ED ALEXANDER: I have had my medical card in Nevada since 2001, I believe that all cannabis is medicinal and because of this should be thoughtfully cultivated using organic soil and full spectrum sunlight in the most environmentally sustainable way possible . I use a variety of products to help me in my daily life. Our full spectrum, strain-specific Berry Coconut Gummies are wonderful for sleep and pain management. Our Pineapple Jalapeno sativa gummies are a great way to start your day with a nice burst of energy and clear-headed effect. I enjoy flower in both social and therapeutic applications and find that it helps with anxiety and pain management along with an overall sense of well being. I am a huge fan of topical products. Currently, I use Baskin 10:1 along with Cannabella’s Neuropathy Salve for muscle and joint pain. I am really excited to see the beverage category expand in the future. I think microdosing drinks is a great way to introduce the therapeutic qualities of cannabis.

SS: What brought you to the cannabis industry?

SoL Cannabis is a vertically integrated, one-of-a-kind facility that includes a hybrid greenhouse, and state of the art commercial kitchen and extraction lab, all of which are directly connected to their 8,000 square foot dispensary. Ed Alexander and his team grow clean medicine and the needs of the medical patients that they serve are front and center. I had a chance to speak with Ed about the Nevada cannabis industry, SoL’s commitment to patients and what improvements he would like to see made.

EA: We grow a good amount of old school, tried and true strains like Grand Daddy Purple, Blue Dream, and Jack Herer. Our demographic at SoL is mostly older cannabis consumers and they gain comfort when they recognize these strains.

SS: Nice! Strain consistency is so important. I also noticed that your concentrates and edibles are strain specific which isn’t too common in the industry.

EA: I am a fifth generation Northern Nevadan. Prior to entering the cannabis industry, I was with Western Nevada Supply for over twenty years where I oversaw a large wholesale supply house. I was the 13th legal medical cannabis patient in the state of Nevada. As a patient, prior to becoming a licensed cultivator, I grew my own cannabis for personal use and I was always very concerned with what I was putting in my body. When the opportunity presented itself, I was appointed as head of the ILAC committee which was the original group that was tasked with creating all the regulations for the medical program. After heading up that committee for about 4 years, we had the opportunity to apply for licensing which included cultivation, production and retail. Having utilized all different facets of cultivation techniques, I was set on growing 100% organic, sunlit cannabis. We lobbied the state to allow for greenhouse cultivation which, at that time, was not allowed. Once we were allowed, we began design and construction in late 2015. And, in 2018 we opened our dispensary, and were actively cultivating our cannabis and producing our edibles. A year later, my son Brandon joined our team and is now our Inventory Control Manager.

SS: How did you choose the strains that you grow?

STEPHANIE SHEHAN: Are you yourself a medical patient? Do you use cannabis medically? If so, what for? And, any specific products or strains that you prefer?

>>>

EA: Yes, everything we do post-cultivation is strain specific. We try to stay as close to the flower as possible. Our cartridges are single pass, CO2, strain specific. All of our edibles and concentrates are also strain specific. As far as oils go, the majority

EA: Yes, we are now wholesaling products throughout Nevada so readers will be able to find SoL products in both Northern Nevada and Southern Nevada dispensaries.

SS: These types of programs are needed, especially for our most vulnerable medical patients. I know up until recently, SoL products were found primarily at your dispensary. Can readers now find products throughout Nevada?

SS: How can readers follow what you are doing at SoL?

SS: It is obvious to me that you and your team are in the industry for all the right reasons. How are medical cannabis patients uniquely accommodated at ES:SoL?

I believe that as consumers become more educated, they are looking for more strain specific products. Not many consumers would be happy popping a gummy thinking they are going to sleep only to end up cleaning the garage.

THE LATEST

Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014 of the industry gravitates towards distillation which is a very vanilla experience when compared to a strain specific experience where a sativa gives you wings and an indica gives you the ball and chain.

EA: The goal at SoL is to provide the cleanest, most effective medicine to our patients and recreational users. We don’t list THC on our flower menu because I believe it is the wrong way to measure the cannabis you are getting. When people order a nice glass of wine, they don’t typically ask for the alcohol content. I think we have done a major disservice to the end user when we use THC as the guideline for good medicine. SoL has won many industry awards with strains that test no higher than 17% THC. SS: There is most certainly too much emphasis on THC percentages, especially from those that do not understand the various cannabinoids and terpenes. What improvements would you like to see made in the industry specifically for medical patients?

EA: Feel free to reach out to info@solisbetter.com if you have questions about cannabis, and as always, remember to use cannabis in a responsible way. We remain Grounded in Gratitude for the Support of our Community. More information can be found on our website solisbetter.com and you can follow us on Instagram @ solisbetter and on Facebook @soLisbetter Reno. If you are in the Reno area, come visit us at 275 Old U.S. 395.

At SoL, we spend countless hours providing one-on-one and group discussions about the therapeutic qualities of cannabis and how to incorporate its use into a healthy active lifestyle. SoL has a very robust medical program that includes our RSO program where those using cannabis to fight cancer or other life threatening diseases are able to access the medicine at our cost. And, we recently introduced our point donation program allowing guests to donate their loyalty points into a bank that are made available to seniors, veterans, medical patients, and caregivers who may need a little help from time to time with the cost of their medicine.

EA: In my opinion, Nevada's medical marijuana program needs significant improvements. I believe that the process and cost associated with obtaining a medical marijuana card could use refinement. Many patients are on a fixed income, and as you know, cannabis isn't covered by insurance so many are forced to choose between cost and effectiveness. It will be a great day for patients when Nevada finds a way to incorporate cannabis into insurance coverage. I also believe the medical community needs to embrace cannabis as an effective option. Medical card holders in the state also need to support dispensaries, I hear a lot of grumbling about the absence of high quality, 500mg products in Nevada but what people fail to realize is that with a relatively short best by date which is typically 6 months or less and large batch sizes required to offset the cost of production and laboratory testing, it’s hard for many cannabis companies to justify production of medical products when they are seldom purchased. Overall, I do believe Nevada has a great program and with the continued support of the community, legislators and the Cannabis Compliance Board we will continue to strive to bring safe, clean, cost effective options to the medical and adult use community.

SS: Strain specific is definitely the way to go. What about THC levels?

Like many with CHS, Moon initially presented with an occasional bout of nausea after partaking, then progressed to vomiting uncontrollably for days; with the longest time period of 16 days, after a particular infused dinner she was reviewing. This last bout caused three ulcers to present from the constant upheaval.

Alice Moon Publicist and Social Media Strategist Alice Moon loves weed. So much so that in 2011, cannabisattendingregularlyandreviews, ediblewritingdispensary,atWorkingthearoundcareerancreatedsheentireplant.a events, while naturally garnering more than 14,000 followers on social media as a California Cannabis Influencer. Today, she works as a Publicist and Social Media Strategist in the cannabis industry. As an Account Supervisor with Trailblaze public relations firm, her work supports both ancillary companies in the space, and those working directly with the plant.

