AUTOMATION: REDEFINING

www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 5 | Special Edition September 2022 INDIA 4 Indranil Roy Indranil@businessconnectindia.in

Peace!

The influence and importance of automation in modern manufacturing practices need no clarification. Higher output and increased productivity are just the two elements on the surface. In introspection, the benefits range from higher production rates, increased productivity, more efficient use of materials, improved safety, reduced work hours, and shorter factory lead times. The prowess of manual labour combined with automated systems results in greater control and consistency in product quality. But, as we talk about the benefits, we cannot forget the associated challenges. The increasing implementation of automation results in work displacement, which can create widespread emotional distress. On top of that, automation systems incur heavy capital expenditures for installation, followed by a higher level of maintenance. People represent what a company stands for, making them a core asset. On the other hand, innovation and technology keep a company competitive and scalable in today’s market. As such, industries need to ensure a balance on both sides.

Coming towards the end, there is a hypothesis that automation technologies have the potential to subjugate mankind, that computer systems will invade people’s privacy, and that improper technology management will endanger civilization, leading to the creation of a society that depends on automation for its survival. Then again, it’s just a hypothesis! With every evolution, mankind has become more mature, and instead of enslaving it, I believe we are working with it to create a sustainable and more evolved society

HOW WE PRODUCTIVITYWORKFLOWVISUALIZETO

Back to our topic, innovation in manufacturing practices has led to advancements in machining tools. They play a critical role in high-tech industries in delivering components of the highest specifications. In fact, these technologies display the best synchronization of technology and human intelligence since it requires both to function properly. As we talk about manufacturing innovation, not acknowledging the manufacturing innovations in India will be a big mistake. With the evolution of high-tech industries, India is shifting to more and more automation-driven manufacturing processes. In fact, it won’t be wrong to say that the country can become a global manufacturing hub by 2030, adding more than $500 billion to the global economy.

A GLANCE AT LOKESH MACHINES

Likhitha Mullapudi Director

www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 5 | Special Edition September 2022 INDIA 12

Since COVID-19, the Indian machine tool market has faced drastic changes. Several external and internal factors have bottlenecked the demand in the machine tools market. Capital goods have always been vulnerable to economic downturns. Since machine tools are used to produce other capital goods, the sector has become vulnerable to economic fluctuations. Import duties on raw materials, metal components, etc., have affected the growth of tool manufacturers. Similarly, a growing number of competitors in the global tool manufacturing space is challenging the Indian market. On the customer side, the paradigm shift to electric drivetrains has resulted in a structural crisis. Automobile manufacturers are becoming reluctant to invest in production assets due to the uncertain future of conventional engines.

EXPANDING ITS WINGS TO BECOME A “ONE-STOP-SHOP”

Today, the company has a vast portfolio consisting of CNC Machines, Special Purpose Machines (SPM), Automation, and Auto Components. From a company with 25 Lakhs at inception, today, Lokesh Machines is a 200 Cr.+ company. Its operations are certified under ISO 9001:2008 & TS 16949:2009 standards by TUV NORD. Even though it has shown a modest revenue generation, the company has an impressive asset base of land holdings, buildings, and machinery. The company operates from six locations in Hyderabad and Pune. Its products are exported to Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, Russia, China, and Middle East countries. It has a strong network of stakeholders, including team members, esteemed clients, and financial partners, which has helped the company sail through waves and tides.

With renewed vigor and lessons from managing crises, the company is now on a sustainable trajectory. Even though inflationary pressures are still plaguing the domain, Lokesh Machines minimizes the impact by working hard internally as well as with many of its suppliers to identify means to contain costs. This keeps their system lean, and production levels are kept high. The crisis, however, has brought the Indian manufacturing industry under the spotlight, which is poised to thrive in the coming years. “Perhaps, this motivates our global suppliers to look at localization that can further our products’ competitiveness in the future,” adds Likhitha Mullapudi, Director.

The said cognizance has made Lokesh Machines reduce their focus on automotive and further expand into non-automotive sectors. In doing so, Lokesh Machines has become a reckoning machine manufacturer. Almost 50% of its Machine Tool Division’s revenues are from the non-auto sector. It has developed General Purpose Machines, better suited for the power sector, such as turbine blades, casings, etc. Similarly, niche solutions have been delivered to the farming sector. The accuracy and reliability of its machines are also sought out by aerospace, defense, and medical infrastructure companies.

