Medical Cannabis: Calming the Crazy Bitch (Part 2) Only Women Bleed By Sharon Letts

Three years ago, this stoner turned a corner and became a full-fledged cannabis patient. But it wasn’t an easy transition. My world and body seemingly fell apart in the middle of a failed relationship wrought with infidelity and deceit; with a shoebox full of prescription meds intended to help failing me, as one pill confused the other and mania set in. At my lowest point I downed the bottle of Valium intended to calm my nerves. Luckily, I had intervention.

Prior to my suicide attempt I only smoked the herb. When the little bottle of Valium was gone I had only pot to appease me. Lucky for me, smoked cannabis immediately elevates endorphins. It helped keep tears at bay, but wasn’t enough. I still suffered from life issues with little emotional strength left. And on top of everything else, I just didn’t feel good, physically – suffering from a combination of Thyroid Disease and Menopause, causing my emotional issues to escalate. Around this same time, a spider-weblike mass was found in my right breast appearing to be Lobular Carcinoma; a mass, not tumor, affecting up to 15 percent of women in the U.S. I immediately began eating, and then blending raw leaves in a smoothie to

combat the cancer. I also began taking Rick Simpson Oil, or RSO, an extremely strong, concentrated oil used in the treatment of cancers and other serious illness. And then an amazing thing happened - my tummy began feeling better.

You are What You Eat

In the book, “Eat, Pray, Love” author Elizabeth Gilbert shared while having trouble meditating in an Ashram in India, the first question her Guru asked was how her digestion was. It’s why the painfully shy and chronically depressed cartoonist Charles Schultz gave his alter-ego Charlie Brown tummy pains – when our tummy hurts, we hurt. When my tummy felt better, everything else followed. My metabolism sped up; I lost weight; the constant bloating was gone; I was able to go to the bathroom daily – something I hadn’t been able to do in years; the fatigue and the big, black cloud hovering overhead lifted. While the cancer was disappearing, my body was healing from the inside-out, as my endocannabinoid system accepted the cannabinoids of the plant, working together to right the wrong of decades and lineage of toxins making me sick. It also cleansed my organs after 13 years of ineffective and ultimately damaging synthetic prescription meds. With my physician’s blessing I did away with more than eight pharmaceuticals including hormone replacements - and all the negative side effects disappeared along with the myriad symptoms of both the Thyroid Disease and Menopause.

Cannabis Cornucopia

Most of my delivery options I make myself at home. There are many and widely varied. In the morning I make a smoothie with fruit and leaf. This is a full body treatment, warding off illness and preventing serious disease, such as my cancer reoccurring. During the day I smoke for depression, and this is my immediate go-to when I’m feeling low. It raises endorphins immediately, gets into the blood stream quickly, lifts me up and stops the crying jags. If the carbon causes bronchial issues I use a vaporizer for maintenance – it also replaces steroid inhalers for asthma patients, and helps during a cold - but that’s another story. In the evening I might enjoy a tonic in a cocktail - an infused alcohol, such as rum or gin. This is brilliant as the anti-inflammatory and anti-infection properties of the plant keep headaches and hangovers at bay. And alcohol breaks down the medicine in the plant without heat, so there are no psychoactive properties, as THC is activated with heat. At bedtime I ingest RSO, a strong tincture, medible, and/or have medicated honey in my tea, as Menopause is a sleep disruptor. This also works as another dose of preventative against cancers, infection, inflammation and pain, and a bevy of both common and serious ailments. Some patients have real issues with the psychoactive properties of the THC, but I’ll say this, it is the only thing that helps with my mental challenges, and the effects lessen with time. One’s tolerance builds in the same way Valium or any opiate does, but with no damaging side effects, only healing within. My thyroid is kaput for life, the cancer may rear its ugly head again, and they say I may have another ten years of Menopause ahead of me. But I am blessed with the knowledge of this plant, I feel good today, and the only potion simmering in this witch’s cauldron is cannabis. Sharon Letts started in this world as a gardener, ended up a writer/producer, and continues to advocate for the freedom to garden every seed bearing plant. You can find her on Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter @lettsgarden.