Push back from the cannabis community included grand assumptions that the culprit must be pesticides in dirty weed, or the use of Neem that isn’t flushed properly after use. If this were the case, we’d see a lot more chronic cases, in my mind, as dirty weed is abundant.

What do we cannabis patients do when we are nauseous? We smoke or consume more cannabis, as it’s known to quell that symptom, right? But Moon just kept getting sicker.

Doctor’s could only guess what was wrong, as her symptoms presented like Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome (CVS), another disorder very little is known about. One theory is, CVS is said to be brought on by anxiety and stress. Cannabis is an enhancer. Could the plant be enhancing whatever ailment(s) are already there, or is the plant actually causing the Othersyndrome?ailments causing CVS episodes and/or symptoms thereof are, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Crohn's Disease, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), gastroparesis (low stomach motility, causing delayed emptying of the stomach)

WHEN THE CURE MAKES YOU SICK

“You can try to pinhole the problem, but there’s no rhyme or reason,” Moon shared from her home in Los Angeles. “It’s so random. Many who suffer are short-time users and start getting sick up to 24 or 48 hours after use. Others are longtime users, but they all get sick in the same way. Use runs the gamut from occasional to full-time, with many like me identifying as cannabis patients, being helped by the plant until the syndrome starts.”

Do a search, and you’ll find a wide variety of the how’s and why’s of CHS, with some sites stating symptoms come on after one to five years of use. But many of the stats bantered about just don’t reflect the anecdotal stories of most who feel they suffer from this syndrome.

It took two years for Moon to be diagnosed with CHS, namely because doctors aren’t educated on cannabis or what it does and doesn’t do to begin with, let alone any malady that may or may not be associated with it. To date, there are no studies on the syndrome, only observations and anecdotal stories shared via word of mouth - as is common in the cannabis caregiver community.

BY SHARON lETTS

Past gigs include Director of Communications of Blunt Talks, a monthly Ted Talk for cannabis; and Director of Communications & Operations for the California Cannabis Awards, as CoProducer and Co-Host. She’s been written up as a cannabis lifestyle expert in publications such as the LA Weekly, High Times, and on CNN and Viceland with her company nominated for Best Tech in SoCal for the (formerly) Dope Magazine, Dope Industry Awards. Her life as an edible reviewer grew exponentially, as she was trusted for her opinions. After all, she loved the plant as much as those reading her reviews. She was one of them. She was part of the cannabis tribe and life was good for six years straight - both in using cannabis as medicine and working in the space. And then she became extremely ill.

“Much of my own research has been culled from the more than 18,000 members on a private Group Facebook page, Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome Recovery,” she explained. “Many of the members have shared they never had anxiety to begin with.”

Since high tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is said to trigger anxiety, the initial guess of CVS was an easy assumption. But her own research has shown that’s not always the case with CHS.

According to Moon and her members, all of this has been debunked through anecdotal stories. For without serious studies on this syndrome, that’s all we have - the sharing of stories, via word of mouth and social media sites.

Like any unexplained physical ailment, with the help of a doctor, she began a process of elimination from her diet - just as you would when looking for an allergic reaction.

Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome: The syndrome everyone loves to hate

Triggers include chronic fatigue, exhaustion or lack of deep sleep, certain foods and beverages, such as alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, and cheese. Alice shared a list from the CHS Recovery Group on Facebook: flax seeds, black/white pepper, truffle, kava, and rosemary.

Though Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) is often described as affecting “chronic” or “longtime” partakers, Moon’s use of cannabis wasn’t intense or lifelong. She was not a 24/7 stoner, so to speak, and only ingested a minimum 10 milligrams per day to successfully quell the anxiety and depression she had suffered from since childhood. Moon mainly smoked cannabis to unwind at the end of the day and as needed for stress-relief.

HIGH ENHANCER?

Yet, the negativity persists, with only the anecdotal stories of healing and our seemingly small voices spreading the good news of what the plant can do, globally.

Plants don’t just provide a band-aid as pharmaceuticals do (typically with a list of negative symptoms of their own, with the need for more pharma), plants address all our biological systems, naturally healing us. Or, simply put, righting us. One such example is, the ability for cannabis to address infection in the body. Pharmaceutical antibiotics kill both good and bad cells, then it’s up to your own personal alchemy and immune system to fight it. Plants, on the other hand attack infection, supporting the good cells, regenerating more healthy cells, while strengthening the immune system.

This is all done via the endocannabinoid system (eCS), the pathway for plants that address all our biological systems, creating homeostasis in the body, or a place where illness cannot dwell. And it makes us happy, but it’s not magic; it’s all science and biology. “Cannabis brought so much joy to my life,” she surmised. “The plant helped me feel more, increased my creativity, as well as making me feel happy and healthy. The medications I've been prescribed now don’t bring me any creativity at all. They don’t elevate my mood the way cannabis did, they just stabilize my mood.”

The bottom line is, she still loves the plant.

BACK TO PHARMA

“People say I work for big pharma, that I’m a mole, here to spread negative information on the plant,” she said. “But, I never meant to be an influencer, my following evolved through sharing. Now they say I’m a failed influencer. It’s been a hard road to go down.”

That said, Moon has felt the brunt of criticizing the plant. She’s had death threats, vile language spewed upon her and worse, from our own tribe. And that’s just sad, because she still loves the plant and is hopeful for a cure to this syndrome, or at least some answers that aren’t based on an urgency to support the plant at all costs.

As the years have gone by, I’ve realized that too much high THC can spike my anxiety, with others in the space confirming. Postings of this fact are often met with hostility in defense of the plant, so I’ve gotten just a taste of what Moon has gone through. I made a decision early on in my writing of cannabis to never do critical review of any products in the space. If I didn’t like a product, I just didn’t write about it, the company or its principals.

We’ve shunned the finger pointing of psychosis, neurosis, and mental disorders; we’ve beat back accusations of a lack of efficacy for myriad ailments; while shaming our own government for not acknowledging cannabis as medicine, let alone the superfood we now know it is.

After all, ingesting cannabis oil put my breast cancer into remission and did away with upwards of 10 prescription medications and supplements for numerous diagnosis and subsequent symptoms and ailments 10 years ago this year. How could I disrespect it?

When anyone blames the plant for anything, we take offense - and rightly so. We’ve been persecuted wrongly for years in the worst ways, with only our personal truths of the healing as defense.

Yet, there are thousands of people presenting with CHS, unable to partake of the plant they once enjoyed. Unable to find the relief once sought in lieu of pharmaceuticals.

JUDGMENT FROM THE TRIBE

“The lack of knowledge on this syndrome is frustrating,” she added. “One doctor I’ve been working with filed to do a controlled study, but it was rejected. They just didn’t feel there was enough demand for funding such a study.”

“I made sure I had clean and organic, pesticidefree cannabis, as many have in my group, and it made no difference,’ she said. “Many members began growing their own for this reason, but it didn’t matter. I even tried combinations of CBD derived from hemp, and that made me sick.”

