A MANEUVER ADHERING TO TAKE THE INDIAN ECONOMY TO GREATER HEIGHTS… Though this whole narrative is all about our recently hosted signature-gathering, Indo-Global Entrepreneurship Conclave 2022, I would like to start with spotlighting the vision, mission and values behind Business Connect that made it what it is today to its global audience. Shall we dive in? Sure, we should. Business Connect is not just a magazine but an acknowledgement of the duty of being in business journalism. A forethoughtful vision to serve the community with informative content where not only big brands; but also, burgeoning entrepreneurs could get coverage of their newfangled business ideas and unique perspectives. So far, every publication shared by us has been injected with a booster of entrepreneurial motivation and business insights to benefit the fraternity in the best possible manner. And today, the reach of Business Connect marks the destination of a prosperous drive itself. In my entrepreneurial journey so far, it has been great to be part of an enlightened business community driven by dynamic leaders who continue to strive for empowerment, growth and change. I believe we are the generation of entrepreneurs who are fortunate enough to learn and thrive with such insightful beings. Rather than play competitively, they strive to endorse and project each other forward towards holistic growth. Today, the entrepreneurial ecosystem stands firm on neoteric business psychology. We can see revolutionary ideas backed with the socially-responsible ideology airing the business landscape. Well, Business Connect is not exempted from this ideology. All our efforts and energies have always been heavily dedicated to the amelioration of the entrepreneurial space as we all pave our path to a brighter future ahead. The new-age budding entrepreneurs are not devoid of ideas or enthusiasm but social appreciation. We as leaders need to applaud their contribution to the economic growth at the social level which could serve as a boost to their morale. We are aware of the fact that entrepreneurs are the key contributors to the employment drive in India. They are readily hiring new talent and providing them with a scope to explore better opportunities in their favor. Providing them with exposure on a global scale that can do wonders to our business landscape while motivating them to make better offerings. For instance, my initiatives to change the current state of print media and the whole idea behind Business Connect were especially appreciated by our honorable panelists- Mr Anil Trigunayat, Dr Urvashi Makkar, Mr. S.J Sinha, Mrs. Rekha Sharma, Mr Madhukar Gupta, etc.- making me even more ardent to forge ahead to a radiant future with uplifted spirits. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries who appreciated my work and shared their token of advice with me. My experience of witnessing this all is inexpressible as my dream came true with this conclave! Also, watching similar ideas and start-ups thrive in their niche, an entrepreneur Mr Tanmay Goyal- Founder and CEO of Triumb, has been found to be performing outstandingly in the entrepreneurial space. His new age business ideology is worth many applauds and I would like to share my appreciation note with this one of the youngest entrepreneurs in India who has become a youth sensation among the entrepreneurial community.