Essential Health: The Other Oils The Kings Medicine Cabinet & Myrrh By: Shelly Berkowitz

Reflexologist & Holistic Health Counselor Myrrh, or Commiphora Myrrha, one of the most widely-used essential oils, is a resinous tree/shrub, called a Burseraceae Tree. The word “myrrh” comes from “murr,” which means “bitter” in Arabic, probably referring to the resins’ bitter taste. It has a warm, earthy, woody, balsamic scent. It is typically grown in parts of the world like Africa and the Middle East. Myrrh oil, like frankincense and gold, is mentioned in the Bible (152 times!) It was used for incense in religious rituals, for many medicinal purposes, and by high priests for anointing kings and rulers. It was also used as an embalming fluid and was found in the Christian Bible as one of the three gifts of the wise men presented to the Christ Child. Myrrh’s properties are anti-infections, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antitumor, astringent and tonic. Two of the primary active compounds found in myrrh, terpenoids and sesquiterpenes, have

anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Sesquiterpenes specifically also have an effect on our emotional center in the hypothalamus, helping us remain calm and balanced. Both of these compounds are under investigation for their anticancer and antibacterial benefits as well as other potential therapeutic uses.

in combination with frankincense. The smell of myrrh has been traditionally seen as a symbol of suffering, burned at funerals or other sad events. But, at times myrrh is blended with citrus oils to help produce a more uplifting aroma. These lighter blends have been used to help promote inspiration and emotional insight.

Common primary uses: cancer, chapped/ dry or cracked skin, congestion, dysentery, gum disease, Hashimoto’s disease, hepatitis, infections, liver cirrhosis, skin ulcers, stretch marks, ulcers and weeping wounds. In France, its medicinal uses varied from bronchitis to thrush and viral hepatitis. Even the Greek soldiers used this resin on the battlefields to stop their wounds from bleeding. Myrrh is also a natural remedy for hypothyroidism, or a low functioning thyroid. Since it helps reduce stress, it can also help decrease stress on an overtaxed thyroid. Put 2-3 drops directly onto the thyroid area daily to help decrease symptoms.

Myrrh oil is still commonly used today as a remedy for a variety of ailments. Researchers have become very interested in myrrh, due to its potent antioxidant activity and potential as a cancer treatment. It has also been shown to be effective in fighting certain types of parasitic infections.

Myrrh affects the hormonal, immune and nervous systems, as well as the skin. It’s also been known to help with increasing appetite, asthma, athlete’s foot, candida, catarrh (mucus), coughs, eczema, digestion, dyspepsia, flatulence, fungal infection, gingivitis, hemorrhoids, mouth ulcers, decongesting the prostate gland, rheumatoid arthritis ringworm, sore throats, skin conditions, wounds and wrinkles. Myrrh has the power to increase the function of white blood cells, critical for wound healing. It was found to decrease the incidence of ulcers and improve their healing time, in a 2010 study published in the Journal of Immunotoxicology.

Vegas Cannabis Magazine • December 2015 • 18

Because of its aromatic influence, it also promotes awareness and is uplifting, when diffused or used aromatically. It has been used in meditative practices or for prayer, usually

If used in moderation and correct dosage (especially when ingesting it topically), myrrh oil is generally safe for adults. However, as with other essential oils, I advise you to use this oil with caution. Myrrh oil is not recommended for pregnant women and nursing moms, as it can induce menstruation and lead to premature labor. Children age six and below should also refrain from using this oil. Diabetics and other people suffering from health conditions should also consult their physician before using myrrh oil. To make sure that myrrh oil will not have any allergic effects when applied topically, do a skin patch test on your inner arm first. Side effects of myrrh oil, according to a study published in the journal Phytotherapy Research: If myrrh oil is consumed in excessive amounts, it may affect your heart rate and lead to severe heart irregularities. This oil may also interfere with anticoagulants, so it is advised that you avoid using it orally if you are taking these medications. Other possible side effects of myrrh oil include lowered blood pressure, uterine bleeding, making a fever worse and diarrhea. Some people with sensitivities to myrrh oil may also experience allergic contact dermatitis when applying topically. For more information about how to purchase essential oils, please contact Shelly Berkowitz, Reflexologist & Holistic Health Coach at (714) 514-3737. Shelly can also be reached via email at ahealthyresidual@yahoo.com and her website can be viewed at www.mydoterra.com/ shellyberkowitz.