*As a footnote, CBD derived from hemp is hybridized from whole plant cannabis, with trace THC, with a full terpene and cannabinoid profile. So switching to hemp wouldn’t make that much of a difference, if you are looking at allergic reactions from the whole plant as a cause for CHS. “Many CHS patients have their gallbladders wrongly removed from infection prior to a diagnosis, and they still don’t improve from CHS,” she added. Ask Moon any hypothetical question or conclusion on this syndrome, and she will quickly respond with it debunked, per she and other members. There simply are no easy solutions for this conundrum of a reaction from cannabis for some and not others.

Since Moon could no longer find relief with cannabis due to severe bouts of CHS, she was forced to go back on pharmaceuticals for a short list of symptoms, treated successfully by cannabis for a solid six years prior. “None of the pharma I’m on now works as well as cannabis did for me,” she said. “Not for my anxiety, my depression, or the pain of cramps on my period. None of it. I miss using cannabis more than I can say. Specifically as a mood stabilizer - nothing else works the same.” Cannabis, she said, uplifted her in a way nothing else “Thedoes.pharma works to a degree, but it just numbs me, where cannabis helped and healed me overall,” she said. “It’s hard to explain the difference unless you’ve experienced it for yourself. When you are helped with cannabis it’s often called a miracle - that’s how it feels. But, all that stopped for me - and many others with MoonCHS.”isn’t too far off, as the difference between using pharmaceuticals for an ailment, and choosing plants is the difference between treating a symptom and treating the whole body and mind.

We in the cannabis community don’t fare well with criticism to this plant that has helped many for decades. Thanks to our own government, the negative stigma of the plant is something we are constantly fighting against.

As a writer of cannabis as medicine, I was asked by a prominent member of the cannabis community several years ago if I would ever write anything bad about the plant. At the time I had nothing bad to say about it.

Not for fear of being criticized myself, but for the simple reason that there’s enough negativity about the plant out there, and we don’t need infighting within the tribe. We actually can’t afford the infighting if we are to move forward in educating the masses.

“Those who don’t trust me, who think I’m part of further demonizing the plant don’t know me,” she concluded. “I miss using the plant every single day and I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. The minute there’s a cure or a solution to CHS, I’ll be partaking in the plant again.”

TODD DENKIN: Billy and I had been developing a movie based on the billiondollar cannabis smuggler known as ‘The King of Pot’, Bruce Perlowin. We pitched it to Big Wheel, an Entertainment exec who was helping studios bridge their content into Web3, and he thought that we could take this idea and turn it into something phenomenal if we started with an NFT Metaverse as a backdoor to the Feature Film. As the President of Digipath Labs, a publicly traded cannabis testing company, I knew that this approach would provide a major opportunity to bridge the cannabis community to the world of Web3, and with Big Wheel’s technical and creative background, we knew that we were being led in the right direction. Hence, SMUGGLEVERSE was born.

SS: OK, this sounds fun... tell me more.

TD: Exactly! What makes these unique is that each strain will be sold just like real cannabis in the form of a kilo, a pound, a half-pound, a quarter-pound, an ounce and so forth all the way down to a joint. Using

STEPHANIE SHEHAN: Tell me a little about this project and the inspiration behind it.

TD: So essentially, the star of our platform is SMUGGLEBOT who has joined forces with some of the most infamous smugglers in the real-world to launch the first underground marketplace in the Metaverse - the SMUGGLEVERSE. Within the SMUGGLEVERSE are limited supplies of digital cannabis NFTS that can be cut and stacked, bought, and sold, just like a real-world smuggling operation.

SS: Interesting. So basically, buyers are able to purchase digital cannabis strains as NFTs and then sell them. What makes these unique? And, will there be limited amounts available?

I had the opportunity to sit down with SMUGGLEVERSE creators and cofounders, Billy “BCAP” Frank, Todd “Too Dank” Denkin, and the elusive Big Wheel to find out more about their platform and proprietary technology, which makes this such a unique and genius project.

An NFT, or non-fungible token, is a type of digital data stored in a blockchain where both the NFT and the owner’s information is recorded. It can then be transferred by the owner, allowing for the sale and trade of NFTs. In the past, NFTs have typically contained digital versions of art, music, collectibles, sports memorabilia and video games. I recently came across one of the most brilliant versions of NFT technology to date. Bringing the allure of underground smuggling together with digital cannabis, art and music, a team of award-winning entertainment, cannabis, tech, and music executives have created a one-of-a-kind platform known as the SMUGGLEVERSE.

CRYPTONYTE™ is the first digital strain released into the SMUGGLEVERSE.

our proprietary technology, NFT holders have the ability to cut a single NFT into multiple NFTs of equal weight. And just like in the real world, buying a larger quantity comes at a steep discount, which can then be cut down and sold in smaller quantities. This allows you to continue to hold some NFTs while cashing out a percentage of your stash. To build upon our proprietary technology, our virtual smugglers also have the ability to purchase smaller amounts of each strain and then stack them into larger, rarer, quantities. A limited supply of strains will be released each year and only 20 pounds of each strain will ever exist, which reduces the supply and increases the demand. As a bonus, anyone who purchased a quarter-pound NFT or higher of our first strain also received a limited-edition seed which can be used to unlock future utilities and create hybrid strains.

BIG WHEEL: Our NFTs are minted on the Polygon blockchain. NFTs are essentially a product that you build intellectual property around. Just as if we took a concept for a movie and built IP around it, we are doing the same thing except we are doing it using Web3 technologies on the blockchain. To sum it up, we are using this new technology as a form of interactive storytelling. We have a unique story and compelling characters, and when we integrate our proprietary technology, it creates a first-of-its kind NFT game that is very exciting to be a part of. For us, gamifying NFTs was the next big step since in the past, NFTs have held little value beyond being collectible. The gaming element of cutting and stacking is what allows the virtual smuggling to happen, and new digital kingpins to be minted.

SS: This really sets you apart from the NFTs we've seen from other cannabis companies and brands.

BW: Yes, and I really want to stress that these are not the typical “coupon NFTs” like most cannabis companies have released. Most cannabis NFTs we’ve seen thus far have been sold without much of a value other than some sort of coupon that can be used towards the purchase of cannabis within a real-world dispensary. I have a hard time understanding why anyone would pay for a coupon as the main utility.

SS: Music seems to be an integral part of the SMUGGLEVERSE. BW: It is! SMUGGLEVERSE MUSIC GROUP is a full-service music production company which was created to produce collaborations between Avatars in the Metaverse and some of the biggest stars in the real-world. A limited supply of new tracks will be released with each strain, providing additional utility for NFT holders. The music production company that we’re collaborating with have worked with Dr. Dre, Bruno Mars, Diplo, David Guetta, E-40 and TYGA, to name a few. SMUGGLEBOT is our first featured artist. SS: Very cool. How can interested readers find out more about the BW:SMUGGLEVERSE? Readers can visit our site at smuggleverse.com, which also has links to our official social media accounts.

