Happy Valentine's Day! This month, our cover feature examines the true account of my husband, and our publisher Bill Shehan’s alien encounter. Since 2017, he has travelled monthly to Northern Nevada to deliver our other publication. A recent trip however took a bizarre turn as Bill witnessed an unidentified flying object which appeared to be some sort of an alien aircraft. Check out our in-depth interview and let us know what you think. Also this month, in celebration of Valentine’s Day, we had the chance to sit down with a trio of women in the sex industry to hear their views on utilizing cannabis in adult situations. And, Tony Robertson, The+Source’s Community Outreach Coordinator offers his tips for using cannabis to enhance romantic interactions. He also mentions some of the best products for Valentine’s Day which are available in our local dispensaries. Be sure to check out our Gift Guide which features some amazing products available to make your holiday even better. If you are attending the CHAMPS show this month, make sure you stop by our booth to grab any back issues you may have missed. Coming up in April, for the second year is the Las Vegas Cannabis Awards. The event this year, in partnership with Kushstock will be an all day event. There are many local businesses nominated for awards including Vegas Cannabis Magazine. >>> Was Bill Shehan ABDUCTED BY ALIENS?

ill Shehan is the co-founder, publisher, and a writer for the award winning Vegas Cannabis and Tahoe Cannabis Magazines. Well known in the cannabis industry and Nevada cannabis scene, Bill is two people in one. His heart is a clumsy hero, and his brain is a dark comedian. But one thing is for sure, Bill is all wild west and a fixture here in Las Vegas. Bill’s presence in the room is like having a Viking who is about to go berserk coming at you. There’s one thing everyone can say about Wild Bill- he’s never left speechless or afraid.

actually looking at a UFO video. It looks exactly like a fuzzy, unexplainable video that I would see on YouTube, and one, as a skeptic, I would believe.

Up until the day after his UFO encounter, I was saying the same. But after he showed me his videos and frantically told me his experience, the wild look in Bill’s eyes turned to fear.

“Most people I’ve interviewed do NOT report their sightings to anybody, so the numbers we see at MUFON [Mutual UFO Network] & NUFORC [National UFO Reporting Center] are just the tip of the iceberg and vastly understate the actual number of sightings. I’ve also noticed that people are less likely to report their encounter if it is exceedingly strange (ie: involving a landing or humanoids or an abduction.” Dennett explains.

Although Nevada is known for Area 51 and more recently, the 2019 Storm Area 51 event, residents of Nevada have been reporting UFOs since the massive super-wave of UFO activity starting in 1947. Even Native Americans have stories of the star people and UFOs throughout our skies. When Bill first tried to tell me about what he experienced, he fumbled through the story, bouncing from recalling the memory to describing what he was seeing, at the same time physically showing signs of freaking out. Sometimes even unable to finish a sentence or speak, Bill scrolled through his phone photos and videos to show me what he recorded while he was driving north to deliver Vegas Cannabis magazines. As he looks for a few of the videos he wants to show me, I’m wondering how stoned Bill was, knowing that will be the first question everyone will ask. But this whole time, I notice an obvious panic and actual fear in Bill’s body language, voice and face. Just glancing the first video, the lights look like street lights, or building lights, or car lights, as Bill’s van whips by going 70 MPH as he drove along the freeway through some city. THERE ARE A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF CASES INVOLVING UFOS THAT PACE CARS ALONG THE DESERT HIGHWAY As I begin to think Bill may be losing his mind, he hands me his phone, “This is the one.” The video recording plays and out in the distance, there is something that looks oval in shape, hovering, with lights around it, and a beam of light is coming from it and hitting the earth. As the video plays in slow motion, I see what looks like a UFO beaming something up, or down, from or to the desert. I’m

I tell Bill we need to go back up, but he says he never wants to go that way at night again. I spoke with author, paranormal researcher and UFO expect Preston Dennett about Bill’s abduction to find out if his reaction was common.

As the weeks go by Bill is obsessed with the videos, going through them shot by shot and mentally disturbed by the whole experience. Finally, he agrees to sit down for an interview. Shwa: Alright Bill, let’s start from the beginning, what was the date and time? Bill: November 10, [2019] approximately 11:02 PM I was talking to my wife on the phone and I see this light in the sky. It looked like a star at first, then it looked like a planet, it was getting brighter a little bit at a time. I was like, ‘What planet is that?’, and then it got even brighter and it was undoubtedly coming towards me. I told my wife ‘I gotta go, I’m going to film this’, but she thought I just hung up the phone because for some reason my phone turned black before I touched it again. It came back on after what felt like two minutes later. My wife thought it took me an hour or so to call her back [but to me] it felt like I was away from her phone call for what I thought was about 10-15 minutes tops. I couldn’t understand why she was mad at me, but I think I lost a half hour in there somewhere. Which doesn’t make sense because I was driving. Shwa:: Where were you coming from? Bill: I was just leaving Beatty going north on 95 and I looked out my driver’s side window toward California. I had some stops up north to deliver magazines. Shwa:: You drive this trip every month, right?

VEGASCANNABISMAG.COM

\\ VEGAS CANNABIS

THE LATEST

Bill: Yah, and now I won’t drive it at night. I used to go in the middle of the night when there was no traffic. Shwa:: So the first thing you saw...? Bill: I saw a star, or a planet… a bright light, and it was a full moon. The light was so huge, I thought it was coming down, I thought it was a meteor, it kept getting brighter as it was coming towards me. Then the light went off, and that’s when my phone went off, my dash started flickering, it had weird like...flashes of light going through my dash. My phone turned on and it seemed like two minutes…Then I start taking my video of the lights out in the distance. That’s when Bill stuck his arm out the window and started videorecording the UFO lights out in the western horizon. The video that he had shown me a few weeks earlier. Shwa: Did you stop? Bill: No! Shwa: What time did you get home? Bill: That’s the weird thing, around 1 AM. I was so tired, I could barely stay awake while I was driving. So I pulled over, rolled a joint and I didn’t even smoke it. I was going to take it in the back [of the van] where I have my hammock, and chill. I didn’t make it to

the back. I fell asleep in an upright sitting position. Shwa: When you woke up, did you watch the videos? Bill: Yeah, yeah. Shwa: So was that your first time going through the video? Bill: Yeah, and that’s when I saw the videos I took and videos that I don’t remember taking. While examining the videos in detail, Bill discovered random videos and screenshots that he does not remember taking. Bill’s eyes wander… Bill: When the bright light came back on in the desert and shot a beam to the ground, that’s when I tried to get a better angle of the video. That’s when I got the video of the UFO 200 yards or so away, beaming shit up from the ground. That’s the video that when you see shot-by-shot, it is almost undeniable that what you are looking at is a UFO with a beam coming from it. Shwa: And you said you don’t want to go back? Bill: I definitely don’t want to go back at night. When I have to go back and pass out magazines I will just go in the day time. After our interview, it was late afternoon. I was able to convince

THE LATEST Bill to make the drive up past Beatty. Up to where he had his encounter and possible abduction. By the time we pass through Beatty, the sun had set and a full moon was rising up from the east. Just outside of Bonnie Claire, “This is the spot. Over there.” Bill points to a spot out in the open valley lit up white by moonlight reflecting off the lithium that covers the topsoil. “That’s where I saw it. Some UFO was beaming shit up!” It’s easy to see why a UFO would find this desolate area appealing. Not only are there plenty of hills, canyons, valleys, and mountains in the stretch that separates Nevada and California, but this chunk of land is government land. OVER 80% OF THE NEVADA LAND IS OWNED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT Those other lights in the first video Bill showed me, the ones that seemed to be shooting past him as he drives through the city... I thought of those lights as we drove through the desert in the moonlight. I didn’t see anything that would cause those lights to show up on his videos. The 95 freeway is a two-lane road with an island separating traffic going the opposite direction. Those lights don’t seem like car lights to me. And there wasn’t a big lit up city that I remember driving though... Once again, Bill immediately felt exhausted, so I took the wheel to drive back home to Las Vegas. Bill, now passed out next to me as if someone had just chloroformed him, rested peacefully. No more panic in his voice, no more fear in his eyes, just a light snore as we fly back into Clark County. If you don’t believe Bob Lazar and Area 51 then you may not believe Wild Bill and his beaming UFO, but one thing is for sureyou can add this story to the plethora of UFO stories that have occurred here in Nevada. Now will someone name a strain - Wild Bill’s Abduction?? NEVADA UFOs IN THE NEWS May 27, 1897 issue of the Nevada State Journal, titled: “An Uncanny Visitor”. The article interviews officers who for three nights, watched a peculiar phenomenon. On the third night the officers tried to capture what was to them a human shaped phosphorescent lit being. When they rushed in to grab it, it

