T his year the Wildcats of Forest Glen Middle School are committed to GROWING together! The Glen House Rules drive daily operations at the Glen as students and staff members are dedicated to being responsible, respectful, and safe contributors to our school community. The 2022-2023 school year is blooming as our students are exhibiting many positive behaviors, participating in the new FAST assessment, using their new iPads, and getting involved with sports and clubs! New curriculum standards are keeping our teachers busy learning new ways to create innovative lessons.

What’s going on at FGMS?

• FGMS has grown this year by adding a new Jobs for Florida Graduates (JFG) program that helps students learn job and life skills to help them give back to their community.

• Growth has also taken place in our approach to teaching and learning as we are a Verizon Innovative Learning School (VILS)! All students and teachers have received brand new iPads with free data to assist them in learning. We are becoming responsible digital citizens at the Glen!

• Our loveable Violet is now on campus to assist in meeting students’ emotional needs daily. Meet her in our Peer Counseling room. We love our Violet!

• We have installed a food forest at FGMS, and we are looking for volunteers to help us grow! We saw bright and robust sunflowers bloom on our campus at the start of the school year! We have currently grown strawberries, spinach, tomatoes, plums, and herbs.

• PAWS with Mrs. G is a learning session held monthly with the principal which involves helping parents, guardians and community members grow in their knowledge and support of our wildcats! How can parents support students and/or our school?

Just be there! Ensure students are prepared for school, up to date with their assignments and grades, and following all school rules. This kind of support contributes to an environment focused on student learning and growth. We are always looking for approved volunteers to help around campus. Parents and guardians are invited to join PTO and attend monthly SAC and PTO meetings.

As we approach the second semester, our teachers are working diligently with the implementation of BEST standards and FAST assessments. Classroom teachers are focused on targeted instruction to meet students’ needs and close the learning gaps. Learning experiences are planned intentionally at Hunt Elementary. As the year progresses, we will maintain momentum on our academic goals while integrating character-building opportunities and exciting experiences.

Our students are provided with the opportunity to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our goal is to promote kindness. We have our Reading Buddies initiative where we team up our primary and intermediate students to alternate reading to each other. Students select a book of choice or are assigned a book by the teacher at their appropriate reading level to read to their buddies. Students meet at a comfortable designated area to enjoy the reading experience. We want to build a strong sense of community in our school and promote literacy. Our Safety Patrol group is a success, as we watch our fifth graders serve as role models for our youngsters, as they assist in arrival and dismissal. We are looking forward to our upcoming activities! We have Curriculum Night, Literacy Week, Black History Month activities, and Bookfair in the upcoming weeks. We look forward to having our students, parents, and community participation. We encourage and value parent involvement at our school. We invite our families and community to attend our monthly School Advisory Forum and School Advisory Council meetings. Please visit our school website for the dates Hunt Elementary / Homepage (browardschools.com). Also, follow us on Twitter @HuntElementary.

Happy 2023 from the Raider Nation! We are excited to start off this new year with our students, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals along the way.

The Bullseye Club Ramblewood Middle School’s Speech and Debate students continue to attend competitions in mass. To close 2022, forty-seven students competed in eight different events and brought home seventeen medals in December, up from twelve in November. Trending Times Journalism continues to innovate the pages and designs of the yearbook. This year they have collaborated to create eleven new and exciting spreads to showcase the memories from this school year. This year’s book promises to be stunning in design and content.

The Mentoring Tomorrows Leaders and the Raider Step Team will be participating and performing at the Dr. Martin Luther King Leadership and Service Forum in Coral Springs this spring. Many of the students have served in the community during Thanksgiving and holidays partnering with Dare to Care Community Outreach, Broward Health Coral Springs, and other community service projects.

Also, four MTL Mentors were featured on PBS’s “Your South Florida” discussing Financial Literacy with Junior Achievement. In addition, on of our very own teachers,

Written By: Courtney Russo 6th/7th/8th Intensive Reading Teacher

Mrs. Washington Collins, was interviewed by PBS speaking about the impact of Junior Achievement curriculum in her 8th grade scholars’ lives.

RMS Drama club has been busy at work the last two quarters and are currently gearing up for their Spring Play “Bully” which will take place March 28th and 29th at Ramblewood Middle School.

In sports, the Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball teams worked hard and had great seasons. We look forward to Flag Football along with Track & Field in the springtime.

