EASTER PARTIES

Easter Outdoor Picnic CARLY STEVENSON FROM SASSY SNAPS PERTH HOPPED INTO THE EASTER SPIRIT WITH THIS ADORABLE SPRING TIME BUNNY PICNIC.

13

For Easter this year, we worked on a lot of elements for this shoot ourselves. We really enjoyed finding new pieces and graphics for this year's Easter picnic. Sticking with the traditional pastel colour palette, we decided on a small picnic in the park complete with some beautiful pastel rugs, cushions, and teepee. Our small Easter hunt around the picnic area was a cute touch, and my son Sam especially loved going around to each sign and picking up the chocolate eggs which he collected in his little pail. We sat down with a platter of home baked sweets and the most stunning Easter bunny cake by Chiara, with a custom bunny ear cake topper by Emily from XOXO Designs. Sam loved running in and out of the teepee we had set up (highly recommend for any small or large picnic in the park for all ages as they look amazing and are easy to set up and pack down and they are wonderfully cosy). For a nice Easter touch, we had beautiful and simple bunny masks. They were placed on plates from Favor Lane Party Boutique. They looked amazing! We also made sure we didn’t forget our little baskets of Easter eggs for the four of us. We added a touch of Spring with floral elements in both the cake stand and bunny cake, as well as a few bunches hidden around the picnic area. g

Spring Time in Paris WHAT'S BETTER THAN SPRING? SPRING IN PARIS OF COURSE! ALI FROM STYLISH SOIREES THREW THE MOST AMAZING PARISIAN

SOIREE FOR HER YOUNGEST DAUGHTER, SOPHIE AND WE ARE PINK WITH ENVY!

As Audrey Hepburn once said, ‘Paris is always a good idea.’ Thus, the idea for the Parisian party was born. Ali from Stylish Soirées’ inspiration for this party stemmed from an exquisite image of the London Peggy Porshen cake parlour. The baby pink exterior with gorgeous pink roses sprawling across the door and a vintage pink bicycle, with more pink blooms spilling out of the basket, stole Ali's heart. Her youngest daughter, Sophie, had her heart set on a Paris party as well because, let’s face it, she likes the crepes and macarons...and of course the Eiffel Tower! Stylish Soirées was completely sold on the colour theme when she saw the divine ‘pink and peach’ dessert plates and matching cups from Favor Lane Party Boutique. Ali knew Viktoria Saar was the perfect photographer to capture the scene, the finer details and the sweetness of these gorgeous girls. How do you say? Heure de la photo! Photo time! The next decision was the venue. After many joint ventures with Darlings’ Day Out, Ali knew this would be a perfect venue for the pink and pretty theme she had in mind. Combined with the irresistible lure of the children being entertained and pampered with their pamper party activities of mani-pedis and cupcake decorating, this was a no-brainer! Ali wanted to create an atmosphere for the children that exuded elegance and style but still wanted it to be soft, pretty and childlike. The circular mesh backdrops with the floral garland, from Darlings’ Day Out, were perfect for the pretty pale pink ‘Sophie’ signage from Perfectly Created 4 U to take centre stage. The dessert table was a gorgeous combination of soft pink tulle, pretty florals in pink and peach blush and the hand sprayed gold Eiffel Tower with twinkle lights, were reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower at night. The cake, made by Stylish Soirées, was a red velvet mudcake with white chocolate ganache layers, fresh florals and the beautiful gold ‘Ooh la la’ cake topper, by Perfectly Created 4 U, which sat next to a mini replica of the Eiffel Tower. Stunning handcrafted ‘Paris’ themed biscuits and macarons, by Cakes 2 Celebrate by Lisa, filled the 18

table with more sweetness! All the guests were treated to pink lemonade and a foot soak before they chose their colour for their mani-pedis! Not to mention the cupcake decorating activity for those waiting for their pamper session. The birthday girl was dressed in a beautiful soft pink tulle and white lace dress from Coco Blush Boutique and loved swirling her way from the manicure to the macarons! The long lunch table was perfectly paired with the divine pastel pink cross back chairs from Allegra and Grace chairs. Hints of gold made an appearance in the candelabras, table runner and the tableware from Favor Lane Party Boutique. The lolly cart was the parfait locale for a scrumptious selection of sweets or ‘bonbons’ and a pink and blush balloon garland by Stylish Soirées. Oodles of crates, vases and flowers set the French sidewalk scene with a gold quintessential Parisian style street lamp to boot! When it was time to say Au Revoir, Golden lolly bags with hand made chalk name tags sat waiting to be given out, the perfect favour for a perfect day. g

