Tallahassee: Florida’s Historic Meeting Place

Ambitious from the Beginning

Two hundred years ago, John Lee Williams of Pensacola and Dr. William Simmons of St. Augustine met in what is now Tallahassee-Leon County to determine the site of Florida’s new capital. It was, perhaps, the most important meeting in our state’s history. Since then, Tallahassee has become the ideal spot for memorable meetings, reunions and conferences, often held in historic venues where echoes of the past converge with aspirations of the future. Find out for yourself and share in our community’s Bicentennial celebration!

THE Entertainment Districts OF TALLAHASSEE

COLLEGETOWN

Energetic, youthful, hip and exciting — in a word, FUN! College students, alumni and locals come here to stay, eat, drink and shop.

In the center of CollegeTown stands Hotel Indigo — a boutique hotel designed to reflect Tallahassee’s fascinating history as a railroad town with rail map motifs throughout the property.

Dining options in CollegeTown range from pub grub to Cajun favorites. Madison Social gastropub serves up new-American small plates and sandwiches in a modern loft-style space with an expansive outdoor patio.

Little Masa is a fast-casual restaurant serving Asian-fusion favorites, including wok classics, noodles of Asia and fresh sushi, while Coosh’s brings the flavors of Cajun favorites, including crawfish etouffee, jambalaya and red beans and rice.

SOUTHSIDE

Make your way to Tallahassee’s growing Southside District. Anchored by one of the top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the country, Florida A&M University, students keep this district lively with Rattler athletic events, dynamic performing arts and colorful murals.

For those interested in exploring the outdoors, try a stroll down the St. Marks Trail, a 16-mile paved trail connecting Florida’s Capital City with the coastal community of St. Marks. Fuel up for the trail with a visit to Early’s Kitchen or Olean’s Cafe

For an entertaining evening, the House of Music offers a full service restaurant, karaoke bar and multi-genre live music venue.

No trip would be complete without sampling an award-winning craft beer at the area’s largest brewery, Proof Brewing Company. Enjoy a rotating tap menu featuring more than 20 different styles.

MARKET DISTRICT

Located off I-10, Exit 203, The Market District is where you’ll find locally owned, curated boutique shops for both men and women and a variety of restaurants and gardens to explore. Hearth & Soul features unique finds for the mind, body and home while clothing stores like Nic’s Toggery have been providing classic styles to Tallahassee men for nearly 75 years.

Dining options abound with cuisine from across the globe. Little Paris brings the tastes and setting of a French café while Jeri’s Love on a Plate serves up farm-to-table, high-quality ingredients sure to fill your belly and heart with love.

One of the area’s most beautiful gardens can be found in the Market District — Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. A masterpiece of floral architecture, the park features a picturesque brick walkway, secret garden, reflection pool and a plethora of blooming flowers.

UPTOWN/BANNERMAN CROSSINGS

Located on the northeast side of Tallahassee, Bannerman Crossing features unique shops, spas, elevated dining experiences and family fun! Enjoy live music or a movie with friends on the outdoor pavilion or indulge at one of the many fine-dining options including Dao, Rae’s and Blu Halo.

When it’s time to play, let the good times roll at Hangar 38, offering bowling, an arcade, a full bar and an elevated dining experience.

A Taste of Tallahassee

Blending traditional Southern cuisine and modern eateries with fresh, farm-to-table fare and craft breweries, Tallahassee is a true epicurean experience. With flavors as unique as the chefs that create them, satisfy your palate at any of our mouth-watering restaurants or bars.

HISTORIC TALLAHASSEE

Nestled under the canopy of moss-covered oak trees, Table 23 provides culinary and craft drink options that are as diverse as the community it calls home. Embracing the original “bones” of its 1920s restored residence, Table 23 serves southern hospitality for nearly 300 through its main floor, second floor rental space and an outdoor porch bar.

Other Tallahassee Staples: Kool Beanz Café, Georgio's, Hopkins’ Eatery

BLACK-OWNED RESTAUARNTS

Black-owned restaurants are an essential part of Tallahassee cuisine and culture. Whether you’re craving Southern-style cooking, fresh seafood or something sweet, Tallahassee has a wide selection of restaurants to satisfy your appetite.

For over 30 years, Earley’s Kitchen has been dishing up good ol’ Southern country cooking for breakfast and lunch while Rattlers and Southern food lovers alike, including then-Vice President Joe Biden, visit Olean’s Café for some of the best soul food in the South.

Other Black-Owned Dining: Gurlie’s Lemonade and Sweets, Pineappétit, JoEllen’s

CRAFT BREWERIES

Proof Brewing Co. is one of the city’s most beloved local watering holes where guests can enjoy a modern yet intimate tasting room, expansive beer garden, covered patio, private events room and award-winning craft beer. Group brewery tours available.

Other Hopping Breweries: Oyster City Brewing Co., Deep Brewing, Ology, Lake Tribe, Amicus Brewing Ventures

FARM TO TABLE

Backwoods Crossing takes farm-to-table to the next level by sourcing local fruits, veggies, meats, seafood and wine from local producers and growing their own! What began as a few raised beds in the front lawn to supply the restaurant with fresh herbs has morphed into a full-fledged 3½-acre farmette supplying fresh produce year-round. Their private dining room accommodates up to 40 guests.