Marijuana: this variety of Cannabis elicits the euphoric, intoxicating, and cerebral effects, known as the “high.” THC concentration greater than 0.3%. Marijuana is grown for either medical or recreational purposes due to its higher THC content. Speaking of getting high, let’s clarify the difference between “psychoactive and intoxicating”. By definition, a psychoactive substance is one that acts on your brain. CBD is known for its anti-anxiety and stress relieving properties, so in fact, it acts on the mind. In other words, CBD is psychoactive, and so are all hemp-based products. However, marijuana, unlikehemp is marijuanaWhilenon-intoxicating.therangeofhealth benefits outweighs the potential minor side effects, it is possible to get intoxicated with weed. Symptoms can include increased heart rate, dizziness, increased anxiety and some paranoia. Cannabidiol (CBD) has slowly but surely gained acceptance and popularity ever since hemp production was legalized in all 50 states. Due to the extremely low THC content and the scientifically proven fact that CBD doesn’t produce toxicity regardless of the dose, the above scenario is not going to happen with hemp. CBD can be found in both hemp and cannabis concentrations; however, the only federally legal source of CBD is hemp that contains under 0.3% THC. The 2018 Farm Bill made it legal to grow hemp throughout the USA. It also made hemp-derived CBD products federally legal.

Ask the Leaf Nurse

Can you get high from hemp? Is CBD a psychedelic? Is hemp legal? What is the difference between hemp and weed? Are we talking about reefer madness or being a stoner? Do you suffer from Cannabis Confusion? You are not alone. Ask the Leaf Nurse! Hemp vs. Weed and CBD vs. THC Vive le difference! Legally in the USA, the key difference between the two plants is their THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) content. Let’s define a few terms.

Hemp grows tall and thin with narrow leaves concentrating at the top of the plant. Cannabis tends to grow shorter and bushier with broader leaves, dense, resin-coated buds that contain THC.

Cannabis is grown for its flower buds that contain a high level of cannabinoids and terpenes. Hemp is grown for its stalk, a hard and woody fiber. Some grow hemp flower buds with a high percentage of cannabidiol (CBD) for a non-intoxicating and clearheaded experience. Uses: clothing, fuel, food, paper, plastic, textiles.

What do these plants look like?

Cannabis and hemp laws vary by country and state. Some states allow medical and recreational weed, others just medical. We are very fortunate to have medical and recreational cannabis available here in Nevada! I am passionate about the therapeutic benefits of cannabis. Let’s keep chatting!

Cannabis: The Canopy, the parent, the plant family that covers many species including Marijuana and Hemp. Hemp: a member of the Cannabis family. Hemp is known for its industrial uses and has a high concentration of cannabinoids (CBD) and low THC levels, less than 0.3%

Harm Reduction Therapy

>>> By: Dr. Pejman Bady, Co-Founder of The SanctuarySeptember is “National Recovery Month”

Can Cannabis Treat Opiate Addiction?

With the opiate crisis so prevalent in our state, it seems silly not to consider cannabis as a possible treatment option. There are three ways that cannabis can help in substance abuse recovery, especially concerning opiates.

Some patients who are severely addicted to substances simply aren’t ready for a life of complete abstinence, this form of therapy could be a viable option for them. Cannabis can potentially manage those physical symptoms and improve the psychological symptoms associated with dependence. However, the medical community lacks significant research concerning this topic.

As physicians, Dr. Mohajer and I have seen the devastation of opiate overdoses in our state, as the number of opiate deaths has surpassed the number of deaths through accidents.

Cannabis has become legal, in some form or fashion, in over half of the U.S. This legalization prompted many questions about its potential uses in western medicine. One of those questions is, does cannabis have a role in treating opiate addiction?

24 Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014

Some studies have revealed that the use of medical marijuana for some pain-related medical conditions, such as endometriosis, can help to prevent opioid addiction from developing. The idea here is that many patients become addicted to highly-addictive prescription painkillers, and cannabis can be used as a natural alternative. Dr. Mohajer stresses, “This isn’t a suitable option for all patients, especially in some post-operative patients. In those cases, there is a place for opiates in medicine. However, opiates aren’t intended for long-term use.”

In conclusion, Dr. Mohajer and I would like to stress that cannabis’ role in recovery is multi-faceted and has the potential to be useful in the areas discussed. Dr. Mohajer adds, “It all depends on how the patient responds – Just like any other medication that we utilize as doctors, some patients respond to them in the way that was intended, and some have side effects,” he continues, “I don't know when I prescribe an FDA approved medication if the patient is going to have one of those side effects or not. A lot of the time, it’s just trial and error.” So, if you’re considering turning to medical marijuana to help with recovery, we recommend starting with a strain with a lower amount of THC (the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis) and a higher amount of CBD.

Scientific studies have shown a synergistic analgesic effect between cannabis and opiates when used simultaneously. This means that the effect of using these substances together is greater than the effects seen when each is used by itself. Dr. Mohajer reveals, “Anecdotal reports from my patients indicate that they take less of the opiates when using cannabis as a complementary treatment – this is the synergistic property. However, it also depends on how much opiates the patient is on.” With that said, there’s the potential to delay a tolerance build-up and enhance the therapeutic benefits of opiates when used in conjunction with cannabis.

Harm reduction therapy is an approach to addiction management that doesn’t solely focus on abstinence. Instead, this approach focuses on addiction management by reducing the harmful effects of a substance and safely promoting the patient’s autonomy. Dr. Mohajer notes, “When opiates are used for an extended period of time, a physical and psychological dependence can develop.”

Cannabis Complementary Treatment Option

My business partner, Dr. Pouya Mohajer MD, and I are co-founders of The Sanctuary Cannabis Dispensaries and are heavily involved in the necessary research about this topic, as it is one we’re both passionate about. That passion led me to serve on Governor Sandoval’s task force, which was dedicated to resolving the opiate crisis and regulating the number of opiate prescriptions in Nevada.

SS: Your growing methods are unique in the cannabis industry. Are the same growing methods used at Green Life Productions also used for your produce?

STEVE CANTWELL: We broke ground December 2021. SS: You grow amazing cannabis. What made you decide to start a produce farm? SC: Sustainable agriculture and growing food has always been a goal for us. A lot of the people we look up to in the industry grow food as well as cannabis. I happen to have a good friend, Brad Thurmond, who was our hash maker at Green Life Productions. He had started a small test plot using no-till, living organic soil techniques with a market farming approach and was successful. After the CCB told us we could no longer make hash, Brad and I decided to partner up and scale up the farm on our five acre property.

STEPHANIE SHEHAN: When did you start Green Life Produce?

SC: As the seasons change, so will our selections. Our next phase will be adding three 100 ft greenhouses for this fall that way we can grow things like tomatoes and cucumbers year around.

SC: Pahrump differs from most places having extremes on all sides of the spectrum. It gets extremely hot, 110 -115 in summer, it freezes in the winter and we usually get snow on the ground a couple times a year. When it rains it pours and the wind is relentless. We're four months into this growing season and we're already talking shit on indoor growers.

SC: Yes everything is grown organically with the highest of standards. The cool thing about outdoors is that when the pests show up, so do the predators. We put things in place to attract beneficial insects like various flowering plants while maintaining a healthy aerobic environment and inoculating everything with beneficial microbes.

SS: Is the produce grown outdoors?