True to its vision and core beliefs, the company is actively driving innovation to create unique solutions. This helps to boost trust with clients across all sectors. Strategic endeavours, however, require a tailored strategy. R&D is hence a crucial underlying tenet of Lokesh Machines. From the ability to create new products to the ability to thrive in cutthroat markets, the company conforms to R&D practices. And this is clear from the many “first-in-the-market” developments it has made throughout the years. Few of the notable mentions are enumerated

from these, several more standalone machines attest to its quality and for which it is still a go-to provider. Their first lathe and VMC are still in use. The projects illustrate the technological hegemony it has accrued over time. The turnkey automation and material handling solutions, with IoT connectivity in machines to ensure improved management and production, is a fine example. Its prior relationships with foreign corporations that it supplies with whitelabeled equipment have also helped it advance its technological know-how. With innovative products, Lokesh Machines has built a devoted customer base that encourages referrals and repeat business.

Likhitha continues.

On the technical front, the company is ready to take its legacy of innovation and reliability to the next level. It’s entering new strategic partnerships with overseas companies to maintain the technological edge. They are also expanding to new component divisions in nonautomotive sectors. Last but definitely not least, Lokesh Machines is seeking to flourish in the EV market.

Likhitha adds, “We even established a marketing division in Bangalore.” In summary, Despite the fall In economy post pandemic, they are noticing a growing demand for machines that can multitask with minor automations, and they are creating solutions for this in collaboration with 3rd parties.

driven by a collaboration of leaders and associates, ensure every location functions like a well-oiled machine. Since manufacturing excellence unites them all, their work culture increases productivity and raises employee morale. Because of the company’s cohesive culture and everyone’s alignment with its aim, Lithikha claims that this is what makes it unique. They promote open communication across echelons by holding frequent town hall meetings with the top management to ensure complete transparency.

THRIVING & UNCOVERING NEW HORIZONS

With so many exciting prospects in the pipeline, it will be intriguing to watch how the company sets benchmarks in its mission, “To champion excellent and reliable products through innovative manufacturing and machining services at a cost-effective price.”

“We have identified a few components and subassemblies that would be compatible with our existing activities, and we are establishing the groundwork for those so that we are prepared for future expansion,” states Likhitha.

UNIMPEDED BY COVID-19

A true leader is one who finds the path, travels it, and illuminates it for others. This is how the leaders of Lokesh Machines have kept its sails high. The company is run by industry mavens with 30 to 40 years of relevant experience. They are firmly anchored and responsive to the needs of the clients. Since inception, they have demonstrated an entrepreneurial mindset, constantly striving for innovation. They have upheld a distinct set of values that define the team and are the basic tenets for the next generation to follow. At present, Likhitha is leading the company, carrying forward their Theselineage.values,

Adorned in technology, driven by values, supported by devoted stakeholders, and humbled by customers’ trust, Lokesh Machines is exhibiting exponential growth. Its

timeline spanning over 3 decades is enough proof to justify its core statement, “Leading Machine Tools Manufacturer in India,” which it lives by and goes to every extent to maintain. With well-received projects under its belt and industry recognition, the company is actively expanding its manufacturing facilities to double its production capacity. In that light, Lokesh Machines is geared up to embrace Industry 4.0 innovations. Development of Metal Additive Manufacturing Machines is also on the line.

A ZEALOUS & UNIFIED WORK-ECOSYSTEM

Nothing could have adequately prepared Lokesh Machines for COVID-19, not even the most innovative strategic methods. Simply put, it was like white water rafting through the mist. The shutdown and subsequent supply chain interruptions left them with financial wounds. So how did they bounce back? It was the sheer will and resolve of all stakeholders that enabled them to bounce back without compromising quality, dependability, and precision. Most of the team were physically back at work with the appropriate health measures, as working from home is not possible in the manufacturing industry. Since then, they have factored epidemics into their risk mitigation strategies.

STORYSUCCESS INSPIRING SUCCESS STORY OF EBAY FOUNDER PIERRE OMIDYAR PIERRE OMIDYAR EBAY FOUNDER www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 5 | Special Edition September 2022 INDIA 18

Pierre Omidyar is one of the greatest founders and entrepreneurs of our time. He worked hard to improve many people’s lives by making them more accessible to each other. The ideas he had and the vision he saw were not only bold but also made a huge impact on society as well. His values and principles not only made him successful but also helped him build one of the best business empires of all time.

THE EARLY LIFE OF PIERRE OMIDYAR:

Omidyar started composing computer code for an online marketplace that allowed for direct communication between users when placing bids on various collectibles in 1995 when he turned 28. Pamela Wesley, who opined the difficulty in finding online Pez dispenser accumulators who shared her interests, was the woman he fell in love with during this time. Omidyar created an online auction service on his website to

Omidyar, a computer programmer friend of Jeff Skoll, moved eBay to another expensive website after seeing a lot of traffic on his website. He started charging a few cents per item to cover the costs of listing and gathering small collectibles.

EBay’s unwavering popularity completely changed the e-commerce industry. Many people were inspired to start similar businesses by eBay’s success, but nothing could stop the company’s expansion.

