage. “I expect people to appreciate that and be open-minded and have as eclectic tastes as I do. I want to challenge drum and bass heads and hope they can appreciate

a song for what it is rather than what you think it should be.” Due for imminent release, his A Dark Machine album contains pieces of dubstep, drum and bass, a “13BPM pop-techno thing” and some ambient pieces. While it might seem like a mixed bag, the producer says he’s the common link tying it all together. Also, after a slew of singles and EPs and a debut album, it was time to write the songs ShockOne knew he would regret if they were ignored in his creative process. “As I’m getting better at my craft, I’m learning to tell that story in a more focused way, with the least amount of clutter and noise. The difference for me, compared to the first album, is that this one is much more considered. Sonically, it sounds much bigger but I’m also cutting away layers just to have the bare things that tell the story of the song. “I’m way more productive now,” he explains after having worked on the album at the same time as becoming a

first-time dad. “I’m a lot less neurotic and self-indulgent, especially if I want to be home for bath time. It’s also meant that when I was forced to let go of being so precious, I started making better work. I no longer have time to have writer’s block!” Groovin’ the Moo happens on Saturday, May 11, at Hay Park in Bunbury. It’s a licensed all-ages event. GET A ROOM

The Westin Perth

The choice is yours

P

erth is in the middle of an accommodation bonanza for all budgets. Never before have so many rooms been available for so many price brackets. Thanks to the recent creation of so many new venues - the six-star Crown Towers and much-lauded The Treasury being the most notable - the boom isn’t over yet. With 2019 now in full swing, an additional 720 rooms will become available. Some 24 new hotels will open in and around Perth over the next three years, adding almost 4,000 rooms to the local market at a cost of more than $3 billion. Existing hotels like the Fraser Suites and the new DoubleTree by Hilton Perth in Northbridge right in the heart of Perth’s party zone continue to offer visitors top quality accommodation and dining options. If you’re heading out of the city to the Margaret River region (a three and a half hour drive) or the newly christened Bunbury Geographe region, just two hours from the CBD, there’s a wide choice again. You can stay close to vineyards and dine like superstars on local produce (Cape Lodge) or on the beach (Abbey Beach

Resort), rent a beautiful private home via Private Properties, or stay on the farm in charming Balingup Heights.

Ring the changes The Westin Perth has established itself as a very welcome addition to the hotel scene in Perth, leading the

charge in a newly invigorated eastern part of the city. It’s a luxurious place to call home during your stay in the city. With the world famous ‘Heavenly Beds’ in every room, you’ll enjoy a great night’s sleep after exploring some of the most vibrant bars and cafes, literally on your doorstep. We recommend Hadiqa for a taste of Morocco - it’s just across the street from the Westin’s terrace. An added bonus is that there’s a Bodhi J eco-luxe spa in the hotel too; paradise, just a few floors up. The Melbourne Hotel has emerged, butterfly-like, after a substantial renovation and we absolutely love its cool new vibe. On the corner of Hay and Milligan Streets in the heart of Perth CBD, The Melbourne Hotel has been a

part of the local character and culture since 1897. This beautiful building’s old-world splendour and charm now pays tribute to the grand hotels of yesteryear, an era when travel meant something special and guests were welcomed on a more personal level. Proud of this heritage, yet keeping up with the times with a bright style, the contemporary redesign reflects the dynamic landscape of Perth. And just opened, QT Perth offers a chic new industrial approach to luxe in the heart of the city. And its rooftop bar is the hippest place in town for a cocktail as the sun goes down. The rooms are luxurious and quirky - a real change up from the usual place to rest your head.