AN EGGS-TRA SWEET PICNIC PASTELS ARE PERFECT FOR EASTER! WITH THAT IN MIND, RIMA FROM MRS H EVENTS TEAMED UP WITH SOME INCREDIBLE TALENT TO BRING AN EGGS-TRA SWEET EASTER PICNIC TO LIFE

23

Easter is near and what better way to celebrate than with the sweetest Easter picnic!

in games and in such a pretty setting, the girls enjoyed grabbing their milk bottles, even going for an extra 2 or 3, while indulging on their I wanted to create a soft, feminine and fun Easter chocolate Easter eggs. I would say it was a win for themed party, filled with lots of activities to keep all! the girls occupied and excited. When it comes to choosing a venue it is important to make sure it fits perfectly with your event, and I chose, The B- Space in Breakfast Point as this was the perfect space for us. With the venue having artificial grass, it created a perfect alternative to escape the rainy weather as this picnic definitely needed an outdoor setting! Being a lover of pastel colors, the soft, milky shade balloons were the inspiration, adding a little rose gold, teal, and gold foil balloons really complemented the soft pastel shades, giving it that EGGS-TRA look that is sure to be on trend.

When it comes to a table setting, who doesn't love a little personalisation? You can imagine the girls excitement, finding their name tags and personalised cotton favor bags filled with goodies. Any personalised item is sure to make anyone feel extra special, along with the cutest cutlery and pastel tableware sets, the adults wished it was their own party! A cupcake workshop really got the girls interacting together and some hands on decorating, enjoying and learning new skills. This sure kept them busy and happy since they could enjoy all the cupcakes that they had decorated.

If there is anything more suitable for an Easter We also created a garden of pastel florals flowing picnic it is to have an Easter egg hunt plus a down the walls, which completed the style of milk bar. Personally I find it so hard to get my softness, truly bringing an Easter picnic to life. g child to drink more milk!, Thus having it included

Cherry Blossoms, Marshmallows and Loads of Love SWEETNESS AND LIGHT WAS THE THEME OF ELLA'S FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY, STYLED IN CHROME, SOFT BLUSHES, THE PALEST OF PINKS AND THE PUREST OF WHITE BY AV IDEAS

27

To celebrate our precious little Ella turning 1, we gathered family and friends and threw a party full of sweetness and light and loaded with love! Inspired by the comeback of chrome in 2019 and the delicate whimsy of the cherry blossom tree, we set out to celebrate both beauty and strength, just like our little Ella. The Joinery’s blank canvas is the perfect space to bring any vision to life. We dotted the ceiling with fairy light stars and anchored the space with our Cosmo chrome furniture range, including the stately Cosmo King Tables, Cosmo dry bars and stools, adding some cosy velvet lounges in the palest of pink too. Next Event’s cherry blossom trees were the perfect addition to bring height atop the tables, like clouds floating mid-air. Stem Design Florals accented the room with pretty blooms in musk and lolly pinks with pops of green. When the whole family is involved, it’s so important to create spaces to help children celebrate too, so we made sure there were plenty of zones for kids to enjoy like the cubby house, play tables, marshmallow tree and fairy floss wall. Interactive party favours are always a great way to create memories and enjoy new experiences together, so inviting our beautiful friends at Kind. Sir Leatherware to come and hand stamp leather rounds with our guests for them to take home was a no-brainer. To make sure no precious moment went uncaptured, Faith from Faith Imhoff Photography was at the ready for the afternoon. The Joinery's catering arm, Chez Nous, are known for their personalised menus and attention to detail and have an amazing ability to capture a celebration’s theme and deliver this onto the table and into guests’ tummies. The tables were generously laden with antipasto, canapés and desserts fit for a queen (aka. our Ella). We grazed the afternoon away and rolled home at dusk! Ella and big sister, Zara, wore pretties from Bella & Lace at Mama’s Home (dresses), Bow Baby (hair bows) and Fawn & Finch (shoes). g

KIP'S SECOND BIRTHDAY RAVE KIP'S SECOND BIRTHDAY PARTY WAS FULL OF FUN COLOURS AND DECOR! LOTS OF BALLOONS, STREAMERS AND PERSONAL

TOUCHES WERE FEATURED ON THE DAY.