SC: Being that this is our first year, we decided to grow as much of a variety as possible to determine what we should grow next year. So far, we've been successful with leafy greens, carrots, tomatoes (10 varieties), cucumbers (regular & pickle), peppers (hot, sweet, and Thai), eggplants (regular and Thai), kale (curly, dinosaur & tuscan), collard greens, swiss chard, beets, several varieties of radishes, purple daikon, sweet salad turnips, microgreens and so much more.

Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014 Green Life Productions cultivates amazing cannabis. Their growing practices have set them apart from the very beginning and now, owner Steve Cantwell along with his wife Kouanin, and their family have embarked on yet another growing journey. Late last year, they started Green Life Produce out in Pahrump, Nevada and I sat down with Steve to find out what made him venture into produce and the similarities between growing cannabis and growing fruits and vegetables.

added a washroom, walk-in fridge, store, office, and bathrooms. Then we began to build our native soil. We started off tilling (one time only) 100 yards of organic compost into our first 1/2 acre plot then had our soil tested at Logan Labs. Once we got our soil report back we began to amend our soil with various organic inputs and had it tested again before planting. After it began to warm up, we started putting down high quality compost extracts and teas over the whole field and surrounding areas.

SC: Yes, we take a no-till soil food web approach but different crops will call for different techniques. For example, I can't grow a cover crop with my leafy greens because when we harvest our leafy greens we don't want clover and all these other cover crops mixed in.

SC: We opened the Farm Store to the public last month. We designed the property to have an open kitchen model but for the farm. That way, visitors can see the entire process of how their food is grown, washed and packaged from seed to sale. The Farm Store address is 6640 Hawkins Way in Pahrump, NV (just follow the green signs). And, the store is open every Saturday and Sunday, 7am-1pm.

SS: You are also at local farmers markets in Pahrump and here in the Las Vegas area. Where can we find you each week? SC: Currently you can find us at the Tractor Supply Farmer’s Market in Pahrump on Saturdays 7:30am-11am. And, we will also be at the Prevail Marketplace at Cornerstone Park in Henderson on Tuesdays 8am-12pm.

How do these programs benefit the dispensary and brands who partake? Before I became a full-time patient and advocate, I was in the world of business. I know that in order to operate and keep the doors open, money needs to be made. Offering discounts can be viewed as “money lost.” However, when done correctly, offering discounts to assist medical patients will help the dispensaries and brands who partake in the long run by increasing sales and the return rate of their customers. No matter what business you are in, if you take care of your customers, they take care of you.

they get charged like they are going out for a night on the town. No one should be suffering unnecessarily and unfortunately the high cost of cannabis medicine causes many to.

When we think of unnecessarily suffering when it comes to cannabis, accessibility comes to mind and the many states cannabis still sits as a schedule one next to heroin, or the masses incarcerated for cannabis, even in states where we can get it delivered like a pizza. But what about the issue of affordability? Many medical cannabis patients have difficulty affording the amount of medicine they need, having to deal with pain or symptoms that could be relieved by having access to additional cannabis. No one should be suffering if there are options that can help, and unfortunately in the medical cannabis community, it is too common. There is shame among patients about affording their medicine. I know because I am one of those patients that was filled with shame at one point. Moving to cannabis saved my life, but then I figured out how much I needed daily and realized I had to accept an 8 in pain on average each day, when in reality it could be so much lower. It feels like psychological torture, always knowing there could be more relief and yet it is financially unattainable. When I did the math, my shame left. For a patient like myself with numerous ailments to manage, I would need to spend over $90,000 a year on cannabis to have a 5 or lower in pain everyday. This is impossible for the majority of people, sick or healthy. It is an unattainable number and yet so many medical patients need more cannabis than they can afford. And then the shame steps in. If only I could work more. If only I could find a way to afford more. But it’s not the patient’s fault. It’s the fact that there are no discount programs that exist to help patients. It’s the fact that patients are paying the same amount for an ounce of flower to help them ease their symptoms, as someone who is using it to party or fill a giant gas mask and get blazed. Patients are not the same and it’s time we stop treating recreational and medical customers as such.

36 Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014

Cannabis has a wide range of therapeutic benefits helping individuals with so many ailments including seizures, chronic pain, gastrointestinal illnesses, and symptoms caused from cancer. And many of these ailments need large amounts of cannabis to be able to keep the symptoms at bay. Affordability limits patients access to their necessary medicine and in turn hinders their quality of life. By creating medical programs, patients are able to live the best life they can by having access to life changing medicine. Too often patients are scraping resin to get a little relief because doctor visits may have cost a little more that month, or they had to get groceries. It is not okay that people are conserving and scraping their medicine just because it is also a recreational pastime, and

Additionally, creating programs allows patients to buy more of the medicine they need and in turn, generates more sales at the dispensary. Unfortunately for many patients, they do not medicate to no symptoms, just less and it is mostly dependent on affordability. I know many patients that could benefit from a half a gram to a gram of RSO a day (myself being one of them) and yet the cost is unattainable for those who are ill and need it. And before you think “oh wow they have way too high of a tolerance”, for many chronically ill patients it has nothing to do with tolerance and everything to do with science. For example, with my illness, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, there is continued soft tissue injury which means constant cannabinoid receptors in my body are being produced, and in turn means I need massive amounts of cannabinoids. Even if I took a tolerance break, and endured agonizing symptoms from stopping cannabis, it would not change how much I need day to day to function. By giving patients discounts on the medicine they need, they will be able to afford more of the medicine they What if I told you there was a way to help medical cannabis patients live higher quality lives by offering them a discount, and at the same time increase profits of the dispensary and increase the return rate of customers? Did I spike your interest? Then let’s dive into the urgent necessity there is for programs to help medical cannabis patients and how we can make this happen.

Medical patients are the ideal customer for dispensaries. Let me explain. There are people who want to use cannabis, maybe those who use it to enhance their creativity while partaking in their favorite hobby or while listening to music to really feel every word and beat. Then there are those who need cannabis. They need cannabis to walk, to control seizures, to have less pain, to eat, and so much more. Their quality of life is increased with cannabis use, and many patients need cannabis just like they need water. Many patients simply can not go without. If they do, their symptoms increase and in turn their quality of life decreases. Those who use cannabis medicinally will always come back for more, because it is medicine, just like insulin is to diabetics. By creating programs to help patients save money on their medicine, the dispensary and brands are guaranteeing themselves return customers; many on a weekly basis that will return for the products they need to live the best life they can. And of course they will tell everyone they know about the dispensary that steps up and takes care of patients' needs.

Why do we need these programs?

The Immediate Need for Programs to help Medical Cannabis Patients

How do we make it happen?

When animals endure suffering the masses come running, yet when human suffering exists too many stay silent. It is time in the cannabis industry that patient’s voices and needs are heard. There is no more time for silence. If you are a dispensary or brand, please take the necessary steps to make changes happen, to help patients and take care of the people that frequent your business. Even if you don’t own a dispensary or brand, how can you help? Make your voice heard. Demand that change happens, and that the industry helps patients. And if you are a patient reading this who struggles to afford their plant medicine, know you are not alone and you should never be ashamed. The problem is affordability in the industry for medicine. The problem is never the patient. If a diabetic patient struggled to afford their insulin, should they be ashamed? Absolutely not! Then why should a cannabis patient carry shame for not being able to afford the medicine they need? Cannabis is medicine.

