Letter from Mayor of Plantation Lynn Stoner

Dear Plantation Residents,

As we wrap up 2022, I’m excited about the abundance of events in the next few months and the upcoming year. As the fall season ends and winter begins, I’m hoping for beautiful weather for our city and for the many opportunities for all to enjoy our upcoming events and programs. Be sure to mark those calendars; there is undoubtedly something for everyone! November will emerge with the ‘Snow Place like Plantation Snowman

Contest,’ where residents, students and families can participate; registration begins Tuesday, November 1. The Rock the Park Concert Series is back on

Friday, November 4, at Central Park, with Classic Rock! The concert series is free, food trucks will be onsite, and it takes place the first Friday of each month, from November through April. Our Annual Veteran’s Day ceremony will begin promptly at 9:30AM at Veterans Park on Friday, November 11. On the following Friday, November 18, the Movies in the Park series begins at Volunteer Park featuring Top Gun Maverick and Saturday, November 19, the Annual Holiday Parade takes place! The Holiday Parade will step off at 9:00AM, beginning at the intersection of Broward Blvd. and NW 46th Ave. and concludes at City Hall.

This time of the year includes a couple of weeks off from school for the kiddos, and the city has just the solution for that. Our Parks & Recreation Department offers Thanksgiving Break Camp, running November 21 - 25 and Winter Break Camp, running December 26 - January 6. You may register at any of our Community Centers two weeks in advance of the starting date.

December will ring in our 3rd Annual Light Up City Hall on Saturday, December 3. Bring friends and family as we Light Up the holidays as one community and enjoy the celebration with food trucks, music, and activities at City Hall. That same morning, December 3, the Friends of the Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library will host a Used Book Tent Sale from 8:30AM - 2:00PM. On Saturday, December 10, delight in Breakfast with Santa at Volunteer Park from 9:00AM - 11:00AM. 2023 kicks off the City’s 70th Birthday celebration which is April 30, and this year we will host some new firsts! Introducing the Great Plantation Campout! A camp-tastic time at Volunteer Park, each group/family will receive a 20 square foot campsite, partake in field day, s’mores and a hike underneath the stars! On Monday, January 16, we will host our Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at the Jim Ward Community Center. DoggiePalooza is also back on Saturday, January 28, at Happy Tails Dog Park. I look forward to these upcoming eventful months and am excited about what 2023 has in store. For questions about any of our events, please get in touch with our Parks and Recreation Department at (954) 452-2510. Details of all the events can be found on the City’s calendar at www.plantation.org/calendar. Stay safe and Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

Mayor Lynn Stoner