hovered above them and then vanished. July 15, 1931 Reno Evening Gazette reports a glowing object floating through the sky and landing in the foothills. February 28, 1947 Witnesses at Lake Meade report seeing disks flying in formation. June 28, 1947 First Lieutenant Eric B. Armstrong while flying his F-51 flighter above north Lake Meade at around 10,000 feet. He reported spotting five or six white round disks in formation about 4,000 feet below his jet. They cruzed along with him for a bit then sped up, shot off at an angle and vanished. July 4, 1947 Raymond Harris was flying with a friend in his private 150 Voyager over Nevada. Both Raymond and his friend reported seeing five disks flying below them. That same day Clark County Building Inspector of Las Vegas, O.J. Morling, and his was reported seeing at least two dozen disks zooming through the sky heading northeast. Since the 1940’s airline pilots have been reporting UFOs over and around the Las Vegas area. June 24, 1950 the same brightly colored glowing object was seen by both commercial and military pilots as well as Las Vegas CCA men on the ground. PROJECT BLUE BOOK IN NEVADA The first Unidentified Blue Book Case #721 in Nevada May 7, 1950 outside Ely, an older couple and their grandson spotted a silver-white object floating above the trees. After about ten minutes it began to rise up then shot out of sight. The Second Unidentified Blue Book Case #1584 in Nevada July 24, 1952 Air Force Lieutenant Colonels John L. McGinn and John R. Barton were flying in a B-25 over Carson Sink when they reported spotting three aircraft they assumed were ours until they got closer and realized it had no tail or pilot’s canopy. It suddenly approached their aircraft before darting off out of sight. The Third Unidentified Blue Book Case #1986 in Nevada August 26, 1952 at Lathrop Wells. USAF Captain D.A. Woods reported seeing a large bright object flying overhead before vanishing into the distance. The Fourth Unidentified Blue Book Case #7650 in Nevada September 24, 1961 A geologist from BLM for the U.S. Department of Interior reported seeing two large lights in the sky. One of them produced “smoke or fumes which seemed cloudlike.” Then it proceeded to shine a 100-foot-wide beam of light straight down and then disappeared. The second light moved south then a few minutes later turned east and took off For more information on UFO sightings in Nevada read: UFOs OVER NEVADA by PRESTON DENNETT To report a UFO sighting to the National UFO Reporting Center go to: www.ufocenter.com/ reportform.html PHOTOS BY: BILL SHEHAN

>>> Cannabis

A Conversation with Tony Robertson, Community Outreach Coordinator for The+Source The+Source Dispensary recently held a cannabis and intimacy education seminar as part of its “Higher Education” initiative, where their Community Outreach Coordinator, Tony Robertson reviewed an array of cannabis intimacy products and taught attendees how to safely use them. The cannabis and intimacy class highlighted products associated with Valentine's Day, including chocolates, candies, massage oils and more. Attendees were also educated on how to safely dose and consume these products. In addition, the benefits of using cannabis as an aphrodisiac were also discussed. Following are Tony's tips for utilizing cannabis in romantic situations:

BATH PRODUCTS:

The advantage of bath products is that your skin is the largest organ on your body. When you soak in warm water, your pores open up and give you a lot of transdermal diffusion. It’s a very pleasant—maybe even sensual—whole-body feeling. The only thing to watch out for is that women will absorb more cannabinoids this way than men, so remember to check in with yourself and check in with your partner and make sure everyone’s as functional as they want to be.

CANNABIS AND ROMANCE CAN BE TRICKY:

Other than the obvious precautions of not being so medicated you can’t navigate a romantic evening, the thing we need to talk about is consent. Cannabis lowers your inhibitions. I do not recommend bringing bud and infused chocolate on a first date. Make sure that everyone is ready to take that step when sober before experimenting with non-standard headspaces.

CANNABIS FOR THE BODY AND THE MIND:

DOSING EDIBLES:

Start low, go slow. I usually tell people to try 5mg of THC, wait two hours, then try another 5—or give up and try 10 the next day. Edibles are difficult to dose because they take longer to set in.

20

In general, some strains can get your blood pumping, some can stick you to the couch. Some strains speed up your thought process (rough for people suffering from anxiety) and some strains are reliable anxiety killers. THC tells your brain to release a lot of hormones when it bonds to your receptors. Which hormones get released and to what extent and how your body does with that experience varies from person to person. Ask your favorite person at the dispensary to guide you toward something that will work for you, not just

the highest THC item on the shelf.

CBD:

CBD can be great for intimacy: It’s an anti-inflammatory and helps ease pain. Neither inflammation nor pain are sexy (except when they are) so for people who find those things getting in the way during times they should be connecting with a partner, CBD is a great option. Use CBD products if you aren’t looking for a lot of the “high” feeling that comes from THC. Even low-THC/high-CBD options will generate a lot of relief without making you non-functional. The key thing to keep in mind about all of this is: everybody is different. Please have fun, please experiment, but if St. Valentine’s Day is a high-pressure scenario with a lot of expectations for you, do your experimentation early. Make it something fun you do with your partner in the next couple weeks leading up to the big day. That way everyone will know how they’re going to feel, and it will take a lot of “unknown” pressure out of the equation.

The Connection Between Sex, Media and Cannabis Through the Eyes of a Nevada Sex Worker, a Cam Model and a Canna-Influencer

T

he oldest adages are often the most poignant, and nothing is more accurate (or historically relevant) than “sex sells”. The “world’s oldest profession”, the exchange of sex for power or money, the release of intimate inhibitions, the smoke and mirrors of media, all still apply in today’s society. As we explore the similarities between sex, humanity and the cannabis industry in a recreationally legalized state, Nevada as a backdrop provides a unique look behind the scenes of two industries with so many of the same trials, tribulations and obstacles: the sex industry and the cannabis industry.

JW: The cannabis industry can definitely relate to that! Are you a cannabis user in your personal life, and if so, what is your favorite way to consume?

MP: Yes, I like smoking bongs, joints or vaping best. JW: Are you a sativa, hybrid or indica type of person? MP: I prefer sativa during the day or before sex. Indica when I want to sleep well or be a couch potato. JW: What similarities do you find between the sex industry and the

In the name of variety and fairness, we set out to talk to the most experienced workers within various facets of the sex industry in order to find out their stance on cannabis and how it might enhance their work and their lives. For the sake of February, we also opted to add in a few juicy tidbits on how to spice up your Valentine’s Day with infused ideas from the advice of these sexperts and social media mavens. While all is not always fair in love and war, when it comes to love and cannabis, it’s a level (and legalized) playing field! An adult actress and reality TV personality who has recently moved into the canna-space as a social media influencer, Mari Possa is no novice when it comes to the art of smoke and sex:

cannabis industry?

MP: Both are seen as "rogue" industries with plenty of negative stigma attached. Ultimately, the medicinal benefits of cannabis will help it overcome much of the negativity over time, but I'm afraid there is no such hope for the sex industry. JW: Do you currently have any favorite cannabis products? MP: I love my Storz & Bickel Mighty Vaporizer JW: As an influencer, how important is it to keep a positive public image on social media?

MP: Very important. I'm sure many would find this hypocritical, but it's always been important to me even when making movies. I would never be involved in scenes that I felt were misogynistic or degrading. My scenes were about having pleasurable sex with consenting adults. Keeping it positive on social media is the only way to approach it for me. I like my drama and negativity in small doses...preferably from Housewives of New Jersey or Dallas! JW: What is your favorite thing about Las Vegas? Jennifer Walker: As an influencer in the canna-space, what do you find to be the biggest rewards? Biggest challenges?

Mari Possa: To be honest, this is my first experience in the cannaspace although I smoked on camera in many of my movies. I believe that being bilingual and promoting in both English and Spanish makes my influence all the more effective. I'm excited about working with CannaMojo and am loving promoting their products. As for the reward, it feels good anytime I can introduce someone to a product that they enjoy or find useful. Speaking of feeling good, I also got to have a lot of hot sex making sure the product worked before I would agree to promote it! Being a "pornstar" makes it challenging enough to walk the constantly shifting line of what's acceptable on any of the major social media platforms, adding cannabis to the content I post doesn't help. I literally breathe a sigh of relief every morning I wake up to find my pages still exist.

brothels (and beyond) we took some time to chat with her about being a sex worker and how cannabis supports her cause.

AL: Absolutely! I partnered up with a company called “CBD Sugar” that makes a CBD-infused lubricant which is water based, condom safe and customers are able to purchase online and have it discreetly shipped to their door. So a great option for some guests who may be uncomfortable walking into a dispensary and purchasing products. Clients who have tried the “Passion Personal Lubricant” report that sensations are a little bit more heightened because their mental anxiety isn’t clouding their experience as much; it frees the mind to be more connected to the body and receptive to those sensations.

Jennifer Walker: Do you think that cannabis hinders or enhances sexual response and arousal?

JW: Have you ever encountered a situation where cannabis has had a negative effect on someone’s sexual experience?

Alice Little: By and large, cannabis definitely enhances the experience in the sense that it makes every single sensation stand out that much more. The beauty of cannabis is that there are so many different strains and so many different ways that you can consume it that you can really experiment and try to find which method works best for you and your body. Smoking flower, edibles and even things like CBD lube are great for sex…

AL: I really haven’t. Cannabis isn’t going to stop someone from achieving erection, having an orgasm or become physically sick, whereas with alcohol, the overindulgence can not only affect your sex life but there can also be some severe medical complications to consider, as well. Alcohol poisoning is real! JW: In Nevada especially, there can be this stigma regarding alcohol

JW: In your opinion, does CBD lube work for or against the body if say, you are someone who experiences pain during sex (as example)...

