A Mother's Journey with Cannabis Dr. Annabelle Manalo-Morgan

With the very asymmetrical laws regarding cannabis across the country that vary greatly based on state, city and even local municipality, millions of Americans still live in states with prohibitive laws surrounding medical cannabis. Even if there is a legitimate medical need for cannabis and the plant has undeniably proven to help in a way that pharmaceuticals don’t, there are still a decent number of states that prohibit any cannabis use whatsoever. Instead of waiting around for stubborn or indifferent career politicians to take any legislative action on cannabis reform, citizens of those states still living in prohibition have begun packing up their lives and moving to states with options for access to legalized cannabis.

Sometimes called “medical refugees'', thousands of Americans have had to relocate to other states with medical cannabis laws due to the restrictive nature of their home state. The majority of these Americans are far from the Cheech and Chong stereotype. They’re involved and give back to their community in innumerable ways, yet haven’t had a single bit of relief from the laundry list of pharmaceuticals that are medically legal on the federal level. Even more tragically, many of the families that have relocated to other states did so because one of their very own children were the ones who needed medical cannabis.

One notable example of a medical refugee suffering from severe epilepsy who’s family moved from Texas to Colorado and became a strongly dedicated and frankly legendary cannabis activist in the process is Alexis Bortell. After moving to Colorado, cannabis proved to be the only medicine that stopped Bortell’s seizures. By using her story of true medical relief through cannabis and with the assistance of her family among which is her father US Navy veteran Dean Bortell, she became a nationally known cannabis advocate being interviewed by America’s biggest news stations.

And remarkably at only 12 years old, Bortell wrote a book entitled “Let's Talk About Medical Cannabis: One of the Earliest Medical Communities Seen Through the Eyes of its Youngest Advocate.” Even more notable on the federal level, Bortell was a co-plaintiff in a groundbreaking 2017 lawsuit against the Justice Department, then helmed by everyone’s favorite Drug War-obsessed Keebler elf turned Attorney General, Jeff Sessions.

Especially in the following years and subsequent legalization measures since that lawsuit, the parents of children who’ve become medical cannabis patients have become among cannabis’ strongest advocates. The stress of your child having a condition as serious as intractable epilepsy is already horrible enough, but it’s an unimaginable further challenge when the only medicine that truthfully helps your child is illegal in the state that you’ve lived in since long before you had your first child. That combined stress and horror of watching your child suffer have turned these parents into dedicated medical cannabis advocates and they’ve used their

experience for considerable change and awareness regarding cannabis.

One such example of one of these parents whose child found undeniable medical relief through cannabis is Dr. Annabelle Manalo-Morgan. An esteemed scientist by day, ManaloMorgan began her doctoral studies at Georgetown University in neuroscience and received her PhD in Cell and Development Biology from Vanderbilt University where her studies focused on “genetic mutations that mimic the offset effects that chemotherapy has on heart disease.” Due to her extensive education in scientific fields that are very relevant towards the study of the medical possibilities of cannabis, Manalo-Morgan has served in a variety of prestigious research-based roles for many high-profile multi-state and even international operators. One such company that she served as the Chief Scientific Officer for the Israel-based cultivator Tikkun Olam for over three years. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors of Flora Growth, a multi-state operator listed on the NASDAQ. Dr. Monalo-Morgan even serves as a visiting scientist at her alma mater of Vanderbilt and concurrently as Scientific Advisor at plant research company Quanta Inc.

“From Israel to South Korea to Africa to South America and more,” Dr. Manalo-Morgan recollected, “I’ve consulted on research initiatives for cannabis at the government level and have collaborated on a handful of clinical trials.”

Originally though, the cell and developmental biologist didn’t have a strong passion to study cannabis in as detailed of a manner as she does now.

“I had no special interest in studying cannabis.” Dr. Manalo-Morgan explained. It’s not that I didn’t want to, it just never came across my desk nor was there a funding opportunity to do so. Scientifically, compounds from cannabis are no different than others we use in the lab but again, the opportunity just never came up.”

However in 2016, Dr. Manalo-Morgan and her husband experienced a deeply troubling nightmare that no parent should ever have to endure. Their son, Macario, essentially experienced a stroke when he was being born and due to this traumatic brain injury, would have up to 200 seizures a day all while in only the first weeks of his life. While this would be horrifying enough for any parent in this situation, not a single one of the pharmaceuticals that the doctors could use proved to be useful in stopping Macario’s hourly seizures. Eventually at only a month old, the doctors trying to treat him were forced to perform a daunting procedure.

“At 28 days old, Macario had 38% of his brain removed.” Dr. ManaloMorgan recounted. “He was predicted to never walk, talk, or even eat on his own. The pharmaceuticals never “failed” my son, he just wasn’t developing at all. As a 6 month old, he was no different than

18 Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014
>>>

a newborn.”

The diagnosis for the future health of her son seemed dire given the substantial amount of his brain that was removed, yet the brilliant scientist would soon find compounds that are entirely organic to treat her son’s condition and give him a chance at a quality life that all children deserve to live uninterrupted by such a serious health issue.

Seeing obvious proof of the cannabis plant given the profound impact the plant’s medicines had on her son’s condition with an emphasis on cannabidiol, Dr. Manalo-Morgan would become one of cannabis’ most passionate scientists. Within only days of utilizing CBD-based medicines for her son’s condition, she began to see improvements. He began to express proper emotions and was even up walking by 14 months.

“Now a happy and healthy toddler, Macario is living proof of the power of science.” the website for Dr. Manalo-Morgan reads.

Since the miracle that cannabis-based medicines provided for her son, the scientist has spoken at several conferences across the country for many different organizations with a plethora of causes. From the Thinking Autism International Conference in 2019 to the Holistic Health and Wellness Forum for Multiple Sclerosis and even the American Society of Cannabis Medicine. To dedicate herself further to the medicine that drastically improved the quality of her son’s life, Dr. Manalo-Morgan even founded her own CBD brand called Masaya Medical in 2019.

“I firmly believe I was chosen.” she explains on the website for Masaya Medical. “This was meant to happen so I could give everything that I gave to Macario to people across the world. This is now my passion and my purpose.”

To tell the miraculous story of her son receiving improvement from cannabis-based medicines to a country that is deeply entrenched in the battle for medical cannabis access and patient rights, Dr. Manalo-Morgan published a book through ForbesBooks entitled “Mighty Flower: How Cannabis Saved My Son.” In the captivating book, she discusses how terrifying her son’s condition and the prognosis from the doctors were but also the many risks that she took in ensuring that her son had an opportunity to have as normal of a life and fulfilled childhood as possible.

“Mighty Flower defines the cannabis plant that this book is all about,” the preface of Mighty Flower reads. “a plant that has so much power and so much potential. It’s time to let cannabis bloom into everything

it could be.”

Scientists who are as established and as published as Dr. Manalo-Morgan will undeniably be very influential in the advent of medical cannabis and the acceptance of the plant in the medical professional community. As a major pillar of cannabis’ Schedule I status on the Controlled Substances list is that there’s no “acceptable medical use” for the plant, the thorough research of cannabis scientists and doctors will provide concrete evidence into the thousands of tales of personal medical efficacy of cannabis, a sentiment that the scientist would certainly agree with.

“The scientific data is the medical backbone for the thousands of anecdotal reports that we hear about daily. If we invest into science, we become stronger in the unveiling of the power of cannabis.”

Dr. Manalo-Morgan recently hosted a book signing and question and answer session event in Las Vegas with Jardin Premium Cannabis Dispensary. At the very informative event, she spoke to about two dozen Jardin employees about her very seasoned experience in the intricate world of cannabis science vs. pharmaceuticals and the triumphant story of her son Macario. As Jardin is primarily a women-led dispensary with a considerable amount of the employees being mothers themselves, Dr. Manalo-Morgan’s message and story resonated very empathetically among many of the employees.

