Early Life

Jerome Allen Seinfeld, who would later become Jerry Seinfeld, was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He was born on April 29, 1954. Jerry Seinfeld’s parents are Betty Hosni and Kalman Seinfeld. His father Kalman was Hungarian-Jewish, and his mother was Jewish as well. Betty was originally from Aleppo, Syria. Due to the Ottoman Empire’s occupation of Syria, the family had to declare themselves Turkish when they immigrated in 1917. Kalman was well-known for the jokes he collected during WWII.

Jerry Seinfeld attended Massapequa High School and grew up in Massapequa, New York. He later became a volunteer for Israel’s Kibbutz Sa’ar when he was 16 years old. He attended the State University of New York at Oswego after graduating. He transferred to Queens College, the City University of New York, in his second year. He earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre and communications from the university.

Seinfeld was already paying rent as a kid. He also liked to listen to Bill Cosby albums. While following his father around, Seinfeld would scribble down jokes. He used to grab any opportunity to make people laugh. Seinfeld often messed around with his classmates because he enjoyed seeing people laugh at his jokes.

He didn’t go to any graduation parties after graduating from college. Instead, he went to a local comedy club to celebrate, where he made people laugh.

During his time at school, he gradually developed an interest in stand-up comedy. While still attending Queens College, he made a few appearances at Budd Friedman’s Improv Club during open-mic nights.

Then, after graduating, Seinfeld attempted to attend an open-mic night at New York City’s Catch a Rising Star. This earned him a spot in an HBO special with Rodney Dangerfield. He also had a small recurring role in Benson, a sitcom.

Career: How Did Jerry Seinfeld Get So Rich?

After making a brief appearance in college performances, Seinfeld’s passion for stand-up comedy intensified. He performed at open-mic nights at Budd Friedman’s Improv Club while being a student at Queens College. He gave an open-mic audition at Catch a Rising Star in New York City after graduating in 1976, and as a result landed a part in a Rodney Dangerfield HBO special. In a small recurring role on Benson in 1980, he played Frankie, a postal delivery kid with hilarious routines that nobody wanted to hear. Seinfeld was abruptly fired as a result of a disagreement over the aesthetic direction of the programme.

When he showed up for a read-through session for an episode and discovered there was no script for him, according to Seinfeld, that is when he learned he had been fired. He gave a stand-up performance on An Evening at the Improv in January 1981. Seinfeld first appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in May 1981. After impressing Carson and the crowd, he went on to appear

frequently on that programme as well as others, such as Late Night with David Letterman. His first live HBO broadcast, Stand-Up Confidential, lasted an hour and aired on September 5, 1987.

He co-created the Seinfeld Chronicles with Larry David in 1988; it was later renamed Seindeld and became the most watched sitcom on American television. Jerry Seinfeld claims that the sitcom “The Abbott and Costello Show” had an influence on the programme.

Jerry returned to New York City and pursued his passion for stand-up comedy once the show Seinfeld was successfully finished.

Jerry Seinfeld made an appearance in two webisodes intended to promote American Express in 2004,

The Associated Press reported in August 2008 that Jerry Seinfeld would be the face of Microsoft’s $300 million advertising campaign for Windows Vista. The adverts, which were meant to generate excitement for Windows in support of the upcoming “I’m a PC” commercials, started running in mid-September 2008. After three episodes, the Seinfeld ads were pulled from television; instead, Microsoft decided to keep running its “I’m a PC” commercials and post lengthier versions of the Seinfeld spots on its website.

Seinfeld made several appearances in advertising for the Greater Building Society in Australia. The Greater Building Society is a building society with locations in New South Wales and southeast Queensland.

Being the third time Seinfeld had appeared in a television commercial, his appearance in these advertisements was widely reported and was regarded as a victory for society.

