ABOUT THE AWARDS A desire to see the party industry recognised! For more than a decade there has been a new industry bubbling across the globe - the exciting world of professional party styling. This industry takes the grand scope of big budget events across to suburban backyards and small party venues. Australia has seen growth across this sector brought about by the increased supply and variety of themed partyware, balloon and prop hire specialists, creators of custom decorations and favours, as well as florists and party entertainers. More recently we have seen cake decorators, cookie makers, and specialist bakers grow their talents to create extraordinary feats of design with skills that make our eyes pop and our hands reach out to take as many pieces as we are allowed. Or, if you’re a one-year-old, to take this creative masterpiece and smash it into a million yummy crumbs! Party Styling has also emerged as a new career path for many. This has seen the humble DIY party elevated to the stuff of fantasy, produced with expert precision, and with an unwavering eye for detail. There can be no doubt that it is past time to celebrate the exceptional talent of small businesses in this industry. The awards aim to recognise leaders and standouts in their field for innovation, collaboration, and customer service. Our aim is to support and give back by rewarding their efforts and commitment to delivering excellence. An important consideration for the Awards was that they showcase the most outstanding businesses in their area of expertise. This is why we chose to work with a peer-reviewed judging process based on meeting standardised criteria. Winners are awarded on merit rather than a public voting system, thus allowing a fairer and more balanced approach to recognising those who serve our industry with grace and commitment, no matter how many clients or followers they have.

For over half a decade she has built a thriving children’s party styling and entertainment business on the NSW Central Coast and founded Party Stylists Australia which she started to connect and network with other small Australian party businesses. Prior to joining the industry, Rochelle spent over 20 years in the finance sector supporting executives and managing large scale conferences and international events. Rochelle also cofounded The Partypreneurs together with business partner, Erin McGinley with a view to supporting other party creatives to develop and grow their own businesses in the Australian Party Industry.

Erin has been running small businesses in the events and party industry since late 2014. With experience spanning the e-commerce world, prop hire, and various aspects of the wedding industry including video, event management, and styling she has successfully been published in several magazines for conceptual styling ideas in collaboration with one of Australia’s top floral artists. With a Communications Degree (Hons) focused primarily on writing, she brings her unique approach to problem- solving and idea generation to Party Stylists Australia. With skills in website building, coaching, and the odd dad joke, Erin likes to lighten the sometimes serious mood that can overshadow running any small business.

Esther is the Owner and Director of Confetti Fair.

Maria is the Digital and Creative Director of Confetti Fair.

Boss and admin super star, Esther was drawn to Confetti Fair by her love of everything party planning which really spoke to her strong planning and organising gene. Keeping herself busy makes her happy, which she does planning future Confetti Fair activities and generating the spark that becomes our renowned shoots and magazines. Alongside driving the strategy and ideas for Confetti Fair, Esther also manages a demanding senior role in online communications, events and media in investor relations. A jack of many trades, she previously also ran her own styling business, and regularly works in events and parties, catering, styling or planning for her own small clientele.

Confetti Fair’s creative and digital heartbeat and a marketer by trade who lives and breathes all things digital. A digital marketing dinosaur with 15 years of experience, she also has a print and magazine publishing background. A self-taught designer and illustrator, publishing a magazine has always been a life long dream that became a reality with Confetti Fair. Maria has experience in every facet of digital marketing, from social, paid media, SEO, and even technical implementations. Her particular area of expertise is in email marketing. She has developed digital strategies for businesses large and small, across events, tourism, e-coupon, e-commerce, and hospitality.

THE PARTY STYLIST of the year awards 2021 ROUNDUP In 2021, Confetti Fair and Party Stylists Australia teamed up to bring to life their shared vision to recognise the incredible talent and creatives of the party industry in Australia and launch the inaugural Party Stylist of the Year Awards. Over 18 months of planning went into developing the Awards. In early 2021, the Awards team brought together a well-respected judges’ panel and peer-reviewed process to ensure that finalists were fairly judged based on meeting the criteria for their category rather than popularity. We appreciate the very difficult job

THE JUDGES No awards program is possible without judges and we understand the importance of assembling a panel of experts who have achieved great success at building grass roots businesses, and the value they bring to the table. Our judges were selected because of their contribution to the party industry as thought leaders, mentors and innovators. They also had a vision for what the Australian party industry could achieve. In many ways, the successes that our judges have enjoyed in their professional lives has paved the way for other small business entrepreneurs to follow. Importantly, our judges support the industry and are committed to seeing it grow and achieve even greater success. With their keen eye for detail and ability to assess the carefully constructed responses from over 90 applications, our judging panel had the difficult job of deciding who to award our industry’s most prestigious accolades to.