While she’s incredibly knowledgeable and influential in the field of cannabis medicine and science, Dr. Manalo-Morgan is also a mother to five children, so motherhood is another subject she speaks about with an equivalent amount of experience in. Beyond just cannabis medicine advice and research, the scientist gave ample advice on both parenting in general and specifically how parents can properly process when their child is going through a terrifying medical episode such as the one that Macario lived through.

Jardin has hosted an impressive lineup of undaunted cannabis speakers, professionals and educators over the past year, so the inclusion of Dr. Manalo-Morgan given her status as one of medical cannabis’ most dedicated and decorated scientists was certainly necessary. However, medical cannabis as necessarily thorough and federally funded as what will be needed to undoubtedly show cannabis’ medical potential can’t truthfully be completed given cannabis’ unexplainable Schedule I status.

Dr. Manalo-Morgan believes that there may only truly be one way that this research could be completed on the federal level, and it’s by descheduling on that very powerful level.

While cannabis legalization measures create economic and employment opportunities along with giving safe and legal access to medical cannabis patients, it should always be importantly remembered that none of those bills and legislation would’ve come into fruition without the tireless work of cannabis advocates meeting with their democratically elected representatives. Whether it be a piece of legislation on the state level or a federal reform bill that could be groundbreaking nationwide, none of these bills would’ve had a chance of survival had it not been for activists for the multi-useful plant passionately walking the halls of their respective Capitol buildings and telling their deeply personal stories to the representatives who will be crucial in the vote for those reforms.

One such organization of strong Nevadan cannabis advocates whose members recently took a very meaningful trip to our nation’s capital was Minorities for Medical Marijuana. A national cannabis reform organization dedicated to diversifying the cannabis community and industry as well as the voices of advocates, M4MM has chapters and state directors in 27 states and counting. In the Nevada chapter, there are a number of courageous champions for cannabis such as National Community Program Director Nicole Buffong who has been featured in numerous articles over her years in cannabis advocacy.

“More than 20 individuals from all over the country met in Washington DC to use their voices to represent their respective states.” Buffong said. “The objective was to discuss policy that was already in motion on capitol hill that would affect the cannabis and hemp industry in the country.”

Another warrior of a cannabis advocate who accompanied Nevada M4MM members is Christina Thomas. A woman of many titles and accomplishments, Thomas is an Air Force veteran and mother as well as a certified medical cannabis consultant who has advocated for her fellow brave veterans through a variety of roles and strategies for two decades.

“I work on Mayor Goodman and Governor Lombardo’s Challenge Veteran initiative teams for the state of Nevada and Las Vegas as well as being a part of the State Health Improvement Planning Committee.” Thomas said.

“I am the Chair to Southern Nevada Veterans’ Mental Health Advocacy Council as well as the President to the Veterans Advocacy Council’s Community Development Coalition that works to braid together local, state and federal resources for the community that is run by veteran directors, liaisons and families that support the betterment of the community.”

Thomas’ work is vital in the unfortunately still occurring battle against the suffering of American veterans following their service. I don’t believe that it violates journalistic objectivity to say that our nation’s heroes who bravely fought for our freedoms deserve nothing but the absolute best from both life and country, yet that’s a positive sentiment that’s tragically far from the truth in many cases.

From the laundry list of potentially dangerous pharmaceuticals to the lack of proper health services that the underfunded Veterans Affairs could offer, veterans issues still need and deserve all the advocacy that those matters could receive.

“We serve more than our veterans although our focus is to ensure our veterans and families are taken care of first. Our work is along the lines of housing, hiring and whole healthcare to include alternative therapies.”

During their recent mission in Washington which coincided with both her and Buffong’s appearances as panelists at the National Cannabis Festival in DC, M4MM advocated for and met with representatives regarding a number of bills with tremendous potential for desperately needed reform on the federal level. The first being the reintroduction of the SAFE Banking Act, this time being sponsored mainly in Congress by a Republican representative; David Joyce of Ohio. This bill would essentially allow any FDIC-insured bank, which is the overwhelming majority of nationally located

banks, to allow financial services to state-legal cannabis businesses.

“With very intentional language added to the bill we support The Safe Banking Act.” Buffong explained. “This intentional language would have to allow small banks to give loans to cannabis companies and to allow US cannabis companies to be valued on the US Stock Exchange. As it is written now, there is not enough language to protect banks that want to make loans and do business with cannabis companies.”

Buffong discussed the financial impact that the current lack of banking services has on smaller cannabis companies in comparison to multistate operators or cultivations with exorbitantly wealthy investors and backers. “Safe banking is not being supported by big operators as they have the money to wait this out. The small operators and social equity brands do not have the same resources. Without the security and safety of operating a legal business by having access to banking, they will fail.”

This most recently filed iteration of the SAFE Banking Act has certain provisions attached to it that could be incredibly beneficial towards both Thomas’ fellow veterans and the thousands of Americans irreparably impacted by cannabis policy of yesteryear. The Harnessing Opportunities by Pursuing Expungement (HOPE) Act would incentivize states and local municipalities to provide badly needed expungement opportunities for nonviolent cannabis charges for their citizens and the Veterans Marijuana Research Act which would allow further research on how medical cannabis could treat PTSD-related conditions. And for the veterans that wish to still have their 2nd Amendment rights protected despite the fact that they’re medical cannabis patients, there would also be a provision ensuring that gun rights stay intact via the Gun Rights and Marijuana (GRAM) Act.

Another bill that is especially personal to Thomas is an amendment that would allow veterans working in the cannabis industry to still have access to home loans from the VA

22 Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014

that they are currently barred from given their employment.

Whichever Congressional member comes up with these clever names must feel extremely proud of themselves.

Other bills that were discussed include the bill introduced by South Carolina Congresswoman Rep. Nancy Mace. A lifelong Republican, Mace’s States Reform Act would remove cannabis from the frequently discredited status of Schedule 1. This single piece of legislation would allow for major reforms specifically within the advancement of medical cannabis research that has been largely hindered by the drug war.

Beyond even solely cannabis reform, Thomas and Buffong advocated for agriculture bills that would positively impact the rapidly growing industrial hemp industry that has been constructed since the 2018 Farm Bill. As the descendent of generations of farmers, the 2023 Farm Bill is another bill that Thomas is strongly advocating for.

“For me as an heir of a century old farm who was raised farming and in forestry as a Future Farmer of America,” Thomas explained, “I had a full understanding of what it was to talk about agriculture and its impact. I watched my father, a Vietnam Veteran himself, fall victim as an organic small business farmer under the Department of Agriculture back in the 80s and 90s.”

Although social equity’s inclusion in the cannabis industry is a frequently discussed topic, how the industrial hemp could be more inclusive towards minority farmers is also a matter worth advocating for. In her meetings with various representatives, Thomas talked about the multiple ways that an expansion of the multi-useful hemp cultivation industry could be economically advantageous.

“We also covered the utilization of hemp as crop for toxic land site remediation, to include increasing the economic support for minority

hemp cultivators and licensed hemp processors through the 2023 Farm Bill.” Thomas said.

While statewide cannabis reform measures are undeniably worthwhile for many reasons, cannabis advocates should remember how farreaching federal pieces of cannabis legislation could be and should visit DC themselves to meet with their representatives on the federal level. As a longtime cannabis advocate, this is a sentiment that Thomas certainly agrees with and sees the overall usefulness of traveling to our nation’s capital in the name of large-scale cannabis reform that would positively impact the American people beyond just allowing them to legally smoke weed.