Seinfeld began a YouTube series in 2012 called ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee’ in which he would pick up a different comedian or celebrity every episode and drive them to a coffee shop for a chat. The programme was first broadcast on the streaming platform Crackle before being purchased by Netflix. Season seven’s most famous guest was former President Barack Obama.

Seinfeld said in a farewell video for the Obamas before the President left office, “That knocking on the window of the Oval Office. I believe that was the pinnacle of my entire existence.”

Personal Life:

Seinfeld met Jessica Sklar, a public relations manager for Tommy Hilfiger, in August 1998 at a Reebok Sports Club. She and her then-husband, theatre producer and scion of a theater-owning family, Eric Nederlander, had just returned from a three-week honeymoon in Italy.

Two months later she got divorced and continued dating Seinfeld. Jessica Sklar became Jerry Seinfeld’s wife on December 25, 1999. She has been Jerry Seinfeld’s first wife and also current wife until now. Shepherd Kellen, 16, Julian Kal, 19, are the couple’s sons and Sascha Seinfeld (21) is Jerry Seinfeld’s daughter.

Meet the Man at the Helm

Nellikuru Innovations:

An Innovative endeavour which fosters Research and

Development

in Green initiatives in the Iron and Steel Manufacturing Industry

Business Connect has been a great admirer of ventures with unique business models, breakthrough solutions, and impeccable leaders behind them. Here again, we are back with another top-notch tale of a rising brand in the steel industry, Nellikuru Innovations Private Limited, the first startup company in the field of research and development in iron and steel making in India under the new ‘Make in India Programme’.

When it comes to large organizations, there are numerous companies engaged in the research and development of steel plants. But for startups, very few companies are actively working on R&D. The sheer endeavour behind the inception of Nellikuru Innovations in 2016 was to inspire true inventors in this field to commercialize their innovations for the benefit of industry and mankind. Nellikuru Innovations addresses century-old problems existing in the industry, like the liquid hot metal insulation system, and provides a streamlined solution to maximize efficiency.

Sabukutty N Dominic is the MD of Nellikuru Innovations and has been perceived as a seasoned entrepreneur with a demonstrated history of working in the steel industry. Through the course of voyage through the iron and steel industry, Sabu went through the different stages of a steel plant and had the opportunity to study different units, from the beginning of the process to the end result. His exposure and experience enabled him to develop an in-depth understanding of the industry and resolve trending issues.

Product Portfolio

Nellikuru Innovations offers a cost-effective solution to the Iron and Steel industries to improve Green ratings in the existing units. Currently, they work to reduce heat loss and CO2 emissions, and utilize the recovered heat to increase yield.

Here are- some questions answered about some Nellikuru products.

Q: In order to reduce the heat loss of liquid hot metal from Blast Furnaces to the Steel Converters, bigger integrated steel plants switched over to Torpedo Ladles from Open Top Ladles. It is the same across the globe. Can we reduce further heat loss in Torpedo Ladles or do you have any solutions to achieve the same?

A: To a certain extent, Torpedo ladles reduces the heat loss compared to open top ladles. However, there is direct heat loss through its mouth. Since there is hardly any metal jam formation in normal operation due to higher heat content, not many R&D projects have worked to reduce the heat loss from the Torpedo ladles. In higher capacity furnaces, a Torpedo ladle of 350-400MT capacity takes around 45-60 minutes to fill one ladle. Since there is turbulence in the metal surface while filling the ladles, the heat loss is more during this time.

Our product insulates the liquid metal from the bottom of the ladles, since we add our high temperature insulation material to the liquid metal when the ladles have around 7-10% metal in it. It completely insulates the metal from the starting point and reduces the heat loss.

36 www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 5 Special Edition May 2023 | INDIA

Q: How can Nellikuru help steel plants to achieve lower emissions?. Do you have any technology to reduce the emissions in Iron and Steel Plants.