AL: There’s so many different things that CBD and cannabis are able to do for your physiobiology whether it be decreasing anxiety, lowering pain, and often times the reason that people feel pain during sex is coming from an emotional place- the whole mind/body connection. When you incorporate CBD and cannabis into your experiences, it brings the whole anxiety threshold down so you’re better able to focus on the intimate connection with the other person instead of being stuck in your own head. JW: Do you find (with your work) that you encounter clients with disabilities or conditions where cannabis can be useful?

AL: At least on a weekly basis I think to myself, it’s a real shame that the legalization isn’t there on a larger scale to support that because a lot of guests come in with E.D. conditions, anxiety conditions, and the reality is that cannabis is a lovely way to be able to address some of those concerns without necessarily causing long term lasting effects like traditional medication would. You can dose appropriately and spot treat issues as needed, which is wonderful. JW: I agree, and something to consider while living in a social climate which caters to the service industry (alcohol consumption) can hinder connection and sexual performance… AL: It’s true. “Whiskey dick” isn’t just a phrase, it’s a real thing! If you think that doing three shots at the bar to calm your nerves is going to enhance your experience, you’re going to be very sadly mistaken and more often than not it’s going to affect your ability to perform!

and partying and just the accessibility to alcohol makes it a real concern for locals, tourists, travelers and anyone who’s concerned about DUI or overindulgence.

AL: For sure! To that point I should mention that I am an avid cannabis supporter, I have a medical card and I’m very open about my cannabis consumption with guests and within my personal life, as well. I’m an advocate for cannabis usage and often will openly discuss my beliefs and preferences with my guests at the Bunny Ranch. I generally suggest low dose edibles to anyone who might be interested in trying cannabis on their own terms. Edibles are a great way to become acquainted with cannabis, because the products are specifically dosed out for you, so it takes the guesswork out of how much and how often to consume. I recommend trying cannabis products on your own first, maybe at night when you don’t have anywhere else to go and you can ease into the experience (I certainly don’t suggest taking edibles and driving)... JW: Has cannabis touched your life in any other ways? AL: Yes, one of my younger cousins was one of the first cannabis refugees to Colorado when the discovery of CBD oil for seizure conditions was first really being revealed. She was severely disabled, we’re talking strapped to a wheelchair, having to wear a helmet for her own safety due to having anywhere from 50-150 seizures per day. Since her family started using CBD oil to treat her condition, she’s thrived and flourished in the most beautiful way! She is free from her mobility device, she’s running and playing…it’s really been incredible.

JW: We see and talk to a lot of people who have been touched in some way by opioid addiction and who have benefitted from making the transition to cannabis…

JW: Are there dispensaries close to the area where you live and work? AL: Absolutely! I connect with guests all of the time who are suffering AL: Yes, the closest one is within a 15-20 minute drive.

especially if they are taking heavy doses of pain medications and/or opioids, it affects their performance and sexual health. CBD and cannabis ends up being this kind of beautiful option because it does make a real difference and often it helps people get out of their own heads and achieve erection when they otherwise weren’t able to. It’s a great thing!

JW: What are some of your favorite ways to consume cannabis for a special sexual or intimate experience? AL: What you can do is use some of the CBD or cannabis-infused chocolate and a double boiler to melt it down and create a chocolate fondue. You can then get some fresh fruit, marshmallows, gummy candies, and dip into the chocolate and feed it to your partner. You can also get a paintbrush and dip it into the chocolate and use the paintbrush to paint across your partner and then use your mouth for the cleanup. Adding CBD or THC to this experience builds the effects and makes it a very pleasurable experience. Any kind of infused foods are so much fun- it’s personalized and it creates an experience for you and your partner to enjoy.

JW: Since cannabis consumption is not (yet) legal in brothels, how do you prepare your guests who are interested in using cannabis when they are coming to meet you?

AL: Any time my guests discuss CBD or THC, I do let them know that it’s not legal within the brothel space. I use these opportunities as a way to open up the conversation about, how do we change these policies? How do we make this more accessible? I actually do encourage them to reach out to the local legislators and encourage them to contact them. I enable my guests to also be advocates for this cause. I’ve always felt that the cannabis industry and the sex industry often times are sister industries in the sense that, we face a lot of stigma. We face difficulties with banking regulations, we’re legal at a state level instead of a federal level and as such, there’s a lot of parallels. When I was researching how to be a better advocate for the sex industry, a number of cannabis activists stepped forward and helped me with resources and information and now that I’ve expanded into this “Cannabis Courtesan” journey being an advocate for legalized use within the brothel space, they (cannabis activists) have been nothing but wonderful allies and supportive. This is something that I personally represent. Somebody has to be the first one to stand up and say, “hey! I think this would be a great idea!” And it’s something that would be so uniquely Nevadan, I think it’s a shame that we haven’t yet progressed forward in that direction.

JW: I love the idea also of yours being a female-lead movement for change... AL: Absolutely. Cannabis enhances the intimacy, the connection and

the area where you live?

AK: I’m from Texas. I work in Los Angeles and come to Vegas for work too, but I live in an area of Texas (Austin). They’ve decriminalized cannabis in the city (where I live) for small amounts, so they just ticket you and let you go. In some cases, they don’t even ticket you. I’ve been downtown smoking a blunt, and they just told me, “put it out”, and let me go. JW: Wow, that’s surprising to hear! Especially in Texas… AK: At the end of the day, we have a jail that’s overpopulated and they really can’t afford to put the people through the system who are caught with these minimal amounts of weed, so it’s easier to just let them go.

JW: Give us a little back story on yourself, your work and some of your experience with cannabis…

AK: I was born in Texas and moved to Atlanta for school and then went back to Texas because my family is there. I travel to Los Angeles each month for SpankChain stuff, attending events and meetings, so I’m in California all the time. I shoot content out of my house and then I travel with a bunch of women about one week each month and we shoot content together. At home I live with my brother and my husband and a bunch of pets. We had a dog who was diagnosed with cancer and we were treating her with cannabis. She was supposed to live for 3 months and ended up living for 14 months, so the cannabis definitely helped! We were using the dog drops from Select and they really helped her.

AK: We are constantly censored for things! On various platforms, it’s a constant battle to stay relevant and stay out of trouble.

JW: What are your favorite ways to consume cannabis, both in your work and in your social life?

JW: There are so many societal and social concerns within the sex industry and it’s no different than with cannabis- essentially sex and cannabis are ways to help people and enrich their lives and there’s judgment and roadblocks everywhere…

AK: All of these preconceived notions are heavy and dark and keep us down. JW: Sex is wellness as it pertains to people’s emotional, mental and even

AK: It’s funny you ask it that way because my social life is really my work. Most of my friends are sex workers and we just have cannabis in our lives, that’s just how it is. I smoke a lot of flower when I’m at the house, I prefer bongs, pipes, bubblers, etc. But I have to smoke oil when I travel because the majority of the time I’m in a hotel room or an AirBnb or some place where I can’t be conspicuous so I have to go with a vape pen. Weirdly, I find that if I go two weeks without flower and just use cannabis oil vape pens, my depression gets insane.

physical issues…

JW: Really? AK: Absolutely, there’s a lot of healing involved, for everyone. Truthfully, I’m very business focused, for sure. Even in my personal life I’ve found that being a sex worker has helped me communicate better, be more honest, I’m able to read people more easily, and some of what I do can help heal people in a way. I didn’t realize this until I was in the industry for a few years when people started requesting customs (a video just for them where they can write a script and I enact it). I was meeting people who were requesting unusual things. And they’d say, “I’ve gone years without being able to have anyone take this strange fetish and do something for me”...and sometimes fulfilling these fantasies and requests for people leads them to be able to get over traumas from their past or get over a hurdle in their lives.

AK: Yea, I found that from over the past two years of traveling and trial and error. So I have to be really careful. JW: Have you ever tried vaping flower? AK: Yea, like The Volcano? Those are pretty great, but that’s blast-off time for me. I mean, I’ve got emails to do, I need to stay focused during work hours. I used to be more regimented about cannabis, when I was in Grad school, I’d purposely not smoke until later in the day, but over time, I’ve become more into consumption throughout the day but in smaller doses. If I’m awake, I’m consuming. But I’m able to maintain. Now that I live stoned, nothing is hard, I’m used to it.

JW: In many ways there’s a social openness and freedom here that is implied and applied to sex as well as (now) cannabis. Have you ever thought about incorporating cannabis into the work that you’re doing with camming or modeling?

JW: Have you ever tried cannabis suppositories? AK: I have actually, Foria. They also have this spray that you can use for sex...do it, do it, do it, do it! (laughs) It’s great!

AK: I do! I do a lot of pot smoking videos because I just really like to smoke pot and I thought, I should monetize this somehow, and people really like it. I would go into certain cam sessions and I have had guys be like, “let’s just smoke some pot” and I’m like, nice! I always do a pot smoking video when I turn the camera on anyway because I’m going to get stoned, so I may as well. JW: Does your cannabis consumption while working enhance your work or hinder it in any way? AK: Well, it depends on how stoned I get. I mean, it can go the other way (if I overdo it) and then next thing you know you’re laying in the CBD bath trying to come back (laughs)...so it’s a balance. With me, the only thing that can happen from time to time is I go off on a tangent. I’ll be smoking and then ten minutes later I’m like, wait, this wasn’t even the point of the video…

JW: Do you have any human contact in your videos?