The Significance of Mail Call in the Slammer By: Mindi Griffiths

Let’s face it, snail mail is archaic by most people’s standards. The cumbersome chore of writing a letter, addressing the envelope, affixing proper postage, and putting it in the mail box seems a bit ridiculous in the age of electronic mail and instant messaging. For a portion of the American population, the US postal service is still their primary source of communication. They are the forgotten victims of the war on drugs, those serving time in the prison system for a plant. Who are these forgotten victims? They are dispensary owners, growers, and caregivers. They are patients, possessors and consumers of a life-saving medicine. They are mothers, fathers, and children. Many are even grandparents. There are countless individuals, who have not harmed anyone, rotting in prison, separated from loved ones. Unfortunately, family and friends find it difficult to maintain relationships with their loved ones for an array of reasons. Sometimes family members are angry at the inmate for committing a crime. Often, people who are incarcerated have little to talk about or tend to be gloomy, making communication emotionally draining. The average person, who has never

experienced being locked up, is unable to comprehend the degree to which people in prison count on mail call. The entire family suffers when a loved one is incarcerated causing a strain on communication. The first amendment right to freedom of speech is in essence the only constitutional right an inmate has left. Providing an avenue for a fellow cannabis warrior to exercise this freedom is rewarding. “Free speech in the prison context is also important since it is the only first-hand account we have as to how the penal system is run. Communication also plays a vital role in an inmate’s access to the courts and his relations with counsel” (Holtz, 2002, p. 2). Ordinarily, removal of communication is used as a form of punishment, but all prisons are required by law to provide the inmates with access to the U.S. Postal system even during punishment periods where email communication and visits are disallowed. Writing to an inmate gives them a link that sometimes is the only one they have. Your letter may be the only kind hearted human contact the person in prison for cannabis receives. Besides having a direct impact on the inmate’s life, communities will benefit as well as prisoners’ chances of successful reentry into society are improved when a connection to the outside world is maintained. “Several studies suggest the prisoner’s mental health is dependent on his contact with the outside world” (Hairston, 1991, p. 93-4). Also, the more they know about what is going on in the “real world” the easier it is to fit in with those who have not been in a black hole of the penal system. The system should have an emphasis on maximizing contact with the outside world,

both to minimize the division between the norms of incarceration and those of the free world, and to discourage dysfunctional withdrawal from society that is difficult to reverse upon release (Hany, 2002, p. 17). One prisoner wrote, “The biggest cause of evil in prison is loneliness.” If we are not the ones who share their stories, if we are not willing to be the voices of war than who will? Now that you know why you should write to a cannabis POW (prisoner of the drug war), how do you locate your new pen pal? With a quick google search one can locate many organizations that can help connect you with non-violent prisoners from across the country. It is wise to verify all addresses of inmates prior to mailing. For federal inmates go to http://www.bop. gov/inmateloc/ . Each state has a web site to verify state prisoner addresses. You may also email voicesofthecannabiswar@ gmail.com for one-on-one assistance. The question most often presented is, ‘What should I write about?’ Many prisoners enjoy hearing the day-to-day things that go on such as at your work, with your kids, and community. Current events and newspaper clippings are outstanding ways to start a conversation and provide a link to the outside world. The internet is a first-rate resource for pen pal games and topics. One favorite is to cut out a picture from a magazine and the recipient returns it with a silly caption. Word searches and crossword puzzles can also be adapted for pen pal fun. Be aware! There is a healthy list of things you are not able to send a prisoner. They are not able to receive money, stamps, stickers, and the like. For a complete list of rules, visit the website of the institution that houses the inmate you are corresponding with. Cannabis Pharmacy What Are Those Things Called Cannabinoids?

And What Are They Doing In My Marijuana? Part 3: Cannabinol (CBN) By Dr. Kit, Pharm.D, RPh.