To determine the winners we know that our judges committed hours and, in some instances days, carefully assessing each entry. One by one, they reviewed the submissions based on a specific set of criteria that covered service excellence, innovation, client management, inspiration, creativity, training and communication. MARY RONIS, MARY RONIS EVENTS FOUNDER AND CREATOR Mary is a coffee addict, magazine hoarder, embracer of the ridiculous, and a genuine lover of life. She is also perfectionist, meticulous organiser and known for her attention to detail. However, the most significant factor that drives her and her work is her love for people and her deep desire of creating joy. Mary’s contributions to the industry include being an ambassador for Life’s Little Celebrations for the last three years, as well as a guest speaker at conferences and online seminars. She has also been invited to speak at international forums.

TANYA CASTELLINO, LIFE’S LITTLE CELEBRATIONS DIRECTOR Tanya is the founder of Life’s Little Celebrations, which has promoted and supported kids event vendors for the last 10 years! She also launched the Celebrate Conference for kid’s event vendors in Australia, bringing together our industry along with amazing speakers. She has also founded the Celebrate Society membership, providing support, promotion and networking for vendors in our industry! She is the founder of ‘Celebrating Little Ones’ magazine along with the well known Life’s Little Celebrations blog and directory where she showcases members of ‘The Celebrate Society’. She has grown her Instagram following to 115K+ followers and developed an amazing industry community. Her business has been featured in publications such as Donna Hay Magazine and Practical Parenting Magazine.

CAROLINE HUTCHISON, EVENTS FANTASTIC GENERAL MANAGER Caroline is an accomplished corporate event manager who has built a successful career within the events industry. She is currently leading the vibrant and creative team as the General Manager of Events Fantastic Australia, Backdrops Fantastic, Modular Backdrops Australia, and Light Up Letters. Caroline brings with her over twelve years’ experience, having started her career in the Corporate Event world organising all aspects of conferences, awards, and company events. Caroline believes in giving back to the community and industry through volunteering, sponsorship, and raising the bar of excellence within the industry. Caroline is the Vice President of Women In Tourism, and is actively involved in and a member of Meetings & Events Australia, Business Chicks, Gold Coast Tourism, and Burleigh Business Women.

STEVE THOMPSON, TRANSCAL CEO AND FOUNDER Steve has been involved in the Branding industry for nearly 40yrs. Over the course of his career he has worked with numerous International Organisations including Cadbury, Coca Cola and Streets Ice Cream. While assisting Telecom to rebrand to Telstra in the early 1990s, Steve realised there was a gap in Australia in the emerging vehicle branding market, and in 1994 he established the first of his many companies Transcal Pty Ltd under a house in an outer suburb of Melbourne. Successfully hiring and mentoring staff over the past 25yrs has created opportunities for both Steve, and his employees, to share in the successes of the business while ensuring stable financial futures for all due to performance-based rewards. Steve’s entrepreneurial skills have also involved creating companies in the fields of corporate interior design, lingerie, and international business activities in India.

DEAN SALAKAS, THE PARTY PEOPLE CHIEF PARTY DUDE Dean has worked in the party industry since the age of 4 where he would put sand in bags for his parents to make balloon weights for the family business. Dean serves on the advisory board of the Online Retail Summit and Etail Australia conferences, as well as an advisor to retail tech businesses. The Party People is a proud member of PEBA (pro environment balloon alliance), a founding member of BASA (Balloon Artists and Supplies Association Australia) and founding member of QBN (Qualatex Balloon Network). The Party People is Australia’s largest physical store with over 20,000 party products all in one location. The Party People is a highly decorated awards winner having been recognised by the Australia Retail Association, and National Retail Association awards, as well as the inaugural winner of the 2021 Partyware Supplier Of The Year Award.