JW: Are you careful to not give away the secrets to your success to others? Unfortunately, sometimes with success comes stress and paranoia… AK: Here’s the thing about sex work, we share our trade secrets with each other, we support each other and we talk shop. We do all of that. It’s the only industry I’ve ever been in where women sit around and help each other. You might even find this in the cannabis industry, but, as a marginalized group, we’re so cast out. So we had to turn inward. We had to turn to one another. It really just bonded us and made us stronger. Since I’ve been in sex work and even before when I was in “pre” sex work, I felt that same support- the women were all there for each other and gave encouragement. A Safer Alternative to Opioids

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), an opioid crisis has emerged in the United States. As announced in a January 2019 press release, NIDA estimates that 130 people die due to opioid overdose from drugs such as codeine, fentanyl, and oxycodone each day. Opioids were involved in nearly 70 percent of the 70,000 drug overdose deaths in 2017. Some health oversight organizations, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, have labeled the opioid crisis an epidemic. In the midst of this epidemic, during which it is estimated that more than 80,000 people experiment with heroin in a single year, doctors and wellness professionals are seeking treatment options for both the negative symptoms of opioid addiction and also to assist those with substance abuse issues.

United States reported using prescription opioids before initiating heroin use.”

How Does CBD Help?

Many wellness practitioners have begun to integrate CBD and other cannabinoids from hemp extracts into their practices. One of them is Dr. Peter Grinspoon, a Harvard-trained physician who personally experienced opioid addiction and treats many patients who have experienced addiction issues. “As a healthcare provider [and] someone who has been addicted to opiates, I understand how utterly and completely opiates can hijack one’s brain and start, in effect, calling the shots and making the decisions,” said Grinspoon during a 2019 interview.

Dr. Dustin Sulak is a medical doctor in Maine who specializes in osteopathy and uses CBD in his clinical practice. “In the United States, nearly 50 percent of people who take opioids for more than 30 days in the first year continue to use opioids for three years or longer,” said Sulak.

Grinspoon believes that CBD and other cannabinoids from hemp are valuable tools for wellness professionals. “There is some interesting new research about CBD’s potential role in alleviating addiction to opiates, as well as to stimulants, nicotine, and alcohol,” he said.

This trend of long-term use leads to problems such as abuse, addiction, and sometimes a transition to dangerous street drugs like heroin (especially in cases where pain patients become addicted to opioids but are denied further prescriptions). According to Sulak, “Nearly 80 percent of heroin users in the

Nika Beamon, a writer in New York City, was experiencing “debilitating withdrawal symptoms” when attempting to wean off tramadol, an opioid analgesic (pain killer). After integrating a CBD tincture into her treatment regimen, Beamon described the results as “revolutionary.” “I sleep through the night, finally,

VEGASCANNABISMAG.COM

without waking up in pain. That’s a complete relief to me,” she said. More important: The CBD has allowed Beamon to no longer rely upon or consume opioids in any form. “In my experience, withdrawal symptom reduction is one of the most important functions of CBD to help opioid patients curb their dependence,” said Colleen Kibler, a state-licensed cannabis caregiver in Belgrade, Maine during an exclusive interview with Vegas Cannabis. “People who bravely choose to work toward reducing their opioid dependence often experience a number of uncomfortable side effects,” she said. Kilber explained how the majority of her patients have a need for pain management. “CBD’s anti-inflammatory component naturally reduces many types of pain for which opioids may have originally been prescribed,” she said. When queried about other ways in which CBD has been helpful to her patients who are attempting to reduce their dependence upon opioids, Kibler cited a reduction in anxiety. “Bouts of anxiety and nausea are often reported to me during the first weeks of weaning,” said Kibler. She reported that she recommends to her patients the relatively fast bioavailability delivered by microdosing full-spectrum hemp products containing CBD. Kibler considers desktop and mobile vaporizers to be good tools for such microdosing. ”Body tension and sleepless nights are regular complaints that can be addressed with hemp-derived CBD,” she said.

Research Studies

A wide range of peer-reviewed research has been conducted regarding the ability of hemp-derived cannabinoids such as CBD to assist those attempting to deal with addiction to opioids. Often, patients desire simply to decrease their consumption of these powerful pharmaceutical drugs in an effort to decrease the occurrence of negative side effects and improve overall health. Patients who suffer chronic pain, especially of a severe nature, must seek viable alternate solutions if they are to decrease or eliminate opioids from their lifestyle. A 2019 research study entitled “CBD Can Help Dampen Cravings For Opioids, Potentially Adding Weapon In Fight Against Crisis” that was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry investigated the efficacy of CBD in the treatment of heroin addiction. The study observed, “Patients treated with cannabidiol (CBD) reported lower cravings for heroin or other opioids than did patients who were either given a placebo or no treatment at all.” The researchers concluded, “As states and public health experts scramble to contain the drug epidemic, the findings could provide some hope.”

Conditioned Place Preference in Mice” that was published in the journal Planta Medica explored the ability of CBD to reduce cravings for morphine. The study concluded, “The finding that cannabidiol blocks opioid reward suggests that this compound may be useful in addiction treatment settings.” A 2015 research study entitled “Cannabidiol as an Intervention for Addictive Behaviors: A Systematic Review of the Evidence” that was published in the journal Libertas Academica investigated the ability of CBD summarized “the available preclinical and clinical data on the impact of CBD on addictive behaviors.” Reported the study’s authors, “human studies presented some preliminary evidence of a beneficial impact of CBD on tobacco dependence.” The study found CBD to possess therapeutic properties that make it helpful in the treatment of addiction disorders, including a “protective effect on stress vulnerability and neurotoxicity.” Concluded the study, “The dreadful burden of substance-use disorder worldwide, combined with the clear need for new medication in the addiction field, justifies the requirement of further studies to evaluate the potential of CBD as a new intervention for addictive behaviors.” A 2009 study entitled “Cannabidiol Inhibits Cue-induced Heroin Seeking and Normalizes Discrete Mesolimbic Neuronal Disturbances” that was published in The Journal of Neuroscience explored the effect of CBD treatment on “drug-seeking behavior.” The study found that “CBD had a protracted effect with significance evident after 24 hours and even two weeks after administration. The behavioral effects were paralleled by neurobiological alterations in the glutamatergic and endocannabinoid systems.” Concluded the researchers, “The findings highlight the unique contributions of distinct...constituents to addiction vulnerability and suggest that CBD may be a potential treatment for heroin craving and relapse.” Curt Robbins is a technical writer, instructional designer, and lecturer who has been developing science-based educational and training content for Fortune 200 enterprises for more than 30 years. A RESPONSE TO THE UNLV STUDY ON CANNABIS USE IN PREGNANCY

A recent UNLV study came out that reviewed sonogram data from nearly 450 pregnant women who self-reported daily cannabis use. In this study the physicians found an increase in placental vascular resistance in second and third trimesters, which can disrupt the flow of oxygen-rich blood through the placenta. This can potentially lead to delayed fetal growth, which could put a baby at risk for certain health problems like low birth weight and hypoglycemia. They reported marijuana consumption should be avoided in pregnancy.

For many women, this study will bring up a lot of concerns and fears. For me this study brought in a lot of questions like, how were the women consuming cannabis, were the women all eating the same diet, what were their daily stress levels, how were their relationships, what was their medical history prior to getting pregnant, did they use chemicals to clean their home? Due to the fact that the study never stated or addressed any of these factors in regards to the outcome of the fetuses health, I feel the data is inconclusive as we know stress, diet, toxin exposure and lifestyle impact a babies health greatly.

In all of my years of being a cannabis advocate and educator, I have never once seen a woman who consumed cannabis while pregnant (who didn’t use other drugs and lived a healthy and non-toxic life) have a negative experience postnatally with the health of her baby. In fact, I have thousands of testimonies from women stating how much it helped them and how their children are thriving in life. I am not saying there aren’t concerns and risks and women should go out and consume all the cannabis they want, but I do believe because of the vast difference in what the UNLV study reported verses what I and thousands of women have witnessed and experienced, more research needs to be done. Since I am a holistic health coach that works with women and not a woman who delivers babies, I wanted to sit back down with Midwife Erica Delmore, DEM, CLC to get her take on the study and see what she had to say in response to the information presented by UNLV. JANELLE JOHNGRASS: Thank you for taking time to talk with me and share your thoughts. I wanted to know what you think of the UNLV study since you are a Midwife and have clients that use cannabis during pregnancy? ERICA DELMORE: While I think this study had some validity I think they missed the boat. The last time you interviewed me I clearly stated there is no free lunch and the only thing they keep coming up with is you’re going to have a smaller baby or there is potential for concern. However, your smaller baby is probably just as healthy as that bigger baby. The mother is probably happier, more balanced, more adjusted and feeling good about herself. So as far as the study goes, I get why they did it. They