Cannabis is made up of more than 400 known compounds, contained in 18 different classes, which, in varying combinations, result in both the beneficial and side effects of cannabis. Of these classes, the most well-known and most studied are the cannabinoids. Cannabinoids exist not only in cannabis, but are also made by the human body. The human body also has naturallyoccurring receptors that, when activated by cannabinoids, are responsible for the compound’s effects. With the new state-licensed dispensaries in Nevada, medicinal cannabis must be lab-tested to determine the percentage of several different cannabinoids present in each batch of marijuana. In this three-part series, I will explore the effects, side effects, and therapeutic uses for the

three most common cannabinoids: delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and cannabinol (CBN), to help you select the best strains and/or cannabis-containing products to treat your medical condition. In this, the third and final column of the series, I will discuss cannabinol (aka CBN). Cannabinol is created when delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is degraded, via heat or exposure to light and oxygen. Often this occurs due to poor storage conditions, rather than as an intentional byproduct of further cannabis processing. Just leaving your cannabis out in the air for a few days, rather than in an airtight bottle in a dark cabinet, will increase the CBN concentration. Once activated, CBN has several effects, such as sedation, antiinflammatory, and antibacterial properties, to name a few. However, CBN, like CBD, does not have the psychoactive effects (the “high”) that THC does, which makes it more desirable for those who have avoided medical cannabis in the past due to such effects. Cannabis strains testing high in CBN are useful in treating several diseases. Patients suffering from insomnia who consume cannabis high in CBN have

been found to experience increased ease in both falling asleep and staying asleep. Chronic pain patients may experience decreased inflammation, leading to decreased pain. Increase in sleep in these patients may also improve mood. CBN’s anti-inflammatory properties have been shown to help treat diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, and psoriasis. Topical formulations of cannabis high in CBN have shown effectiveness in treating MRSA, a potent and difficult-totreat bacterial infection. CBN, because it is derived from THC, has similar, but weaker, effects compared to THC. CBN, in conjunction with the other cannabinoids, is believed to inhibit cancer growth as well. Unlike THC, CBN has few known side effects, even at high doses. Users are able to adjust their dose as high as they need in order to treat their disease. Psychoactive effects of CBN are mild to non-existent. Patients are usually limited by the sedative effects, but eye irritation due to redness (especially with CBN-infused eye drops) has also been reported. CBN may interact with some prescription medications, especially those with sedative effects such as opioid pain medications and benzodiazepines. Other medications, such as blood thinners, can also be affected by cannabis use. Close monitoring with lab tests, as well as selfmonitoring for increased side effects, may be needed when using cannabis while taking these prescription medications until the extent of the drug interactions and effects are known. Strains high in THC, through exposure to heat, light, or oxygen, can then become strains high in CBN. As a refresher, some strains high in THC include: Bubba Kush, Chem Dog, Ghost Train Haze, Strawberry Cough, and Girl Scout Cookies. Typically, indica-dominant strains, when left to degrade, will result in higher CBN levels. Consult High Times or Leafly.com for more examples. Growers are currently developing strains that are high in CBN without the additional time and exposure to convert THC to CBN. Dr. Kit, Pharm.D, RPh, is the co-owner of Medigrow, a Nevada grow school, established in 2008. She has also been a licensed, practicing pharmacist in Las Vegas since 2004.

Tokin’ With the Infamous

This month’s Tokin’ with the Infamous was especially chill. All I had to do was roll out to a barbeque in sunny San Diego, and catch up with my longtime friend, Big Mo, who recently took home first place at the San Diego 710 Cup, with his Romulan x P-91. The smell of carne asada in the air, the bright sun in the sky, and plenty of San Diego’s finest cannabis rolling through our lungs, made for a perfect afternoon. Just another day in the high life… Hopper: First things first, what is this that we are smoking on right now? Big Mo: This is the Romulan, Original Cut. Hopper: It is beautiful, and it tastes amazing, as always! I’ve been a fan of this strain since the beginning. Big Mo: Yeah, that’s some inner circle genetics, right there. Hopper: Nice! So, how long have you been growing? I know it’s has been a long time.

with

Big Mo: Yeah, the First Hospital Cup was in the ICU! Good times, good times! Hopper: Your crew, Dirt Brothers Seed Company, originated the AB (Afghani Bullrider), that’s a legendary strain. How did that come about? Big Mo: Our team, The Dirt Brothers, we created that back in 1996-97, somewhere back then. We took an Afghani #1 and crossed it with the legendary local San Diego strain, Bullrider, and came up with some magic. It won 1st place at the Cannabis Cup in Vancouver. We’ve been going strong every since.