His entrepreneurial journey began when he created a memory management program for Apple Macintosh programmers. He graciously asked that payments be made online. He did receive something, even though the amount was too small to mention. He established Ink Development in 1991 along with three other friends to create software for the pen-based computing industry. Later, it changed its name to eShop Inc. and gained such notoriety that Microsoft eventually purchased it, with Omidyar making a profit of about $1 million.

The birth of Pierre Omidyar took place on June 21, 1967, in Paris, France. Iranian by birth, his parents emigrated to France for greater opportunities and higher education. The father of Omidyar is a surgeon, while his mother is a linguist with a doctorate. Omidyar’s family emigrated to America when he was a young child. Omidyar first developed a fascination with computers when he was a ninth-grader.

THE STORY BEHIND EBAY:

After high school, he enrolled at Tufts University. He received a computer science degree from Tufts. He later travelled to the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating from Berkeley, Omidyar started working for Claris, a division of Apple. He later co-founded the computer start-up Ink Development in 1991. In 1995, he started eBay, and soon after, he was one of the richest people on the planet.

His website’s first item to sell was a broken laser pointer. He never made any promises about the products he sold and never accepted any liability for resolving disagreements. All he did was develop a platform for buyers and sellers to communicate online to auction off their goods. By 1996, it had begun to sell airline tickets online after quickly gaining enormous popularity. By the end of the year, it had held about 800,000 daily auctions, up from about 250,000 at the beginning of the year. In 1997, the business changed its name to eBay after being inspired by the Canadian mining company’s prior registration of the name “Echo Bay.”

The Omidyar decided to become philanthropists in 1998. He is the creator of the Omidyar Foundation, which supports several social causes, including disaster relief, poverty alleviation, and support for human rights. He has consistently backed the free press for the past ten years. He established First Look Media in 2013 to advance investigative reporting.

Forbes estimates that Omidyar’s net worth will be $24 billion in 2022. Due to his intense commitment to his work, Omidyar was unstoppable in his quest for success. But he makes an effort to keep a low profile. Only the staff at Starbucks should be able to identify and address me by name when I am out and about in the city.

HIS ENTREPRENEURSHIP JOURNEY:

Conclusion:

He quit his job and devoted himself more to developing the community and technology for eBay because of the company’s success. The business began tripling every three months, which inspired Omidyar to increase his investment and hire a management team with extensive tech experience. They presented Benchmark Capital with their business plan and exchanged $22 million in checks for 22% of the company. Due to her successful company management, Margaret Whitham was appointed CEO of eBay.

American-Iranian billionaire Pierre Omidyar is an entrepreneur, businessman, and philanthropist. He is the creator of the widely used e-commerce site eBay. He was ranked as the 24th richest person in the world by Forbes in 2022. The total wealth of Omidyar is $24 Billion. In 1995, he established eBay to give people simple access to markets. The original item on eBay was Omidyar’s outdated printer. At first, there were no buyers, but after a week, bidders started to show up. Omidyar’s journey from starting the business as a hobby to creating an empire worth $13.1 billion is inspirational. Here’s his success story.

THE MOUNTAINS SUCCESSFULLY CLIMBED

When it comes to knowledge of the business that you are doing, one is working just as a project management consul tancy, which is available in abundance in the market and it all together a different aspect to being offering a complete experience on the technical aspects, which is rare.

Comparing the facilities and advancements that we have to day was far different from what Satish did when he started, there is a massive gap from then to now and it is only better today. He started by signing three projects at the beginning of his career and has successfully come to a point where the company is blocked for the next two years in terms of un dertaking projects.

Investing quality time in research and development plays a very important role for the company, so each time there

“I have gained a mixed experience of corporate and fami ly-owned businesses, both and hence I have had a firsthand experience of infusion of technology on a large scale with the right quality of food.” Strongly asserts Satish.

What gives them an edge is the fact that they offer standards of services that are international, so for anyone who has the right complete value chain knowledge and expertise is miss ing from the market. They take ownership of the project, ex ecute it successfully and then handover it in fully running process. The market lacks the availability of end to end solu tion providers and that is what they offer. Having said that, on a parallel, for the client, it’s easier to hire one company for all these processes and stick to one point contact for all the queries.

”Being from Hyderabad, Satish’s career was all engulfed with the growing industries there. He shifted from a suc cessfully booming career to consultancy solely on the faith balancing on his knowledge and experience. At the begin ning, of course, he faced challenges, in terms of adoption of technology because it was new. But there was an assurance that if not today, eventually companies will have to mend their ways towards technology, it’s a global requirement and so he didn’t give up.

