EARLY LIFE

Thiel was born on October 11, 1967, to Susanne and Klaus Friedrich Thiel in Frankfurt am Main, West Germany. When Peter was a year old, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where his father worked as a chemical engineer. Thiel and his younger brother, Patrick Michael Thiel, were raised as nomads because of Klaus’ subsequent employment with several mining firms. Thiel’s father did not become a citizen of the United States, but his mother did. The Thiels resided in South Africa and South West Africa until making Foster City, California, their permanent home in 1977. (modernday Namibia). Peter shifted to different elementary schools seven times. In Swakopmund, he attended a harsh school where children had to wear uniforms and were subjected to physical punishment like having their hands smacked with rulers. This experience gave him a dislike of regimentation and uniformity, which eventually manifested itself in his support for individualism and libertarianism. He attended Stanford University to study philosophy. Thiel co-founded The Stanford Review, a conservative and libertarian publication, in 1987. Thiel was The Stanford Review’s first editorin-chief and held that position up until 1989, when he received his Bachelor of Arts.

Thiel has maintained this connection throughout time by holding events at his home, making donations to the newspaper, conferring with the senior editorial staff on a regular basis, and placing graduates in internships or employment within his network. In 1992, Thiel graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School.

CAREER:

Thiel worked as a law clerk for Judge James Larry Edmondson of the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit after earning his law degree from Stanford. Thiel then worked in New York for Sullivan & Cromwell as a securities attorney. After seven months and three days, he resigned from the law firm, alleging a dearth of transcendent value in his output. He then accepted a position at Credit Suisse as a derivatives trader for currency options. He began working with them in 1993 while simultaneously writing speeches for William B1qennett, a former secretary of education for the United States. He left California in 1996 in search of a more fulfilling career. When Thiel eventually made it back to the Bay Area, he saw that the dot-com boom had been sparked by the creation of the internet and the personal computer. He raised $1 million for the founding of Thiel Capital Management with the help of friends and family, starting his venture capital career. When his friend Luke Nosek’s web-based calendar venture failed, he lost $100,000, which was a setback for him early on. When Max Levchin, a friend of Nosek, shared his concept for a business involving cryptography with him, his luck changed, and in 1998 they launched their first firm, Confinity.

PAYPAL:

Thiel thought they could create software using Confinity to fill a gap in online payment processing. Although new payment choices for consumers were made available by the usage of credit cards and growing ATM networks, not all retailers have

the equipment required to accept credit cards. Customers must pay exact cash or checks as a result. By encrypting data on digital devices, Thiel aimed to develop a kind of digital wallet for consumers’ ease and security, and in 1999 Confinity introduced PayPal. PayPal pledged to expand the options for handling money. According to Thiel, PayPal’s goal is to free individuals from the depreciation of their currencies’ value brought on by inflation. When PayPal debuted at a press conference in 1999, officials from Nokia and Deutsche Bank donated Thiel $3 million in venture investment via PayPal on their PalmPilots. PayPal then expanded through mergers in 2000 with Elon Musk’s online financial services firm X.com and with Pixo, a startup specialising in mobile commerce. These mergers allowed PayPal to enter the wireless phone market and change it into a safer and more user-friendly tool by allowing users to transfer money using a free online registration and email rather than exchanging bank account information.

FACEBOOK

Thiel joined Facebook’s board of directors and made a $500,000 angel investment in the firm in August 2004 for a 10.2% share. With this initial outside investment, Facebook was valued at $4.9 million. Thiel did not participate actively in Facebook’s operations while serving on the board. Zuckerberg credited Thiel with helping him schedule Facebook’s 2007 Series D investment round, which closed before the 2008 financial crisis, saying that he helped with timing the successive rounds of funding.

Thiel married in October 2017 to his long-time partner Matt Danzeisen in Vienna, Austria. Danzeisen is works as a portfolio manager at Thiel Capital

BACKGROUND

J. R. D. Tata launched the airline in 1932 under the name Tata Airlines. Tata himself piloted the company’s first single-engine de Havilland Puss Moth, transporting air mail from Karachi’s Drigh Road Airfield to Bombay’s Juhu aerodrome and eventually continuing to Madras (currently Chennai). It changed its name to Air India after the Second World War and became a public limited business. It became the first Asian airline to add a jet to its fleet when

it received its first Boeing 707, Gauri Shankar, on February 21, 1960. There were attempts to privatise Air India in 2000–2001, and following its merger with Indian Airlines in 2006, it started to lose money. A second attempt at privatisation was made in 2017, and it was successful, with Tata regaining ownership of the airline and any related properties in 2022.

FUTURE

The airline hopes to achieve a 30% market share by 2027 as part of its programme. The airline has signed lease contracts for 30 brand-new aircraft as per its transformation plan named Vihaan.AI, a five-year plan by Air India to become a world-class global Indian carrier with an Indian heart. According to Wilson- the CEO and MD, the company’s fleet growth “will combine both narrow- and wide-bodied aircraft to adapt to different network needs.”