Nevada

Currently there are over 13,000 medical cannabis patients in the state of Nevada and there would be many more if there was more incentive to pay the often hefty upfront cost to obtain a medical card. There is very little benefit of obtaining a medical card. In fact, the only savings comes from taxes (medical pays 4.6% and recreational pays 15%). Other than that, medical patients are paying the same cost as recreational customers. Patients should not be paying the same cost for RSO as recreational customers when patients are using it to not have a seizure, and the other is using it to make infused guacamole for a party. So how do we fix this? We can begin at the dispensary level by offering discounts to medical patients. A 10%-20% discount will barely touch your bottom line yet could mean the difference of a medical patient having a few more hours outside of bed with their family or being able to enjoy more moments within their day without pain screaming so loud they can barely think. Additionally, brands can offer discounts on specific products they sell to medical patients. Because the reality is, offering below market price to medical patients will not take your profit margin and again, the customers will continue to return for more of the products that help them.

Medical patients needed these programs to begin yesterday, and since we can’t turn back time, as soon as possible is a great goal to have. I understand things like this take time, but there needs to be wheels in motion. Change needs to happen, because the harsh reality is, no one should have to choose between rent, food, and their medication. Too often cannabis is overlooked within the medical space, but it is in fact people’s medicine and is a necessity for many.

KID ‘N PLAY Christopher “Kid” Reid, originally from the Bronx, and Christopher “Play” Martin, from Queens, New York, met in the 1980’s. The pair recorded three albums together between 1988 and 1991, all focused on fun lyrics backed by hot friendly instrumental tracks: ''2 Hype'' (1988), ''Funhouse'' (1990) and ''Face the Nation (1991). Among the group's most successful singles were 1989's "Rollin' with Kid 'N Play" which reached #11 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Billboard R&B singles chart, 1990’s "Funhouse" which reached #1 on the Hot Rap Tracks Billboard rap singles chart, and another #1 rap hit, "Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody.” The group's stage show highlighted their teen-friendly personalities, and dances such as their famous trademark Kid ’N Play Kick Step. Kid's visual trademark was his high-top fade haircut, which stood ten inches high at its peak, while Martin with the low top fade regularly wore unique custom-made jackets. In addition to their music, Kid 'N Play starred together in four feature films, three of which are part of New Line Cinema’s “House Party” series, as well as Warner Brothers’ hit feature, “Class Act.”

VIRGO (AUG 22 – SEPT 22)

With all the excitement of Summer and your high drive for hustle, your to do list likely feels like it’s never ending. Don’t be surprised if you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed this month. Instead of adding things to the list, try to focus on cleaning up what’s already been started. We know you get bored easily, but now is the time to slow down and reflect on your priorities. Especially as Mercury stations retrograde in Libra on September 9th causing communication issues and technical delays. Although you’ll feel like being a social butterfly, you need some relaxing alone time to recharge your energy. We recommend Nature’s Chemistry’s Garlic Cookies for an indica dominant high that will help you unwind.

ARIES (MARCH 20 – APRIL 19)

Your birthday season has you feeling large and in charge! You are very generous this month and your desire to help others is strong. Thanks to the influence of Venus moving into Virgo on the 4th, you are focused on others’ needs and being a provider for them. Overall, you will have a lot of social endeavors and will enjoy being quite extroverted. Be cautious of having too high expectations for those you love. Remember, no one is perfect! As there are 5 planets in retrograde by the 9th of September, go with the flow and try not to take things too seriously. Treat yourself to a tasty concentrate while you’re celebrating like the Diamond Dust live hash rosin by Virtue.

You are still reveling in the easy energy that is flowing your way in September. It’s a great time to enjoy the sunshine with a trip that will energize you for the rest of the year. Although others around you may be stressed, you handle any challenges with ease and provide support to close loved ones in need. You are feeling stimulated and find yourself developing your creative endeavors such as making music, cooking, and any artistic expression that you’re drawn to. It’s a good time to make things that you may have been putting off. SEPTEMBER HOROSCOPES

By Margaux Hansberry

As we are transitioning through Virgo season, you feel energized and gassed up. It’s a social month involving parties, reunions, vacation, and visits with loved ones. Things are going smoothly and it’s easy not to let conflicts bring you down. It feels like a fresh beginning with a lot of excitement for the future. Mercury stations retrograde on September 9th, so be cautious of miscommunications and change of plans. No matter, you’re able to approach challenges boldly and confidently this month! It’s a great time to settle down with someone, especially as Venus moves into Libra on the 29th. You’ll have no problem making those around you feel good. Share the love with a stimulating 5 pack of prerolls like the Chem ’91 by State Flower.

ideal partnership or friendships. You may feel withdrawn due to insecurities. Try not to let your emotions dictate your actions and if you’re upset take some time to withdraw from the situation. The best thing to do is to focus on loving yourself and finding inner peace. Don’t depend on an emotional attachment with someone else to make you feel better, as this could result in rejection and heartbreak. Keep a cart around for those times that you need help smiling like the uplifting Green Life Productions Miss X cartridge by Rove.

GEMINI (MAY 20 – JUNE 20)

Virgo directly opposes Pisces so things may feel a bit off this month or like you can’t catch a break. Think of these inconveniences as contrast to help you practice gratitude, which is often taken for granted. September 10th is the full moon in Pisces which is a great time to reach for your dreams and shed anything that no longer serves you. Overall, you’ll want to prioritize your health and wellness as things can feel stressful. You are prone to depression so keep a pack of the Peach Prosecco 1:1 Pearls around by Grön for when you’re not feeling your best. Finding a friend to vent with can be helpful, too.

AQUARIUS (JAN 19 – FEB 18)

Just have fun and go with the flow. You get bored easily so follow your instincts if you’re losing interest. Try your best not to hurt anyone in the process of exploring. Make sure to enjoy a heavy indica like the OG Kush by VADA to slow you down if you’re feeling scattered.

SCORPIO (OCT 23 – NOV 21) This month is a bit tumultuous especially when it comes to matters of the heart. You are occupied by relationship goals and if single may be tempted by a forbidden flirtation. You won’t shy away from complex or complicated relationships. There may be some inner dilemmas in which you come across as cold but are craving sex and romance. It’s easy to stay calm and keep your feelings to yourself which is bolstered by a strong streak of independence. Give yourself some time alone to think about what you really want. A reflective stony strain like the True OG by Polaris could help you figure things out.

SAGITTARIUS (NOV 21 – DEC 21)

CAPRICORN (DEC 21 – JAN 19) We all know that you can handle a high performance workload but be cautious of doing too much this month. You may have taken on extra responsibilities to cover for others which will lead to your own priorities piling up. Although it feels like you’re stuck and unmotivated, you just need to slow down and make a plan to take care of things one at a time. Start by thinking about what you want during the full moon in Pisces on the 10th. You’ll feel better once you prioritize what’s most important for reaching your goals. If you feel down, don’t focus on the past but look forward instead. We recommend a happy strain like the Sequoia Strawberry by BAM to keep you encouraged.