Our extravaganza Indo-Global Entrepreneurship Conclave was dedicated to recognized such exemplary entrepreneurs only. It hosted some key-note speeches by our erudite panelists hailing from different industrial segments. At its core, the whole conclave was fixated on one steadfast motive- exchanging ideas on the Indian economy while discussing the current state of the businesses to drive better growth in their favour. And especially in the post-covid-19 scenario, many businesses had been in dire need of resurgence. I think the power-packed speeches made by our special guests must have left every participant awestruck as well as provided them with insights to make their venture a thriving success. In a nutshell, the impact scale of this conclave could be considered a life-changing experience for everyone and especially those seeking any idea/ suggestion to add substantial value to their businesses or business aspirations. After all, we never know when we come across any transformational idea and take us where many people only dream of! Additionally, I would like to extend my unfeigned felicitations to all the winners who became recipients of specially-curated award categories. INDIA’S GLORIOUS FLIGHT TO THE LOFTY HEIGHTS OF POWER ACCELERATING BUSINESS GROWTH IN THE POST COVID SCENARIO We have been standing still for a long time now. We must gather our courage. Not only that, but we must hustle. If at all, we want to achieve our goal of making India a $5 trillion economy, we must resort to concerted and targeted action plans that will provide the right thrust to our nation and push it towards the acme of its potential. Business growth can be accelerated in a relatively short period of time if our business communities recognize the need for coordinated efforts and actions. “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much,” Helen Keller once said. India is presently witnessing a phase of “Technical Recession,” and it is our prerogative to take her out of this phase of depression. Our mission is not only to put her back on track but also to realize our vision of India as a 5 trillion dollar economy! The pandemic era ravaged the Indian and global scenes, resulting in countless deaths and untold grief and misery. But greater still has been the human spirit. We, as a nation, have been forced by the pandemic into inching slowly and cautiously forward. While the whole world is slowly coming back to normal from the traumatic period of COVID-19, we must plan ahead to grow in leaps and bounds. These unprecedented times of the great human trial have also brought opportunities to transform our thought processes and grow out of the stagnancy and immobility that have dwarfed our capabilities as evolved humans for decades and centuries. If there is a great trial, there also must be, in the womb of chaos and disaster, a great possibility for a big leap forward. For many reasons, it is quite evident now that India is mired in the muddy waters of a prolonged recession. Aside from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were subsequent global missteps such as the Russia-Ukraine War and its consequences on global trade. This has negatively affected the Indian economy. But then there was a whiff of good news too. The recent surge in Indian goods exports, which touched USD 400 billion, has put faith back in the hearts of Indian businesses. Even as the central banks wind back the pandemic-era measures, India has gathered herself bravely. She is all set to go ahead with her economic diplomacy policies openly across the globe. If we look at our neighboring country, Sri Lanka, we see how it has given up in the face of its internal economic breakdown; India has rekindled its flame of confidence. And it is not a sheer, empty kind of confidence! India has recently inked crucial trade agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Australia, and the talks with Israel, the European Union, and Britain are also progressing well. Several agreements are in the pipeline that would be realized by the end of 2022. The Indian market provides huge opportunities for U.S. exporters. India has the potential for sustained high growth for the next couple of years. Recent structural policy reforms have proven critical in ensuring sustained investment growth. Moreover, the government of India is tirelessly promoting Indian businesses on the global stage; the Indian economy is on a sure-footed path to recovery and better opportunities in the future! So, in absolutely no time, India is going to rise from the troubled waters of “technical recession”. She will bounce back sooner and stronger and realize her mission of becoming a $5 trillion economy. Today, India has conquered her own fears and emerged stronger than ever. Her undying spirit is proof that she’s unstoppable! India has been captivating the imaginations of great men since her days of yore and has inspired them with her ancient knowledge. India has inspired every nation in the world with her spirit of resilience and tolerance. She has shown impossible and unparalleled courage and unity in the face of all the many disasters and catastrophes that befell her. We, as a nation, are only as strong as our community. There is immense power in the community. Information and knowledge are the ultimate tools that make a nation powerful. The application of correct information and the right knowledge impacts the progress and development of a nation much more than advancement in technology can. This can save lives, place us on the path of sustainability, and make us prosperous. Businesses need to come together on a priority basis and aid one another toward sustainable development goals. Collective action and active support are needed to propel the entire machinery of the economy of a huge nation like India. As David Spangler has very aptly said: “Some people think they are in community, but they are only in proximity. True community requires commitment and openness. It is a willingness to extend yourself to encounter and know the other.” During COVID-19, we have seen the power of information as well as the benefits of a well-connected community. That’s why we insist on building a tight-knit business community that is held together by threads of information and empowered with the power of knowledge. This will surely take India towards a knowledge-driven society, economy, and leadership.

On a personal front, I am extremely delighted to be a part of this Business Conclave where the interactions with business heads, government officials, and other dignitaries provided me with valuable nuggets of wisdom and food for thought. And I believe all these learnings will contribute to my growth for sure.

Networking is a lucrative process that allows businesses, especially the start-ups, to get relatable referrals, be in the know of the market perspectives, come across their sales pitch, get to know better cultural principles and learn from other leaders’ experiences. In the nutshell, networking could fuel business growth as such no other technique could ever do so. Acknowledging the significance of networking in terms of business growth, we are also into conducting such symposiums that could ensure better business networking.