34

VEGASCANNABISMAG.COM

were compelled, they had to. But I believe they also have to make a statement like that because, unfortunately, in our society cannabis is still frowned upon. JANELLE: Do you feel that the study was controlled enough for them to form a solid opinion? ERICA: No, absolutely not. Even for the fact that we don’t know how these women were consuming and to what extent they were. Because again, as I stated in our last interview, I’m a big no on edibles, concentrates and tinctures. If a client consumes it should be flower, low THC and preferably through a water piece. I’m pretty strict about this. I would rather my clients consume a small bowl of marijuana when they are nauseous instead of popping Zofran which has its own list of complications associated with it. JANELLE: Dr. Nora Doyle who was one of the people who ran the study stated that they have other remedies that can be used for nausea, pain, mood, etc. that, in her opinion, are safer. So, are those options safer and risk free in comparison to cannabis? ERICA: I would counter that with what’s the list of ingredients? What’s in it? Take Zofran for instance, there are a lot of things in there that can cause adverse reactions or simply don’t work for every woman. Why do we need to pump a women with chemicals when we know cannabis is great for nausea relief as is ginger, peppermint and chamomile? I prefer women to go to a natural remedy if they can. I fail to understand why these chemical compounds are a better option. Women have to weigh their options and make a choice for themselves. I think more research needs to be done and on a greater scale and over a longer timeframe. JANELLE: For your clients that have hyperemesis, do you see a difference in clients that go the western medicine route and have to be put on an IV and bedrest to help maintain their nutrient levels and hydration verse those that choose to use cannabis to support those symptoms that can

\\ VEGAS CANNABIS

be debilitating with that condition in pregnancy? ERICA: I see more positive results with the women who use cannabis. Again, it’s not about THC, it’s about the other compounds in the cannabis that aid in nausea. I’ve had clients do the western medicine route and go in and get IVs on a regular basis. But it just seems to me like a constant circle. Almost like they are putting a bandaid on it and not really addressing or helping a woman thrive. Whereas I think if you can get a woman to at least tolerate some food, which is what happens when you consume cannabis, you're making headway. Hyperemesis is tough and I don’t think that they really understand it. I know a lot of times western doctors just brush it off as extensive morning sickness, but it’s not. I’m not saying all doctors, there are some amazing doctors especially in the Las Vegas Valley who take HG seriously. JANELLE: I had hyperemesis with 3 of my pregnancies and, for me, it came down to quality of life. Consuming cannabis allowed me to have an appetite. It allowed me to crave food and keep water down. In my last pregnancy, I was so sick and also had other kids, in my mind I couldn't be going to the hospital sitting there on a regular basis. But I could consume cannabis and feel relief. ERICA: Yes and then you look at the cost. Everytime you go into the ER to get an IV you’re paying thousands of dollars, which is astonishing to me and is a whole other conversation. For many women, they don’t want to do that, especially when they can go to a reputable dispensary and speak to a knowledgeable and well versed cannabis consultant and get directions to find a strain that will bring relief. You then can go home and have controlled microdosing. JANELLE: Do you wish more dispensaries had education for their budtenders in regards to information they give their customers for cannabis use in pregnancy? ERICA: Yes. Yes. Yes!!! Although budtenders can not and should not give medical advice I think they should

be educated on the pros and cons and general safety. JANELLE: You stated in our previous interview as well as today that you do see an impact in the fetal growth in regards to the size of the baby. The study also showed that there can be a decrease in placental blood flow. How does that impact the baby? What are the concerns there? ERICA: With my clients who do use cannabis I do keep a closer eye on them. I would probably encourage an additional ultrasound later in the pregnancy just to make sure everything is going okay. With anything foreign that you are taking into your body there will be a response. However, according to the World Health Organization study that was done in the late 60’s in Jamaica, yes those children were smaller but they flourished. Their IQs were higher, they were creative, they had great social skills and were successful. It was a very interesting study, and one that women should review. JANELLE: Does placenta size indicate a healthy baby? ERICA: I don’t think so. I have seen large placentas that look very unhealthy and small placentas that look great. I think a lot of it has to do with not so much whether the mother consumes cannabis, but whether she is eating well, staying hydrated, whether she has a lot of anxiety, a supportive partner, etc. All of that comes in to play for the health of a placenta. You can look at a placenta and it will tell you so much about the pregnancy. There’s a lot of different factors that go into the health of it.

JANELLE: Do you think that a woman’s nutrient intake and stress levels impact a baby in a negative way and women should be concerned about that versus having fear of a plant that is proven to aid in nausea and pain relief? ERICA: That’s a really great way to put it, yes. Absolutely. I have had clients who are in stressful relationships and when it’s time for them to give birth the babies don’t want to come out. Have we seen adverse reactions in utero for things that happen outside the uterus? Sure, babies are very tuned in to what’s going on. Again, most western doctors are probably going to read this and say, “She’s full of crap.” But I’m not. JANELLE: Studies are showing that marijuana use has doubled in the past 15 years and I want to know from your perspective, do you think that that is true or do you think more women are just being open and honest about it? ERICA: I think that more women are being honest about it. I think it’s a false number. I think women have consumed for generations and generations and now it’s more acceptable to be more vocal about it. When I was pregnant with my first baby and living in San Francisco back in the day, my midwife used to give me cannabis because I suffered from hyperemesis and I couldn’t eat. Cannabis helped me. JANELLE: The American Academy of Pediatrics says that no amount of marijuana use is safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. What is your response to that? ERICA: What else are they going to say? Seriously, what else are they going to say? They have to say that. But I would want to know how many of those pediatricians are consuming themselves. JANELLE: What would you like to see in terms of studies that are being done? What do you think is important to continue the education and research on cannabis use in pregnancy? ERICA: I think they need to follow a group

36

of women from the beginning of pregnancy through at least 6-10 years postpartum. Because then you’re really going to find out what if any adverse effects there are. JANELLE: What would you like to say for closing thoughts for women that are looking at this study and consuming or wish to be consuming and now have a sense of fear around it because of this research? ERICA: I would say definitely come to Cannabis in Motherhood, the second Tuesday of every month, hosted by Know Mommy at Motherhood Collective because then you can talk to women and midwives who have personal experience in this. Do your own research. And that’s for both sides of the fence. Also, have a care provider that you trust to talk to. If you can’t tell your care provider that you consume or want to consume cannabis that’s a red flag to me. You have to be able to be honest with your care provider. If you can’t be honest then they can’t care for you to the best of their ability. JANELLE: Being a care provider, you are a Midwife, are you currently taking new clients? ERICA: Yes I am taking clients. If anyone is interested in booking a consult with me they can email me at vegasmidwife@gmail. com or they can call me directly at 702-3243206. Dear Mary Jane, So it is almost Valentine’s day, and for the first time in forever I actually have a girlfriend! Are you excited for me? Are you sad that I will no longer be pursuing you? We haven't moved in together yet, and we seem to spend most of our time at my place. This could have something to do with her three roommates, but that is just a guess. She really, really likes marijuana. I am personally not much of a user, but I certainly don't judge her for her hobbies. The problem is that she makes my place smell like the backstage area of a Willie Nelson/Woody Harrelson reunion tour. How can I help my new girlfriend find her way to an elevated plane without making my place reek? Pungent Paulie My Dearest Paulie, Gee, it won't feel natural taking a shower without you peeking through my window. No worries, I am sure that I will manage. With regard to your concern, I can certainly appreciate that which you are going through. Back in the day, I shoved more towels under doors and lit more sticks of incense then you would likely believe. It is an interesting predicament: the only place that you can legally smoke marijuana in the state of Nevada is in your own domicile, and burning marijuana has a unique smell that is unlike anything else that I can think of. Like cigarette smoke, that shit will follow you everywhere. You are wise to seek alternative consumption methods for your girlfriend for a Valentine's gift, as it will likely curtail the awkward “you are making my whole world smell like weed” conversation. I believe the obvious first step would be to buy her some edibles. I have seen and tasted truffles infused with THC that I would consider comparable to Godiva. One thing to pay attention to is her daily level of consumption. If you find some scandalously tasty edible but it only has 5 mg of THC, she is liable to have to eat so many of them that she won't know if she is high or experiencing a sugar rush. Pro: No marijuana smell. At all. Con: Can be difficult to titrate, and people's tastes vary. Next on the spectrum of olfactory offensiveness would be vaping. While a vape pen may give off a very mild aroma of marijuana, at least in a confined space, it gives off nowhere near the aggressive note of, say, a blunt. Another option in this realm might be to purchase a table model vaporizer for dry flower, something like a Volcano or Arizer. I will not lie to you,

these devices can get a bit pricey and will emanate a slightly stronger odor than would a vape pen, but it still won't fill your place with eau de skunk. Pro: Minimal-to-limited marijuana smell. Con: Can get expensive. Finally, if she doesn't like edibles and is not interested in a vaporizer, you can always do what I did and declare one room in your house or apartment to be your Green Room. What is a Green Room, you might ask? Well, my green room is the only room in my home where I consume marijuana and marijuana-related products. You will still be creating fumes, but at least they will be confined to one area. If I'm going in for a session, I will take off any outerwear that I don't absolutely need, and leave it outside. Febreze works wonders, and never underestimate the value of scented candles. Speaking of which, I recently learned that I could purchase a candle that smells like Gwyneth Paltrow’s vagina. I don't know exactly what shame and arrogance smells like, but I will likely stick with my French Vanilla and Sandalwood. One time I did find a candle that smelled exactly like marijuana, but since that is the odor we are trying to eliminate, you can probably skip that one. Pro: Fuck it, man! Con: Secrets are for sissies. Good luck with your new girlfriend. The fact that you are willing to go to such lengths to accommodate her speaks highly of you as a guy and as a human being. You can peek through my bathroom window anytime you want!

Baby Boomer VS Millennials WHOSE DRUGS ARE BETTER?