This month you are distracted by connecting with potential partners and celebrating your sexual freedom. It feels like you’re all over the place and you may come across as unreliable. Due to your charming nature, your friends and family will understand. This month is not a time to make any long term serious decisions.

You’re leading the pack this month whether that be at home with family or work with colleagues. Spending time with people will energize you as they look up to your encouragement and guidance. You’re easily able to inspire cooperation and teach others. Be cautious of making new plans while Mercury is in retrograde starting on the 9th. Instead, it’s a good time to tackle things you’ve been working on in your relationships either with friends, family, or a partner. Just be sure to communicate clearly and positively to avoid misunderstandings.

He had a friend doing window tinting, so he made a point to refer clients to him to keep leads flowing and the money in their circle. His first year in business yielded just under 100k. At a lunch meeting with his friend that did the window tinting, Heuer learned that his friend was making more than double what he had made. He quickly did the math and learned that 40% of his friend’s business were clients that Heuer had referred to him. Thus, Heuer made the jump to tinting and Accentrick Tint was born.

Accentrick can tint anything and everything that is glass. Heuer, along with his son Jordan do all the work themselves. They are the home window tinting experts as well as commercial and automotive installation professionals. They specialize in security tint on homes which protects families and their valuables. With home invasions up 66%, the most vulnerable portion of most homes is the glass. All it takes is one rock, and three seconds later, burglars can be inside your home.

Kenny “The Shark” Heuer is originally from Huntington Beach, CA and has been a Las Vegas local since 1989. In 1993, Heuer started a local car and truck club called Sweet Productions which led to club members visiting his house for auto detailing prior to the car shows. One of the members suggested that Heuer’s work should really be turned into more of a mobile detailing business. After pondering the idea for a bit and, given at that time there were only a handful of mobile detailers in the valley, Heuer decided it was in fact a great idea and opportunity.

Heuer uses only the highest performance, top of the line residential window tinting and automotive film on the market to ensure the best product being installed. Not only can you save on energy bills you can also feel safer knowing your home and office windows can be protected with security tint. And, all window tint they install is backed by a manufacturer's nationwide, lifetime, free-replacement warranty. Accentrick Tint guarantees the film will never turn purple, bubble, peel, crack, delaminate, or it's replaced for free. For more information, visit Accentrick online at or call (702) 606-9660. I first got started in the industry by attempting to apply at a grow facility. I didn't get the job because I didn't have enough experience. So I watched some videos on how to grow and decided to be a budtender. I asked a few budtenders at my local dispensary how to get into industry but ultimately I ended up at Inyo fine cannabis dispensary and been here for a solid 2 years.

A good ole’ blunt for me is how I like to consume my cannabis flower. Every now and then I like to roll papers. As far as my concentrates, I have a couple different devices I use such as the Puffco and my new favorite Huni Badger. Every so often I enjoy edibles to maintain my elevation.

How did you get your start in the industry?

What are some of your favorite LOCAL brand?

What’s the most interesting product you’ve sold or seen in a dispensary?

Myrcene would have to be my favorite terpene because I love mangos. I once had a mango body scrub that had me really relaxed and when I consume cannabis product with high myrcene it does my body right!

Budtender at INYO I would say it would be energetic, genuine and compassionate. Nine times out of ten when I come in for a shift, my energy is high, funny and 100% real and concerned when assisting a customer.

Currently, I’m smoking on a few strains from different growers. My favorite right now would be the I-15 by Pheno Exotic. It’s very tasty, really smooth on the inhale and the exhale has you cruising like you’re doing 45mph in a 40mph zone.

What’s something that you didn’t expect or something that surprised you when you first got into the industry?

What’s the most rewarding part of budtending for you?

Darius Blake is a budtender at Inyo Fine Cannabis Dispensary. He uses his humor to make his customers feel comfortable and his wealth of knowledge to make sure they get what they need. There aren’t too many things he can’t do which makes him a valuable asset to his team.

One thing I didn't expect was to have as much fun as I have been having. Also something that did surprise me was that not all of the shops have their own grow facilities.

What are your favorite terpenes?

When it comes to the brands out there, there are many I like but just a handful that I really rock with. Pheno Exotic is my favorite at the moment; love what they got going on. Binske is another one that is banging out some heat- their concentrates are fire every time I pick up a few grams.

I always enjoy being able to aid people and finding a product they've been looking for and also helping find the right product that fits them.

What are you smoking on?

GLP had come out with some concentrated live rosin that had an amazing smell and out of this world taste. Didn't get to sell too many because the ticket on it was kind of pricey but I made a few folks happy with it. I'm so glad I got to taste some of it. If you had to describe your budtending style in three words, what would they be?

What’s your favorite way to consume?

What’s something you didn’t expect or something that surprised you when you first got into the industry?

I’m a weird one. I love terpinolene, limonene, caryophyllene and who can forget a-pinene. I love those guys.

It made all the hard work feel acknowledged and respected just a little bit more. I was so humbled to even get to be nominated, let alone 3 categories. But dude it felt great. Now I just have to win one!

I think when it all comes down to it I just love talking terpenes and helping them find the terp they love. Also teaching customers how to avoid buying the wrong thing and not liking it or having a bad reaction. I just love helping people find their response and not a reaction. Have you ever learned anything from a customer? If so, what was it? I learned how to slow down a bit and listen more. I’m someone who is so “go go go” and now I still stay the course on sativa, but I have learned it’s not all a race, it’s a journey. And the patients I’ve helped have truly helped me grow as a person, just by listening.

That’s an easy one: suppositories. I’m kidding, I'm kidding. Dabs baby! There is nothing better than a tasty cold start when I get home from a long day at work. Def dabs.

Honestly, it was to help people find what they might really like without spending all their hard earned money and help educate them a little more on what they might really enjoy. What did it mean for you to get nominated for a Las Vegas Cannabis Award?

I got my fist dispensary job at Top Notch out of pure luck. I started out as a cashier. I didn’t care how or what I was doing just as long as I was in the cannabis industry. I knew I could prove myself if I just listened and learned. And now I’m a Budtender and get to have so much fulfillment in helping people find all their cannabis needs medically and recreationally What’s your favorite topic to educate a customer on?

What are your favorite terpenes?

How this whole industry works as a business. It truly is a community ya know. You meet pop-up workers who are just super awesome people who have families and are just trying to make a living and be in the moment. Honestly I’m just humbled to get to be a part of it and grow with this crazy industry and see where it takes me.

Mammoth Labs I have been messing with super tough. Also, MPX, GLP Rosin, Grower Circle and Virtue.

Nick James is a rising star at Top Notch Dispensary. He’s one of the most energetic budtenders in the state of Nevada. He’s making a name for himself by doing fun and informative product reviews. His love for the plant motivated him to transition from the food industry to the cannabis industry and he’s been thriving ever since. How did you get your start in the industry?

CANNABIS AND PETS

Lima TM, Santiago NR, Alves ECR, Chaves DSA, Visacri MB. Use of cannabis in the treatment of animals: a systematic review of randomized clinical trials. Anim Health Res Rev. 2022 Jun;23(1):25-38. doi: 10.1017/S1466252321000189. Epub 2022 Jun 15. PMID: 35703023.