Between December 2022 and March 2023, the carrier will bring five Boeing 777-200LR aircraft into service for use on routes from important Indian metropolises to San Francisco and New York. Then, in Q1CY2023, four Airbus 321 aircraft are expected to enter the fleet, and the 21 A320 aircraft will be added in the second half of the year. On both shorthaul domestic and international routes, they will be used. Moreover, it is reported that the airline is thinking about purchasing 300 narrow-body aircraft.

India now has access to a 5G mobile network. Top Indian telecommunications firms, including Jio and Bharti Airtel from Reliance Industries Limited, have begun introducing 5G services. Starting on October 5, Jio began beta testing its “True 5G” network in four Indian cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel officially debuted its “5G Plus” service on October 6 in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, and Varanasi.

By the end of this year, both Jio and Airtel intend to offer their 5G services throughout India’s major metropolises. Jio intends to offer 5G coverage all over India by December 2023, but Airtel has reportedly set a March 2024 deadline for the rollout of its 5G network across the majority of the nation.

The 5G services from both telecom behemoths are currently available to subscribers under their current tariff options. When 5G technology is more generally accessible in the nation, Airtel and Jio have stated that they

will reveal their tariff plans for the network. For the purpose of accessing the faster and more effective 5G network, both firms have made it clear that 4G subscribers would not need to upgrade their SIM cards. BCM : That is remarkable. With a SAAS or other subscription business we expect to see client retention driving recurring revenue. But, it is exceptional to see a Services business in which such a high proportion of business is repeat business. Generally, it is thought that Services businesses reset to zero each year. What is your secret to growing recurring revenue?

KEN EHRHART : Our success in growing recurring revenue comes from both the high value of our service, our high quality at low prices, but also the value, the return on investment (ROI) that our clients derive from AR, VR and other 3D solutions. As long ago as 2016, when we founded Paracosma, surveys showed that of the business enterprises that had tried AR or VR, all or virtually all of them intended to continue or increase their adoption. We find this very much to be the case, that once clients see the value of AR/VR and 3D, they accelerate their use. Once our clients begin a successful proof of concept with us, they continue to a pilot and then full deployment. Also, demand for many of our services, such as 3D model creation is often an ongoing business requirement for our clients, it is not a one-time need. In some cases, our repeat-client business scales as fast as we can hire and train artists and engineers.

BCM : When commentators assess the health of the AR or VR Industry they often look at headset sales or hit video games. How do you view the health of the industry?

KEN EHRHART : Years ago, I think we would have weighed some of the same factors. Even last year we saw supply-chain constraints at the start of the pandemic that reduced headset availability just when some hit games became available. Yet, by the end of 2020, the Oculus Quest 2 headset was recognized as a huge success and we have seen the Quest ecosystem expand with numerous hit games and apps. Yet, we have found our business propelled by a broader business trend. We find that businesses, technology and computing generally are undergoing a shift from 2D systems to 3D. This is reflected across all industries. From 3D printing to self-driving cars, most sectors are enabled by moving to 3D computing. Similarly, part of our business is replacing traditional studio photography with renders of photo-realistic 3D models and entire scenes made from those models. This produces a huge ROI completely independent of the adoption of AR and VR. We are also using 3D game engines to create simulations of the real world, so we can generate synthetic images and videos for training machine-vision deep learning AI (artificial intelligence). We see business and growth opportunities well beyond AR and VR headset adoption.

BCM : How do these big changes in technology impact client Trust?

KEN EHRHART : Every potential client has a preconceived idea of AR and VR. Often that image or vision is beyond what current technology is capable of. From our earliest customer conversations we find ourselves assessing whether or not the customer’s vision is possible. Can it be achieved with existing technology? Is it theoretically possible but needs to be developed? Will it need to wait for future innovations? Being honest about what is possible, allows us to join with our clients on a journey. We can deliver what is possible today as well as plan a roadmap that encompasses their full vision in the future. This also becomes the foundation for long-term repeatbusiness relationships, because that journey plays out over time. Similarly, we are constantly striving to innovate and push the limits of what is possible technologically, because we want to

improve upon and expand upon what we have already done for our clients. We want to advance with them to the next better way of doing things.

BCM : Customer Trust is built over time. What is your value proposition for first-time clients?

KEN EHRHART : Because of our large team and 5 years of experience, we really offer a one-stop shop for AR, VR and 3D services such as modeling. We can create good looking models of food as well as the AR application to display the models to clients ordering in a restaurant. We can offer a machine maintenance AR application that seamlessly displays 3D spatial information. We can go from concept to realization for a 3D communications app. We can deliver a three-day, three-venue international film festival in VR as well as Virtual office campuses. The non-profit organisation Mozilla, which owns the Firefox browser, has accused Google, Microsoft, and Apple of “self-preferencing” and pressuring users to use their own browsers.
