FROM THE EDITOR Hello October! You came upon us so fast and although we are a bit shocked you are welcome and we are excited! October means heat, fun in the sun, the start of public holidays (which we haven't had for a while), bright colours, lots of birthdays and fun celebrations. Before we know it Santa will be here (gulp). Another thing October brings us is... Halloween. To be honest over the years, I have not been a big fan but we have seen it slowly grow in Australia. Though still not as extravagant as the US celebrations, I do think we are definitely getting in the mood for it and the celebrations are getting bigger and better. At Confetti HQ what started as a simple call out for a Halloween shoot to bring our Villains mood-board vision to life, ended up as five styled shoots (across Australia and also the US) and a special edition Halloween mini mag. So here we are, excited to bring you five amazing styled shoots and a DIY in this special edition of our mini mag. What I love most about all these shoots is how they are all different and unique. Also, the themes for each shoot are not just for Halloween, they can be used for any kind of event. I feel like I have definitely embraced, and am in love with Halloween this year, thanks to all our amazing vendors who helped create the magic you are about to see! Enjoy! We hope our mini mag inspires your upcoming Halloween celebrations!

"Royalty, nobility, gentry, and, how quaint, even the rabble. I must say, I really felt quite distressed in not receiving an invitation." – Maleficent WE RE-IMAGINE MALEFICENT AND OTHER FAVOURITE VILLAINS CELEBRATING HALLOWEEN IN TRUE EVIL STYLE. THIS IS ONE PARTY SHE DOESN'T NEED AN INVITATION TO ATTEND.

The VILLAINs' Dinner Part y THE BIGGEST AND BADDEST VILLAINS IN THE WORLD HAVE GATHERED FOR THEIR ANNUAL ALL HALLOW'S EVE FEAST. THIS YEAR, MALEFICENT IS HOSTING!

When Maleficent throws a Halloween bash, and decides to invite her baddest buddies, you just know it is going to be a positively decadent and dark affair! Well, that was the inspiration for our very grown up Halloween dinner party. Maleficent's Halloween dinner party was held in a ramshackle shed, and featured a grazing table style setting, with lots of elements perfectly suited for the big narcissistic personalities invited. Upon being seated, guests were welcomed with rich black forest mini cakes, adorned with a topper featuring their own silhouette. Red wine was poured in personalised glasses and flowed freely. Everyone was impeccably attired for the affair, with guests sporting luxurious and unique headpieces, including breath-taking crowns by Danica Erard Millinery. It's dressing up, grown up style! Our make up artist Samantha did an excellent

job of creating a look for our models which was reminiscent of each villain invited. The villains' dinner party guests feasted on a lavish assortment of lamb rack, cured meats and fruits provided by Tania of Pan e Antipasti. Decayed flowers and withered branches decorated the table, together with a myriad of candles to light the dark space. Large, shiny candelabras provided a nice contrast. Velvet placemats, frayed, created a grungy yet luxe touch. Of course, it was only expected that our guests would be posing for a few selfies, with many first checking the magic mirror on how fair they were. A mesh backdrop with custom balloons also provided a suitable spot for photos. When dinner was over, everybody indulged in a myriad of rich desserts, including cake and toffee apples.

BLACK CATS AND BATS CUTE CATS AND CREEPY BATS, MIXED WITH OF PURPLES AND A SPLASH OF NEON GREEN. THERE IS SO MUCH TO LOVE ABOUT THIS OUTDOOR HALLOWEEN PARTY! Halloween just isn't complete without the standard spooky creatures. When Sophie of Sweet Sienna Event Styling came along to style this cute party for us, we all new exactly what we wanted for Halloween. And whilst bats and black cats may have a reputation for being nocturnal and predatory, on this sunny day, they came out to play in cute style! The focal point of this party was a creepy, decrepit old door, laid casually against an old timber wall. Folded paper bats, placed on the door created a very realistic 3D effect of a colony of bats waiting to swoop. The door was beautifully juxtaposed against shiny black cake stands, candelabras and vintage black french style furniture. An old lace tablecloth finished off the look.

19

Nearby, an old skeleton sat waiting on a similarly styled chair, watching over our little guests dig into their treats. Beautiful bright and neon purple and green, with a hint of orange, provided the perfect contrast for the black. A purple cake with a beautiful cat silhouette and orange cupcakes depicting a spooky sunset were standout in terms of colour. Cake pops and cookies rounded out the dessert selection. Glitter encrusted pumpkins, orange tableware and two large neon green honeycombs also added to the colour pops. Our gorgeous guests sat down to the prettiest themed favour bags by Party Bag Lady in both purple and orange. In addition, each guest had either a bat mask or cat ears and tail to wear and help them get into the Halloween mood.