Big Mo: Man…since I was twelve years old, so 32 years.

Hopper: You’re still growing that one, correct?

Hopper: 32 years deep…that is impressive. What is your favorite strain to grow?

Big Mo: Oh yeah, definitely. The original cut. Hopper: We’re both from San Diego, but we’ve recently been spending a lot of time in Las Vegas. How do you like it out there? I know I dig it. We’ve had some dope road trips, for sure!

Big Mo: My favorite strain to grow is the Afghani Bullrider. Hopper: Oh yeah, we’re definitely gonna be talking about that. I highly praise it! What is your favorite strain to smoke? Big Mo: This Romulan right here, is my favorite to smoke.

Big Mo: Las Vegas is wide open. It has great entertainment, great people. I get a lot of love from people out there, like The Red Dragon Brotherz and Vegas Cannabis Magazine. They are pioneering out there right now. It’s starting to feel like a home away from home.

Hopper & Big Mo

Hopper: Yeah, this joint we’re hitting right now is ridiculously good. Nice job, brother! In the years you have been growing, what has been the biggest change that you’ve seen in the industry? Big Mo: Wow, when we started back in the day, it was with fluorescents, you know… Hopper: Yup, and metal halides! Big Mo: That’s right! Now there are so many different lights to choose from, and there are just so many different strains out there now. It’s wide open. It’s become very advanced, there has been so much progress over the years. Hopper: On a different tip, we were supposed to do this little session for Vegas Cannabis Magazine a few months ago, but you had an incident with a rattlesnake. Are you back to 100%? I know it was gnarly there for a while in the hospital. We were all a little worried. Big Mo: Green Mojave Rattlesnakes are nothing to mess with! I am 100% back, though. Thanks for asking. Hopper: The “Hospital Cup” we did was pretty rad though, right?

Hopper: Definitely. I see big things happening out there. SD to LV all day! Are there any shout outs you want to throw before we wrap up this session? Big Mo: Yeah, for sure I want to give a shout out to Red Dragon Brotherz, and to you, Hopper Stone. Couldn’t get it going without you. Hopper: Thank you, brother. Big Mo: Also, I have to thank all of my home team, my partners. The Dirt Brothers, the whole team. Of course, everyone who is down for legalization and cannabis as medication. Hopper: Right on! On that note, let’s roll up another joint and get back to the party. Big Mo: And be sure to keep an eye out for dirtbrothersseeds.com, coming soon.

Farmer Tom Lauerman Organic Farmer, Cannabis Activist & Educator Last month, while attending the MJ Biz Conference we were honored to meet Farmer Tom Lauerman. Finding out that artist Cliff Maynard, who has been previously featured in Vegas Cannabis, lives on Farmer Tom’s farm was an unexpected bonus. Following is just a bit of insight into Farmer Tom’s cannabis world.

and we still do tours upon request. We will always encourage our future business partners and associates to do the same because It is as much about education and awareness for the new consumer as it is about growing top quality cannabis. We love that the public wants to know about cannabis and how we grow it!

VCM: First things first, who is Farmer Tom Lauerman? FARMER TOM: I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I am a lifelong surfer, skater, and mountain bike racer turned organic farmer. I started landscaping and surfing at the age of 12 and lived the SoCal dream. Our life consisted of working so we could go on surf trips in Mexico. I drove myself and my friends into Mexico for a surf trip when I was 15 ½ years old and that was the first of many. I was a lobster fisherman for a few summers and cannabis was our fuel! I’ve been a cannabis activist since 1996 when Dennis Peron and a group of cannabis activists got Prop 215 on the ballot in California and it passed. I’ve always been an advocate of clean, organic veggies and cannabis. The need to make sure that cannabis is clean of pesticides and harsh fertilizers has never been more important than it is now. With all the first time cannabis consumers we have to make sure it clean and safe to use.