A: Emissions are a part and parcel of any steel plant. Clean steel plants are good in capturing the emissions resulting as a result of metallurgical process. For example, the liquid metal comes out of a Blast Furnace or COREX at 1500 degree C, will have some dissolved elements. It can’t retain the same in the liquid metal, when the temperature drops to around 1400 degree C. Take the graphite particles(carbon) for examples, which comes out of liquid metal as a result of corresponding drop in temperature and is visible to the naked eyes and can be seen as shining particles all around the plant. Modern steel plants use higher capacity suction units to capture the same. However, 100% capturing is not possible in any steel plant.

As the old adage says, it is better to use footwear rather than to carpet the entire road. Our higher temperature insulation material traps the emissions from the metal at its surface and gives a clear view of the metal level in the ladles. It reduces the graphite emissions from liquid hot metal. Moreover, it also reduces the temperature drop as a result of proper insulation, the emissions will also be less corresponding to the gain in temperature. The actual temperature gain depend on the plant lay out and holding time of the metal.

Q: Will it be economical to the steel plants of huge capacities (say, 10 million tons pa) to cover the entire iron produced with your product?

A: Our product is an Iron based material and the additional steel produced from the iron present in our compound make it absolutely NIL COST to the user along with CO2 reduction. So yes, it is economical to use our product in huge steel plants.

Q: Have you tried your product in Torpedo Ladles in any bigger Steel Plants in India?.

A: Yes. We got the opportunity to conduct the trials in JSW Tornagallu Plant. As a policy, JSW group is open to new ideas and looking for all the opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions and thrive for a greener steel plant. They collaborate with startups and encourage them to come up with more solutions to achieve the GreeCo guidelines. We take this opportunity to thank their Iron making team to take the challenge to reduce the heat loss in Torpedo Ladles. We are the first company in the world to successfully develop Torpedo Insulation material for liquid Hot Metal and it is successfully demonstrated in JSW.

Q: Is your product is helping steel plants to achieve the Green Ratings guidelines of CII?

A: Of course. There are various R&D initiatives across the globe to reduce the CO2 emissions in Iron and Steel Industries. Hydrogen steel making is one such promising technologies. So far, it is not commercially popular.

However, in the existing steel plants, small incremental improvements to reduce the heat loss by even 10 degree C are in line with Green initiatives of CII.

Q: If so, have you approached other steel plants to use your product as it reduces the CO2 emissions, though it is a smaller amount?

So far no. We will approach other steel plants soon.

Q. Can it be used in Open Top ladles of liquid Hot Metal?

A: Yes. In open top ladles, there will be yield improvement too. There will not be any ladle jamming at all. Ladle can be used to its full capacity throughout its campaign. It will also reduce the ladle repair as there will not be any ring jam in the ladle.

Unique Value Propositions

Our product traps the graphite particles and other emissions that are released from the liquid hot metal, and thus help reduce pollution. The “KISH” formation, which is made up of fine metallic iron particles mixed with graphite and other foreign particles like sand transported by the runners and the irreversible remains traditional ladle covering compounds, is lessened. It further enhances the working environment.

The product almost eliminates the fugitive emissions from the ladle. It directly improves the metal yield as well by retaining a part of the carbon dissolved in the metal as a result of the lesser drop in temperature. The fugitive emissions from the ladle are virtually eliminated. By keeping some of the carbon dissolved in the metal after the temperature drops, also directly increases the metal yield.

Industry Evolutions Over the Years

The traditional steel making process, in general, follows a fixed route, and is apprehensive to change. While alternate routes of steel making are slowly picking up pace, there is tremendous potential to increase the efficiency of the current traditional routes as well. With a focus on using less rich ores and reducing the carbon footprint being the need of the hour, steelmaking too must keep up with the global demands and become more adept.

Nellikuru’s Accomplishments and Future Outlook

When asked what noteworthy accomplishments his business had made, Sabu said that they are most proud of being recognised for their innovative concept and creative approach. What could be more rewarding than obtaining profitable business deals through wordof-mouth advertising that amply demonstrates the company’s entry into the market.