JULIA ROSE, FLOWERS BY JULIA ROSE ROCKSTAR FLORIST AND OWNER Julia is known for creating branding images for growers and internationally recognized brands, including billboards, largescale media campaigns, social media and red carpet events; including designing a floral gown for the red carpet at the Film and TV awards. Her list of achievements spans incredible industry and creative sectors with her most recent achievement a personal invitation to display at the Chelsea Flower Show. Appointed Creative Director and Arts Curator for the Main Beach Spring Flower Festival, she has Conducted Demonstrations and Workshops throughout Australia, Japan, Indonesia, and the USA. Julia’s work sees her create Fresh floral fashion pieces on roaming Models for VIP parties & celebrity events, and exhibiting on the main stage with a demonstration at Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Her designs feature in worldwide campaigns, as well as national and international fashion magazines in over 80 countries. Julia has designed countless Cover images for print and online publications.

RACHEL LEONHARDT, SECRETS OF THE ORDINARY OWNER Rachel is known for her energy and expertise in turning utter chaos into a workable calm. Known to inspire and empower people to create events that ignite empathy from within, she will inspire you to create events that you are proud of. Her experience in the industry is widely varied from theatre and live event stage management, across property broadcasting, event planning and coordination to coaching and training in these areas. Rachel was born in Brisbane, Queensland and practically raised in the theatre world with both parents also being engaged in the industry. It was just normal family life. This allowed Rachel’s imagination to flourish and as she grew her want to bring childhood emotions to life for everyone to experience is what drew her back from the corporate world to where she is now.

RENU WASAL, GOLOVE CEO AND FOUNDER Community work has been the essence of her family life growing up. And since graduating she has worked in multiple countries and industries such as Pharmaceuticals, and Health and Technology. No matter where she is and what she has done her purpose has been to drive a positive change in people’s lives. As a parent to two beautiful children Renu realised the importance of good education. She feels every child deserves the opportunity to be educated and have all resources available to them no matter where they live. Renu’s vision is to make this intention a reality through GoLove.

ALEXANDRA BULL, RUBY RABBIT FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR Coming from a background in professional event planning in the Sydney entertainment and hospitality industry, Alex has now been hand curating modern party goods that inspire on-trend themes and bringing celebrations to life for the professional party maker and DIY party lover for almost a decade. She works closely with some of the top stylists and planners in Australia building relationships with like minded industry professionals. With a Business Degree plus her event management and customer service background Alex established Ruby Rabbit when she knew she needed to balance career and motherhood. MARIOS JOSEPH, EVENTIS WEDDINGS & EVENTS OWNER Designing, planning and styling parties and events is what Marios does best along with a carefully curated collection of on trend hireable props and decor. Before starting an events business Marios spent a good part of his career within the Hospitality and Events industry from operations, to sales and marketing working for some of Sydney’s renowned luxury hotels and events spaces. PELIN TOMEO, PICTURE PERFECT PLANNING PERTH OWNER Pelin is a mother of two, and prior to starting a family she spent 11 years working in function management across hotels in Perth which followed her early career life in Real Estate. After planning tons of events for family and friends Pelin decided to start her own business in the party industry. Since starting her business she has been featured in Confetti Fair, and Life’s Little Celebrations magazines and was a Rising Star of the Year finalist in 2021. Picture Perfect Planning was also recognised in the top 10 Party Stylist of the Year finalists in their first year of business. Having since expanded from event styling by purchasing a second business, Perth High Chair Hire, Pelin has been going from strength to strength serving her clients. With a love of coordinating and creating her own concepts, Pelin likes to bring her unique and personalised service and ideas to each clients event.

NICOLE JEFFREY, KIDS PAMPER PARTIES OWNER Nicole’s career foundation was set originally in the graphic design space, coupling that with six years in the events industry, and a background as a professional makeup artist Nicole saw an opportunity to create a unique business idea and several years ago launched Kids Pamper Parties. Now leading a large team of makeup artists, and beauticians within the kids entertainment space, she has been acknowledged by both her local business awards, and the best of beauty awards. With an invitation to join The Sydney Royal Easter Show she has since adapted the business model to become a stand partner at this annual event. Kids Pamper Parties provide pamper services to their clients across a large part of NSW.

AWARD CATEGORIES PARTY STYLIST The Party Stylist of the Year Award recognises all Australian businesses who create, design, style and output complete parties and small events, including collaborative ventures where the Stylist coordinates other vendors.

