One of India’s most timeless living craft traditions is pottery. Pottery is practised to the thirst-quenching ‘Surahi’ and ‘Matki’. A visit to the rural and “potter use traditional manual potter’s wheels and kilns to engage in pottery along with subsistence farming, making earthenware an integral part of haat, bazaars and urban market spaces, particularly during the festive season.

When I completed my MBA, I had made up my mind that I wanted to have my own business because I saw immense scope for women in business and entrepreneurship in particular. I took my first steps in the fin-tech space back in 2007. I worked with many women as seniors and as colleagues and began to realize that becoming an entrepreneur is not as difficult as women were made to think. I have been part of the founding leadership team at Cellbiz Services that expanded over the years and was later successfully acquired by a major Fin-tech company. With such experiences, I was able to establish my own company, Paymark Payment Technologies and Services Private Limited, and I feel fortunate that I was, along the way, able to inspire other women to dream big, to dream entrepreneurship! I also want to add that Paymark has shaped me in a great many ways and I am what I am because of it, its highly competent management team, and the efficient support system!

“I firmly believe that women in both the urban and remote parts of the country are much more talented and passionate about whatever they do. I know many women, who have a unique perspective on the fin-tech business and business in general. I have observed that these women possess immense talent and broad vision regarding entrepreneurship and are coming forward too. I am also of the opinion that, if given enough opportunities, women entrepreneurs in India could become global leaders. I have a strong belief that in the future, India will become the place where women entrepreneurs will equally lead the economic development of the country.”Mahua Roy.

“I am not sure how exactly to define my leadership style but I am a firm believer in keeping an ‘open-door policy as a leader. I believe in working with others rather than making others work for me. I am someone who does not like to order or instruct rather, someone who guides and assists. I consider my employees as part of my family and treat them the same as well. My leadership style is not rigid I can say. I believe in open discussions and being available to my colleagues and members anytime they want me. I always look for something new and exciting and inspire my team members the same,” says Mahua.

She adds further, by quoting, “I am fortunate to have a workforce that is already enthusiastic and passionate. Every individual who works in our company holds equal value no matter what position she or he holds. We as a team celebrate each other’s success with great joy and enthusiasm. We have an ‘employee of the month award that recognizes the hard work put in by every employee. We also have an annual office party and other programs that we conduct from time to time.”

Vandana Luthra is an Indian inspirational entrepreneur who is the founder of VLCC Health care Ltd. The company sells beauty products and wellness conglomerate. The company is dispensing in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. In 2014 she became chairperson of the Beauty and wellness sector skills council that is not a profitable organization, the B&WSSC gets financial support from NSDC which comes under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

PERSONAL LIFE AND EDUCATION

Vandana Luther was born on 12 July 1956 in Delhi. According to Wikipedia, she grew up in an educated family, her mother was running charitable Trust and her father worked as a mechanical engineer. She completed her graduation in Delhi and decided to go to different countries (Germany, UK, and France) to gain expertise in beauty, skincare, fitness and food and nutrition. In 1988 she got married to Mukesh Luthra. She has two daughters.

In 1989, Vandana found a company called VLCC as a Wellness centre. initially, she stared the company in Safdarjung Development Area New Delhi. Now VLCC has become famous not only nationally but internationally. Today the company offering a plethora of services like Slimming, beauty & grooming, laser, hair transplant and many more. Currently, VLCC is one of the most leading Beauty and wellness service industry in India. The company is operating the service of more than 326 locations in 153 cities and 13 countries.

VLCC has employed more than 5000 people including medical professional and nutrition experts and cosmetologists and beauty professionals. In the present time, VLCC has set up manufacturing plants in Haridwar India and Singapore. The company produces and sell the product like skincare, body care product, and hair care. As per Wikipedia, These products are also marketed by 100,000 outlets India and more than 10,000 outlets across the middle east and Africa.

VLCC is providing a vocation training course that is known as the VLCC Institute of Beauty & nutrition. Presently the institute has become one of the renovated vocational education academies in the beauty and nutrition training segment. She elected as chairperson at BWSSC. The organization is not profitable and has a moto to teach the skills to those women who have financial issues. Vandana is also running a charity that provides scholarships to underprivileged and physically challenged people. She is the VC of the NGO called Khushii. This NGO is working on different projects like vocational training facility, education with midday meal facility to 3,000 children, and telemedicine centre. According to Wikipedia, she is a member of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga.