Rewards and recognitions are crucial to boosting productivity and motivation that gives rise to the repeated desired behavior. With this ideology, our jury members shortlisted the outperformers from different industrial domains, creating gargantuan impact across their niches. IGEC 2022 awarded and felicitated the winners with specialized categories and a certificate of appreciation was handed over by our chief guestMrs Dipika Chikhalia. As we witnessed an assemblage of entrepreneurs, business tycoons, and key persons from various fields where everybody networked in the favor of the business community, our firm belief asserts that the overall motive behind this extravaganza had been satisfactorily fulfilled.

In line with motivating, encouraging and mentoring the budding businesses, new-age ideas and prototypes, Business Connect organized its signature event- Indo-Global Entrepreneurship Conclave 2022 on the 27th of May 2022. The conclave’s theme was dedicated to discussing the condition of the businesses in the post-covid-19 scenario. Our whole team is overwhelmed by the support extended by the dignitaries who marked their presence at the gathering. Here, our panel of speakers hailing from different corners of the world joined this assembly and discussed the core theme by touching on several pain points and aspects, suggesting the businesses as per their years of experience and expertise. We believe that the power-packed speeches from the dignitaries didn’t fail to fill the hearts of our global audience with motivational fire. They conveyed the importance of dedication, determination and ethical behavior as integral factors in fuelling the business growth. Former Ambassador of India to Jordan, Libya and Malta, New Delhi It is a great honor and privilege to be part of this excellent organization that Business Connect has organized as IGEC 2022. As far as the businesses are concerned, they have suffered a great deal of loss amid the covid-19 scenario. A majority of the businesses, especially from the SME sector. But, we have to look at the opportunities that we have come across along with seeking the possibilities that could be generated by us. Many things that did not exist before have been accentuated and moved to a much higher field. For instance, we are living in a digital world which has become a habit for most of us, new markets have been opened up, etc. We have also seen that our dependencies on certain countries that virtually own up to 60-70% of global value supply chains are something we could not continue to rely upon today. The world has witnessed it and hence, there has been a greater effort to somehow look at India as an emerging secondlargest economy in the world as per the estimates. We have also heard from the IMF that even amid the pandemic scenario, India is about to witness a GDP growth rate of 8.2%, which I believe is a major achievement. It represents the resilience of our economy as well as the businesses. But, something is lagging in my view about the economy. This is the reason that we have witnessed an increased amount of trade with our neighbor country- Chinaasserting the dependency on it for different needs. When we talk about India becoming the hub of vaccines for that matter or a pharmacy of the world, we forget about the large dependencies on countries like China. And countries like the USA that are supposedly considered to be open or liberal economies, have become far more protectionists over the period. We were looking at World Trade Organizations to regulate

it but today, it has become dysfunctional. Similarly, many international organizations and multinational organizations within the domain of geo-economics have stopped functioning. So, what is an economy like India supposed to do? It should start turning toward its core internal strengths so that India could also compete effectively in the global market. And ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ is all about this- what we have been striving for since the 1940s. Though we have grown very much into a developed economy today as we have large contributors to the economy from the service sector. All these Make in India or Come to India programs are a sheer booster to our economy. But, we all need to work together in the same direction. We all need to make collaborative efforts to deal with any issues related to hunger, habitat or high technology to work towards a blazing future for our country. Indeed my fellow panelists must be sharing with you many insightful suggestions on business growth and economic wellbeing, but I would like to conclude with one thought hereeconomic diplomacy should be the primary concern of each of us as we all are accountable for it at one or another level. For this, people need to step up and reach out to embassies asking them for help in different subjects. Today, I am proud to say that embassies have included a transparent approach in their operations, being more active and proactive to help people at the ground level. GUEST MADHUKAR GUPTA Former IAS, CEO- CSR Authority- Sikkim, India Here, I would like to begin by converging your attention to the fact why some countries are rich and why some are poor? How come some countries like the US are considered to be the most developed economies? Looking at the facts and figures, the United States is four times the size of India and the Indian population is four times the size of the USA’s population. Assuming the same proportion of natural resources per person, the ratio that we get is 1:16. When it comes to comparing both the countries on the same level, we could see the huge difference and reality of the facts. When we talk about employment, we say how many of our graduates are employed? But have we asked this question ever, how many of our graduates are employable? Dignitaries have been talking about the new-age education policy but what is so new about this policy, are they ‘in the know’? If you have observed closely, most of the Nobel laureates who were acknowledged for their contributions to different fields like science, literature, etc, belonged to Europe(in the 20th century). Afterwards, you must have witnessed post-1950s most of the contributors hailing from the USA. Today, the US is developing due to its robust education system. Today, what is the difference between US universities and Indian universities? The primary difference is quarterly examinations that alumni have to attend based on their learning abilities in India whereas the US faculties evaluate the student’s overall attitude and performance deciding their forward trajectory. The US educational institutions search for excellence, making the country what it is today.