RISING STAR The Rising Star category celebrates all Australian party businesses who began operations on or after 1 January 2021.

BALLOON ARTIST The Balloon Artist category recognises a balloon business or individual who creates pieces that are artistic representations on a smaller scale by creating unique designs that are visually interesting or one off pieces, balloon twisted or highly intricate.

HIRED STYLE My name is Jenni Howells and I’m the owner and founder of Hired Style. Hired Style started because of my passion, my hobby if you like. WEDFEST AUSTRALIA After many years of working for someone else, sitting behind a desk, I planned and pulled off my own completely DIY WEDFEST in 80 short days. After years of encouragement, I finally decided to listen to what my friends and family had been telling me for years. Parties and events are something that I do naturally. My husband and son work with me, creating the backdrops and installing them on the day and also helping me with setting up. I am lucky to have a talented husband who can weld, build and design our unique backdrops, light up numbers, wedding arbours and anything else my heart desires for my business.

It is a huge honour to be a part of a clients event/milestone/ celebration, whether it is a birthday, or a new baby. There is nothing I enjoy more that helping a client’s vision come to life. Décor is such an important part of any celebration or event, and to be able to provide décor that has such an impact on people and an event space is amazing.

As a passionate decorator herself, she pivoted to full-time cake-teaching two years ago, which has given her the opportunity to empower fellow cakers to level up their skills and reach their full creative potential. She offers a range of classes and private sessions tailored to helping her students create amazing cakes for their next party. Amber has been recognised as a top four finalist for the international Cake Masters Awards (2017), a top three finalist for the ACDN Cake Decorating & Baking Industry Awards (2018, 2019, 2020) and has featured in numerous industry-related publications, such as Cake Masters and American Cake Decorating Magazine. FIONA’S FANCIES ONLINE The formation of Fiona’s Fancies started back in September 2013 after migrating from the UK, specialising in bespoke celebration cakes and cookies.

Over the course of nine years Fiona’s Fancies has evolved and now also specialises in corporate cupcakes and cookies, personalised cookies, cookie cakes, grazing boxes and much more servicing Dawesville, Perth City, Australia and overseas. In her early career Fiona was incredibly lucky to be given an opportunity to being offered to working all over the UK and in France, where although her French was not brilliant, she learnt by watching the talented French Patisserie chefs and bakers create their traditional treats and delights. This then led her to work in London for the Royal Family and then at Windsor Castle for the Queen Mother. DES BAKES & DECORATES Desiree (Des) Preston is the Owner and Creator at Des Bakes & Decorates. Beginning in November 2020 after finally deciding it was time to turn her passion into a business - after having become a stay-athome-Mum to two beautiful girls. Des has always had a passion for creating cakes and treats for family and friends since she was a teenager. Her other love is in event planning and styling from experience she gained over 15 years in the events industry, organising small to large scale local and international events - including her own wedding, and yes, she even made her own wedding cake! With the perfect combination of skills, experience, and her love for helping others celebrate their loved ones, she has planned and styled numerous parties, as well as created uniquely designed edible art over the last year. SILLY SUGAR BY SUJI My passion for baking and creation was instilled in me from a young age. I was also inspired by my mum’s love for baking, which pushed me to embark on a journey as pastry chef 12 years ago.

I’m a qualified pastry chef with 8 years trade experience. I have good knowledge in accounting and management as this is what I studied before starting my journey as a Pastry Chef. Apart from being a baker and decorator, I’m mum of two beautiful children under six. I’m Malaysian born Indian. So, my childhood was mainly about food and flavours. This has made a huge impact on my creations. The fulfilment and satisfaction of watching my creation taking place and giving happiness to people made Silly Sugar a home-based business in 2020.

HAPPY EVER LAUGHTER PARTY From moving into our newly built home with 2 kids we loved to, of course, host parties! So much so that we brought a whole array of party items which we turned into instant party hire. The parties always consisted of a huge spread of food, desserts and decorations that were all prepped and set up by my husband and I, which meant many, many sleepless nights. Little did we know we were in for a big surprise and baby number 3 was on the way. On maternity leave, I started to dip my toes into cupcakes, which then went onto cakesicles, dessert cups, cookies, choc smashes and tarts!