In 2013, Luther received India’s fourth-highest civilian honour Padma Shri award from President of India Pranab Mukherjee according to The Hindu.

In 2012, she got the Asian Business Leaders forum Trailblazer award. In 2010, she won the Enterprise Asia Women Entrepreneur of the year award. From 2011 to 2015, she got listed 50 most influential women in business in India from Fortune magazine’s annual.

Aaj Pakao provides a comprehensive range of ready-to-cook products that are accessible to everyone, including those who do not know how to cook. It was created in response to the founder surviving on canned food in the United States and returning to India to discover that canned food is expensive in our country. As a result, there was a large, untapped market of people looking for the experience of cooking authentic, homemade Indian food without the added pressure of extensive preparations or culinary skills. Aaj Pakao is a people-centric brand that focuses on meeting the cooking needs of Indian consumers - people between the ages of 25 and 40 can access these products and use them to prepare various delicacies that are also regionally specific in India. They already supply in India and around the world and plan to expand their product portfolio in the future.

They sought to address the prevalent issues in the ready-tocook segment. For example, their packaging is designed so that the products can be stored at room temperature for up to a year without being damaged. This is due to the use of retort technology; because they do not require refrigeration, they have benefited both their B2B and B2C clients. They also serve authentic food from various parts of India, the preparation for which is otherwise extensive. As a result, they are able to provide variety, taste, and a longer shelf life with Aaj Pakao products. Each gravy, such as Pav Bhaji, Mangalorean Ghee Roast, Goan Xacuti gravy, and Chettinad gravy, represents a different region of India.

The ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat market is expected to reach INR 4800 crore by 2024, growing at an 18% CAGR. They have experienced rapid growth as a company, increasing revenue from INR 3 lakh in the first year to INR 40 lakh in the second. There is massive market demand from all over India and around the world. Today, Aaj Pakao produces nearly 15-20 tonnes of product per month and sells to customers in Indian cities and countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, and various African nations.

The Journey As a Woman Entrepreneur

“There is a saying: a thousand-mile journey begins with a single step. I am glad I took that step when I returned to India and launched Aaj Pakao. My entrepreneurial journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. While studying and working in the US, I relied heavily on canned food. But when I returned to India, I found a lack of such options. There were hardly any ready-to-cook options for Indian consumers, and the existing ones were expensive or lacked taste and nutrition. It was tough initially but became very exciting by the second year. I have been ably supported by my husband, who gave me strength even in times of doubt. Today, we are hitting more than INR 1 crore in revenue!”

In her previous avatar, the Founder Prachi Patil worked as a project manager for a large corporate house. That was a unique experience that demanded a distinct mindset and skill set. The role of Founder and CEO of Suzu Agro is different–it is not limited to a single task. Her responsibilities include problem solving, team building, and product development. As a founder, she believes that you must be willing to do anything to deliver results and ensure that the job is completed.

The team is currently small, with each member assigned a specific task. Furthermore, each of them has some experience with the tasks at hand. The team does not attack multiple problems at once, but rather prioritizes and takes on one problem at a time,

attempting to resolve it accordingly. They plan and streamline their tasks to keep things focused. They also make certain that everything is documented in order to avoid future confusion.

Women are making strides in every field, including entrepreneurship. Many female-led startups are making waves today, with one recently filing for an IPO. The founder is pleased to acknowledge that, in comparison to a few years ago, many policies in the business world today are assisting women in coming forward and excelling in their careers or the entrepreneurial space. Much is being done, from period leave to maternity policies. It is an excellent time to be a woman entrepreneur in India, and the government has aided them with working capital and other initiatives. However, encouraging women in Tier 2 and 3 cities to come forward and bring their ideas to fruition by providing them with a platform is necessary. There is a lot of talent in these areas that needs to be nurtured.

