Letter from Davie Mayor Judy Paul

Hello Davie Residents,

I can’t believe that the summer has already come and gone, and that we have begun another exciting school year here in the Town of Davie. As children get adjusted to their new school schedules, please remember that it is never too late to begin (or continue) teaching your children essential life safety skills through swim lessons. Throughout the fall, swim lessons will be offered for children 6 months and older, by our certified Water Safety Instructors, who are proud to teach these skills to our community’s children in a fun and safe environment at the Pine Island Fitness and Aquatic Center. Our Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department also offers many great programs, special events and sports leagues throughout the year. Currently we are accepting registrations for our Winter Soccer Leagues for children ages 3 – 15 years old. Soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and all these exciting practices and games will take place inside of Bamford Sports Complex located inside of beautiful Pine Island Park. Youth sports participation provides many benefits to our youth. Besides the fact that it gets our children away from the ever-present device screentime, they also teach children teamwork and discipline, provide social opportunities, and develop self-esteem. These are essential life skills, that we will help develop at an early age.

One of my favorite events every year is the Halloween Happenings event hosted annually within the Davie Arena located at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds. This annual kid friendly event will take place on Saturday, October 29th. The event will feature a costume contest, a pumpkin patch, games, and the added special Davie touch of a Horse Costume Contest! For our older kids and their families, the Town, in conjunction with the South Florida Cloggers, will host the annual haunted house that will take place at the Pine Island Multipurpose Center at Bamford Sports Complex for the second consecutive year. The event will take place on October 22nd, 27th, 28th and 29th. In addition to the haunted house there will be food, games, and vendors to keep everyone entertained as they wait to enter the most “spooktacular” haunted house in South Florida. When looking through our activities, remember, whether it’s swimming, community special events, fitness, youth sports, or recreation classes for all ages, the Town of Davie Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department has something for everyone in your family. For more information on any Davie program, just call (954) 327-3941. As always, see you in the parks, and don’t forget to “like” us on Facebook.

Sincerely, Judy Paul