“To act as though we have a fair and safe justice system while we still have prisoners serving time for cannabis is enough said.” Thomas mentioned. “To act like special populations have fair social justice experiences while looking at the populations that have been disenfranchised and continuously left out of the very resources all Americans should have access to would be a lie. We are not unified and we are more divided now than ever, therefore we must have organizations and corporations that are willing to be the change and stand up and unify with the people by setting the example.”

On the state level, Thomas, Buffong and other M4MM advocates had a key meeting with Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen. On the Senate side of the United States Legislature, Rosen recently introduced the latest iteration of the SAFE Banking Act and Thomas previously organized a tour of Flower One’s for the office of Senator Rosen, so the synagogue president-turnedNevada senator has shown continuous support for cannabis reform on the federal level.

“The legal cannabis industry in Nevada has helped create jobs, boost our economy, and bring in hundreds of millions in tax revenue,” said Senator Rosen in a press release on her website. “These businesses still experience systemic challenges, including not being able to access banking services. I’m helping to

reintroduce the bipartisan SAFE Banking Act to continue the fight to open up banking services for legal cannabis businesses and create more opportunities for these businesses to thrive.”

In total, the M4MM team visited an astonishing number of elected officials in a very short period of time. “Our team touched over 200 elected officials in 3 days and made enough impact for the Senate to reintroduce The Safe Banking Act the week after our lobbying days.” Buffong recounted. The M4MM team even met and took a photo with one of cannabis’ strongest supporters in the Senate, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, following a Judiciary Committee meeting conveniently being hosted on 420.

“All of these initiatives create restorative justice for the social economic impact that cannabis, marijuana or hemp can have on this country.” Thomas brought up. “This is reparations in a structured way to help aid our minorities and communities as a whole in restructuring our land, environment, water, economy with the necessary language for progressive lawmakers to ensure restorative social justice is implemented. population. The dissonance amongst our community comes from lack of understanding, experience, exposure and education. History is within the people, not in the data.”

The objective reality that cannabis bills are even being introduced in the United States Legislature shows how far the country has come in the discussion of cannabis reform. Yet, that reality also shows how ripe and malleable the many issues and future pieces of legislation surrounding cannabis reform are for activists to shape in the favor of their communities.

“That’s the disservice of so many voters that continuously state they are for justice, but they continue to vote for leaders that are limited in living experience, education and history. We must do the right thing for everyone, not our personal gain and our limited perspectives. Until we can do that as a country we will always need a M4MM to show up and lead the way.”

ENHANCING YOUR CANNABIS EXPERIENCE >>> with Terpene-Rich Food

Most of us have heard consuming a mango before using cannabis can enhance its effects. But did you know that it's not just mangos that can have this impact? Anecdotal evidence suggests that consuming terpene-rich foods that share similar terpenes with cannabis, about 20 minutes before consumption, can amplify the effects experienced. In other words, the food we eat can actually improve the way cannabis works for us. For consumers, this could result in less product needed for the desired effects, and for medical patients, it can also help to enhance the therapeutic benefits they require to lead better lives. Let’s explore the various foods that can complement the effects of the eight most recognized terpenes in the United States.

Myrcene

The terpene myrcene is where the original idea of eating a mango before smoking cannabis derived from, as they are known to be high in myrcene. However, so is lemongrass, thyme, cardamom, chamomile, bay leaves, guava melon, and hops. That’s right! Even our favorite brew is filled with the benefits of myrcene and can enhance the effects of myrcene rich cannabis strains. Some recipes to try with myrcene rich foods include, mango salsa, mango smoothies or popsicles, lemongrass or chamomile tea, and roasted potatoes or chicken seasoned with thyme.

Limonene

Lemonade is perfect for a hot summer’s day in Las Vegas, and ironically pairs amazingly well with our favorite limonene strains. Limonene is predominantly found in citrus fruits and rinds and can also be sourced from rosemary, fennel, and mint. Dishes made with lemon, such as lemon roasted chicken or lemon bars, are a great pair for limonene strains. You can also sip on mint and lemon teas to experience the elevated effects.

Terpinolene

A warm bowl of chili or curry may not be ideal for the warm months, but they do accompany your favorite terpinolene strains well as they

both have cumin. If chili and curry do not appeal to you with the hot weather at current, terpinolene is also in nutmeg, apples, sage, rosemary, and allspice. For a lighter option, try some rosemary baked fries, or a baked apple to enhance the effects of your terpinolene strain.

Linalool

Adding mint to your drinks is a great way to gain the benefits linalool-rich foods have to offer. You can also find the terpene in lavender, coriander, and cinnamon. Lavender lemonade, chia pudding with cinnamon, or a watermelon salad with fresh lime and mint are great choices to pair with your cannabis.

Caryophyllene

Almost every kitchen has black pepper, and in turn also has the power of caryophyllene. Caryophyllene can be found in an array of herbs including rosemary, oregano, basil, black caraway, black pepper, cinnamon, clove, hops, and lavender. Almost anything can be made with a dose of caryophyllene to leverage the benefits it offers. Some fun recipes to try include black pepper chicken, ravioli, caprese salad, and a golden milk latte made with turmeric and a dash of black pepper.

Pinene

Pickles are a delicious and salty snack that goes great with a high pinene cannabis strain. Pinene can be found in dill, parsley, basil, rosemary, sage, as well as citrus rinds and pine nuts. Try a delicious pesto with pasta or a sandwich or try a savory fish with dill dish and experience the elevated effects pinene-rich foods can deliver.

Ocimene

Ocimene is found

in most restaurants as the refreshing parsley garnish that accompanies your plate. It is also found in mint, lavender, hops, black pepper, mangos, kumquats, and tarragon. You can sip on mint and tarragon teas, eat kumquat jam with toast, or indulge in creamy tarragon chicken to enhance the effects of your favorite ocimene cannabis strains.

Humulene

A ginger or spearmint tea is great to sip on before indulging in your favorite humulene strain. Humulene can be found in ginger, clove, black pepper, ginseng, basil, hops, sage, and spearmint. If tea is not for you, try a mojito mocktail with mulled spearmint paired with a delicious basil and sage pasta to boost the effects of humulene.

In Nevada, we are fortunate to have a regulation that requires brands to disclose the top three terpenes present in each cannabis strain. This information is invaluable as it allows us to make informed decisions about the kind of experiences we seek from our cannabis products. Additionally, it provides us with the opportunity to strategically pair our favorite strains with foods rich in specific terpenes to enhance their effects even further. Next time you pick up your favorite cannabis strain try pairing it with a terpene rich food to elevate the effects and make cannabis work the best way it can for you.

Mary Jones Cannabis Sodas & Edibles EXPANDS TO NEVADA

Jones Soda Co., the original craft soda known for its unconventional flavors and user-submitted photo labels, recently announced an agreement expanding distribution of its new Mary Jones cannabisinfused beverage brand to Nevada. The Mary Jones line debuted last June in California.

Mary Jones already ranks as the #1 seller in the cannabis-infused carbonated beverage category in California, where it is carried in more than 275 dispensaries. Retail adoption has been so rapid, fueled by Jones Soda’s reputation for flavor innovation and iconoclastic brand persona, that Mary Jones has become the fastest new cannabis brand launch in the state.

Mary Jones manufacturing and distribution in Nevada will be handled by Maxxx Labs, a cannabis contract manufacturing and distribution company specializing in beverage manufacturing.

Expected to be in dispensaries this summer, Mary Jones will launch with the full portfolio of current products, including their 10mg and 100mg THC-infused sodas and THCinfused syrups. The launch will also include Mary Jones edibles in multiple flavors and formats. All products will be available in a variety of flavors that taste exactly like the mainline Jones craft sodas that have been top sellers for over 25 years. Limited-edition flavors will be added seasonally.