In India and Asia, fully automated facility for the spice mar ket was initiated and conceptualized and convinced client to adopt the latest technology , so in terms of competition, there were none in this vertical for him. He has for years served as the best in the spice consultation market. We bought tech nological advancements to the market, in terms of time and value, prior to VSR Enpro, the spices were being ground in a higher age-old fashion, and they revolutionized the idea of it. that, the fact is that the existence if the technol ogy was there, sadly there was a lack of utilization of it. The mass mentality was bent towards the conventional ways and there was a dire need to change this mindset and bring in ways that were efficient in a variety of manners. Earlier the market and customer demand was not as high as it is today, there were no vendor approvals or factory audits, so these methods worked well earlier but today scenario has changed and with the introduction and amplification of all these things, the market has only gotten better.

COMBATING THE MATCHING TRENDS

The food safety standards have been growing stringent with time in India, eventually, it came to a point where this tech

Rowing back to the history lanes, Satish recollects, “I re member it all, I was working with a safe salary, a hefty one, and had zero projects in hand. Yet I took that leap of faith and started with a small office in Mumbai, which was a life-altering event.

EMPLOYEE IMPORTANCE

“Starting the journey of a consultant is easy, because the only investment is knowledge, so if you have a good team to work with and the right knowledge to disperse, success will always be at hand is what Satish bids his comprehen sion on” adds Vani Satish Kumar.

“Of course each and every employee is important when it comes to me as a single person, I cannot take of everything in every aspect, there has to be a team of dedicated individ uals working towards it loyally” adds Satish.

Hence, there are plans of adding “Deccan Agripure India LLP” a vertical of supply chain Management Company for the same to gain supreme quality material that matches the international standards. With a prima focus on Contract farming /Organic Farming Spices supply to global food companies. This will also help Farmers empowerment, bet ter gain to farmers and also complete Food Traceability in the various processes in the food chain from agricultural production to consumption i.e. Farm to Fork concept.

PLANS FOR FUTURE

Primarly a project consultation firm, they help clients to build their factory. However with more than 60+ projects all over India and a few abroad, adding in-depth knowledge of mar ket, company is now also rendering it services to launch the product, packaging designing, marketing planning etc. These end to end services, formulate the company now to work as a business consultant of innumerable existing clients.

“From not being able to pay the school fee to run a compa ny on international standards, from wanting to sit in an air plane once to fly around 25 days a month, it has been a long journey. I strongly believe and suggest in working hard and never giving up, your dreams will come true.”

VSR Enpro is positively looking ahead for expansion in the approaching years, in terms of consultancy vertical, the only piece that was missing from the puzzle was the raw material. The raw material is the one thing that can hamper the entire process no matter how perfectly it is performed because if the raw spice isn’t good enough, the end product will not be satisfactory either.

If our body is functioning properly, our vitals will show it to us. Before and after exercise, our heart rates should be constant, and our blood pressure and body temperature should also be constant. It can be confirmed that these vital signs are all normal by getting a routine health checkup. For those who engage in a lot of sexual activity, these examinations can also check for STDs to ensure that they are performing safe sex.

Is It Important for Everyone?

Full Body Check-up

A full-body check-up is essentially a complete examination or diagnostic scan of the entire body and is an important component of preventive healthcare. By analysing the health and function of all the body’s systems and organs, it aids in the overall evaluation of each one. A general full-body check-up aids in determining one’s health status and in screening for early symptoms, risk factors, or the presence of abnormalities in the body. A routine full-body checkup may include different tests, but it typically includes examinations of all vital organs, including the heart, lungs, liver, and kidney.

choices can all result in a variety of minor to serious health issues. Long-term savings can be realised by investing in a full-body examination that includes tests for diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, and heart disease. A full body check-up has numerous advantages, and anyone who wants to take charge of their own health and obtain a comprehensive evaluation of all of their body’s major systems should schedule one. If a person is relatively healthy and under the age of 30, they should have a general full body health check-up every 2-3 years, whereas people over the age of 30 should have a regular full body checkup done annually. People with high risk factors for developing health issues, such as seniors, may need to have a check-up every 6 months, or as recommended by their doctors, depending on their health condition.

WHY GET A YEARLY FULL BODY CHECK-UP?

1. To Ensure That Everything Is Fine with Our Vital Signs

In the era of 21st century technology has become a substructure where our life is all about hustle and speed. We humans are always on the run and hardly get time for ourselves. Along with environmental issues like pollution, unhygienic surroundings, consumption of chemical-based products, we hardly get proper nutrition, sleep and exercise, nor do we lead a healthy lifestyle. Such problematic factors may manifest in the forms of certain diseases.Sometimes, we overlook the symptoms of underlying health issues thinking they are trivial and petty. We only rush when things get ugly. Regular Full Body Check-Up can act as a preventive measure and sometimes can even lead to a complete cure of a big future health problem which can not only save time and money but also a lot of physical and emotional trouble.

Who Needs a Full Body Check-Up on a Regular Basis? People in the working-age population (30–60 years old) have been found to have a high risk of developing lifestyle diseases. Lack of sleep, hereditary illnesses, and unhealthy lifestyle

What Does Full Body Check-Up Include?