Achievements and Future Plans

Despite being only a year and a half old, Aa Pakao has done exceptionally well. They have a global presence, which the Founder considers to be one of their most significant achievements. They were recently named one of India’s top 500 challenger brands. We were chosen as the most efficient startup model of the business year by MIT ADT University Pune. Aaj Pakao was also recognised by Start-up India, and they were given the opportunity to showcase their products at one of the first conventions they organized among the top 400 brands in India. They have also increased revenue and introduced new products to the market.

Prachi aims to have a presence for her brand in all countries with a large Indian population, particularly in Indian major supermarkets and Indian superstores. Also, within India, she would like to see Aaj Pakao present in all market trends and general trends with A and A+ ratings, as well as in areas with a young population. She has an objective to broaden their portfolio and cater to a wider range of customers, including students, travelers, office workers, working women and men, and so on.

Aaj Pakao hopes to create an extensive range of ready-to-cook Indian food products from every culinary region in India in the future. They will also allow for the customization of taste and ingredients, as well as targeting domestic and global audiences looking for delicious, healthy, and easy-to-cook food options. They intend to increase capacity in manufacturing and retail channels in India and all major markets where Indian food is popular. Plans are in the works to expand their product line to include a variety of sauces, pastes, and gravies catering to a variety of cuisines such as Indian, Italian, Chinese, Thai, and others. They also want to serve the unorganized and underserved B2B market, where there is a high demand for large order sizes but a scarcity of quality suppliers. They also intend to seek venture funding from a like-minded investor in the future to fuel their expansion plans.

Higher Education Being Pushed Towards A Hybrid Model Of Teaching & Learning

Covid-19 has driven higher education toward a hybrid paradigm of teaching and learning, the same way, just as it has revolutionized our working environment. According to the report by PwC India as well as the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), both teachers and students have a strong preference for blended learning, which combines physical as well as virtual learning through classrooms and online platforms.

The analysis, which was titled “Re-Envisioning higher education through digital adoption”, is based on a research of management, staff, and students performed in the second half of 2020 at over 50 central, state, and private higher education institutions to assess the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak.

It demonstrates that during the outbreak, online degrees and certification courses are gaining acceptance among these institutions. According to the survey, 89% of institutes have integrated technology solutions, however, 64% of management has had difficulty integrating digital technologies.

Institutes have been in difficulty as a result of the pandemic’s exceptional interruption of normal operations since its inception early last year. According to the survey, one out of every four institutes postponed regular fee collection to address the financial impact, and one out of every three institutes curtailed capital investment.

A 43 percent of higher education institutions undertake online admission tests, with 26% using digital promotion as an entrance method, indicating a substantial shift toward digitalization. Apart from the shortage of a one-stop digital solution for all tasks and the struggle for faculties to keep students involved and motivated, connectivity concerns — only 42% of urban households have an internet connection — are regarded as the main hindrance in the digital journey of the universities.

According to the report, 58 percent of students want to take certification classes, while 35 percent want to take degree courses. Sixty percent of students said they would consider pursuing a supplementary online degree from a different college in addition to their present one. Fifty-three percent of students are interested in taking an online course through a hybrid or university-owned platform.

As per the study, blended learning is the most successful for 46 percent of professors. While 62 percent of respondents said moving to an online model was difficult, 83 percent believe learners can quickly absorb topics online. Students have the majority of the prerequisites for online learning, and 96% are happy with the current online course delivery.

According to the study, the institutes’ management is actively seeking partnerships with edtech companies.

It also states that 82 percent of professors support the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which prioritizes tech-enabled learning, and that 58 percent of institute administrations are ready to execute policy reforms.

Technology adoption had been occurring previously, but the outbreak has hastened it, according to Ashok Varma, leader, social sector development, PwC.

“The hybrid model that has formed is intriguing. Because no

offline classes were held during the lockdowns, this is primarily the result. We didn’t foresee such a dramatic shift, but the preference for a hybrid, blended model is evident. Over 85 percent of management replies indicate a desire to pursue holistic IT solutions,” he says.

Over 47% of faculty respondents agree that online education is the way of the future. As a result of this shift, physical infrastructure and facilities can no longer be the primary criteria for students selecting a college.

“Softer attributes of an institute, such as placement history, diversity of course curricula, and competent and experienced professors, will be more appropriate now,” Varma adds.
