Dear Readers,

The end of the school year is upon us and I hope your children had a wonderful year of learning in person while bonding with friends and involving themselves in school activities and sports. Don’t forget to thank your teachers and administrators at your school for all their collective hard work and effort to educate and involve your children. They spend more time with our kids than we do during the week, and they spend more time with your kids than their own! I hope everyone can take a minute and write a note to someone in school who has make a positive impact on your child. Little things like that go a long way to keep our teachers feeling appreciated and inspired. If we’ve learned nothing else through the pandemic, health and family should be at the top of our priority list. Make the effort to involve yourself and attend your children’s games, events and activities. Make the time for yourself and your family to eat healthy and exercise. Gather your family and friends and reconnect with barbecues and celebrations. The biggest regrets are missed opportunities with those we love and cherish. This issue features awesome summer camps & weekly activities to keep you engaged all summer long. Use our camp directory to explore new avenues of interest or to further develop your children’s passions and talents. Summer is an exciting time for your children. Hopefully, vacations and sleeping in are a part of this summer, but consider a few sessions of camp to keep their physical, mental and emotions acuities developing and evolving. The Sports & Activities Directory is a wealth of information to peak everyone’s interest. Find some local events to attend, catch a baseball game or concert, enjoy a theater performance, or fireworks for 4th of July. Create beautiful traditions and memories with your family, neighbors and friends…that’s what we are all about! As we are about to celebrate 20 years of publishing, we couldn’t be more proud of what we do for our communities. It is truly an honor to highlight and promote the thousands of activities, events, sports, organizations, and businesses, not to mention our youth athletes and coaches in the cites of Coral Springs & Parkland. Please visit our Facebook page Coralspringsparklandsports&activities for all the most up to date news and happenings. Also, please mention the Sports & Activities Directory when you visit our advertisers, because we can’t do what we do without them! My best to you,

Dear Parkland Residents,

8

There are many occasions when I am reminded of how fortunate I am to be Mayor of this amazing City. Parkland is an incredible place and Catherine and I frequently remind one another of what a great decision we made in choosing to raise our children here. We will be reminded of it again on Mother’s Day on May 8th when we will celebrate all the mothers in our community who help make Parkland what it is. And on Memorial Day on May 30th we will remember those members of our community who proudly served our country’s armed forces and made the ultimate sacrifice while doing so. These contrasts illustrate, in very different ways, how special Parkland is. Again I was reminded of this recently when I had the wonderful opportunity to speak to the Solomon Leadership Program at the Chabad of Parkland. This program is founded on the concept that, only by influencing children, the leaders of tomorrow, can we create substantive, long-term change. Their leadership model is founded on the pillars of character, tolerance, communication, vision, empowerment, persistence, strategy, and judgment. After speaking to one of their classes and attending their graduation, I was reminded of the strength of Parkland, its residents, and its leaders. It seems that now more than ever, we are in need of leaders who lead by example, those who ‘walk the talk.’ I believe Parkland exemplifies this stellar mantra. Our families who lost loved ones in the tragedy are on a long-term journey and, day after day, they lead us to a world that is a safer place. Our former Mayor, now State Representative Christine Hunschofsky, works tirelessly to make our community and our State better. Michael Udine, now Mayor of Broward County, never ceases to amaze me with his energy working for the residents of Parkland and Broward County as a whole. Jared Moskowitz, who is now a Broward County Commissioner and is running for U.S. Congress, has done more at his young age than most do in a lifetime. His ability to work with people on both sides of the aisle would be the perfect addition to a Congress full of division. So as I spoke to the participants of the Solomon Leadership Program, as I watched the next generation of leaders graduate, I thought of how leaders shape cities, counties, states, and the country. I thought of how easy it is to look at our past to confirm how crucial leaders are to our present and future. And I thought, if we can judge tomorrow’s leaders on the quality of today’s leaders in our community, there is great hope for the future. If you would like to share your thoughts about leadership or you have questions or comments you’d like to share with me, I would love to hear from you. I can be reached via e-mail at rwalker@cityofparkland.org or via cell phone at (973) 390-1453. Of course, I am frequently available monthly at Parkland businesses and love to talk with residents there. I encourage you to visit the City’s website cityofparkland.org and click on the social media icon that you prefer, to ensure that you stay informed on events and helpful information.

