EDITOR’S NOTE
So, 2022... you aren’t starting as amazing as we all hoped you would. But I am still hanging on to the idea that it may yet change? This year, Confetti Fair turns 10. Yay for double digits! We have lots planned, and I have to admit that it has been hard to get motivated to put our plans into motion. Still, we are getting there and well, what better way to kick start than with our first Mini Mag issue for the year! Can you believe this is our 15th Mini Mag? It’s been challenging for everyone hoping to party. That feeling when you don’t know if you should go through with the party because half the guest list has tested positive with COVID is all too real! Try and keep positive, plan those parties, and be ready to alter them. It’s also been rough for those in the party industry. Over the last few months, we have experienced and seen this several times. And although we want to offer you some words of comfort, I am not sure that will be enough. Sometimes it seems that parties are an insignificant little thing. Especially when we know that many have been suffering so much lately. But now is when we need parties more than ever. We need laughter, dancing, escapism and social connection. These gatherings represent diversion in a world where everything seems so upside-down. At Confetti HQ, we will do our best to keep providing you with all the smileinducing, joy-bringing party inspiration you love. We’ll also continue to help you access the right vendors to nail your planning. We’re determined to keep to our 10-year birthday goodness plans throughout the year, and we really hope you will share this with us! It’s been a bumpy ride, but we’ll get through this. When some friends and family mentioned they missed buffet brekafasts and we that we hadn’t caught up in a while, it sparked a little idea for us. It was the perfect excuse for a very cute and on-trend theme for Easter. Dubbed ‘Sunshine Hotel’ we styled our space just like a hotel buffet restaurant – complete with cafe tables and an abundent buffet selection! What better way to catch up and do than what we do best...eat! Turning our dining and lounge room into a hotel setting was step one. The tables were dressed in gingham for a very Easter feel. We set the tables up as per you would find in a hotel dining area, but with cute little placenames too. The final touch was the addition of a cart for the various types of bread, how could one resist just not eating everything! The food, was a yummy mix of breakfast greats and a hint of brunch. Of course, we created a spread that had most of the family complaning about the amount of food they consumed. We also got to test out our awesome bain marie (thank you Kmart) – highly reccomended. Daisies were a perfect accompanyment for the gingham. The cute gingham paper plates, napkins and daisy cups from Favor Lane Party were right on point for the setup. We added some Easter daisies and sunflowers to give us some happy Springtime vibes. The DIY daisy balloon arch kit from Favor Lane Party was exactly what we needed to adorn the sun on top of the fireplace. H

Easter in Wonderland was an event concept we created to encapsulate the magic of Easter combined with whimsy and wonder of the much loved classic “Alice in Wonderland”. The Wonderland Room located at Storybook Party Co was the perfect choice of venue when hosting this Easter Tea Party. The table was set with all of the wonderful props you would find in wonderland. From vintage teapots to a multitude of bright flowers and even the Mad Hatters hat! Our table setting featured hidden nods and references to the Alice In Wonderland story with a touch of Easter theming hidden throughout. To bring the tea party together the amazing team at Spectacular Balloons created an incredible balloon garland that perfectly captured the whimsical theme. With hidden florals throughout the stunning garland and an incredible colour pallet, these balloons gave our event the most magical feel! But what is a tea party without some sweets? Luckily for the Easter Bunny and Alice there was plenty of treats to share. A delicious array of sweets including hot cross buns, cupcakes, jam tarts and biscuits were laid out for the guests to enjoy, but the real star of these treats were the amazing loaded cookies provided by GrazingWithSar. These cookies were fit for a tea party – even the Queen of Hearts would approve! H

THE PARTY STYLIST Awards ROUNDUP In 2021, Confetti Fair was honoured to team up with Party Stylists Australia and bring to life their shared vision to recognise the incredible talent and creatives of the party industry in Australia and launch the inaugural Party Stylist of the Year Awards. Over 18 months of planning went into developing the Awards. In early 2021, the Awards team brought together a well-respected judges’ panel and peer-reviewed process to ensure that finalists were fairly judged based on meeting the criteria for their category rather than popularity. We appreciate the very difficult job

Despite the difficulties many have experienced over the last two years, it is heartening to see that some amazing and unique trends have emerged despite the negative effects on the event industry. 2022 promises to be another amazing, forward year for party lovers (and professionals).
ECO IS NOT JUST ANOTHER BUZZWORD
INDENTED TO PLEASE
DREAM THEMES
This trend is just too ubiquitous to ignore! Whether you call them Roman plinths, ripple plinths or any other names, this look is now spreading to backdrops and even cakes! A look clearly inspired by interior design. You’ll never want an untextured plinth again!
Butterfly, Coco Melon and Encanto are just some of the kids’ themes emerging in 2022. Bluey and Barbie of course are still hot-to-trot. For grownups, nostalgia and travel underpin most of our faves – symptomatic of two years of lockdowns and border closures. Some themes include disco, 90s, 80s, Italy, France and tropical.
There’s been alot of talk about going green and being ‘eco’ in the last few years. However, in 2022 we can expect brands to start getting serious about this, especially in the wake of the single use plastic ban. Expect more creative textures and materials and clearly marked packaging indicating green status as consumers demand sustainable options.
HOT TO CANDLE Event planner’s love affair with candles was reignited last year with the emergence of stunning celebration candle displays. This year, thse will become even more creative with new materials and shapes. Google ‘circular candle stands’ to see more.
NEW MILESTONES With two years of missed celebrations and postponements in 2022 we’ll be playing catch up. “Do-Over Celebrations” will be a big one this year to make up for all the missed celebrations”, says Roxanne from Lovely Occasions. We’ll probably see lots of fun milestone themes such as 30(+1)”. We are definately here for it!

Amber teaches cake decorators the design knowledge they need to take their cake skills to the next level, so they can create edible art for any occasion. RETRO BUTTERCREAM Retro and vintage influenced buttercream cakes are currently building huge popularity. The bold colours and elaborate icing layers really catch your eye and spark that instant nostalgia! Often referred to as kitschy and over-embelished, the new trend has divided the cake community. Chelsea wanted a soft feminine ‘big girl’ feel with hints of the traditional mermaid teals and purples using sweet pastels. The backdrop featured the stunning large archway from Pink Bloom Design, our gorgeous scalloped arch and a gorgeous custom name by Picture Perfect Planning Perth. Our vision of cascading balloons was brought to life so beautifully by Pink Bloom with the stunning bubble balloons stealing the show! Some of our favourite backdrop elements were our pretty clam shell and the shimmering life size mermaid tail with hand cut scales. The exquisite cake by 2 Make It Sweet was the perfect centrepiece for the backdrop surrounded by perfectly matched petite desserts by Happy Ever Laughter Party . We wanted to maintain that soft dainty feel for the table scape with soft florals and natural mermaid decor paired beautifully with the elegant ghost chairs from Allegra and Grace .