31

Primary colours and personalisation were the main elements at Kip's second birthday party rave. The bright balloons and equally bright tablecloths definitely left an impact upon entering the room! In addition to a large personalised poster adorning the backdrop, there were also foil balloons spelling out Kip's name, as well as personalised cups and foiled napkins! The gable box favours were also personalised. In true dedication to the era that birthed 'rave', the party was decorated with plenty of 90's kitsch decor, including lava lamps. No rave would be complete without shiny sliver elements, especially disco balls, and these also featured at the party. After feasting on a smorgasboard of salmon, dips and bagels, the kids all got to enjoy playing in the jungle gym. g

ISAAC IN THE LAND OF THE DINOS ISAAC'S LOVE OF DINOSAURS WAS BROUGHT TO LIFE BY THE VERY TALENTED ROCHELLE FROM POP THE BALLOON! WHO MADE

SURE ALL THE KIDDIES LEFT THE PARTY FEELING LIKE THEY HAD JUST BEEN TO A REAL-LIFE JURASSIC PARK!

35

The rise of boys parties in recent years is definitely starting to rival the extravagance and opulence traditionally only seen in girls’ parties to date. Dinosaurs are one of those themes that is high on the list of ‘must haves’ for boys right now. So naturally, when I received the call to create a dinosaur themed birthday party – capturing the essence of everything our birthday boy loved about dinosaurs (the prehistoric creatures, their size, the natural landscape and adventure), I was only too happy to step up to the party styling plate and oblige by creating a dinosaur themed party to meet every little boy’s dream. Featuring rich earthy tones of forest greens, natural woods and fun Jurassic World tableware; our birthday boy highlighted that he had a particular love of ‘red T-Rex's’. So with this in mind, I set about creating lots of individual moments throughout the party decor where pops of red could have a moment to shine –beginning with the construction of a giant, life-sized T-Rex, created entirely out of red twisted balloons by Keen Creations. This then inspired the red custom Jurassic World cookies by Flyawaypineapple, claw foot cake pops by Cake Pop Mum and the cupcakes with luxuriant white buttercream swirl dripping in red icing by Sabilicious Cakes. Finally, there was the piece de resistance – the two-tiered red T-Rex birthday cake created by Kyla Daniels from Cakes by Kyla. The finishing touches are always in the details and for this, Little Wren Prints transformed my usual

36

blue party printables into tones of red so that this too would complement the red decorative accents within our typical earthy toned colour palette. The setting for this event was the client’s property, with plenty of open space for the children to run around and hunt for dinosaur eggs, which were provided as part of the included hosted entertainment. The space was equally perfect for one enormous red T-Rex who stood guarding the dessert table where pterodactyls flew overhead amongst the vines. Everywhere you looked, the children were met with more evidence that they had stepped back to prehistoric times, from the fully styled and catered dessert buffet with dinosaur backdrop and lush greenery, to the matching children’s party table which featured 5 large dinosaurs each holding a large red balloon in honour of the birthday boy’s favourite colour. The party was completed with face-painting and loads of fun party games which included a hunt for dinosaur eggs, a mix of traditional party games and concluded with an opportunity to dig a dinosaur out of its egg shell or simply decorate their own plaster dinosaur. At the end of the day, each child was loaded up with fun party favours including mega bubble wands with custom labels, party bags filled with Jurassic World trinkets and lots of yummy sweets and treats from the dessert buffet. g

THE WORLD FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY, PUT TOGETHER BY