• specific diagnostic lab tests, but these can vary from person to person depending on the health condition, age, or gender. Occasionally, a doctor might advise additional tests like x-rays or CT scans. Now, let’s understand why get a yearly full body check-up and why is it important for everyone? There are several reasons for regular full body check-ups in this modern time, here, we are mentioning the most common of them.

Everything is secondary to one’s health. Comprehensive health check-ups can reveal the underlying problems that may go unnoticed for years and be fatal. Their timely treatment can be possible after such check-ups and precious lives can be saved. As we grow, health issues become more frequent. Hence, full body check -ups are recommended after 2-3 years for those who are below 30 and once a year who beyond.are

2. The Timely Detection of Cancer Cells in the body divide quickly, which is the main cause of cancer. If untreated, it can be extremely fatal. It claims many lives around the globe every year. Cancer may run in families, but there is no conclusive evidence that a family history of the disease causes it. Some of the most prevalent cancers include breast, testicular, and colon, and early detection through screening can help us address these problems. If you have a history of any of these in your family or otherwise, it’s important to get tested every year so that you can take preventive action in the event that a diagnosis is made.

4. Finding Genetic DisordersDiseases can occasionally be passed down through faulty genes from one generation to the next. Common hereditary diseases include diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. An early diagnosis of a disease is made possible by routine medical examinations. These screenings catch the illness at its earliest stages, making treatment simpler.

6. Diagnoses Illnesses Related to Stress

It is likely that the human body will trigger off a variety of diseases that are brought on by stress in a very fast-paced world with hectic work schedules and lifestyles. Numerous illnesses, both

Diabetes is one of the diseases that has evolved into a disease of lifestyle. Diabetes and obesity are the two conditions that affect people most frequently, thanks to our sedentary lifestyles and processed foods high in sugar. The proper health check-up packages come with the required tests for diabetes, and your doctor can spot the first signs by monitoring your insulin levels. Diabetes is a treatable condition with early intervention. You might not even need medication if you change your way of life as necessary.

8. Improved Lifestyle:

physical and psychological, have been found to be directly correlated with an increase in stress and anxiety. These include gastrointestinal issues, weight gain, mental health issues, depression, and high blood pressure. Regular medical examinations ensure that it is simpler to identify and diagnose these issues at an early stage, even before they become too severe.

9. A Longer Lifespan

29 www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 5 | Special Edition September 2022 INDIA

5. Reduces The Expense of Healthcare

Life can be miserable and draining if you have a severe and lifelong illness that requires ongoing, expensive medical care, prescription drugs, surgeries, and frequent hospital stays. The disease’s failure to be discovered in time is the only explanation. Therefore, a yearly complete physical examination reduces the cost of medical care while also making life easier and more secure. Long-term financial savings are achieved because it lowers the risk of surgeries, chronic illnesses, and hospitalisation.

A complete physical examination helps to identify diseases early, reducing the chance of developing further complications like cancer, liver, kidney, or heart disease. Early diagnosis also makes the financial burden less stressful for the patient. An annual full-body checkup improves both long-term health and life expectancy by allowing for early detection and treatment. It looks for any indications of unusual health and raises awareness of the importance of establishing healthy habits and a healthy lifestyle.

Regular health examinations give the opportunity to identify which habits need to be changed, which reduces the likelihood of contracting any illnesses. This also confirms that the body is functioning normally and lessens anxiety or fear. While doing so, confirm that the body is in good health. The lifespan is also increased by taking the recommended treatments and heeding the doctor’s preventive recommendations.

Final Words:

3. Prevents Disease from Spreading

“Prevention is better than cure,” as the saying goes. It is a wise decision to detect disease or disease risk factors at an early stage. Early detection of critical diseases such as cancer can mean the difference between a cure and a protracted battle. Cancer is a disease that, if detected at a later stage, is difficult to cure. It is stated that detecting cancer at stage 1 results in a 100% recovery rate, whereas detecting cancer at later stages may impact a person’s survival.

The problem is further compounded by the blind spots in selfperception among students. Having grown up in the “exam oriented” culture with a single-minded focus on grades, graduates are shocked to find that the job they assumed would come their way, is an illusion. The assumption is that as soon as they finish their degree, there would be an office-bound job with a large brand, swanky office, easy commute and no targets, especially those related to sales or recruitment. The other assumption is that the job content would precisely match the curriculum covered during their degree courses. These are harsh facts that young people find difficult to accept. But when they do and invest their time in cross-over training programmes, we see magical change. GTT addresses this gap by acting as the bridge between industry and academia for making people employable.”

GTT has partnered with over 4000 Educational Institutions and Government bodies to enable students to become employable and bridge the gap in their employability. GTT delivers highly customized, high impact training programmes focused on delivering a business outcome. GTT training is conceptualized, designed and delivered by a core team of senior professionals with 25 years plus experience in senior leadership roles and a large team of 1000 trainers spread across India.