need to refuse to implement the same policies across the country differently. It is of utmost importance to learn from our history to carve a better future tomorrow. Now, when I see the new-age Institutes of Excellence for livelihood, I question their existence as our country cannot afford such institutions. What was the motive behind the establishment- to build an institution or to provide jobs? I am not hesitant to say that countries that started fresh, did much better than how we did. In a country like India, we need to take a cost-effective approach and we have to scale up things to develop in a much better way. For this, we need to utilise our infrastructure more efficiently. In terms of entrepreneurship, when we need to encourage entrepreneurs from the ground level. For instance, when it comes to a tea seller with his own tea stall, we should help them get licences so that he could add value to our economy. Just like in Singapore, we should facilitate street hawkers with the license to do their businesses efficiently. Moreover, I would want the Indian parenting system to self-analyse- why don’t they allow their young ones to go out and make their own money? Why don’t Indian parents push their kids to shed their inhibitions and go out of their way to start earning using their unique ideas? Spoon Feeding should be eradicated as it has only wasted and spoiled our young and bright minds. Concluding now, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that a lion, tiger, cheetah, elephant, etc, are way more powerful than a 5’6 feet human being. Still, humans have managed to enslave these supreme animals, how come? Owing to our high level of intelligence. The world is always driven by ideas and we should never stop brainstorming to find new ones. Also, hard work and dedication can move mountains and entrepreneurs should keep these two aspects in mind to never give up on what they started with!

Even with the new-age education policy that we are talking about- the semester system still persists- conventional learning. Then, how come we claim that this new policy will revolutionize the education space? Change has to be not for the sake of change but it should be evident. Are we able to produce capable professionals with such a system? This is the reason why European and American countries have become so developed within a short span of time. And needless to say, how elated I am to be in the presence of our eminent panelists coming from such diverse backgrounds- yes, the assembly is truly fantastic. I would like to address the core theme of the IGEC 2020 by sharing my insights into the subject. The three waves of covid witnessed by us all have influenced our lives in the most unimaginable ways. All of us have experienced the brutality of the second wave of Covid that took innumerable precious lives. Meanwhile, I was handed over with the responsibility of handling all the international donations concerning the covid crisis India was facing last year. And of course, it gave me a lifetime of experience as it was an unforeseen task in my whole career. It was absolutely amazing to witness people from all across the globe pouring their hearts out over the calls while extending their monetary support to India in the direction of fighting the cruel wave of covid. And above this, what amazed me the most was the efficiency with which the government had been functioning during those hard times. This covid-scenario provided us with two fundamental learnings from which the business landscape could learn a lot. First is to possess a local infrastructure along with public infrastructure, which is a commitment by the government, and needs to be pretty strong. Second is an observation that any economy with the capability

to control its supply chain process has the potential to bounce back after such an unprecedented crisis- from upstreams to downstreams controlling maximum points. Coming to the Indian economy, no doubt, has boomed outstandingly after reviving from the crisis. It is an evident fact as we are getting recognitions from international administrators and leaders who are fascinated by the way India has handled this dreadful scenario. I can assure you all that the Indian economy is about to emerge as one of the top three economies in the world in the next 4 to 5 years. We all should be assertive in making a ‘leap of faith’ regarding our economy as marvelous development is coming our way. And as I conclude here, I would like to suggest entrepreneurs as well to make a leap of faith, take that jump with their newly budded idea and see what wonders it may bring you. And we as the representatives of Government of India assure you that in case of any assistance, the entrepreneurial ecosystem will be provided with the best possible help. This is why all the PLI schemes and other offerings to support the businesses have been extended by the government. I believe all the budding entrepreneurs should be confident when it comes to their ideas and propositions as you all are the pulse of our economy.