As for the safety and efficacy of cannabis use in dogs for therapeutic purposes, a study held by de Andrade et al. (2022) confirmed my recommendations. It is possible to administer cannabis products for the treatment of dogs. Only CBD (Cannabidiol) which contains very low traces of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), or is free of THC is approved by scientists. CBD can improve the quality of life and can also reduce pain in animals. It is also recommended to pay close attention to proper dosing, as dosing is dependent on the weight of the dog. Dogs that are 20lbs and under should only consume .25ml (a quarter of the dropper) twice a day. After a week you can increase the dose to .50ml (half of the dropper). Large dogs can have a full dropper or 1ml, twice a day. CBD has shown therapeutic significance in the reduction of osteoarthritis, increased activity, and significant reduction of epilepsy in dogs.

Treating pets with cannabis has been a controversy for years. Some people find it completely fine to medicate their pets with non-psychoactive cannabis. Whereas, others may oppose the use of non-psychoactive cannabis compounds for pets. In my “budtending” days, I’d frequently get approached by customers wanting products for their pets. From treats and topicals to tinctures. However, the knowledge that I acquired at the beginning of my career in cannabis directed me to never recommend products containing THC for pets. It was a firm “CBD only” for me when it came to pets. Around the year 2016, I had a cat named Simba (rest in peace Simba), who was a male calico and very adventurous. He climbed any gate or fence we had around our home. One day he came home with a broken tail. Usually, veterinarians will wrap it, but there’s not much else they can do. The cat will most likely remove the wrap. So, I decided to give him CBD drops from a tincture in his water bowl. I did it for a whole week. After the 6th day, he was completely healed. I was amazed at his progress, and how quickly he got back to climbing fences. From that day on, whenever I’d encounter a customer with a pet who had similar situations or issues with pain and inflammation, I’d tell them this story and encourage them to put the drops in their water. Or if their pet could tolerate it, I’d recommend that they administer it orally. I still swear by this method as I have done it with all of my pets and have found it successful, especially when it comes to anxiety, arthritis, or lack of sleep with our pets. Ever since cannabis has been legalized in many areas of North America, reports of toxicosis (poisoning) of pets have increased. A survey study which was held by Amissah et al. (2022), specifically targeted veterinarians in the United States and Canada. Since 2018, the number of cases reported of cannabis toxicosis in dogs significantly increased. The reported symptoms experienced by pets who have consumed cannabis are as follows: Ataxia (poor balance, eye movement, swallowing, muscle coordination), disorientation, urinary problems, and sensitivity to senses such as sight, touch, smell, and sound. Reduced heart rate, lack of energy, and weakness. The most common reason is? Edibles. The reports recorded found that the occurrence was when dogs were unattended. Most of the pets who experienced toxicosis completely recovered, showing promise of not acquiring long-term effects. Although, there were reports of some deaths.

For the past 2 years, my partner and I gave our beautiful Husky-Malamute a dropper a day. She suffered from osteoarthritis and earlier this year was diagnosed with nasal carcinoma. This means that a mass that was cancerous was forming and spreading in her nasal cavity. There was nothing we could do for her except make the last few months of her life comfortable. She had constant congestion and bleeding from the nose. We continued to give her CBD daily (in addition to her prescribed meds) as it helped her have a good night’s rest and also kept the inflammation down. CBD helped her tremendously, Khloe lived longer than the doctor predicted. We put Khloe down on 06/03/2022, this column is dedicated to the memory of our beautiful, sweet, “Khlo Khlo.” She changed me! I was scared of dogs all of my life, ever since I was attacked by a dog at the age of 6. When I met Khloe she always respected my boundaries. She was very sweet and always listened. We miss you boo, thank you for showing me how to love dogs again! You will always be missed!. It is always recommended to speak with an educated professional prior to using CBD for any medicinal treatment purposes. The first thing to ensure is that there are not any drug interactions with their current medications. Speaking to their veterinarian is always recommended. If they are not supportive of the use of CBD for treatment, there are other doctors who can help. CBD for pets is not currently sold in Nevada dispensaries, due to regulations. Although, you can find pet tinctures from a reputable company that I recommend at www. CannaHemp.com. Use promo code “Canna” for an additional discount!

Lots of people assume I am Italian. I get asked that question a lot. Most go off my looks, but others that know me assume it’s because of my love for pizza. Like most of the planet, it’s one of my favorite if not my favorite things to eat. Growing up, we had some really authentic pizza places nearby like a place called Vitos.. I can smell and taste their sauce in my mind. It is really a great comfort food. I started making pizzas of my own and realized I can now take my favorite dish and use it as medicine. I love giving readers the opportunity to personalize my recipes to their liking. But just in case you need some ideas, here's a list of my go to toppings:

Pepperoni,MEATS: Chicken, Steak, Sausage, Pork, Ham , Meatball, VEGGIES:ProsciuttoOnions, Kale, Mushrooms . Onions. Peppers, Spinach, Zucchini, Broccoli, Yellow squash, Tomatoes, & Olives. Ready in 25 minutes Serves 8 (makes 2 pizzas)

"STONED"HOMEADEPIZZA

1/2 cup pizza sauce 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

CHEESES: Mozzarella, Gouda, Provolone , Parmigiano, Cheddar Asiago, Feta, Swiss, Monterey

Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups flour all-purpose 2 teaspoons salt 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast (less than 1 packet)

1 tablespoon cannabis infused olive oil + 3 tablespoons olive oil

Assorted pizza toppings of your choice

Preparation: Mix flour, salt, dry yeast, and water together to make dough. The dough should be moist but hold together. You may want to use floured hands at the end of mixing just to form it into a ball. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and go do something else for 8 – 24 hours. Coat your skillet(s) and or pan(s) on the bottom and sides with olive oil. Use at least 1 ½ tablespoons per pan. Once the dough has doubled in size or more, sprinkle the dough lightly with flour and dust your hands with flour as well. Pick up the dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Form each piece into a tight ball by tucking the ends under itself. Place one dough ball in each pan, turn to lightly coat with oil. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees (yes, you read that correctly, you want a very hot oven). Use your fingertips to press the dough in the pan, spreading it out until it fills the entire pan. Press out any big air bubbles as you want these gone before baking. Use fingertips along the edges of the pan to press the dough down and form a small lip going up the sides. This may be challenging depending on how elastic your dough is. If you can’t get it to stay up on the sides, no worries. Your weed pizza will still come out looking and tasting delicious. Top each pizza with about 1/2 cup of sauce, followed by an even sprinkling of grated cheese, about 1 cup per pizza. Add any other desired toppings. Bake the pizza for about 15 minutes. When ready, the cheese on top should be golden brown, melted, and bubbly. The crust should also be golden brown. It is a good idea to take a knife or spatula and lift an edge of the crust and make sure the underneath is properly browned, before removing the pizza from the oven. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. You can cut right in the pan, especially if you used a cast iron skillet. Otherwise, use a spatula to help you slide the pizza out of the pan and onto a cutting board.