A Rustic Halloween MAKE LIKE A TRADITIONAL NORTHERN HALLOWEEN WITH THIS PRETTY AND RUSTIC COUNTRY CELEBRATION! BY ALEXANDRA MOALA. Anyone who knows Ali, from Stylish Soirees Perth, knows that she loves a good party. Whether she's going to one, having one or setting one up for a client - she's happy! Halloween has been her exception though. Christmas or Easter are her faves any day but scary, plastic orange pumpkins and knocking on strangers' doors in costume just doesn't appeal to her one bit! Ali's inspiration for this Halloween party was to make it light and pretty rather than ghoulish and creepy. Halloween is traditionally is at the start of colder months but in Australia we are heading into Spring. Stylish SoirĂŠes Perth, together with Favor Lane Party Boutique chose a lighter colour palette of white, grey, peach and gold to reflect this. They wanted a rustic feel to this party so when Sandra, from Swan Street Vineyard offered her venue -The Old Shed, they knew it was the perfect location! The beautiful Old Shed with the 10m long jarrah table and the huge wagon wheel centrepieces were features all on their own. The pale, corrugated tin of the shed was a magnificent backdrop for the large balloon garland at the entrance to the party. The amazing, giant BOO light letters from Vintage Letters framed the entrance which carried through the rustic Halloween theme and made for cute peekaboo photos! Pumpkins go hand in hand with Halloween so Ali painted various sized pumpkins in shades of white, peach, grey and gold. These were used in the gorgeous entrance display of painted milk crates, wooden crates, lanterns, pampas grass and vases filled with peach and white flowers. Shelley from Favor Lane Party Boutique provided all the stunning, perfectly matched balloons and party 25

ware. The peach, white, grey and gold can be seen in all the gorgeous plates, cups, cutlery, napkins and balloons! Her fantastic Halloween balloon stock even has foil bat balloons and script 'Boo' balloons! Lisa from Cakes 2 Celebrate made the beautiful Halloween themed desserts. Ghost and hand molded pumpkin cupcakes, ghost cookies, pumpkin cake pops, spider web donuts and the beautiful 3 tiered white cake with flowers, were the centrepiece for the wine barrel dessert table. Emily from XOXO Design created the divine laser cut gold acrylic cake topper which said 'If you got it haunt it'. Flowers by Pep created the gorgeous floral pumpkins for the table setting and the dessert table. Hand carved pumpkins were then painted and filled with beautiful blooms in tones of white and peach. The two wagon wheels were decorated with large pampas grass stems, roses, baby's breath and grey tones of eucalyptus. The darling little models wore farm style overalls, pinafore dresses and shorts. Thanks to Secret Garden Designs, the boys wore fantastic grey t-shirts that had printed hashtag Halloween messages. The talented Viktoria Saar captured this shoot perfectly and embraced the natural light with her amazing photography. Her attention to detail and artistic eye is evident in each beautiful moment. This rustic party has the traditional elements associated with Halloween - pumpkins, lollies, sweets, ghosts and spiders but displays a different, softer side to Halloween for those who want to 'creep it pretty'!

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL THIS FUN THEME JUST KEEPS ON POPPING UP! STEP RIGHT UP TO THIS AMAZING CREEPY CARNIVAL PARTY! BY ASH WOOD I was really flattered when asked to style this shoot. If you follow me on Monochromemum it’s no secret that I love all things black and white so this was the perfect theme for me.

could. Styla Prints & Design created some amazing soda bottle labels, popcorn labels and straw flags. They looked exactly like the Zebras featured on the cupcakes by The Sweet Society Co.

Initially, the look I was going with was Tim Burton’s BeetleJuice. I’m always looking for inspiration for my events and I was in the process of putting my mood board together, with The Greatest Showman movie in the background. It’s played daily in our house as my daughter Sienna loves it. I had also just came across Harlow’s Carnival party by amazing mama Alicia from Hudson & Harlow, so the Halloween Carnival theme was born!

I also sanded a pumpkin, painted it black and placed googly eyed cookies from SweetP Cakes and Cookies on top of it, and beside it, little carnival animals with black and white stripe party hats just like Sienna’s. She was dressed from head to toe in Hubble and Duke and I added some black pom poms to her top to give the illusion of a cute girl clown.

