EARLY LIFE OF MARK ZUCKERBERG

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born in White Plains, New York, on May 14th, 1984. He was born to an educated family, being the second of four children and the only son to the family. Edward Zuckerberg is Marks’ father, he is a dentist who also had a dental practice next to the family house, and his mother, Karen Zuckerberg is a psychiatrist. Arielle, Randi and Donna are Mark’s three sisters and all of them were raised in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Mark at an early age had developed an interest in computer programming. At the age of twelve, Mark Zuckerberg had created a messaging program that was named ‘ZuckNet’, which was implemented by him as an inter-office communication system for his father’s dental practice.

He showed signs of success in his early age, due to which his parents hired a computer programming tutor at the time when he was still in high school in order to provide him with some private lessons. His parents made him enrolled in a prep school in Hampshire. There he showed excellent results in literature and science, also received a degree in classics. After getting graduated from prep school, Mark Zuckerberg enrolled himself at Harvard University.

At the time when Mark Zuckerberg was at Harvard University, he built programs like CourseMatch that helped students to choose their subjects according to the lists of courses from other users. The other program that he built was FaceMash, he created this by hacking the database of Harvard. Both the programs had become wildly popular, but it was supposed to be inappropriate due to which the university made it shut.

Mark Zuckerberg had partnered with his friends in order to create a social networking site. The website was only allowed within Harvard students to connect with each other. It officially went live in June 2004 and was named as “The Facebook”.

After the second year, Mark Zuckerberg dropped out from the college as his focus was to pursue Facebook for full-time. By the end of 2004, the website had reached to one million users. Facebook grew from a company that experienced various legal troubles to a company that is being used worldwide.

This affects not only adults and older people, but also children who spend time on tablets or use laptops for school-related activities.

According to recent reports, Computer vision syndrome is an eye condition caused by spending long periods in front of a laptop, television, or computer. Over some time, repeated computer usage affects the eyes. “Computer Vision Syndrome affects 60 million people worldwide. Computer vision syndrome or digital eye strain causes burning and prickling in the eyes, as well as dryness, heaviness, redness, and trouble holding the eyes open for long periods”.

Doctors agree that people nowadays spend the majority of their time on a computer or laptop for 12 hours. When you read a book, you can get up and go anywhere you want in 30 to 40 minutes, but you can’t do that when working on a computer. For hours, people do not get up. The term “computer vision syndrome” was coined as a result of this. Dry eyes, swollen eyes, watery eyes, and muscle fatigue are all signs of this.

Here are few suggestions for keeping your eyes safe when operating on a tablet or laptop.

• The computer screen should be located directly in front of or just below the eyes. The computer should not be put directly in front of the eyes. The higher the screen is above the eyes, the greater the focus on the eyes would be.

• Antiglare lenses should always be used while operating on a regular monitor or laptop. Antiglare lenses should be used in the frames of those who wear them. Those that do not have glasses should wear plain antiglare glasses. Antiglare glass can also be used on the computer screen.

• Every storm hour requires a break, and the eyes should be quickly washed 5 to 10 times to ensure that water enters all regions of the eye and maintains the eyes moist.

If you have an issue with your eyes, see a doctor right away to get medication, so you don’t get a potentially dangerous disease.

Perform these eye exercises.

• Do stretching exercises as well as eye exercises.

• It’s important to keep in mind that the air from the Air Conditioner (AC) should not be directed directly into your eyes.

• Protect your eyes from some kind of bright light; if there is clear light from a lamp or tube light on the screen; avoid it as it will damage your eyes.

• When operating on a computer or laptop some people turn off the light. This should not be done. While working on the screen, adequate lighting is needed.

Methods of protection

1. Visit the doctor if any symptoms remain.

2. Just wear glasses while working. Wear blue contact lenses or buy a pair of blue-blocking glasses.

3. Do not use your computer, television, or phone in the dark.

4. Keep your desktop, laptop, and phone at least one and a half feet away from your eyes.

5. Apply eye drops to your eyes if they are dry.

6. Take regular breaks when working on the computer or laptop. Remove your eyes from the screen after a half-hour break, shut your eyes, and sit for 1-2 minutes to relax your eyes.

7. Eating Green vegetables (which are high in vitamin A) will help you maintain good eye health. The antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects of the nutrients lutein and zeaxanthin found in green leafy vegetables protect our eyes.

In the middle of May, I had the idea of starting something new.

I have always wanted to be my own boss. Couldn’t accept the corporate culture where someone else decides what is important for me, when I should take leave and where I need to justify my every step. For approximately three months, I worked solely on its planning and documentation, as well as how to proceed forward. “ I proudly call myself the son of Mr. Sanjay Singla and Ms. Puja Singla. Without my dad’s support, I could not have achieved even a single milestone in my career. He was always there for me, always guiding me by giving examples of his own experiences. He never really stopped me to pursue my dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Whenever I was under pressure or was facing losses in the business, he was ready to support me both morally and financially. My mother always made sure that I don’t skip my meals and was someone who would always ask if I needed any help from her. My little brother (Kanav) sometimes helped me with some important decisions. My Family celebrated my every little achievement and supported me during my bad times. When others did not believe me, when everyone thought that starting my startup by leaving my job was a bad idea, my family was there with me. The best days were when schools and colleges were open and students were seen rushing to school in neat and tidy uniforms with bags in their shoulders and sometimes running with those heavy bags to not get late. After reaching school, to stand for morning prayers and then some physical activities, after that straight to the classrooms filled with our classmates. The same way for college, when students were always confused with what to wear today, what period to bunk and go to the canteen, etc. Those days now seem to be just a memory to cherish.