THE STYLIST KATHY OF FANCY EVENTS AND PARTIES

Ayaana's first birthday was an epic adventure for all! Taking cues from the vintage travel aesthetic, Kathy from Fancy Events and Parties styled a gorgeous 'Around the world themed party' As Ayaana and her parents travelled to many countries, and had many guests from around the world, they thought it would be a great theme for this event! There were lots of fab touches, including the cake and cupcakes which were made by Kathy herself. A stunning balloon garland, made to emulate clouds, by Belle’s Decorations by Design framed the dessert table area. In addition, each table was decorated with various items meant to symbolise different countries of the world. Truly, around the world in a day! g

EASTER VEGGIE COOKIES WHAT YOU'LL NEED • • • • • • • • • •

Cookie dough Royal icing Wilton colour gels Edible paint Vegetable cookie cutters Rolling pin Toothpick Paintbrush (if using edible paint) Baking paper 8 icing bags (I use sandwich bags and clips)

1. Roll out your cookie dough and cut out some vegetable cookies, remembering to dip your cutter in corn flour in between so it doesn’t stick. Place on baking paper, on a cookie tray and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes before baking so they keep their shape.

5. Outline the leaves with the green thick icing for your vegetables, then fill them in with your thinner icing. Once it has dried, add some leaf details with your outline icing. 6. Once your cookies are completely dry, you can personalise them for your loved ones and add some names. Professionals use projectors to write on cookies, but I use a piece of paper as my guide. You can go over the icing again, so start very lightly. If you make a mistake, carefully clean the writing off with a tissue and start again. 7. Once the writing has dried, paint it with some edible art paint, I have chosen gold. A perfect way to decorate a cake or your Easter table! g

2. Make up some royal icing in two bowls, one a toothpaste consistency for the outlines and the details and one a shampoo consistency for flooding the cookie. To colour the icing I use Wilton gel colours in green, orange and purple. Separate the flooding icing into 4 bowls, colour your icing and keep one white. Place them in icing bags as you go. Do the same with the outline icing. 3. Outline the vegetable with the thick icing, using orange for the carrot and purple and white for the turnip. 4. Fill in your carrot cookie with your orange flooding icing, popping any air bubbles with a toothpick. Fill in your turnip with purple and white. Take your toothpick and swirl the icing to blur the line where the purple and white meet. Then remove any air bubbles. Leave them to dry a while.

EASTER EGG CAKES WHAT YOU'LL NEED As a busy mum I don’t have the time for complicated recipes. So here is a quick, one bowl recipe for you, for Easter. 1. Place all of the cake ingredients into a bowl and stir until combined. Spoon the mixture into cupcake cases and bake at 180 degrees for approximately 20-25 minutes, until firm to the touch. 2. While the cakes are baking, make the ganache. I usually also eat the coloured eggs I am not using! Chop up 200 grams of dark chocolate and place in a bowl with 100 mls of pure cream. Microwave for 35 seconds and then whisk until smooth. 3. Once smooth, leave to cool.

Cakes: 125g of butter (melted in the microwave) 1 1/2 cups of caster sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp coconut essence 1 1/2 cups of frozen raspberries (defrosted) 1/2 cup of milk 2 tbsp of Dutch cocoa 1 3/4 cups of self raising flour 2/3 cup of desiccated coconut Chocolate Ganache: 200g of dark chocolate 100ml of pure cream Decoration: Coconut flakes Mini eggs

4. Once the cakes are baked and cool the chocolate ganache would have thickened. Spoon some of the ganache on top of each cake. 5. Top with some delicious coconut flakes. Easy as and look fantastic! g

INSPIRED BY LOVE THE AMAZING BRIDGET O'DONNELL FROM CRUMBS WITH LOVE STOPPED BY CONFETTI HQ TO TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT HERSELF AND HER LOVE OF ALL THINGS SWEET