The brand’s 10mg sodas are packaged in single-serving 12 oz glass bottles sold in 4-pack carriers. The 100mg sodas come in 16 oz resealable, child-resistant, multi-serve cans designed for paced consumption and/ or social sharing with friends. The syrups come in 4 fl glass bottles containing 100mg of THC for multiple servings that can be added to any soda, used as a cocktail mixer, sipped straight from the bottle, drizzled over desserts, or used to infuse favorite recipes.

“As the first branded soda company to expand into the cannabis space, we have

unique advantages that include 26 years of brand recognition, deep flavor science expertise, and an edgy brand personality that’s a perfect fit for the canna culture,” said Mark Murray, President and CEO of Jones Soda Company. “These attributes have already helped turn Mary Jones into California’s top infused carbonated beverage and the state’s fastest-growing cannabis brand, and we fully expect similar success in Washington, Michigan, Nevada and every other market we enter.”

"This collaboration presents a unique opportunity to combine our expertise in cannabis manufacturing with Jones Soda's well-known creativity in beverage development,” said Paul Schmitz, CEO of Core Investment Group, the parent company of Maxxx Labs. “We will be bringing canna consumers in Nevada new products that I fully expect to fly off the shelves and continue building Mary Jones into a leading brand in the space."

“Nevada is unique, with a hometown group of consumers matched by a large tourist population. We want each of them to have a great Mary Jones experience to talk about when they get home” said Bohb Blair, CMO of Jones Soda & CBO of Mary Jones.

The first Nevada dispensaries to carry Mary Jones products will be announced on the ‘Where To Buy’ page at www.gomaryjones. com shortly before launch.

A CANNABIS STATE OF MIND

A healthy state of mind is as important in today’s world as physical fitness. There was a time when mental health was ignored, avoided and discounted. Thankfully, we are now more aware that the mind, body and spirit must work in unison to achieve optimal health, happiness and purpose.

We are researching cannabis more now than ever before, and scientists conclude that the active ingredient, THC, along with its other components like terpenes and cannabinoids, do have positive effects on mental health! It is derived from the cannabis sativa plants and has certain medicinal functions. The age-old misconceptions regarding its use have hindered the image of cannabis. Here are some of the amazing mental health benefits of cannabis to attain a peaceful and sound mind.

Anxiety and Depression

We live in a world of chaos and uncertainty, and anxiety disorders are increasing at an alarming rate. Our heavy work schedules, the economy and relationships all combine to cause the onset of ailments like sexual dysfunction, insomnia and headaches. Cannabis can induce the release of endorphins. They make you feel better about yourself.

With the right strain and dosage, you can decrease your level of depression, and in many cases, the depression gradually goes away. A study also highlights the ability of cannabis to sharpen cognitive abilities. Thus, cannabis acts as a therapeutic medicine in the treatment of depression and helps in clearing your mind to regain your mental health.

Seizures

Cannabis is known to improve the health of the brain by invigorating the electrical activity. It has antiseizure effects on the brain that facilitate patients in dealing with epilepsy. Those suffering from Dravet syndrome can also benefit from the regular use of cannabis. A study was conducted on the patients of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome to check the efficiency of cannabis in curing seizures. The

results that came out were favorable and the doctors have continued to gather more information about this.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is characterized by the impairment of the brain function to the extent that the patients lose their sense of reality. Some of the symptoms of the mental ailment include hallucinations and speech problems.

It has been found that cannabis has antipsychotic effects on the brain. It helps in the ability of the nervous system to connect all the neurons and transmit appropriate messages to the body parts. A study concluded that cannabis plays a vital role in the treatment of schizophrenia and dementia

Cognitive Abilities

Cannabis is good for the memory. As we age, our brain goes through a gradual degenerative process. You can slow down the process and enhance the capability of your brain by using cannabis. It has a therapeutic effect on the mind and improves the power to focus, retain, learn, and comprehend.

This happens due to the presence of antiinflammatory properties in it. The direct result is the strengthening of the brain and the treatment of neuro-inflammatory diseases like meningitis and sepsis.

PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder stems from a negative or unpleasant past experience that had a major impact on the brain. The patient who suffers from PTSD relives the trauma repeatedly even after a long period of time.

The treatment of PTSD requires an increase of serotonin levels. This is where you can use cannabis as it is known to induce the creation of serotonin in the brain. It also helps when dealing with some of the symptoms associated with PTSD, including insomnia and recurrent nightmares.

Stress

Stress puts an extreme amount of pressure on our health. We may experience the “flight or fight mode” which causes the blood pressure to increase, pupils to dilate and the heart rate to increase. As a result, we release a hormone called cortisol, aka the stress hormone. When you use cannabis products, they travel through your bloodstream, and it aids in lifting your mood. It manages your appetite and induces the feeling of calmness in the body. You may find yourself dealing with less panic attacks, and more in control of your emotions.

Sleep

The importance of uninterrupted, quality sleep is extremely critical for our mental, physical and sexual health. The nerve cells communicate better, thinking becomes clearer and the tandem between thoughts and actions increases.

Conditions like stress, anxiety and insomnia may disrupt your sleeping patterns, and cannabis manages to provide ample rest for the body. You can avoid the sleep disruption by using a cannabis product on a regular basis.

Peace of Mind

Cannabis and its compounds like CBD have largely been associated with psychoactive effects on the body. It is time we changed our perceptions and realized the medicinal benefits of this amazing plant!

Amanita Mushrooms

A Legal Psychedelic?

Disclaimer: We do not encourage illegal activity. Check with and adhere to your local laws. We do not claim psychedelics or plant medicine to be a substitute for professional medical care. Always consult with your doctor. The goal of this article is to promote entertainment, safety and education.

If you frequent smoke shops, you’ve probably noticed Amanita mushrooms popping up on shelves. Often advertised as "legal psychedelics," there’s a lot you need to know about Amanita before trying it.

What is Amanita Muscaria?

Amanita muscaria, also known as fly agaric or Santa Claus mushroom, is an iconic fungus. You may recognize its bright red cap and white spots from cartoons like the Smurfs or Super Mario Brothers video games. The mushroom is sometimes earthy orange or pale yellow with white gills and contains two alkaloids: psychoactive muscimal and a neurotoxin called ibotenic acid.

The History of Amanita Muscaria

The indigenous peoples of Siberia are of the first known communities to consume the mushroom as part of their spiritual practice. They believed it to be a mystical medicine that helped them commune with the spirit world, heal people and predict the future.

It’s believed that the Vikings of medieval Northern Europe, or Berserkers, may have also used Amanita to enhance their fearlessness and power in battle. A 1918 historical paper at the Royal Scientific Society in Upsala reveals a similar scenario for Swedish soldiers of the Värmland Regiment “ who were seized by a raging madness, foaming at the mouth. On inquiry it was learned that the soldiers had eaten off the fly amanita, to whip up their courage to a fighting pitch.”

Fly agaric was the recreational drug of choice in several parts of Europe before vodka was introduced, and holds a long history of being featured in cultural art and literature. Because muscimol-induced hallucinations often include the distortion of time, space and size, Amanita muscaria is thought to be the mushroom that Alice eats to make her shrink and grow throughout Wonderland.

Unlike other mushrooms, Amanita muscaria cannot be farmed or cultivated. It can only be harvested from the wild, where it has a mycorrhizal relationship with tree roots, which further adds to its mystique and rarity.

The Legal Status of Amanita Muscaria

Amanita muscaria's legality has varied over time and across different countries.

In the US, Amanita muscaria is not listed as a controlled substance or considered federally illegal, however some states, like Louisiana, have made it illegal to buy, sell, or possess it with intent to consume.