Riverglades is excited about the many different activities and happenings during the spring semester. This semester, the SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Promise Club will lead different activities each month to promote kindness and practices that make our school a safe place for all. These activities range from “Spread the Love” Heart Grams to decorating common areas with words that promote peace and school safety. Members of this club are selected fifth grade students who want to lead the change in these efforts.

Each year Riverglades participates in the Day of Service and Love to commemorate the 17 lives lost and those injured as a result of the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas on February 14, 2018. Our school participates in spreading love and kindness to the community by collecting items for local places in need like SOS Village, the Humane Society, and food banks. True to our LifeSkills curriculum, our students and staff demonstrate generosity by going above and beyond with their donations. Last year, we were able to have truckloads of donations, and look forward to being able to do even more this year. Each class takes an active role in the donation and collection process which allows them to see how their giving positively impacts others.

Another upcoming event this semester is the Kid’s Heart Challenge. Our Gators participate by registering for the Kids Heart Challenge and donating to the cause. This drive ends with the exciting Jump rope for Heart Challenge where students show off their jump roping skills. The students look forward to the Kids Heart Challenge every year and diligently practice their jump roping skills to get ready for the big day. Once all donations are in, the students gear up for Slime Day. This is an event where the top student donors get to slime our P.E. Coach and Administration. From start to finish, the Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and rewarding experience for our students. Riverglades is proud to be the leading school in donations last year and plan to continue to support this program.

As you can see, the Riverglades Gators are keeping quite busy. Although the academic demands of the school year are high, at Riverglades, it is important for us that we create space for our them to participate in extra-curricular activities that are fun and character-building so that they can grow into well-rounded members of the community. Riverglades Elementary is located at 7400 Parkside Dr., Parkland 33076. Their principal is Joanne Seltzer. They can be reached at (754) 322-8200.

Parkside has been busy over these last few months celebrating the Holidays. We had a wonderful turn out to our Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon. We were so pleased to be able to bring this back face to face this year. We served over 1,200 staff, students and families. It is such a joy inviting our families in to have a special Thanksgiving Lunch here. A BIG thank you to our wonderful cafeteria staff for all that they did in preparing and serving all of these families.

We want to thank our PTA for organizing several activities for our families and students as well throughout these last few months. Students had a wonderful day celebrating “Polar Express” and a visit from the South Florida Firetruck. The students always love pretending to play in the snow.

PTA also had a really nice turn out at our Family Movie Night. This is one of their give backs to our families. What a fun night this was for all and we are thankful for all that they do for our school. Over the next few weeks, we will begin our planning for next school year. Our Kindergarten round-up and 23-24 intention forms will be going home soon. Please be on the look-out for these in your children’s folders. Thankful to all of our Parkside Community for all you do for our school.

Parkside Elementary is located at 10257 NW 29th Street, Coral Springs 33065. Our principal is Mrs. Laneia Hall and she can be reached at (754) 322-7850. Visit our website at parkside.browardschools.com for more information.

We wish a Happy New Year to the Coral Springs community and the Ram Families! We are already in the 3rd quarter of the 2022-23 school year, which means we are less than halfway to the end.

In December, we hosted Dinner with D.A.D.S. (Dedicated and Devoted Supporters). This is an event where males that participate in students’ lives were invited to eat dinner with their child, nephew, brother, etc. They also got a chance to network and sign up to volunteer at upcoming events. It was a fantastic event, coordinated by our awesome PTO.

We also invited parents to see their kids perform during our Winter Holiday Show. Student participants from all grade levels performed holiday songs and staff members collaborated and surprised everyone with a fabulous, well- choreographed piece. It was standing room only.

This year, our Chess Team competed for the first time in the Chess Competition. I am elated to report that we placed fifth. Our students competed fiercely under the direction of Mr. Alvaro Picado, P.E. teacher, Chess and Debate Coach. Kudos to the team!

Our PTO scheduled a Family Night at Pizza Carousel. It was a very successful event. The Ram community and staff enjoyed delicious foods, while supporting another Coral Springs business partner. We have many more events and activities coming soon. We can’t wait to share them with you. Ramblewood Elementary is located at 8950 Shadowwood Blvd in Coral Springs. Their principal is Dacyany Ibarrondo. They can be reached at (754) 322-8150.