With dispensaries popping up in every state and millennials turning away from the baby boomer way of life, it seems our nation is seeing a new day and age emerge. Millennials are seeking deeper connections, healthier lifestyles with less debt, and becoming connected to Mother Earth while the boomers are still trying to push the old Industrialized American ways. The conflict between the two generations has given birth to the trendy “GenX I’m just sitting here meme” as these new mid-lifers seem to have the advantage of choice between the two worlds. But where are we going from here? While natural plants like cannabis and mushrooms remain on the most dangerous and highly addictive Schedule I Federal drug level, heavy pharmaceuticals like Valium, Xanax, and Soma sit at a comfortable and non-

46

BY CHRISTINE WATKINS

dangerous IV level, meaning there is a low risk of addiction and death. If you have ever seen a pharmaceutical user and cannabis user under the influence at the same time, you may agree that these classifications are a tad askew, fueling further baby boomer and millennial tension.

between $150-$300 for THC based goods and we won’t even touch base on the ridiculous price of pharmaceuticals! Psychedelic mushrooms do not seem affected by this obvious greed problem, while other psychedelic drugs like DMT and ayahuasca do. So psychedelic mushrooms in 2020 it is!

Nonetheless, even being classified as the most dangerous of substances, people are beginning to turn to a more natural regimen, with the aid of plant-based medicines. Cannabis has become legal in many states, for both medical and recreational use and now it seems as if mushrooms have popped out of the dark (grower humor) and are gaining popularity. Both psychedelic and food grade mushrooms seem to be everywhere. CNN even released a story stating that psychedelics are being used to combat depression, anxiety, PTSD and a number of other issues. It has been compared to a snow globe effect. When a snow globe sits, all the pieces inside become stagnant. Once you shake the globe, everything is activated again. This has given birth to the art of micro-dosing. In the cannabis industry, we are learning more and more about the benefits of each individual compound; the same is being done with mushrooms.

The United States is experiencing some very changing times. We are at war with ourselves. War on the poor, war on women, war on guns, war on kids, it seems that debtors’ jail is a thing in this nation now so finding a low cost, trouble free way of going holistic has become nearly impossible. Mushrooms are the best current solution for that ”reset your mind experience” without breaking the bank. There are several different strains of mushrooms and just like cannabis, each one carries their own medicinal benefits but not all of them are psychedelic. Psilocybin is the most common, while strains like Lions Mane are an excellent source for memory issues while Cordyceps are used for anti-aging and energetic benefits yet neither carry a psychedelic effect.

CBD is a major player in the consumer market right now but as with every new product, the fad started out heavy and slowed down just as quick. The market became oversaturated and the price of CBD declined to almost nothing within 2 years. In January of 2018, many large companies were looking for massive amounts of isolate and paying between $6,000 to $10,000 per kilo. The price of a CBD isolate kilo in January of 2020 is now between $600 and $1000 while CBG and CBN are the big-ticket compounds. A trip to a cannabis dispensary is on average

While no one can predict the future of medicine, societal changes, and general opinion of how one should live their life, we can begin to take measures into our own hands. Becoming educated and putting an end to corporate lifestyles seems to be in the works and hopefully, there’s no stopping it. Christine Watkins is the Owner, Founder, and CEO of Medicated Nation. She is a writer, a successful entrepreneur, carries 2 advanced business degrees and is a survivor of the healthcare industry. Founding Medicated Nation in 2018, her CBD company provides broad-spectrum CBD products made with FEHO (Full Extract Hemp Oil) Her one-of-akind business model caught the attention of many and she has since collaborated with Shark Tank panel member, Kevin Harrington.

TALES FROM THE CRIP

World War III: A Playlist Music, like cannoli and chocolate chip pancakes, just makes things better. I have yet to be in a mood so foul that it wasn’t improved at least marginally by AC/DC’s “Back in Black”. Yes, a cannoli (look it up and gaze upon ecstasy) will always elevate me, while also expanding me and my impressive girth.

Martha Stewart seemed to enjoy herself, but she can probably do things with Ramen noodles that I cannot even imagine.

Therefore, I save the confections for my “some mothereffer is going to die today” tantrums; when I am that pissed, counting calories finishes a distant second behind possibly counting days in prison. I just don’t think that I’d enjoy prison very much. Martha Stewart seemed to enjoy herself, but she can probably do things with Ramen noodles that I cannot even imagine. As such, music seems to be my best bet for de-bitchifying myself without risking incarceration. To that end, I literally have 4 week’s worth of assorted music stored across multiple platforms. Hours and hours worth of music that never fails to improve my outlook on things in general. Hey, music has been weaponized and employed by the military forever! There was once an insane little dictator in Panama, named Manuel Noriega; think Saddam Hussein, but without the charm. For one reason or another, it was decided that Manny No had to go. He holed up in the Panamanian embassy, a place that US troops were forbidden to enter and refused to come out. The US Army Psychological Warfare Department showed up and went to work. Knowing that Noriega was a fan of classical music, it was decided that music found offensive by Noriega should be played at concert volume 24/7 outside of the embassy. What was the first song played? “Rock the Casbah”, by The Clash. Suffice it to say that ten days later he surrendered and proceeded to spend the rest of his life in prison. Some people just don’t know good music when they hear it, I guess.

by Do As

Clearly, music is powerful stuff. Speaking of rocking the casbah, a surprising amount of our citizenry are mentally girding their loins for an apparently-impending World War 3, sponsored Iran and other Middle-Eastern party animals. I see WW3 happening this year? No, I do not. However, being an un-molested Boy Scout taught me the value of constant readiness. such, I have taken it upon myself to create The Ultimate Wartime Playlist and share it with you, my 10 faithful readers. “You Dropped a Bomb on Me”, The Gap Band. I figured that I would begin with an easy one. Airborne explosive stuff has been a wartime favorite since the catapult.

a patient's perspective

By Peter Jay

“Fortunate Son”, Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song was popular during the Vietnam war, which was the last time that there was a draft. The song is more than 40 years old, but it tells a story that hasn’t changed much over the years: the rich get richer, and the poor collect war injuries and VA coverage denials. “Rock the Casbah”, The Clash. As mentioned above, this song proved its value during the whole Noriega affair. Not to offend anybody, but would we really be surprised if World War III originated in the Middle East? Rock that casbah, Marine! “Bulls on Parade”, Rage Against the Machine. I remember soldiers literally sprinting across Iraq during the first Gulf War, looking for Iraqi combatants; so ferocious was their progress that one group of Iraqi soldiers surrendered to a CNN news crew. “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, Alice Cooper. Have you ever noticed that, whenever some class of destruction takes place in the World, the US is the first country to send assistance? WW3 would likely change THAT right away, quick and in a hurry. “Juggalo Homies”, Insane Clown Posse. Every time I read an account of battle-tested soldiers being quizzed about why they stay and fight a war that really means nothing to them, they say the same thing: I do it for my friends, so they aren’t fighting alone. Perfect fit. “I’ll Make a Man out of You”, Donnie Osmond. OK, so I’m a “Mulan” fan. Hey, she is the only Disney Princess with a body count! I did US Army Basic Training when I was 18, and the experience grew my dopey ass up in about 2 hours. Granted, my Drill Sergeants didn’t sing, but they explained the resemblance between myself and a bag of douche for 12 weeks. I had no idea. “A Little Less Conversation”, Elvis Presley. There is a time to talk and posture, then there is a time for shit to get real. Close your mouth, open up your heart and get your gun, Troop! NOTE: these are not the actual lyrics to the song; I don’t need the Memphis Mafia out looking for me. Don’t agree with me? Holler at Peter Jay: PeterJayTrey@ gmail.com Archive: PeterJay.Weebly.com

It is so hard these days to find a quality high-CBD strain that is consistent, pleasantly potent and works well for all of the things that CBD is known for. Personally, I love a good high CBD, low THC flower, as I can be a bit of a lightweight when it comes to medicating. The beauty of this flower is that it contains less than 9% THC and 13% CBD which makes it a wonderful strain for pain, anxiety and just a touch of the cerebral high that comes with heavy limonene strains. The overall feeling is one of calm and wellness; a great strain for a subtly indica winddown. Caryophyllene eases pain with a warm cinnamon and citrus flavor profile.

I’m always a little hesitant when something becomes trendy, and like me, I’m sure you, too, have seen it all. From wheatgrass shots, to acai and glutenfree and now, CBD. Once everyone is doing it, the effect seems to get watered-down. Take CBD for instance; when I see CBD being advertised on a convenience store window I think, we’ve jumped the shark and that sh*t ain’t going to work. Now that everyone has it, who has the real goods. Then comes along HYPO CBD. Not only are they using the high-quality hemp CBD, their product is also transdermal, meaning that it is easily absorbed through the skin. EAT YOUR APHRODISIACS How do I love thee? Let me count the Strains: Great White Shark, with its rose-like terpenes, Himalayan Gold, as sweet and citrusy as is my significant other, and Strawberry Haze, a selfexplanatory moniker. Which of these bouquets do I use to infuse your Valentine’s Day meal? What would St. Valentine desire? It’s unclear. Apparently, history is a bit muddled regarding the origins of this month’s love-themed holiday. That special day we bestow flowers, candies, and kindness to the one who holds our hearts in their hands.