For the future, Nellikuru Innovations plans to reach out to new market segments and approach new customers.

Summer Top 10 Life Hacks to make your Super Cool!

Summer is here and we all want to make the most of it. Whether you’re planning a vacation, a staycation, or just enjoying the sunny days, here are some life hacks that will help you save time, money, and hassle.

• Freeze your drinks in advance: If you’re going to the beach, the park, or anywhere else where you need to keep your drinks cold, freeze them the night before and pack them in your cooler. They will act as ice packs and keep your other food items fresh. Plus, you’ll have a refreshing drink ready when you need it.

• Use dryer sheets to repel mosquitoes: Mosquitoes are annoying and can ruin your outdoor fun. But you don’t need to buy expensive repellents or deal with sticky sprays. Just rub a dryer sheet on your exposed skin and clothes and the mosquitoes will stay away. The scent of the dryer sheet masks your natural body odor and confuses the insects.

• Make your own ice cream sandwiches: Ice cream sandwiches are a delicious treat for summer, but they can be pricey and unhealthy. Why not make your own with your favorite cookies and ice cream? Just scoop some ice cream on a cookie, press another cookie on top, and wrap it in plastic wrap. Freeze them for a few hours and enjoy!

• Use a muffin tin to serve condiments: If you’re having a barbecue or a picnic, you don’t need to bring multiple bottles and jars of condiments. Just use a muffin tin and fill each cup with ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, salsa, or whatever else you like. Carrying, cleaning, and using it are all simple processes.

• Use aloe vera ice cubes to soothe sunburns: Sunburns are painful and can damage your skin. But you can soothe them with a simple homemade remedy: aloe vera ice cubes. Just fill an ice cube tray with pure aloe vera gel and freeze it. Whenever you have a sunburn, just rub an ice cube on the affected area and feel the relief.

• Use baking soda to remove sand from your skin: Sand can be fun to play with, but not so fun to get rid of. It can stick to your skin and clothes and make a mess in your car or home. But there’s an easy way to remove it: baking soda. Just sprinkle some baking soda on your skin and rub it gently. The baking soda will absorb the moisture and make the sand fall off.

• Covert Container:

When you’re at the beach, make a concealed container to lessen the likelihood of items being taken. Simply twist the cap of your old shampoo bottle until it pops straight off. Clean it out and make a small hole in the top to store your valuables. You can now snap the top back on, and your items are completely hidden. Anyone who sees this will mistake it for a shampoo bottle, and nobody wants to steal your shampoo.

• Use baby powder to remove oil stains from clothes: Oil stains can be tricky to get rid of, especially if they’re on delicate fabrics or bright colors. But you don’t need to throw away your clothes or use harsh detergents. Just use baby powder. Sprinkle some baby powder on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Then brush it off and wash your clothes as usual.

• Plant Caretaker:

Before you leave for vacation, tend to your nursery rather than your children! Fill the bottle with water and place it upside down in a potted plant after drilling a hole in the cap or cork. The makeshift caretaker will provide a regular flow of water to the thirsty roots of the plant.

• Use coffee filters to keep your glasses from fogging up: Glasses can fog up easily in humid weather or when you wear a mask. But you don’t need to buy anti-fog sprays or wipes. Just use coffee filters. Cut out a small piece of coffee filter and place it inside your mask or under your glasses’ nose bridge. The coffee filter will absorb the moisture and prevent fogging.

different healthcare and fitness products and services based on their specialty and brand, giving users the unprecedented advantage of choosing from the best service providers and products that meet their budget and location. Our primary focus is to improve the user experience in healthcare by providing affordable healthcare services

One of the primary ways in which to Proceed.Fit improves the patient experience through its appointment scheduling system. Many healthcare providers still rely on manual processes or outdated manual ways of scheduling appointments, which can be frustrating and time-consuming for patients. Proceed.Fit’s platform offers an intuitive, userfriendly interface that allows patients to quickly and easily schedule appointments with their healthcare providers. This not only saves time for patients but also reduces the workload for healthcare providers, allowing them to focus on providing quality care to their patients.