An education center is the best public policy tool available to raise skills. While school/ college time can be fun along with raising social skills and social awareness if we look from an economic point of view the primary point of being in school/college was that it helped in increasing a child’s ability. But the arrival of COVID-19 has led to the departure of students going to education centers.

Facebook introducing the Newest Shopping AI

For those of you have ever daydreamt of being able to click photo and buy it, whether it’s your favorite celebrities’ suit or the things that they use very often, a giant social media company Facebook has proclaimed it’s moving ahead toward e-commerce game with a brand new and unique shopping experience that is powered by AI.

On May 19, 2020, in a Facebook Live, Mark Zuckerberg (Founder& CEO of Facebook) has made a statement a snap-and-shop feature that will allow users to purchase, sell and identify products seamlessly all over the Facebook platform. An auto-tagging feature – is coming on the Facebook page very soon, now autofill product description upon uploading, facilitate it to rank in search and share or exchange information in all languages. The company has the intention to make all images shoppable across its app, and in time, videos too.

Though Facebook’s new shopping AI doesn’t have users-facing names like Alex, the co-founder Sean Bell named it GrokNet to represent the scale that can analyse data very frequently. Actually, created at GrokStyle, a start-up co-founder by Bell and invested by Facebook, this universal AI model leverages computer version to recognize fine-grained product attributes from the dozens of images.

On Facebook Ait blog, the Bell has explained about how their GrokNet’s product work simultaneously analyse billion of disparate verticals like a car, clothing, and home goods. “We built, trained, and deployed a model with 83 loss functions across seven data sets to combine multiple verticals into a single embedding space. For some of the tasks that are really difficult, you need to apply a very large weight on the loss function and you need to apply many images for every batch when training. For easier data sets, you can use a small weight, and just a very small number of images per batch. We then scaled this up across all different data sets and then figured out a way of how to combine everything at once, without compromising on any one of the tasks. We use weekly supervised learning, where a model is arranged in a feedback loop to automatically create additional training data.”

“We’re building a system that can look at a picture of your outfit, segment each piece of clothing that you’re wearing, and organize them into a digital close, allowing you to shop anything in the context of what you won,” said Tamara Berg (Facebook AI Researcher). In Future iterations, Facebook is hoping to launch an AI lifestyle assistant that helps users in different areas like AR try-outs to share with friends, wardrobe management, personalized recommendations of products to purchase, and many others. Facebook has been testing augmented reality with advertising brands such as Ray-Ban, NYX, and NARS that allow consumers to try sunglasses, lipstick, and other things virtually.

Trekkers Adapting to COVID-19 Norms, are Exploring New Tracks

Trekking is a social sport, loved by wanderers. Just imagine yourself climbing up to the Himalayas. The satisfaction of reaching to the top and sitting on a cliff, enjoying the enormous surrounding from the top will take away, all your stress. The more realistic way would be to imagine yourself there with a hot cup of tea along with a bowl of Maggi in the chilly weather!

Climbing through the Himalayas will assure an experience that can never be forgotten. The willpower to start and finish the trek is a motivation in itself. But trekking was forced to be at a halt for some time due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has taken the world by a storm.

The most difficult days faced by trekkers were the time of lockdown when they were forced to lock themselves down at home for a long period. It is extremely difficult for trekkers to live in four-cornered rooms, who are used to live in tents on the lap of nature. No air condition can provide the cool breeze that nature can give. A pure freshness of tropical forest is everything that a wanderer needs. The pandemic hit hard like a termite who ripped through the layers and made its presence felt. When the entire country was in lockdown, train journeys were on hold and trek routes were forbidden territories.

When the lockdown was unfolding slowly, the paths for trekkers were gradually opening too but just like other guidelines, the trekkers also have to get adapted to the new COVID norms. It seems like after a long time, the trekkers are reconciled with their backpacks and jackets filled with dust.

Three months back, when the coronavirus was calmly unfolding, a pastor and trekker from Mohali, Daniel Francis looked forward at the journeys to several Himalayan treks. He picked one to Bhrigu Lake, which is one of the well-known routes along Manali’s Himalayan trekking trail. “I plunged into action, as I enjoyed a trek to Hatu Peak. It’s easy if you can drive to Barog from Chandigarh and then take the next stop at Narkanda, which is the beginning of a seven-kilometer trail to the artistic Hatu temple,” shares Francis.

Surrendering to nature is what trekkers love to do and by inhaling the much-needed dose of oxygen and embracing the world of nature with a walk on the wild side. A Chandigarh-based trekker, Jashan Chatwal states that whenever a trek in the Himalayas is planned, he not only looks forward to climbing, tent stays, make-shift bathrooms, or the delicious meat curries but also the break from all the noises that exist in the urban lives. “I have been exploring local urban hikes and forgotten parts of the city, discovering gorgeous dead ends and pretty houses around where I live,” says Chatwal.

It is said that walking in nature is something where you can be lucky to witness a thousand miracles. A passionate hiker, Sheena Singh emphasizes the view, “You have to be super present and that’s what trekking is, it’s being in the moment. It’s not being somewhere else. It’s being in the right now. With COVID-19 numbers going up, I am concerned about the possibility that trails may close again which is why it’s sensible to follow the local guidelines and maintain a physical distance. That means, for instance, avoiding popular trails or peak times.”

When one decides to do something, nothing can come in their way. Just like the world has resumed with the guidelines being followed, trekking has also resumed, adapting itself to new COVID norms. The most common challenges that can be faced when you are on trekking will be interacting and adjusting with locals, evening camaraderie, sharing stories with people around, and then the warm hugs. A lot might have been changed when you go for trekking next time but in the end, you will be mesmerized with the beauty of nature anyhow. The world might have changed but still, the sky will be the same as always.