With this speech, I would like to address business leaders of national and international repute to place their sheer attention on a few points that are mentioned below-

The Climatic change- I believe this is the biggest issue that poses multiple opportunities as well as challenges for businesses today. The carbon footprint and food availability will impact the geostrategic, geoeconomic and geopolitical changes while creating new opportunities as well as challenges. International conflicts- Be the ongoing conflicts, or the imminent conflicts or any developing ones, all are going to disrupt the supply chains, and create challenges but at the same time, will provide immense possibilities for the businesses. Domestic societal challenges- Societal differences will enhance the need of strengthening the law and order ecosystem for foreign investments, development and sustenance of businesses.

But one important question to ask- what is our core purpose? We could all ask ourselves this question in a meaningful manner. This whole gathering is all about sharing the seeds of knowledge and experience with each other and I would like to start with addressing the core theme of the conclave. Let’s begin with the term, entrepreneurship! I believe it’s all about accountability and giving value to society. If I were to provide you with a rapid assessment of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, then I would say creating substantial value and putting more disposable income in the hands of common people while boosting the overall economy. The entrepreneurial ventures are not into stimulating high trends in business activities. What if businesses don’t earn money? Would they be able to provide any value to their governments or society? No! Over 50% of the total value being generated by the businesses is being contributed to buying part of the sector. India, China, Vietnam and the Philippines are the countries that learned their tricks of the trade in the most horrible ways. They went through WTO, signed a wrong agreement and corrected their mistakes after paying a huge price. For India, the trade agreement- articles 6 and 7 was a major mistake for sure. Amending those mistakes come at quite a considerable cost and India has paid that price. But gradually, we have learned our ways to bring more value to the table while establishing quite impressive as well as a robust infrastructure to make greater efforts in this direction. I believe owing to these lessons only, all these 4 Asian countries with the ‘bleeding backs’ were able to sustain the covid-19

posed crisis in an effective manner. What happened during the pandemic scenario was the most unprecedented happening owing to the following reasons- supply chains got disrupted, shutting down business operations, lack of liquidity and people were laid off from the market, majorly from Aviation, Manufacturing and Hospitality sectors. Out of 50,000 startups in the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem, over 15% have completely been wiped off- no trace at all. Hence, be it the governments or the populations- we need to be quite sensitive towards entrepreneurial ventures as their way of working is quite unorganized. This is the global assessment of the startup ecosystem as per my in-depth research. All the physical policies or the tools made by the Government of India were quite ineffective in terms of altering the scenario – not only India but the governments across the globe face the same situation. The covid-19 scenario has not only posed a fundamental question for us to ask, whether we are heading towards a sustainable future where we could deal with any such similar crisis in an effective manner. What if tomorrow, we have to protect ourselves from the scorching sun, rising sea levels, drought, volcanic eruptions, etc,? Are we efficient enough to deal with such a crisis? In terms of uplifting the Indian economy to the pre-covid-19 scenario, I would like to suggest five things1. Ease of doing business needs to be improved 2. Lending more support to the educational institutions and similar infrastructure 3. Developing robust financial systems 4. Allowing startups to list abroad 5. Put the business activities as the priority

One such life skill which I advise my students as well as faculty & staff team to always inculcate is “Learning Agility”, which is that rare skill that triggers you to “know what to do when you really don’t know what to do”. It encapsulates the ability, willingness and passion of an individual to learn from experiences and then apply the knowledge thus gained to sail out smoothly and perform brilliantly in unforeseen and challenging situations.