Internationally, fly agarics’ legal status is highly varied and often confusing. In the United Kingdom, it is not considered an illegal substance, but it is illegal to prepare or sell the mushroom for human consumption. In Australia and New Zealand, the mushroom is considered a controlled substance and is illegal to buy, sell, or consume. In Canada, it’s not specifically listed as illegal, but its psychoactive compounds are controlled, so while the mushroom itself might not be illegal to own, using it for its psychoactive effects could be.

The Effects of Amanita

Fans of Amanita muscaria often praise it for its healing benefits and ability to provide relief from anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. Some believe that it can enhance creativity and help people connect with nature and their spirituality. When microdosed, the mushroom may induce a state of relaxation and euphoria.

However, even among amanita advocates, it’s considered a very powerful substance with many potential risks. Fly agarics in general are known for unpredictable clinical effects, depending upon each person’s unique bio-individuality. The amount of its chemical compounds can vary wildly from mushroom to mushroom, and differ depending on region, altitude, and season of growth. Spring and summer mushrooms can contain up to 10 times as much muscimol and ibotenic acid than autumn specimens. For these reasons, the FDA classifies Amanita muscaria as toxic, with adverse effects that include nausea, vomiting,

diarrhea, muscle weakness, dizziness, and confusion. In severe cases, it can lead to central nervous system depression, retrograde amnesia, seizures, unconsciousness, coma, and even death.

It’s imperative to note that misidentifying Amanita muscaria when foraging in the wild can have life-threatening consequences. Similar mushrooms, such as Amanita phalloides, or “Death Cap”, are highly toxic and quite deadly, as are many other look-alikes.

The Rise of Amanita Products

Rather than risking a harvesting mishap, many choose to purchase Amanita products from their local head shop or black market, but this should also be met with caution. A recent lab report performed by Flora Research Labs revealed one local Las Vegas vendor’s Amanita products tested positive for both psilocybin and psilocin. Chillum, a company in Florida, was shut down just last year for selling these same products. Moreover, multiple users have reported feeling “high” after consuming amanita gummies from smoke shops and failed THC drug tests after consumption.

Further evidence of adulterated Amanita gummies were confirmed after my visit to a recent trade show. I questioned vendors of Amanita products about the availability of a mushroom that can only be foraged in the wild. Some admitted that there was a negligible amount of Amanita in their products, replaced instead by unlisted ingredients like psilocybin and Delta-8 THC. Currently, it’s much too easy for companies to add clandestine substances to these products, so if you’re interested in trying Amanita, I highly recommend sourcing whole dried mushrooms, so that you can ensure purity.

Psilocybin vs. Amanita Muscaria

When comparing psychedelic mushrooms, it's essential to understand the differences between psilocybin and Amanita muscaria. Although mushrooms can induce altered states of consciousness, their psychoactive effects and safety profiles differ significantly.

Psilocybin mushrooms, or magic mushrooms, are known for their ability to induce vivid

44 Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014
>>>

hallucinations, profound emotional experiences, and a sense of connectedness with nature and the universe. Users often report personal growth and insight from psilocybin trips, resulting in positive changes to their lives.

The effects of Amanita muscaria, however, can vary widely. Users report experiencing vivid dreams, altered perceptions, and a sense of euphoria, though trips are often more unpredictable and can include negative effects like nausea, vomiting, and confusion.

That’s why, in my opinion, psilocybin is the more reliable option for those interested in exploring the world of psychedelics.

Where To Find Amanita Muscaria

Let’s say you’ve read all of the above, you’ve done a wealth of research on your own, and you’re still interested in trying Amanita for yourself. Where can you source them? Here are a few trusted resources for Amanita:

Minnesota Nice Ethnobotanicals: https://mn-nice-ethnobotanicals.com/ Amanita Muscaria Shop: https://amanitamuscariashop.com/ Shaman’s Garden: https://www.shamansgarden.com/p-27-washingtonstate-amanita-caps-grade-a.aspx

Amanita Dreamer: https://www.amanitadreamer.net

All Things Amanita on Instagram at @allthingsamanita. Another good reason to buy these as whole dried caps is that, currently, there is no way to test Amanita mushrooms for purity the way you would with most other psychedelic substances.

Amanita Muscaria Dosage

Though the dosage of Amanita muscaria can be challenging to determine, the following information should be seen as a rough guide:

Microdose: less than 1 gram of dried mushroom cap

Low dose: 2 to 3 grams of dried mushroom cap

Average dose: 5 to 10 grams of dried mushroom cap

High dose: 10 to 30 grams of dried mushroom cap

The effects of Amanita muscaria can take 2 to 3 hours to reach maximum effect, and last 6 to 8 hours, depending on dosage.

Part Time Hustlers, Part Time Humanitarians, Full Time Cannabis Lovers

Tina Ulman and Dani Baranowski are staples in the Nevada cannabis industry. They work for the industry as well as within the industry and I recently had the opportunity to sit down with them to find out what drives their passion and what new ventures they have embarked on.

STEPHANIE SHEHAN: Hey ladies, I’m curious about your backgrounds. Where did you amazing ladies come from?

DANI BARANOWSKI: After receiving two felonies for sparking a doobie in a national park in my hometown at age 18, I knew Utah couldn’t contain my zesty energy for life and I pursued careers in sales, hospitality, and tourism: from high-end consultative sales bartending, to sharing my love for the ocean internationally as a scuba diving instructor.

TINA ULMAN: I graduated from UNLV in hospitality management and was a sales and marketing executive with Wyndham Resorts for thirteen years. I developed numerous teams in five different major markets and after accomplishing all my goals with the organization, I knew I wanted to build and develop the cannabis industry in Nevada. Two of my family members and my high school boyfriend were both greatly affected by the failed “war on drugs” policies. My family members were sentenced to 30 years combined in prison for non-violent drug charges. Being a part of changing the system was never a question, I knew I wanted to do that since I was six years old.

STEPHANIE: And, what brought you to the cannabis industry?

DANI: After surviving a catastrophic category 5+ hurricane, I took the hint to change careers and saw the cannabis industry exploding. I initially wanted to start a CBD business with my sister so we devised a plan for me to get my foot in the door in Las Vegas. I had street cred (with my felonious past) and bright eyes for the opportunity to build the industry. A fellow former-Mormon-turned-cannabis-executive offered me a job and the rest is history.

TINA: I have been a consumer for 18 years and I love and respect the healing powers of the plant. I knew immediately I wanted to build my career in cannabis. Luckily my best friend of 25 years, Jenn T, owner of Cannect Hospitality attended a Woman Grow event and found out a company was hiring from someone in the buffet line. Been rolling deep ever since.

STEPHANIE: You two started the Chamber of Cannabis. Whose idea was that and how did it come to fruition?

DANI: After meeting through advocacy and spending time volunteering together, we immediately bonded over our undeniable passion for developing the space, and respecting each other’s professional talents and finding creative ways to implement those in the nonprofit world. We connected over our shared experience with failed cannabis policy affecting our lives, and we realized the importance and power of changing cannabis stigmas by building relationships with local legislators and community stakeholders. We also love working hard coupled with enjoying life.

TINA: During the pandemic businesses and people were segmented, but the industry continued to grow and we happened to be neighbors and quarantine buddies. Assemblyman Steve Yeager let us know he was ready to pass sensible cannabis policy with AB341 for consumption venue legalization, and put out a call to action for organizations to propose potential business models. We quickly realized there was not a group for leaders working in the industry who loved the plant, focused on moving commerce and justice forward, and impacting the community. On a drive through Utah I thought, “this industry needs a Chamber of Commerce…a Chamber of Cannabis!” Dani and I put our heads together and assembled a group of fellow visionaries and without fully knowing how much work it would take or how much of a difference it would make, we started a 501(c)(6) that has grown into Nevada’s largest business trade organization.

STEPHANIE: Recently, you came together and started your own company, The Grow Up Co-op. Tell me more about that.