Bridget, tell us a little about Crumbs with Love? Crumbs With Love is all about modern, French buttercream coated cakes that look inviting and taste delicious. I always say that it's my goal to get eyes lighting up for both big and little kids alike and everyone licking their fingers & going in for seconds. Crumbs With Love makes celebration cakes with a few cake popsicles, cookies, donuts etc thrown in there too. How did you start baking and what made you decide to turn it into a business? I became a mum at 40 years of age and I was determined to be the mum who was able to make her child's first birthday cake. I'd spent some time living in Montreal, Canada studying and working as a pastry cook and I had loved that period in my life so thought I'd give it a shot. Turns out I wasn't too bad at it - the cake held up and the party was a success. I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed getting creative and really it was just another form of expressing that all encompassing love I feel for my child. I've been a Detective with the NSW Police Force for most of my life. My job is incredibly rewarding but oftentimes quite emotional, joyless and about keeping to 'the facts'. Baking and bringing sugar highs, sprinkles, and sparkles to people's lives and 47

48

literally colouring outside the lines on my baking creations balances perfectly with being a Detective. Two little girls under four years old later and I'm still baking and still bringing joy to my local community via cake!

What inspires your creations? My creations are inspired by love...seriously. Cakes are ordered to celebrate people and mark milestones. People don't order cakes for people they don't love and cherish. So what I want is for those feelings to be reflected in my cakes. I want my cake sitting on that table to capture the love felt by the person for whom it was made. I like to create something unique to the purchaser. Nothing is less satisfying than producing a cookie cutter cake that has been seen time and time again. Tell me how you feel about the person then let me do my thing and I'm in creative cake-maker heaven! Tell us about your favourite creation to date? So many favourites! Look, by default, most of my cakes are for kids birthday parties. That is where most of my repeat business comes from which is lovely because I get to touch base with these families and little kids as they grow up each year. You're never going to get away from Disney movies when it comes to kids parties, but Disney doesn't have to 'be Disney'! I'm the baker who loves to move away from the typical tacky Disney look and extract the message lying beneath the surface in these gorgeous movies. Monsters University isn't a movie about monsters, it's about believing in yourself and working hard for a dream no matter how many times you're knocked down on the way. Frozen isn't a movie about a Princess needing to be saved by her Prince, it's about the bond between family, girl power, seeing true love in it's many forms and how love will defeat fear every single time (continued next page). 49

The Cars movies aren't about car races, they are about recognising true long-lasting friendships, slowing down enough to enjoy them and about how old-fashioned simple things are worth preserving and investing in. Creating these kinds of cakes and treats is me in my element –my eldest daughter's 4th birthday was based on Disney Cars. I turned our backyard into Radiator Springs and we celebrated the quirks and importance of family and friends. This one got all my creative juices flowing and I just loved taking a traditionally 'boys themed' party and making it gender neutral. The look on her little face was so rewarding and instantly justified the several 3am finishes.

What are your favourite cake and dessert trends at the moment? I love, love, love colour and texture. And I love seeing this applied in non traditional ways. I call it 'The Glamorous Mess' look. Black, navy and purple wedding cakes float my boat, and I really see couples getting bolder in their choices as they ask for their cakes to be an expression of who they are as people as opposed to going plain and demure. It's becoming classy to be bold, bright and different and I love that! If you could create any cake or dessert, what would it be? We all want what we can't have right? As a rule, I don't 'do sugar paste', but if there is any cake creator that I lust over, it's Elena Gnut from Russia (@elena_gnut_cake on Instagram). Her cakes are works of art and take hours upon hours in the making. They are made wholly from sugar paste but are void of all tackiness simply breathtaking. g

Easter at Confetti HQ Easter festivities at Confetti HQ were definitely floral inspired as our motto this year is 'Time to Bloom'. On a very cold yet sunny afternoon we created a simple flat lay with some adorable bunny and carrot cookies from the amazing Anne-Marie Molloy Cookies. We paired the cookies up with some partyware from the beautiful Easter range available at Favor Lane Party Boutique. And because we love glitter and bunnies, we were excited to add some little pastel glitter peeps with a chocolate egg tail from Glitter & Glue Designs. We also used cute metallic cutlery from Party She Said. As for our bunny, well we think she is definitely cute but time for her to be fired as she was not playing nice with the camera. Her floral dress is from Cotton On and her bunny ears are from our last year Easter shoot, made by Schooza Handmade and way to cute not to use again! g