VCM: We frequently feature Cliff Maynard’s roach paper art in our magazine. He is an amazing artist, tell us about your relationship with him. Is he also involved with the tours? FARMER TOM: I’ve known Cliff for few a years, we met at the MMJ Farmers Market where he was working with Safe T Driver selling his prints. He’s been living on our farm for the last couple of years and it is kind of like having Leonardo di

VCM: Where is your farm located? FARMER TOM: Vancouver, Washington - One of my goals has always been to unite the small heritage farmers who are the backbone of our Industry and make sure we are not left out of this new cannabis economy. VCM: Do you only grow cannabis? FARMER TOM: No, we also grow vegetables, all organically. For us, it’s more about our health concerns and living our organic cannabis lifestyle. We have been entering our vegetables in the county fair for the last eight years and this year not only did we win 21 Blue Ribbons, we also won Judges Choice for one of our watermelons. VCM: Are you involved with patients or do you grow for recreational sale? FARMER TOM: We have remained a medical grow because it doesn’t make sense from a financial point of view. The way the tax structure is set up here in Washington it just never penciled out financially. Until the federal government changes its stance it will be a hard road for any small farmer. I have always been a small farmer rights activist and I’m looking forward to making sure the heritage has a spot at the table. VCM: Do you give tours at your farm? FARMER TOM: We were the first outdoor cannabis farm in the world to give public tours

“Today We Farm…” - Farmer Tom Lauerman

ser Piero da Vinci or Vincent Willem van Gogh living on your farm, he is so talented that we just give him his space to create. He loves to, what he calls “Tara Forming”; we just call it weed whacking. VCM: We hear you have developed strain trading cards? Tell us about them. FARMER TOM: Last year a guy from Marvel Comics (George Leon @CustomComicShop) approached me about doing a line of cannabis trading cards and of course I said yes! I had a couple of concerns; I wanted to make sure each one of my likenesses was different so they would not weaken my brand. We did six strains - Black Knight, Amnesia Haze, Girl Scout Cookies, AK-47, Sage and Pineapple Express. You can find them on E-Bay. VCM: We hear the Feds recently visited the farm, but not for the reason one might think, can you fill us in? FARMER TOM: NIOSH and other federal agencies are realizing this industry is growing and soon will be in every state. They also realize that they need to better understand the industry. I am the first independent farmer to invite a federal agency to visit and study every aspect of cannabis production and processing.

I am also the first independent farmer to agree to become FOCUS Certified. The industry is at a critical place where the need for standards is necessary to ensure safety for all in this young stage as cannabis moves across the country. The feds will at some point mandate standards if we don’t first and it is critical that all farmers understand the reasons they need to be standards compliant. VCM: Do you consider yourself a cannabis activist? FARMER TOM: Yes, I’m a cannabis activist and furthermore, I’m also a small farmer’s rights activist so I guess that makes me a cannabis farmer’s rights activist. What I’m advocating for is what all of us heritage farmers have been doing for years; growing the highest quality product as organically as possible while ensuring that the public receives the best that we can give them. I’m heading up FOCUS’s group of our independent farmers/growers. This workgroup is dedicated to insuring that FOCUS standards are developed with no bias to the small farmers who really created the industry! VCM: Who inspires you? FARMER TOM: Small farmers across this country who have lost everything trying to save their farms. This is what drives me to suit up and show up every day! And my passion is to be a part of laying the foundation for a Safe and Successful Cannabis Economy! VCM: Favorite strains? FARMER TOM: Cinex, Amnesia Haze and Da Purps VCM: Any last words or quotes? FARMER TOM: Like I say to my wife everyday “Maybe not tomorrow or the week after, but today honey we get to farm.” To find out more about Farmer Tom, visit www.FarmerTomOrganics.com

About artist Cliff Maynard:

Cliff Maynard creates roach paper art using the leftover butts from marijuana cigarettes. He saves the paper scraps or “roach papers” and uses the brown tones as his “palate”. By trimming away the unwanted bits it becomes a lot like working a jigsaw puzzle, but way harder and far more time consuming. All of Cliff’s original artwork is made from just roach papers and nothing else. No pen, marker, or paint of any kind is used during the process. The finished art is simply amazing. This month, we feature the picture that Cliff created of Farmer Tom. For more information about Cliff, visit www.Chronic-Art.com.