CLIMBING THE LADDER

During our conversation with Mr. Vinod, one of the cofounders of this start-up, he shared with us the genesis of their idea. “In late 2021, when the world was grappling with the pandemic, my wife was diagnosed with fibroids and the doctor suggested surgery. However, due to the complications involved, we wanted to seek opinions from multiple other medical experts before proceeding. But, scheduling appointments and the risk of exposure to the virus made it challenging. Seeking multiple opinions would also have incurred significant consultation fees.

As we faced this dilemma, I imagined a healthcare platform that could simplify the process of seeking medical opinions. As I discussed this with Mr. Ajeet, we envisioned a system where patients could enter their medical history and test results and receive feedback from certified physicians. With this information, patients could make informed decisions about their treatment, Taking into account factors such as hospital location and cost.”

To bring their idea to life, both co-founders made it a mission to create Proceed.Fit, is a comprehensive healthcare platform that would enable patients to access multiple medical opinions without leaving their homes. Through our platform, patients could input their medical information and receive feedback from certified physicians, helping them to make informed decisions about their healthcare.

“As we developed Proceed.Fit, we were driven by our desire to provide patients with the tools they need to take control of their health. We believe that by enabling patients to access multiple medical opinions, Tele-Health, Digital Health records on fingertips, Nutrition and fitness consultation, we can help to improve outcomes and enhance the quality of care for patients everywhere.”-Mr. Ajeet Singh.

LEADING WITH R&D

“Research and development (R&D) is essential for the growth of a company, especially in the healthcare platform,” says Mr. Ajeet. He also listed out some key points highlighting the importance of R&D:

Innovation: Innovation is crucial in the healthcare industry, where new technologies and treatments are constantly being developed. R&D enables healthcare platforms to stay updated with the latest advancements and offer innovative solutions to their customers.

By utilizing cutting-edge technology, we have developed two state-of-the-art tools: a symptom checker called “ProSympto” and a diet planner named “Pro-Dieto”.

“Pro-Sympto” is designed to assist patients in identifying possible diseases based on their visible symptoms. This will enable our users to take necessary precautions and seek medical assistance before their condition worsens.

Competitive Advantage: In a highly competitive industry like healthcare, R&D can provide a significant competitive advantage. By developing innovative solutions, healthcare platforms can differentiate themselves from their competitors and attract more customers. R&D can also help platforms stay ahead of regulatory changes, compliance requirements, and emerging trends, ensuring they remain competitive in the long run.

Improved Customer Experience: Healthcare platforms are focused on delivering exceptional customer experiences. R&D can help platforms understand their customers’ needs and pain points better, enabling them to develop solutions that meet those needs. By investing in R&D, platforms can develop new features, services, and products that make it easier for customers to access healthcare services and receive the care they need.

Cost Savings: R&D can also help healthcare platforms save costs in the long run. By developing new technologies and processes, platforms can streamline their operations, reduce waste, and improve efficiency. R&D can also help platforms identify cost-saving opportunities, such as using low-cost materials or outsourcing non-core functions.

Regulatory Compliance: The healthcare industry is highly regulated, and healthcare marketplace platforms must comply with numerous regulations and standards. R&D can help platforms stay up to date with regulatory changes and compliance requirements, ensuring they operate safely and ethically. By investing in R&D, platforms can develop solutions that meet regulatory requirements, such as data privacy, security, and interoperability.

A TOKEN OF ADVICE

Before signing off, the visionary shared a few words by giving some valuable advice to young minds by saying, “Entrepreneurship is a challenging but rewarding journey. It requires a significant amount of hard work, dedication, and resilience to start and grow a successful business.