DANI & TINA: We spend a lot of time thinking about the industry and how we can play a role in its growth. We entered the cannabis industry within months of each other and have watched it grow from <$100 million to driving revenue for the state to the tune of over $1 billion in revenue. We love the ever-evolving energy and challenge of building an industry. Working for different brands in sales and marketing we gained massive insight into what works and what doesn’t. We were always scheming fun ways that we could bring the industry and we’re able to do that successfully by building relationships with the entire community from budtenders to legislators.

Companies are experiencing new hurdles as the novelty of cannabis has shifted and the plant is becoming commoditized. We saw the need to revitalize the traditional model of one sales rep for one brand. One role often overlooked is sales enablement and effective programming. We create revenue driving ideas to help the retailer move our brands off the shelves, meanwhile nurturing relationships with our budtender friends and investing in our community through service. Brands in our co-operative win together as we resource share and collaborate for winning through our combined sales efforts, field and trade marketing, intentional events, and lastly we help brands expand into new markets - whether that be incoming to Nevada or the reverse.

With our insight on lounges, our co-operative is preparing brands for success through product development and connections for the next revolution and innovation of our industry. Categorically we touch flower, pre-rolls, vapes, extracts, tinctures, patches, cannabis cocktails, chocolates, and cannabis pouches. Our portfolio is stacked with brands positioned to win, currently in the Co-op is Matrix, Mary’s, Dixie, Voon, Pamos, and ZenCo.

48 Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014
>>>

STEPHANIE: You’ve witnessed a ton of change in the Nevada cannabis industry. What do you like best about working in cannabis?

DANI: The concept that anyone who has passion for the plant, recognizes the opportunity to create an industry as it is developing, and through hard work, can become a respected leader and direct the future of the industry. This does not exist in traditional and established industries. Cream rises to the top, and all ships can rise with the tide; our collective energy is impactful.

TINA: Providing alternative plant medicine for the mind, body, and soul to people who might not have found it if it wasn't legalized. And, the opportunity to create history and build an inclusive and thriving industry with some pretty phenomenal people.

STEPHANIE: What things do you think we need to work on within the industry as a whole?

DANI: Coming together to resource share and empower the direction of the industry. There is a piece of the pie for everyone, and if we all put our pieces together, there’s more for all of us to eat.

TINA: Improving regulation and legislation that will support a viable, sustainable, and inclusive industry.

STEPHANIE: Anything new you have coming up in the future?

DANI: Through our work and good nature we have been able to amass a network of other hustlers and stoned professionals across the country and world. We are creating opportunities for ourselves and our friends to offer our talents and expertise to the cannabis industry, worldwide. We have some exciting partnerships we can’t wait to announce!

Magic Mushroom Whippit Lemon Tek

*Author’s Disclaimer: We do not encourage illegal activity, nor the sale or trade of illegal substances. Check with and adhere to your local laws. We do not claim plant medicine to be a substitute for professional medical care. Always consult with your doctor. The goal of this article is to promote safety and education.

Last month, we taught you how to perform your first magic mushroom or psilocybin mushroom extraction using the Lemon Tek method! This month, we’re taking Lemon Tek extraction to the next level with a variation I invented called the Whippit Lemon Tek.

What is Whippit Lemon Tek?

Whippit Lemon Tek is my favorite extraction tek (tek is short for technique). It utilizes a whippit (or whipping siphon) and whip cream chargers. It combines fan-favorite Lemon Tek with the most effective way to extract inexpensively at home: nitrous oxide.

The Story Behind Whippit Lemon Tek

I created this tek while on the phone with popular YouTube mycologist and friend, Willy Myco. I was peppering him with questions on citric acid’s effect on psilocybin extraction and other nerdy mycology stuff. During our convo, I was rolling a lemon around in my hand, using it like a squeezy stress ball, and in the other hand, I was twirling around a small, nitrous oxide charger. I tend to get fidgety on calls!

In the middle of Willy’s explanation, I interrupted him.

“WILLY!

OMG. WHAT IF…..”

The moment we hung up, I immediately brought out 2 pounds of lemons, grabbed a fistful of N2O chargers and my whippit.

What Are The Benefits Of Whippit Lemon Tek?

Better extraction

Faster extraction

Cold extraction

You can also use high proof ethanol (like 190 proof Everclear) for an alcohol extraction, or hot or cold water for a water extraction. In this recipe, we are using lemon juice.

You can also use this tek for cannabis (use 190 proof Everclear)

What is a Whippit?

Whippit is a slang term for “whipping siphon,” an inexpensive device that turns heavy cream into luscious, fluffy whipped cream, using small, disposable nitrous oxide chargers. On Amazon, you can find a whipping siphon for around $35, and a box of 100 chargers for less than $1 each. Recreational users use the whippit to inhale the nitrous for a short psychedelic experience. But, don’t try that at home, kids…it kills brain cells.

What Role Does Nitrous Oxide Play In Whippit Lemon Tek?

In addition to making the best whipped cream you’ve ever had, a whipping siphon is also used to infuse the flavors, aromas, and terpenes of a solid food into a liquid. For example, adding fresh jalapeno and vodka into a whipping siphon and charging the device with nitrous oxide will infuse the vodka with the flavors and spiciness of the pepper, creating jalapeno-infused vodka.

Having a background in culinary arts, I thought, “If whipping siphons can work as an extraction tool in the culinary world, why not mycology extraction too?”

With the mushroom and lemon juice mixture under pressure, the N2O helps the liquid pass more freely through the cell walls, allowing the lemon tek to more efficiently penetrate the fungi structure and convert the now exposed psilocybin to psilocin. When the gas is purged from the whipping siphon, it rapidly lowers the pressure inside the vessel, causing the psilo-infused liquid to rapidly evacuate from the mushroom fruit bodies.

Simply put, the pressurized vessel and N2O provides a more effective, more efficient extraction, as more citric acid will co-mingle with the alkaloids in the mushrooms. The poured-off liquid is your finished product: Whippit Lemon Tek.

How To Make Whippit Lemon Tek

This recipe will make 1/2 cup of lemon tek, with 4 grams of magic mushrooms (1 ounce of Whippit Lemon Tek will contain 1 gram of magic mushroom). In general, Lemon Tek creates a more potent, but shorter duration trip, and the onset is much quicker, usually 20 minutes.

Microdose: Pour the Whippit Lemon Tek into a clean 1 ounce glass dropper bottle. 1 ml dropperful = 300mg dose. A typical microdose is 100mg-300mg.

What You’ll Need:

4 grams dried whole magic mushrooms of your choice 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 2-3 lemons) Whippit/Whipping Siphon)

2 small, disposable N2O chargers (whipped cream chargers - make sure they are not “soda chargers”) mesh strainer

Instructions:

Break up the whole mushrooms with your fingers, a chef’s knife or mortar and pestle, to fit all the mushrooms into the whippit siphon. You can grind in a coffee grinder or food processor, but it may be difficult to strain out later. Add lemon juice into the whippit siphon. The juice should cover all of the mushrooms. Let sit for 5 minutes.

Follow manufacturer’s instructions to charge with the first N2O charger. Shake gently 3 times. Charge whippit with second N2O charger. Shake gently 3 times. Let sit for an additional 10 minutes.

Keep the whippit upright, and release the pressure (do not hold upside down). Open the whippit, and pour out the lemon juice mixture into a glass fitted with a strainer to catch the spent mushrooms. Use a spoon to press any remaining juice from the mushrooms and gently squeeze the solids to get all of your extraction.