GAINING AN EDGE in the employability space Manjiri states, “Despite a slew of degrees and competitive quality of technical and professional educational institutes, the sad truth is that 95% of Indian graduates find it extremely tough to get a job. It is a myth that no jobs are available in India. There are sectors that continue to hire in large volumes and reputed employers who are grappling with finding the right talent. Almost every company is scouting for people with excellent communication skills, confidence, professionalism and exemplary work ethic. Unfortunately, none of these behavioural skills that employers are looking for are adequately addressed by University graduate curriculum.

Set up in 2008, Global Talent Track (GTT) is a venture funded by Intel Capital and Cisco Systems and is driven by the cause of ‘Making India Employable’ and nurturing leaders. GTT delivers solutions in three areas: Corporate Training, Programmes driven by Corporate Social Responsibility and Talent Resourcing and Skilling.

Global Talent Track, Training That Translates Academic Concepts Into Professional Achievement in the World of Work

Research and Development

It is important for corporates to ensure that they have development programs in place to enable the employee to gain skills and knowledge, hence becoming better at their jobs and people management leading to higher retention and profitability. Manjiri feels that it is important for all to come to work with the same passion like it was their first day, it is important to bring in passion to work because doing things or getting them done is not the sole objective. The focus should also be in bringing excellence.

37 www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 5 | Special Edition September 2022 INDIA

The Scenario for Corporate Training Manjiri candidly explains that in the most cynical of scenarios, training has been perceived as a “nice to have” activity championed by HR and L&D teams and a “break” from work. There are two fundamental reasons for this flawed perception. The first is that what is taught in a training session remains confined to the classroom. If a homily is delivered to the training participant in a uni-directional manner (trainer talking at the participants), the sessions are bound to be boring and unlikely to stick. Moreover, as participants are not able to make the connection between the concepts taught in the class and their actual work, they could develop a cynical approach towards training – as a waste of time or “break from work”. Unfortunately, the approach towards training has also been in the direction of “filling up training hours” with little concern for relevance of content and quality of delivery.

At the surface level, training companies tend to look just the same and offer services which are quite similar to each other. The differentiators lie in the training provider’s ability to capture the precise outcome expected as a result of the training, the ability to design unique, high quality content and deliver this content in an engaging manner. Also, important today, is to use standard training programmes and customise them to the individual learning styles and needs of participants and employers. This is best achieved through blended learning using the right mix of face-time with the trainer, individual/group coaching, online modules, prework and assignments.

Manjiri further added “I am as good as my team is. This makes it all the more important for me to ensure that I provide them opportunities to work in varied areas and challenges for them to work upon. Satisfaction with the mediocre may make a person complacent dampening the zeal to bring in excellence into your work”

Learning for Manjiri has always been a continuous process when asked about being inspired; she truly feels that she has learned from all the people she has met in her life. From what she should do to what she shouldn’t, everything, and all of it has helped her in growing both personally and professionally.

All the research work starts right at the clients’ place for GTT team. They design and deliver highly customized training modules to ensure that it has a high impact on the audience resulting in them growing as an individual and as a professional too. Research and development are important to understand the crux of the matter and to gauge the pulse of the audience in order to map a solution to their business challenges.

Values and Ethos for all

The effectiveness of the organization depends on the competence of the employees, leaders, managers, etc. A lot

Apart from work, Manjiri has authored five books with reputed publishers like McGraw Hill and Sage and writing continues to be a passion when time permits. Manjiri was among one of 12 professionals selected by LinkedIn amidst 13,000 applicants across the UK to assist Virgin Founder Sir Richard Branson to evaluate, train and mentor entrepreneurs pitching for a 1-Million-pound fund. Extremely valuable for Manjiri is precious time with family and close friends. Leisure for her is theatre and movies in English, Hindi and Marathi, swimming and reading.

On the personal front, the two causes close to her heart areenabling senior citizens to live active and happy lives and social mobility - helping the urban underprivileged break free from historical socio-economic entrapment.

The Hushed Feathers in the Cap

There is much more to a client relationship than fulfilling a mandate and raising an invoice. To begin with, everything we do for the client must address the client’s pain point or business objective. The starting point for designing any solution for a client is to understand what it is that is keeping the leaders at the client awake at night. And when the client knows that we have attempted to understand what they want to accomplish and have left no stone unturned to make this possible, there is appreciation, continued goodwill and acceptance in the true spirit of partnership.

• Improve employee loyalty.

mployee engagement is one of the most popular yet misunderstood organizational topics. It is a key competitive differentiator in the modern business landscape. And, unsurprisingly highly engaged employees are productive, and also it turns workers into your best advocates. This isn’t only my thoughts. It is a proven study.