Bet It All On Green Medical Benefits of CBD Massage By: Jason Sturtsman

After years of cannabis prohibition, topical usage of cannabidiol (CBD) salves, massage oils, and lotions are rapidly gaining popularity. CBD is a non-psychoactive component of cannabis that has numerous health benefits. Locals and visitors have a new way to relax and reduce pain throughout their body with CBD massage. From regular use of CBD massage salve during personal massages, I can attest to its benefits versus a regular massage. As many people switch to natural modalities such as therapeutic massage, it’s no wonder that a lot of people are more open to the notion of using CBD cannabis oil as part of their wellness therapy for getting rid of stress and inflammation. Many dispensaries in Las Vegas offer CBD massage products, which can be provided to their massage therapist for application. CBD massage is beneficial to people with various health conditions, ranging from anxiety, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibro-

myalgia, and skin diseases. In Colorado, cannabis massage oil and lotion has even presented a booming niche to massage centers and wellness businesses. There are many reasons as to why using CBD cannabis oil products for massage is superior to normal massage. Cannabis CBD oil can be applied directly to your

skin and it has many positive health effects such as: •

INFLAMMATION REDUCTION: site based reduction in inflammation due to arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other

conditions. •

PAIN REDUCTION: reduction of pain due to vertebrae issues, muscle soreness, and nerve pain.

SKIN MOISTURIZER: the CBD cannabis oil serves as a natural moisturizer in our dry desert climate.

My own experience with CBD oil structural integration massages has resulted in me feeling more relaxed, having a greater range of movement, feeling emotionally upbeat, and experiencing less pain. “Structural Integration”, as explained to me by Adrienne Loper, realigns and balances the body around the center line by focusing and working with the fascia of the body. Fascia is a web of fibrous connective tissue that must be elastic in order to move freely with the muscles and bones. I have joined the enthusiastic devotees of cannabis massage therapy which provides a non-pharmaceutical solution to soreness, inflammation, or skin illnesses. I would highly encourage you to visit your local dispensary and pick up a CBD lotion or salve and contact a massage therapist that offers structural integration. Legal

Marijuana Patients, Firearms and Concealed Carry Licenses in Nevada By: Derek J. Connor Esq.

As most marijuana patients and users are well aware, marijuana remains illegal under federal law. However, most patients are not aware that simply by being a marijuana user, they are federally prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition. Federal law not withstanding, Nevada state law places no such specific restriction on legal marijuana patients. However, patients are not legally permitted to be under the influence of marijuana (or any intoxicating substance) while in actual control of a firearm. Actual control is generally defined as carrying, shooting, hunting, etc. Until very recently, legal marijuana patients

were able to apply for a concealed carry permit in Clark County, Nevada and other counties within the state. Unfortunately, in a shocking reversal of prior policy the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has recently stripped medical marijuana patients’ qualification for concealed carry permits in Clark County. Prior to the abrupt policy change, Clark County’s conceal carry permit application did not

ask whether an applicant was a medical marijuana patient. However, recent

changes to the Clark County application plainly state that marijuana patients do not qualify for a conceal carry permit in Clark County due to the federal prohibition on marijuana. It is unclear if other counties will follow suit. It is also unclear how Metro would verify whether or not an applicant is a medical marijuana patient as the list of patients is required by law to be confidential. The only reason Metro or any other law enforcement agency is permitted to access the list of patients is to determine whether or not an individual is allowed to possess marijuana for medical purposes. Thus, if Metro or any other law enforcement agency is cross-referencing the list of patients with the names of conceal carry applicants, they could be doing so in violation of Nevada law. If you have questions regarding your rights as a medical marijuana patient you should contact a qualified Nevada attorney. Derek J. The legend of Potluck travels many joints, bongs and roaches. Arguably the greatest duo in stoner music history, they are back at it again (I don’t think they ever stopped), releasing another classic album from the legendary hills of Humboldt. I was able to catch up with my long time buds, Underrated and 1 Ton, to get you the latest on their newest delivery. If you are in town you can catch them on the Hott Boxx Holidaze tour w/ Devin the Dude passing through Las Vegas Country Saloon on December 2nd.