JUNE HOROSCOPES

ARIES (MARCH 20 – APRIL 19)

The full moon in Sagittarius on the 3rd and the heat of summer has you feeling restless. You lose interest in the mundane. Although you’ll have plenty of imagination and originality this month, you may feel trapped by your routine. Work seems to drag on and it feels like there are a lot of unfinished projects. It’s a great idea to take a vacay to hold you over until the holidays. A tasty concentrate like the Banana MAC Live Resin Diamonds by Stiiizy will help you stay lifted and feel better. Lean on outings with friends to keep your stress at bay and cheer you up. You would also find joy revisiting a hobby that you haven’t practiced in a while. As long as you find things to keep life interesting and stay busy, you’ll get through it without being too stressed or grumpy.

TAURUS (APRIL 19 – MAY 20)

This month may feel like a struggle, but you’ve got the determination to get through it. Don’t be surprised if you are caught with a negative attitude. The Zelly’s Gift by Green Life Productions is the perfect pick me up. You’re feeling a bit bummed and you may notice old blockages to your happiness arising. Pay attention to these repetitive mental traps. Instead of letting it irritate you, it’s time to let things go, change your mindset, and look at life through a new lens without old baggage weighing you down. Stay grateful and focus on yourself as you may be prone to jealousy if you are distracted by others flexing on the gram.

GEMINI (MAY 20 – JUNE 20)

This is your month to shine Gemini! Your mind is sharp and you’re feeling entertaining, especially as Mercury moves into Gemini on the 11th. Your communication skills are verbal gold and will bring you a lot of success and admiration. Paired with an enhanced ease and desire to learn new things, it’s an ideal time to ask for a raise or what you want from something. Everyone will enjoy your witty banter and your superiors will be tuned into what you have to say. The new moon in Gemini on the 17th provides strong energy for reflecting on how these skills can be used to your advantage to start fresh with any new goals you might have for the upcoming year. Celebrate your wins and the rest of your season with some bomb Wedding Mintz Infused Paperillos by Packwoods.

CANCER (JUNE 20 – JULY 22)

Embrace the love this month Cancer. You are more confident and attractive than usual, receiving lots of positive attention. This is an opportunity to establish new relationships or become extra caring

and tender in already established ones. You’re really feeling yourself which makes it easier to go outside of your comfort zone and try new things. It’s best to lay low at work and enjoy sharing your playful, caring nature elsewhere since it’s likely you could be overlooked for your contributions or taken advantage of. Be cautious of unpredictable emotions, just be sure to put yourself out there when you’re up for it! A delicious, sultry chocolate bar will keep you feeling good, we recommend the Black Cherry 1:1 Bar by Incredibles.

LEO (JULY 22 – AUGUST 22)

Passion fills your interactions this month. Whether infuriating or invigorating, you’ll have strong emotional outbursts. Thanks to Mars in Leo and the full moon in Sagittarius on the 3rd, you’re fired up! It will be hard to stay calm at times and this may cause frequent quarrels. Try not to take things too personally and embrace flexibility as you can be quite stubborn at times. A couple puffs of Verano’s GMO Rootbeer Live Resin Sugar will help you stay above the drama. On the flip side, you’ll have an abundance of energy and stamina that would be wisely directed towards sports and hobbies. It’s also a great time to learn something new. You will want to stay busy with activities to avoid feeling restless.

VIRGO (AUG 22 – SEPT 22)

Give yourself a break this month Virgo. You’re feeling stagnant and being hard on yourself won’t make anything better. You could be feeling like you’re not progressing which causes some depression and negativity. This could bleed into your relationships and work, making people want to distance themselves from you. Although you try your best to snap out of it, you may not be able to. Just know it’s a phase and working through this negative outlook can be considered its own form of progress. Don’t take your mental restlessness out on others. A feel good strain like the Orange Push Pop by Virtue should help you work through things. Spend time in nature to reconnect with your less critical self.

LIBRA (SEP 22 – OCT 23)

You need a lot of reassurance this month and may deal with a lot of anxiety. Don’t be afraid to ask for words of affirmation or a warm embrace from friends and loved ones. You’re feeling uncertain and this nervousness causes difficulty concentrating. Time management may not come as easily to you as it has in the past. It’s ok if you don’t get everything done on time. Things you’ve been putting off are causing stress that make you seem emotionally unbalanced. Keep a chill disposable in your pocket like the Juicy Mama by CAMP in case you feel a panic attack coming on. Try not to be too needy of your support team without showing appreciation. They’ll help you get through it.

SCORPIO (OCT 23 – NOV 21)

Overall, you’ll be very confident and self assured with lots of mental and physical energy. You will feel deeply spiritually connected and it’s an ideal time to study a new practice or enroll in a workshop. Be cautious with your reactions as you will have very strong emotions this month, Scorpio. Try not to let them influence everything around you as you may find yourself taking every little thing personally. A pack of Alien OG pre rolls by Deep Roots Harvest will help you reflect before you react. Focus on the little things that bring you joy everyday to avoid getting overwhelmed on an emotional roller coaster. Spending time in nature camping and stargazing would be a healing way to keep yourself in check.

SAGITTARIUS (NOV 21 – DEC 21)

It’s a great time to start fresh and let the past go especially with the Sagittarius full moon on the 3rd. Use this energy to sort through any mental or physical clutter preventing you from moving forward. There may even be a special person that shows up in your life for a specific purpose if you make space for them. This could be someone you will look up to or want to learn from. Although you are feeling hyped up from all the fiery energy in the air, it’s important that you don’t overexert yourself. We love the Grand Daddy Grape infused drink by Canna Punch to take a time out. Balance play and rest to avoid any future burn out.

CAPRICORN (DEC 21 – JAN 19)

You will be very fortunate this month, especially with making new connections that may even lead you to your soulmate. You may be craving a long term relationship or feel especially connected to your current partner. You are on your game with flirty banter that comes with ease and an impressive confidence that attracts people you never thought would look your way. Alternatively, if you have a serious relationship or a family, you’ll find yourself in a surprisingly helpful and supportive mood that draws your loved ones to you. It would be a great time to reconnect with old friends that you haven’t had time for. Share a pack of Reina Gushlatti .5g prerolls while you catch up. Everyone will find you naturally impressive so use it to your advantage!

AQUARIUS (JAN 19 – FEB 18)

Enjoy the carefree feeling of summer. You are spontaneous and able to flow in the present moment. Life feels invigorating and you’ll enjoy a lot of socializing. Let the events come to you, the less you plan the more you’ll get out of it. A fun and uplifting strain like the Strawberries & Cream by Circle

S Farms will help you follow your intuition. It feels like you bring the party as others are easily captivated by your snarky humor and sex appeal. It will be very easy for you to get anything you want but don’t misuse your power. It can be unfair to others and you may hurt some people in the process. Definitely let loose but consider everyone else’s feelings if things feel too easy.

PISCES (FEB 18 – MAR 20)

Go with the flow this month and you won’t have any problems. You’re really good at doing what you feel at any given moment so just follow your impulses. You may experience some big fateful transitions this month, the stars predict a lot of change for you which could be for the better or worse but will change your life forever. It might be your career or a surprising opportunity presented by someone that you know. Take it as it comes, tell it like it is, and things will come easy to you. Enjoy this increased confidence and don’t hold yourself back! We recommend The Grower Circle’s S’mores Flight Bites to help you ride the wave.

WEED RULES By: Jay Wexler

We all want to celebrate weed being legal, and we should. But even though we’ve made it this far, we still have hills to climb. The fact that the federal government has yet to lower it on the scheduled drug list means that our celebration could come to an end if the wrong administration is in charge. Even those states that have legalized the herb have monstrous obstructions to get past. We are at a point in cannabis history that it’s necessary to pay close attention to the movement and stay involved. We’ve made it this far- don’t let them push us back and take it all away.