4. BE APPROACHABLE AND VISIBLE

2. LEAD WITH OPTIMISM

As we all know, leaders of companies play a crucial role in fostering employee engagement. Projecting a positive attitude about the company, work culture, professional role, and life, in general, can have a positive impact on employee engagement. In addition to being skilled and competent bosses, leaders act as role models by setting a professional, positive tone and leading by example. Beginning each day with an optimistic outlook can provide an energy boost that improves employee engagement and morale.

Fostering a culture of trust and respect improves employee engagement and plays a crucial role in strengthening work stratification. A friendly work environment that emphasizes teamwork and makes them feel great among all employees at all levels of the organization improves interpersonal and organizational trust, employee engagement, and an overall sense of community. This is another suggestion to improve employee engagement.

3. CREATE A HEALTHY AND POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT

WORKINGPEOPLEGROUP OUTPLANBUSINESSOFFICE MEANINGFUL WORK

As a leader, you must be visible, available, and approachable at the workplace. An effective leader engages with employees’ families - not to spy on them but rather to genuinely interact and speak and to be there for team members. Many high rankers

keep an open-door policy - allowing employees to come and share their idea with their bosses. However, it could be better if a leader walks through it on his, or her way to spending meaningful time in the workstation to build healthy engagement with their team members.

One of the best ways to boost employee engagement is to understand the career goals of your team members. It is a great idea to encourage and help your team members to work toward their higher aspirations by giving them time to learn new skills to enhance their careers. It ensures employees that their job in your company helps them get close to their goals. The goals lie in working on an innovative project for the company itself. You can also encourage your employees to develop personal projects and implement creative ideas. Apple CEO Tim Cook allows certain employees to spend 20% of their work time pursuing a new project that may help Apple. You can do something like that.

Another way to build employee engagement is to provide your employees flexibility for work. Flexibility has been shown to improve employees’ well-being, company culture, engagement, and more.

5. ENCOURAGE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND LEARNING

So, identify your good performer and find opportunities to push them, who have room to grow. If promotion isn’t available, give them valuable and challenging tasks so that they will work on to grow within their current role.

6. BOOST INTERPERSONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL TRUST

7. RECOGNIZE & REWARD WELL PERFORMS

ENCOURAGE AND LEARNING

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

Great leaders keep their word, inspire employees, and build confidence & trust among team members interpersonal trust must be earned, and both stem from an intentional effort to follow through and align one’s behavior and values with the institutional vision, mission, and shared values. A good leader develops good work culture where each employee is treated with respect and civility and trusted to fulfill the organization’s strategic goals. They foster an environment where meaningful, frequent, and open communication takes place. Applying such factors can create a beautiful environment where employees feel appreciated and thus become highly motivated to accomplish their work.

Employees succeed when they understand and accept their performances, have the essential resources to get the job done and receive ongoing feedback about meeting their goals. They want to know that the work they are doing is worth it. If employees are not sure about their performance or if their contribution isn’t recognized, they may assume that their work isn’t worthwhile or meaningful. The performance feedback helps employees feel engaged and involved.

10. ALLOW FLEXIBILITY

8. PROVIDE MEANINGFUL WORK

We are motivated by the desire to do good work, practice our creativity and feel like we are making difference for the better. Drive’s author claims that those people who do engage in meaningful work perform on a higher level, make more effort, and want to make your company more successful and profitable. Today’s employees who spend 8 hours at your workplace – want to be doing meaningful work that fulfills them on a deeper level rather than simply punching time cards. Therefore, leaders should provide meaningful work - ask them to define it for themselves and suggest ways to accomplish it.

9. SET CLEAR GOALS AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK

According to a Gallup report, employee engagement improves when employees spend some time working remotely and some time working at the workplace with their colleagues. Weekly face time with the team and managers seems to affect engagement. The optimal engagement increases when people spend 60% to 80% of their time working off-site- or three-four days in a five-day workweek.

Though most leaders agree that recognition on the job is essential, they also accept that they don’t regularly acknowledge employees for their good performance. This is one of the major factors that lead to disengagement toward work. Whereas rewarding and recognizing employees lead to greater employee engagement.

Workforce Development as an Art

Krishna R Ramamurthy - Krish Founder & Chief Learning Officer

“85 percent of people don’t change because they don’t know the “Art of Managing Brain”. We are not managing Brain! Brain is managing us!” says Krishna R RamamurthyChangeKrish.

Potential Genesis HR Services

“All the work that we do in executive coaching & training space is based on neuroscience. We clearly understand how brain is the base for feeling, emotion and thinking, self-regulation and thus we are able to maximize outcome.”

initiatives in organisations are less successful as any change is often perceived as threat. Change initiatives fail to position change as a “reward”. Take the case of AI and the fear of future because of it. Papers and blogs present the coming of Artificial Intelligence as a threat. The same thing had happened with PC coming into existence.