In ancient times, when not out conquering and pillaging, the Romans periodically took some time out to celebrate. One such celebration was observed on February 15th, the Feast of Lupercalia. Honoring Lupa the Pagan god, who existed in the form of a wolf and was connected to Faunus the god of agriculture. The Romans held this annual festival of fertility and purification, as they sowed seeds praying for rich and fertile crops. But it wasn’t just agricultural abundance they focused on. Revered for their fertility and sexual prowess, dogs and goats (guess the Romans weren’t aware of the Bonobo monkey) were sacrificed, their blood smeared on women and the skins were used to slap them.

The Romans believed doing this enhanced a woman’s fertility. Things began to get less ruckus, when amid the ever-increasing spread of Christianity and the banning of Pagan tradition, Pope Gelasius abolished that old, slap ‘em and whack ‘em, fertility practice and instead pronounced February 14th the day for a more solemn expression of love. Instead of Lupa, the Pope decided a more religious-based celebration was in order by recognizing the temple Priest and martyr Saint Valentine. This first Saint Valentine lived under the bloody rule of Emperor Claudius. A task-master at heart, Claudius insisted his military men remain unmarried and un-involved with women during their tenure in his army. He believed women and families were too distracting. Meanwhile, soft-hearted and romantic Father Valentine strongly disagreed. Believing instead, the men fared better in battle and away from home, when involved in loving relationships. So he secretly performed weddings. Alas, he was found out. Claudius had Valentine captured, arrested, beaten and thrown into jail. On February 14th, he was decapitated,

all for his beliefs in the power of love. Some stories go further, stating Valentine had left a love note for his jailer’s daughter, to whom he had grown close. Likely it was she who brought him food and water, along with a kind word on occasion. He closed the note; “Your Valentine.” Others report another Valentine, the Bishop of Terni, should be credited with the evolution of Valentine’s Day. This particular gentleman is reported to be more of a marriage counselor. With his gift for listening and communicating, troubled couples often sought out the Bishop for guidance and advice. Back then it was your local priest who served as your “go-to” therapist (along with your local midwife). As he sat down to help soothe the rough edges of marriage the couples were experiencing, Bishop Valentine began each session by giving the couple a single red rose.

He declared it a symbol and reminder of the love they once had for one another. It is said, Saint Valentine would begin by telling them how he equated the cycle of a Rose’s bloom with love. Like Father Valentine the Priest, Bishop Valentine also practiced Paganism. He was as committed to his Pagan gods as he was the idea of love and romance. Unfortunately for him, Christianity was growing like a weed and by refusing to give up his Pagan practices; the Bishop was captured, tortured and executed; on February 14th. The third supposition regarding the origin of Valentine’s Day is that February 14th is the day birds begin their mating season. While that explanation does more for “birds do it – bees do it,” it is the red rose that serves as the most consistent expression of love and romance today. But what about the food we associate with Valentine’s Day? Chocolate, strawberries, oysters, wine, basil . . . Yes, basil and lavender and artichokes. Basil is the traditional symbol of fertility. Lavender is not only a calming herb but is also considered an aphrodisiac. Artichokes? Few know consuming artichokes can be as romantic as any oyster, not to mention their nutritious attributes. We derive a lot of fiber from just one of these thistled globes, along with plenty of antioxidants. But romance?

VEGASCANNABISMAG.COM

\\ VEGAS CANNABIS

Greek mythology gives Zeus credit for creating artichokes. After he was rejected by a beautiful young woman, Zeus turned his object of desire into a thorny, difficult-to-get-to-the-heart-of, plant. No romance there. Yet, Catherine de Medici, known for her own insatiable appetite for both food and carnal knowledge, brought artichokes along with her and her staff, when she left home to marry Henry II.

She believed in and exploited the artichoke’s propensity for eliciting amorous feelings.

Later, in the 1700s when man-about-town, Casanova was engaged in living, “his own great big Italian life,” proclaimed he ingested fifty oysters for breakfast every morning. Besides being an excellent source of zinc, which is helpful in increasing sperm count, there was little in the way of science to back Casanova’s claim regarding the capabilities of oysters. That is until a study completed in 2005, discovered there were two unusual amino acids found in oysters, indicating an increase in testosterone and serotonin, in both men and women. Certainly, we all know increased testosterone levels can make us feel more amorous while increases in serotonin make us feel quite good. Indeed, aphrodisiacs are more about how they make us feel.

Consider your mood while engaged in the act of eating Valentinethemed foods.

Even better, sharing that act with someone you really like. Together, you both lift to your mouth, taking that first bite into a chocolatecovered strawberry; it’s downright titillating. Unlike our morning cup of coffee, where subsequent sips just don’t measure up to that first one, taking and observing second and third bites, as your teeth crack the chocolate coating, and the rose-red juice moistens your lips . . .Is it the oysters or the act of shucking them open, pulling the half-shells apart, exposing the succulent creature inside, then squeezing fresh lemon juice over the platter, a few Jackson Pollack splatters of hot sauce. It’s the experience; the act of doing that puts us in the mood. Artichokes, like oysters, require some effort before getting to the heart of the matter. Like an Argentinean Tango, we engage, with laser-focus, our muscles tense, our chests heaving with exertion; whether we’re peeling back, then scraping our teeth against the soft curve of the leaves, carefully removing the violet thistles, we are engaged in a unique style of the mating ritual. It’s all good and good for you. Add some cannabis to your love-food and whoosh – you and your beloved are there.

A Day in the Life of Kristina Frankian, MS Patient Founder of the Ganja Mama Club Kristina Frankians journey with cannabis began as an adolescent in her hometown of Clovis, in Fresno, California; but the plant became her medicine at the tender age of 14, after being diagnosed with migraines and mononucleosis. “They prescribed Valium, but I didn’t like it,” she continued. “A good friend sold weed and we made edibles. They weren’t that great until we learned to infuse butter. The doses were small, but it helped.” In high school Frankian was the hippie chick with weed, known to the jocks. But she was also insecure and suffered from anxiety. Aside from helping with her illness, she said that socially, cannabis helped her relax and fit in. When she was a sophomore in high school, Frankian said her stepmother was diagnosed with cancer, going through chemotherapy; and her father was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Then, in 2007, her body went numb, and an additional diagnosis of MS was added, the same disease that took her father’s life. “I was fearful of going down his path of ill health,” she said. “It

was devastating for a while, and I went through all the emotions – because there is no cure for MS.” Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disorder, causing lesions on the brain. Symptoms include blurred vision, dizziness, muscle weakness, tingling sensations, and muscle spasms. A progressive disease, symptoms worsen until the patient loses muscular control with damage to the brain and spinal cord, with eventual death from myriad complications. With no cure, a patient can be prescribed more than 20 prescription medications taken daily, becoming bedridden as the disease progresses. “I watched my dad do all the shots, take all the pills – and none of it helped. He died at 48,” she shared. “I decided not to accept the diagnosis, I wanted to do it differently.” To date, she still does not accept the diagnosis, and has kept all symptoms at bay with cannabis and a healthy diet. Helped by her mom, who found a book called Healing MS by Ann Boroch, who had healed herself after being wheelchair-bound, as is a common progression with the malady. Boroch’s focus was on candida and the toxins associated with autoimmune disorders, and strengthening the immune system – allowing the body to right itself. “I followed her guidance and started to detox with supplements, cutting yeast, wheat, dairy and sugar out of my life,” Frankian said. “She saved my life. I have no doubt without her book of knowledge I would still be sick today.” Frankian married her high school sweetheart, Marc, in 2006, and in 2007, the year of her MS diagnosis, the couple created a garden in the family basement. “My husband is a super smart guy,” she continued. “We were growing Granddaddy Purple, but it wasn’t helping – probably from the high THC. He knew I needed something on another level of healing, so he read and read, and researched other strains for me. He had learned to make bubble hash and we were already making butter, but he ended up making me tinctures from glycerin. The tinctures are still my go-to for the most relief.”

Medicating through Pregnancy

When a cannabis patient with a serious ailment becomes pregnant, their cannabis protocol is questioned. Switching to pharmaceuticals can be frightening, especially if the medications they are taking are not copasetic to pregnancy. Ironically, Frankian said she received her official medical card after she became pregnant. “I had quit smoking cannabis when I found out I was pregnant, but then had the worst anxiety for about two months, with migraines!” she explained. “The doctor wanted me to take Vicodin and Tylenol with codeine, but I wouldn’t do it.” After weighing her options and discussing with a good friend who had used cannabis during her pregnancy, with no negative side effects to mother or baby, she decided the plant would be better than the pills. “I did what was best for me and my baby,” she declared. “I smoked homegrown organic out of a Volcano – because vaporizing seemed like a healthier option. I also took the tincture, as needed, for pain. At 29, I’m happy to say, I had a very healthy pregnancy and an all-natural delivery.” Her next delivery five years later, at 34, was also natural, done at home with a water birth – medicating throughout the entire pregnancy, with no complications. “My son was delivered a healthy baby, latched on right away - and all he did was gain weight!” she said. “If I had to do it all over again with cannabis, I wouldn’t hesitate.” Frankian said both her kids know the plant and know it as medicine. “My kids know mommy has health issues, and they know that cannabis is just a plant that helps mommy heal,” she said. “They also know what CBD is and have used it. I started the Ganja Mama Club to help other mom’s with their cannabis use, and to do away with the stigma of mom’s medicating. I’m so grateful my kids are growing up in a different relationship with cannabis and hemp than I had!”