By: Dustin Amato

DUSTIN: Potluck seems to be relentlessly touring. How do you still find time to record and always drop new heaters? UNDERRATED: Music is just part of our lives. We think about music every day, it kinda just pours out of us. I’m constantly making beats at home and on the tour bus. 1 Ton is always thinking of new ideas for songs and videos. It works perfectly because ones weakness is the other ones strength. When we have enough music and ideas we just get together and share what we got. Then we make sure we like what each other has come up with, collaborate and record. DUSTIN: So, the Latest project #StonerProblems that just dropped in Stores, what can fans expect from the new album? UNDERRATED: The new album is the next chapter in our lives. We make all types of songs about love, life, partying, music, and of course weed. We always make sure each album is better than the last. The beats are better, the raps are more confident, and the mixes are more on point. As long as we keep getting better our fans keep riding with us! DUSTIN: Any dope features? UNDERRATED: We got some dope features for sure… We got Krizz Kaliko from Strange Music, Wrekonize from MayDay, and Irv Da PHENOM! We got Liquid Assassin and Black P, we got Winstrong who is a dope reggae singer, and we got a few Humboldt people we always collab with that always kill it. The album is well rounded for sure. DUSTIN: The 4 minute drill is consistently one of the fastest and illest flows of the year, what track(s) on the album brings the rapid fire delivery? UNDERRATED: Rapping fast has always been something I loved doing. It’s always dope when I rap fast and 1 Ton does the slower flow on the same track. Other songs like that on the album are Blow Ya Head Off, Better Me, and Smokin’ Good. DUSTIN: The final mix on your records always sound so good, who does your mastering? UNDERRATED: El Hefe of NOFX has a lot to do with how our records sound. He has helped mix every album we’ve ever released, he has an amazing ear! We got this last album #StonerProblems mastered by a dude name Paul Miner out of SoCal. He did an awesome job!

DUSTIN: I know you guys are avid sports junkies. When you perform in Vegas are you also hitting up the sports book? Who you got this Season? UNDERRATED: Ya, Ton always has the Chargers! I got the Bengals! We’ve made bets in Vegas when we come through for sure. We are big on the DraftKings Daily Fantasy also. DUSTIN: With the Pre-Hangover tour just wrapping up, what’s next? Is there a #stonerproblems release tour? Who is going on that tour? UNDERRATED: We are going on tour with Devin The Dude, it’s called the Happy Holidaze Tour. We will be out the whole holiday season, November and December, smoking big and partying. We are going to be doing a bunch of new songs off the #StonerProblems album. DUSTIN: What’s your favorite part of performing in Las Vegas? UNDERRATED: Vegas is always sick cause everyone there is all about the partying. It never stops! We get to perform and then party until the sun comes up if we want to. DUSTIN: Favorite casino to stay at? UNDERRATED: There’s a lot, if it’s a fight weekend, MGM Grand. If it’s New Years, the Stratosphere for the fireworks. When we have shows, whatever hotel is closest to the show. Vegas has a bunch of nice hotels, that’s like asking me which Playboy model I wanna hookup with. DUSTIN: I know you guys are always getting that fire, what have you been smoking on lately? UNDERRATED: The big thing for me is smoking on that Humboldt organic outdoor these days. It’s so natural and tastes so good. Trainwreck has been putting me in the right mood to get in the studio and kill beats… Also, Crippler and that Purple Mr. Nice. I do dabs every now and then for that extra high. 1 TON: We always say it’s not the strain, it’s the farmer, if you got the right farmer it’s gonna be good. I’m always gonna select farmer before strain, but of the strains, I like Zkittlez and Cookies. DUSTIN: Any closing thoughts or shout-outs? UNDERRATED: We produced a side project with Black Pegasus on the mic as the rapping President entitled Flobama. It’s political season and it’s some good hip hop. Check it out! Also, check us out on social media: Facebook, Instagram & Twitter @ POTLUCKMUSIC and keep up with new music dropping, tour dates, and just what’s going on with us 24/7. Thank you to all the fans who have supported us over the years… We moving stronger than ever! Let’s go!