Jay Wexler is here to help us keep the movement alive and guide us to a better…. High. He’s here to help us blaze the way to a just and joyful marijuana policy for all. Jay is currently a Professor of Law at Boston University and in a former life, he was the law clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the United States Supreme Court. Jay has authored six books, including Our Non-Christian Nation and The Odd Clauses. But some of you might recognize him from the documentary Hail Satan. Did I mention Jay is a constitution and environmental lawyer? Yah, Jay Wexler is one of the good guys and it goes without saying he knows his shit. A true thought leader we should all be listening to. Plus, he’s a funny as hell guy, and it comes out in his writing.

Weed Rules starts by taking you on a guided tour of cannabis prohibition. It hasn’t been easy to get to where some of us are, with the easy access to our favorite stains a short distance away. Jay points out how some people still perceive cannabis, and he also points out how those same people should try to evolve their perception. In chapter 3, ‘Making a Marketplace’, Jay brings up the issue that most states with cannabis regulation have limiting licenses. He points out that this has created fear. One that we can see happening before our eyes, where Big Corporate Cannabis will come in and dominate and monopolize the industry. Unfortunately, this problem is growing. If we don’t deal with it, we’ll end up with the same low potency, low benefit, crappy weed products produced by two major companies. Sound familiar?

In part 2 of the book, Jay guides us away from grudging tolerance and into careful exuberance. We hear about the restrictions put on marketing, advertising, and promoting your cannabis business and why these restrictions are ridiculous. Even though cannabis is legal, our representatives, who we elect, aren’t going to make it easy for us. Even though we the people voted for it, they really don’t want to see the industry progressing. Many of our representatives still think cannabis is worse than alcohol, and punish the industry for fear that it will corrupt the children and offend the fundamentalists. Now remember when I said Jay Wexler is a constitutional lawyer, he points out

in the book that by restricting how a company promotes their product for sale is directly going against the first amendment, and he believes it won’t be long before a cannabis company sues their state.

In chapter 5, Jay focuses on cannabis use and your job. The chapter begins with people who had their career ruined because they had cannabis in their system. A handful of examples, which by no means are isolated incidents. Here, he covers employment law and if a person should be fired, or not hired, if they are a cannabis user. Once again, Jay gives us examples, this time of cannabis users, both medical use and recreational, winning their cases, and others losing. Unfortunately, recreational users lose most cases. All because of drug testing and companies that require them.

In chapter 6, the issue of where to smoke is covered. An issue that we here in Vegas might soon move past, as the cannabis lounges begin to open up. Again, with limited licensing, will these be accessible in your district and will they too, end up being monopolized? We’re also reminded that in legalized states that don’t have a place to consume, many are still forced to smoke out by the dumpsters.

Jay also goes over how, even in states that have legalized, in some of those states’ cities, you can’t get a license for a cannabis business. It seems our elected officials don’t want what the people want. For those cannabis users in the cities without dispensaries or delivery services, a long drive to the nearest cannabis friendly town must be made. Once again, Jay gives us a schooling on the constitutional relationship between state and cities.

So what’s the conclusion? In the final chapter, Jay rolls it all out. He has a list of ten criteria, and although the list might not yet be complete, as the industry continues to evolve, it’s a great place to start.

Weed Rules is a handbook for continuing the progression of cannabis policies and ways we can create a better and even more enjoyable cannabis experience. I highly suggest you spark up and kick back with a copy of your own. This book is positively worth Reading Lit!

Food Spotlight NORTHERN ENVY

Northern Envy began as a food truck in the Reno/Sparks area in 2021. Owner Cory White takes great pride in his food truck and restaurant and having a staff family. Growing up in the California Bay Area and being surrounded by family, chefs and bakers alike, Cory has been inspired by food from all corners of his past and present, but it’s his customer service standards that drives him to provide excellent customer service. Northern Envy is the outlet for his creativity and he wanted to create a product that is made for the foodie. He looked at the market and saw that many food trucks and eateries serve a niche and he wanted to fill the gaps and serve the people who enjoy fresh, quality food. You can’t describe Northern Envy's food type just with a name. With a strong sense of gratitude, they have been successful from the beginning.

Northern Envy has partnered with a diverse selection of Northern Nevada cannabis dispensaries such as Three Nations, The Source, Jade Midtown and Rise Spanish Springs over the short time they’ve been around, primarily because they serve food that cannabis consumers want. That is food that not only sounds delicious, and looks amazing, but also satisfies the spirit when they’re using cannabis. Chef Cory really enjoys flower from Kynd Cannabis Co. and prefers flower over any other ways of consuming. His favorite terpene is terpinolene.

In early 2023, they partnered with The Stick Sports Lounge in Downtown Reno; the only sports bar in the area. They operate the kitchen there and call it their home. The welcoming they’ve gotten from the owners, staff and community has truly been humbling. They’ve

created a menu with the same fundamentals they began with which includes the same diverse selection of items. The crew also enjoys attending “Food Truck Fridays”. Made to order, all menu items are the same quality, designed for the foodies at heart. They offer food specials on select days of the week: Salad Mondays, Taco Tuesdays, Wing Wednesdays, Steak Thursdays and on Sundays, they serve Brunch and Burgers. The full menu includes an array of smash burgers, tacos, salads, pastas and steaks. All items on the menu are made from scratch with fresh ingredients and are all made with love.

Cooking with Cannabushi

>>> An Infusion Series with chef chris rodarte

What’s up all you Stoner’s and Stonette’s! I’m back again with another infused food recipe for your tastebuds. This might look like a complicated dish but believe it or not, it’s as easy as it looks! Especially if you have to cook for a group of hungry Stoner’s. Plus, it’s absolutely delicious! I just had the privilege of doing sushi at a recent WeedTV event in town, met some really great people and turned the countertop into artwork! (Check out my IG for clips and be on the lookout for my new channel on WeedTV called “Cooking With CannaBushi’).

Let’s get to it!

Ingredients:

Stoner Skillet

12 pack of large eggs

¼ cup of milk (regular, skim, almond or oat)

1 pack of bacon (turkey or regular)

1 pack of mixed cheese

1 container of feta cheese

½ bunch of green onions

2 tomatoes (diced)

1 pack of brussel sprouts

½ stick of cannabutter

1 oz. infused coconut oil

INSTRUCTIONS:

Make sure all your ingredients are ready. Grab a big bowl and crack your eggs into it. Pour your choice of milk as well with some salt and pepper. Take a whisk and stir until mixed thoroughly.

Slice your green onions into thin “O’s” and save for later. Dice up your tomates. Cook your bacon how you like it- just don’t keep the excess oils from it. I used turkey bacon for my recipe but you can totally use what meat you would like. After it’s cooked, chop up your bacon into chunky ‘bits’ and save for later.

Hopefully you have a shallow and wide iron skillet but if you don’t, any pan should do that’s oven safe. I used a paella pan but if you feel more comfortable, use the stove top and just cook on a low/medium heat. Turn your oven to 200 degrees F. Let that preheat for about 15 minutes or until it reaches temp. Then start by putting just about half of your CannaButter into the pan and coat it with the butter.

Sprinkle a little salt and pepper onto your pan then pour your egg mixture into it. Make sure to cover all bottom edges of your pan. Cook for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes you should see the eggs have almost cooked to a halfway point. Add your chopped tomatoes, then your mixed cheeses, and your bacon. Add the last of your cannabutter. Cook for 10 more minutes.

At this point, everything should be fully cooked so let’s take it out and place it on the counter. Start adding a little extra mixed cheese, because cheese is gooood! Break up and sprinkle your feta cheese, then your sliced green onions. Make sure you cover your eggs well so everyone gets a good bite. Drizzle your infused coconut oil over everything and place a centerpiece of your brussel sprouts.

There you have it! You just made a delicious and absolutely gorgeous infused meal! I hope you guys enjoyed this recipe as I have enjoyed eating it myself!