Kristina’s Daily Dose

Frankian shared that smoking alone alleviates most of the symptoms associated with MS, but the cultivars must have the right combination of compounds. The cultivars offering her the most help include, Gorilla Glue, Purple Gumbo; and Lemon Kush, known as Lemon Diesel. She also favors one of the original CBD or Hemp cultivars, Harlequin, created in Southern Humboldt by Lawrence Ringo. Lastly, cultivar, The Seattle Death, has been a long time and little known favorite, and she asks if anyone has heard of it to please get in touch.

\\ VEGAS CANNABIS

“My day begins with smoking first thing in the morning and it continues all day, everyday” she shared. “Depending on my pain level, I’ll vary my dose from flower to dabs. On a normal day I’ll smoke about an eighth of flower or more, if I’m out of concentrates. If I’m dabbing, I’ll do half to one gram of concentrate throughout the day.” Frankian said she grew up using a bong, and it’s still her delivery of choice, with the exception of using a bubbler on occasion. But her go to is her Puffco. “When I bought my first Puffco, it was literally life-changing!” she declared. “It took all the work and mess out of dabbing, without the torch – which always made me nervous. No butane refills, more from the product, no hot dabs –so much healthier and convenient, especially when I’m on the go.” If she has an event or a big day, she’ll take a preventative dose of full-spectrum CBD tincture, made by her husband. “If I’m traveling or know that it will be a busy day, I’ll take the tincture in the morning to keep inflammation in my brain down,” she said. “I’ll either take the CBD tincture or an infused coconut oil, full-spectrum capsule. I’ve also been known to do 10 to 50 milligrams of edibles, depending on how I’m feeling.” Cultivars with the right combination of beneficial compounds matter for specific disorders and symptoms. Husband, Marc, has fine-tuned their garden to meet her needs. “We have been able to keep a coveted cultivar, Sour OG Kush, as a personal cut for over a decade, with many offerings,” Marc explained. “The original cut came from an old grower in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It could be 28 years old, but at least 17, as far as I can remember.” Frankian said she feels an extreme level of gratitude for her husband’s ability to provide her with the best remedies he can find, farm, and create. “The plus side of growing is we know exactly where my medicine comes from,” she surmised. “I know how it’s grown and that it will be clean. It also requires a good amount of tinctures, concentrates and medibles for my daily dose, so growing our own is also cost effective. I’m never going back to pharmaceuticals, never liked them in the first place. I’m forever grateful for the plant, my husband and his knowledge, and my family’s understanding of what I need to keep me well and alive.” For more information on the Ganja Mama Club visit, Instagram @ganjamamaclub

3. Mix in salt and pepper. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Elevated Salad: Choose a blend of mixed greens, kale and/or zucchini noodles. Add in rice noodles, quinoa, or any protein of choice. Toss with 2-3 Tbsp of the Elevated Green Goddess Salad Dressing and any other additional fresh fruits or vegetables. Some of my favorites include radishes,

golden beets, cucumbers, slices grapes and grilled broccolini. You can also try serving the Elevated Green Goddess Dressing with fresh vegetables, adding it to any sandwich or even using it as the base for a pasta dish with grilled veggies!

BY CANNABushi Chris Hey guys. Wanted to make something kinda cool for Valentine's Day. Maybe you and your special someone can enjoy making this next recipe together. A little spice makes everything nice. Enjoy!

The Fiery Shinzō (Heart) INGREDIENTS 12oz. Ground tuna meat 2oz. Grenadine syrup 1 Avocado Nori seaweed sheets- half cut preferred 2 Cups sushi rice 1 ½ Cups Kewpie mayo or mayo of choice 6 oz GranDaddy Purp infused coconut oil Sriracha sauce 1.5 Cups sushi vinegar or CannaBushi infused vinegar 2 oz Happy Hemp Farmacy Sweeten strain CBD infused chili oil (recipe coming up) Beni Shoga, ginger and wasabi MAKING THE SUSHI RICE 1. Start by washing the rice in a bowl using a strainer. Gently use cold water to rinse or “polish” the rice. The water will turn cloudy white as the starches are being removed. Continue until the water clears up, but try not to wash a lot. Make sure to remove dirty water and drain the rice each time you wash. No more than four times. 2. After draining rice, place into a rice cooker. Add equal water to each cup of rice. Cook as directed per your device. Take cooked rice and place it into a large bowl. Cover and grab your Infused CannaBushi vinegar. 3. Take your infused CannaBushi vinegar and place enough to start coating/cutting the rice. Mix well. Make sure not to overdo it. While the rice is hot, stir your infused vinegar into the bowl of rice mixing so that the vinegar is completely covering the rice, not drowning in it. Just enough. Cover and keep to the side, making sure to mix the rice again in five minutes. 4. Lastly, grab the grenadine syrup and pour roughly ¾ oz into a bowl with two handfuls of prepared rice. Mix well and add a little more syrup until you achieve the color desired. This adds a beautiful color to the rice as well as a bit of sweetness.

INFUSED SPICY CHILI OIL 1. I used a Magical Butter Machine to infuse my oil. Decarbing my Happy Hemp Farmacy Sweeten Strain CBD flower. I decarb in the oven at 265° for 55 minutes, covered. Then place directly into the freezer for 30 minutes. It has always given the desired effect and that’s what I stick to. 2. Combine 1 cup of canola oil, ½ cup of MCT oil and ½ cup regular chili oil. Place these ingredients in the machine as well as 1 cup of dried red chilies, ¼ cup red chili pepper flakes and 1 ounce of decarbed CBD flower. 3. Using the machines preset temperature of 160° for 8 hours. Then strain out used materials. 4. This is the recipe I personally used. Be careful! A little goes a long way.

SWEET SHINZŌ (HEART) SPICY MAYO 1.Take 1 cup mayo, 2 oz Sriracha, 2oz. GranDaddy Purp infused coconut oil (microwave 5 seconds so it’s a liquid), 1 oz infused spicy chili oil, 1 oz grenadine and place into a bowl. Whisk thoroughly. Keep some mayo off to the side so you can adjust the sauce to make it a nice pink color. Spicy and sweet!! Place in a small squeeze bottle and leave in the fridge until needed. FIERY TUNA MIX 1. Grab the 12 oz of ground tuna, 1oz. GranDaddy Purp coconut oil, add 2 oz spicy mayo, 1 oz of infused chili oil, and ½ oz sriracha sauce. 2. Mix them together and you have the fiery tuna mix. Be careful it could bite! MAKING THE FIERY SHINZO 1. Grab your cutting board, makisu, and knife. 2.Place the nori onto a cutting board and make sure to have a small bowl of water ready so you can handle the rice. 3. Start by dipping your hand in the water and rub your hands together so there's a slight amount of water lightly on each. Grab a small ball of pink rice and spread evenly on the nori. Keeping the rough side up beforehand. Make sure the rice has cooled and just a slight warmth. It should be a lot stickier now. 4. Make sure to cover all edges of the nori with the pink rice and it should be evenly distributed to a ¼ inch thickness. This should be on a half sheet of nori. Flip riced nori over. 5. Place roughly 3 oz infused spicy tuna mix in the center of the riced nori sheet. Also, put your avocado parallel beside the tuna mix and Beni Shoga. 6. Pull the pink riced nori sheet to the end of the makisu and use your thumb to grab the makisu. Begin to bring it up and over to encapsulate the ingredients. 7. Make sure to have a seal created and have the seam on the cutting board. Take your hands and gently squeeze the roll so that it is shaped. Scoot the makisu to each side and gently press the ends so the ingredients are inside the roll. 8. Press the complete roll into a teardrop form while wrapped with the makisu. Take out and cut into 8 equal pieces. Flip together to make a heart shaped sushi. I hope you all enjoyed making this recipe as I did creating it for you. Reach out if you have any questions. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! A POEM BY CHEF MICHAEL RICHARDSON:

For the most part they look forward to the possibility of love, but let us look back first. Today I have the opportunity to see the evolution of my past to present. I now write to you from the dining room table that I did my homework on in high school. I’ve spent days ubering around Los Angeles. I see the bushes, now trimmed and orderly, that myself and Bobby Brown fumbled together our first joint in our cave of bushes. The spot where black market manilla envelope of Panama red made you feel like a cold war spy. Now running trails for dot coms. My home for

the last 20 years has been Las Vegas. Of my travels around the diversity of my city, represents the world we are racing toward. All the signs are blaring, Las Vegas is the arrowhead of the west, with Los Angeles and San Fran the wings of the arrowhead. Let us revel in the quiet before the storm. Then dig in, steady the boat, the big one is coming. Warp drive Mr. Sulu! The evolution of our city puts me in mind set of a special flower about to bloom. THE SILVER RED ROSE

Silver and red, a rose sits alone in the desert, the path to her a great many have trodden.

They stare and wish maybe to touch with a finger, but there’s something about her that makes them afraid to linger. Her petals are as deep red as the love she saves for them. Who can love who aren't afraid for them alone this special rose was made. Caress not pull. Nurture not drain. Yet another one walks down the path in vain. Like the dew on her petals in the first morning sun, so stream the tears all gone, all are done. Our time is now, Happy Valentines Day.
