Members of Diablo Country Club have overwhelmingly approved a comprehensive renovation, update and enhancement effort that will address all areas of the Club’s campus and ensure a continued best-in-class experience for this historic organization.

The $22 million project, fully funded through capital dues rather than member assessments, includes updates to the historic Clubhouse— featuring an original structure built 140 years ago—construction of a new Fitness Center, renovations to the Tennis Pavilion and Childcare Center, the addition of new Bocce Ball courts, installation of a new indoor Golf Simulator, and several other enhancements to our food and beverage services with an expansion and update to our historic Red Horse Tavern, addition of the new Diablo Pub, and renovations to the main kitchen that focus on improved productivity, efficiency, and more culinary amenities.

“As members and owners of Diablo Country Club we all take great pride in what has been accomplished so far, and what lies ahead in our future as these projects come to fruition,” said Tim Pauling, President of Diablo Country Club. “We appreciate the larger Diablo community’s continued support, and we look forward to providing updates as we progress.”

This Master Facilities Project follows a recent $12 million golf course renovation completed. That project led to the DCC course being named the “#1 Renovation Of The Year” in 2021 by Golf Inc., and one of the “50 Best In The West” courses in GOLF Magazine’s 2022 ratings. Reviewers noted this is a point-of-pride recognition in this highly competitive region because “the western side of the United States is teeming with incredible courses.”

Diablo’s comprehensive $34 million capital improvement project means that “every part of our Club campus will be touched as part of these enhancements,” said Bruce Pruitt, Diablo Country Club’s General Manager & COO.

The November approval means work on the second phase will commence almost immediately because DCC leaders proceeded with necessary planning in anticipation of the measure passing. The Club’s golf course, swimming pool and tennis courts will be available to members and guests during project construction. Culinary services will continue through innovations including “Red Horse Too,” a portable kitchen on wheels, “DiabloDash”—a food delivery service available through the DCC app—and expanded service at the existing Snack Shack. Temporary Bocce Ball courts will also be set up during the renovation effort. The full Master Facilities Project is anticipated to be completed in early 2024.

“The thoughtful enhancements and updates to our historic Clubhouse, renovations to our dining areas, the addition of new facilities, and other touches mean Diablo will continue to be a complete, casually refined lifestyle experience for the entire family,” Pruitt stated. “Adding in the two recent recognitions of our golf course enhancement is just a preview of the quality you can expect from these new Diablo amenities.”

These updates and renovations will also parallel a multi-milliondollar Recycled Water project undertaken by Club leadership. An initial engineering and design research study will determine the parameters, budget and timeline for construction of a system that will provide DCC with a sustainable water system for their golf course irrigation.

About Diablo Country Club

Founded in 1914 as California’s first family club by Bay Area visionary Robert Noble Burgess, Diablo was created as “A Community with an Ideal” founded on the values of friendship, camaraderie, active lifestyles and authentic connection. The Club gained early national prominence with an original golf course design created by the future architects of Pebble Beach and Olympic Club, Jack Neville and William Watson. As the world’s only course co-designed by Neville and Watson, Diablo has held to this tradition of golfing excellence ever since, hosting Professional Exhibitions, the Northern California Open Championship, USGA Amateur Championship qualifiers, and US Senior Open qualifiers. Diablo has also evolved as a year-round complete lifestyle club for area residents and their families, featuring well-regarded racquet sports facilities, outstanding culinary and wine experiences, fitness and aquatics programs, and activities for youth and adults.