The corporate culture is dynamic, fastpaced and challenging. To a newbie, simply surviving in this breathtaking arena can be quite a task. Corporate training institutes help the new and fresh minds get acquainted with this culture, and Potential Genesis is one of the best ones, intent at developing the Potentialworkforce.Genesis

is a global organization dedicated to “Igniting Potential” by enabling you to progress your “Personal Growth and Development Journey”.

Today the company has initiated a “community approach” to working relationship with his people. Our people are called community members who work as members and not employees. The company has a novel “Work-EarnLearn” approach to engage people. Within four years of its inception, the company has already been slotted in the top 20 best workforce development company in India in 2018.

Started in 2014, the company bestows Executive Coaching & Training Services. Krishna R Ramamurthy - Krish’s personal experience of three decades laid the foundation for Potential Genesis’ neuroscience-based people development initiative. Framing its services into triangle format where relationship is put on the top, and feeling & emotion and thinking are placed at different corners, the firm enables workforce to deal with their intrapersonal transformation and conveniently move

The transformation at individual or organizational level needs continuous attention to new possibilities & behaviours (reward response) rather than on resisting learning and staying with existing behaviour or thinking (threat response). “Habits never die. They can only be made unconscious”. Making the habit unconscious is the art of people development.

Differentiating Factors

They teach leaders to deploy all five-sense neural highways, which aid them to understand how current generation workforce works, thinks, feels and behave.

At Potential Genesis all the people and organisation development initiatives are based on minimizing threat and maximizing reward.

Catering on three key strategies, 4D (diagnose, design, develop and deliver), Digi Flip and Learning Honey Comb Model, Potential Genesis crafts a ‘Fit for Purpose’ solution based on Solo-Taxanomy for clients. With five generations at workplace and populated with digital bohemians, the venture recognizes the learning need for the new generation, where in its strategy is to flex delivery for both entrepreneurs and employees. Its accredited coach training program (based on neuroscience) from International Coach Federation- ICF is uniquely designed for individuals to become certified coaches form ICF. Potential Genesis is the only Indian organization to offer coaching based on neuroscience.

beyond their comfort zone by stretching their brain to align with an individual’s behavioural preferences or preferred ways for working. It connects the neural pathways of both individuals, as well as organizations towards pursuing the work, thereby improving their performance and helping them to facilitate positive change and lead more effectively.

Always in pursuit of offering high quality &cost-effective training, Potential Genesis collaborates with different organizations (International Coach Federation, Tracom, BOSI and de Bono Thinking Systems). The company is looking forward to expand its in-house and external coaching certification programs and footprints in cities like Pune & Mumbai, and endeavours to offer small duration training programs virtually to people.

The company utilizes brain-based, process-focused and outcome-driven framework & methodologies to design customized people development solution – Executive Coaching &Training for business drivability. “All the work that we do in executive coaching & training space is based on neuroscience. We clearly understand how brain is the base for feeling, emotion and thinking, self-regulation and thus we are able to maximize outcome,” proclaims Krishna R Ramamurthy - Krish, Founder & Chief Learning Officer at Potential Genesis HR Services.

The four stages of learning, Unconscious incompetence, Conscious incompetence, Conscious competence, Unconscious competence, need no explanation. But consider this perspective: development happens when a learner deliberately, consciously and purposefully, and constantly moves from Unconscious competence to Conscious Incompetence and makes his way to conscious competence and back to unconscious Incompetence. The fast development of technology requires all of us to go through this cycle. The individual who is adaptable and flexible to this cycle will eventually thrive and succeed in the VUCA world. Brain likes novelty.

The company clearly differentiates between training & coaching, and uses methodologies such as story building (using pictographs & ideographs) and bite-size leaning to deliver the training by flipped classroom technology effectively. Potential Genesis performs one-to-one & group coaching and adapts people for training wherein these training are later converted into sub classroom. “We take people in large sizes, break them into small groups and setup learning centres in room loaded with features of learning centre and presentations happen around those learning centres. The idea is to present that brain is behind the learning,“ adds Krishna R Ramamurthy - Krish. These sessions not only enable students/executives to learn the concept and application of the concept rather than just remembering names & terminologies, but also help them to balance two different sets of thinking (western & eastern) and relate with various people/clients across geography. This helps the client to get return on investment of training –a most critical need of all the organization.

There’s a region in our midbrain called the substantia nigra/ ventral segmental area or SN/VTA. This is essentially the major “novelty centre” of the brain, which responds to novel stimuli. The SN/VTA is closely linked to areas of the brain called the hippocampus and the amygdala, both of which play large roles in learning and memory. The hippocampus compares stimuli against existing memories, while the amygdala responds to emotional stimuli and strengthens associated long-term memories.