I loved getting caught up in every little detail, from the custom ticket roll I had created, to lifting all the carnival animals from (my son) Rocky’s nursery at the last minute on my way to the photo shoot, and the gorgeous custom ‘Halloween Carnival’ bags from Small Print Design. What I love most about this theme, is that it is perfect for all ages, and with a few tweaks can literally be a festival inspired birthday theme. We hand painted the candy cart from 4Kidsnmore to suit the carnival theme and colours. It's a kid size cart, so really is perfect for children’s parties. The candy cart, the ‘Step Right Up’ signage from Very Flamingo, and custom cake topper from Molossi Designs were a perfect match. Suzanne (from Molossi Designs) produces amazing work, even with the briefest of details. I used mainly black, white and greys with an accent of silver and gold. I tried to add as much detail as I

Roxanne from Lovely Occasions made a stunning monochrome and marble garland and we had a few jumbo balloons around the set-up which really added to the overall theme. I also created a hanging balloon feature using two hula hoops with balloons in the middle and we had this hanging from the ceiling to create the illusion of a carnival. I had an amazing dream team that I worked with on this party and the quality of their work literally speaks for itself – from a Big Top Tent carnival cake (Bakeistry) and Big Top Tent cookies from my gorgeous friend Vanessa from Cookies & Crumbs Melbourne, to stunning Zebra framed cupcakes and soda pop labels. Hours of Pinterest searching and daydreaming, sending screen shoots and mood boards to these talented ladies and they literally brought my vision to life. All of this was captured by the very talented Karlin from Karlin Shot It. Thanks again to all involved...let's do it again! 30

Ghoul-Friends Gathering A FAB AND GLAM FILLED HALLOWEEN DINNER PARTY, WITH A COLOUR PALETTE YOU'LL BE WANTING TO USE AGAIN! BY NATALIE MAYHEW OF FERN AND MAPLE EVENTS. Every year I host a Halloween dinner party for my best “ghoul” friends. Last year it was a dark, black and gold Masquerade. This year I decided to go for a softer, more whimsical Halloween color palette. The pink, purple, blue, mint color palette was inspired by a set of candles from Ember Candle Co. Once I saw them I couldn’t get them out of my head, I had to have them. They have been in my studio for months, (not so) patiently waiting for Halloween to arrive! Once I had decided on this key element I started to pull together the rest of the party décor. I’m loving how the 80’s trends are making a strong resurgence. Pairing this pretty palette with black, silver and geometrics gives a strong 80’s vibe. The Dessert Table I sprayed a grid wall lavender to give the backdrop geometric grid lines. I also used this to hang a pretty tassel banner. Glam Fete made a custom tassel banner to match the color scheme. At each side of the backdrop I hung geometric light fittings painted mint. To the side of these, large pastel pink balloons with matching tassels and a Trick or Treat decal applied to them. Every party needs a pop of fun right…which side do you play for? Trick or treat?

there are some beautiful pastel pumpkins available right now. Small geometric skulls on modern acrylic stands tie in the pastel skull theme to the dessert table. I couldn’t go past a soft, frilly cake from Confection Deception as the focal point of the dessert table. I love how it looks almost ghostly. I asked my fabulous friends at Atomic Kraftworks to custom cut a 3D skull for me, I love how it turned out and used it as a cake topper. The Table Setting Down the center of the double size table I used a pale grey chiffon runner to soften the edges of my “coffin” centrepiece. I had a lot of fun creating this, it was originally a terrarium! I sprayed the bottom half grey stone creating a modern geometric and glass coffin centrepiece. I then filled the coffin with delicious and ever so pretty, pastel sweets and ghostly cookies. At one end I sat a pink geometric skull on a small mint cupcake stand.

At the front I placed a fabulous genuine grave marker. This was such a great find at a vintage store here in Portland. It originally comes from Salem (Oregon, but hey…Salem!) and I won’t lie I bought several to use for this year’s front of house On the table I used a mix of faux and real pumpkins, graveyard. 37

To each side of the coffin I used the original inspiration for this party, the pastel candles. Placing them on candlesticks of varying heights. I used clear glass to fit with the glass and acrylic elements in other areas of the party. I also used glass skull candy holders as vases filled them with BRAINS! (well Celosia Cristata, but it looks like brains, right?!) The Place Setting I couldn’t believe my luck when I spotted the unique coffin shaped plates from Daydream Society….with skulls! They were perfect for this setting. I paired them with a pink plate that pops against the black and a fun, unexpected mint stripe. These are placed on top of a gothic, glam placemat with a surprise skull in the center. I then added matching black cutlery, wine glass, shot glass and cup for water. I used a mint acrylic drink stirrer for a pop of color. Then finally, I folded the napkin into a coffin shape, a fun detail to tie the setting into the centerpiece. The table is set, pull up a “ghost” chair and dig up the coffin for a treat! 38