Your Parkland Mayor,

Rich Walker

Dear Coral Springs Residents,

So many great things are happening in our fantastic city of Coral Springs. Maybe the most exciting thing that we are involved with in our city is the redevelopment of our downtown. Rod Sheldon and his team at Cornerstone are putting together a very exciting project with a Hyatt hotel, residences for rent and many great retail stores. There will be areas to stroll and sit in and LIVE MUSIC. Our whole City is looking forward to this landmark development, which will house various forms of entertainment for people of all ages! Across the street on the Northwest corner we’re looking forward to the next portion of our downtown redevelopment as Amera Corporation will also be a home to new downtown residents with various retail shops and many other wonderful amenities for our community. These projects will diversify our tax base and will help us keep our taxes low, while our community grows and has more offerings for entertainment and housing. Sunset Trails Townhomes will also come on line in the near future. The currently vacant 19.03 acre site is located on the north side of Wiles Road near the intersection at Coral Ridge Drive and Wiles Road. The proposed project seeks to build 147 townhome units and associated recreational amenities including cabana, pool, tot lot and walking trails. To learn about all of the projects and developments in Coral Springs, please visit www.coralsprings.org/workaroundthetown. We are so lucky to live in this City for many reasons, including our Volunteers, our First Responders, our local Hospital and the strong public schools in Coral Springs. The family orientation of our City and the countless amount of Entrepreneurs that call our city home are two of the reasons that make our City unique. Over the summer, please consider putting your child in Camp Broadway at the Center for the Arts and save July 4th for another outstanding show put on to celebrate our Country’s independence. For all other everts, please visit www.coralsprings.org/events. Lastly, if you have a concern that you would like to share with me, please email me at Sbrook@coralsprings.org or call me at 954-494-9872. You will also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at CSCommissioner1. If you would like your child to shadow me on a Friday and/or at a City Commission meeting, please call Luwam Ghermay at 954-344-5911. It is an honor and pleasure to serve as your Mayor! Warmly, Your Friendly Mayor,

Scott J. Brook Mayor of Coral Springs

NEED VS WANT: Make smart decisions with money, rather than emotional ones (always ask yourself: Do I NEED this or do I WANT it?). PAY YOURSELF FIRST: The first bill you should pay every month is to a savings account. Save a set percentage of your income (start with 10%) each month. GIVE BACK: Give to those less fortunate than you, even if it hurts a little. Just do not go beyond your means. Trust me…it will feel great! TREAT YOURSELF: Treat yourself, within reason, every once in a while. Depriving yourself is not healthy. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. PLAN TO LIVE - LONGER: In general, women live longer than men, so never stop saving and understand that women ultimately need to save approximately 25% more than men. Start that process now.

NEVER STOP LEARNING: Failing does NOT make you a failure. Failing helps us all to learn. Making minor financial mistakes will teach you lessons that will help with bigger financial decisions in the future. I know for me, there are so many important life lessons the women in my life have taught me - compassion, humility, perseverance, bravery and leadership, to name a few. I hope that this financial wisdom is one attribute I can add to the list of contributions as it relates to money management and planning for women and for all. At Eaton Financial Group, we believe that values matter and we live by ours every day: Live Well - Work Hard - Give Generously. To discuss this article or a financial topic of your concern/interest, contact us for a FREE cup of coffee (at our office or virtually), so we may offer a second (or first) opinion on your situation. Eaton Financial Group is a financial advisory firm focused on the best interests of their family of clients. Douglas J. Eaton, CIO of Eaton Financial Group, is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary, CDFA. Outside of work, Doug is first a husband and father. He also focuses on serving his community in the following roles: Board of Directors in the Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce, President of the Parkland Chamber of Commerce, mentor to DECA students, Race Director for the RUN 4 BEIGEL and volunteer for several other community-based organizations.

W

hen providing financial advice, I often find myself answering these common questions: “What would you do if it were your mother? Your daughter? Your family?” These are sometimes hard questions to answer, depending on the context of the conversation. But when it comes to the well being of my loved ones, it is important to prioritize financial management and planning, no matter what age or stage of life. So for all the mothers, daughters and loved ones who are women in my life and yours, below I’ve outlined what I am always teaching my own daughters, Lizzie and Caroline, to understand about money management - and what I believe could help any woman teach other women and girls about financial responsibilities.

Thanks to private sponsors our program is no cost to the families involved. We provide uniforms, equipment, pictures, trophies, a day at a Marlins game, a weekend in Ft Myers playing other Challenger teams, a year end picnic for all the families and more. Again, all these activities are provided at no charge. Although our target age group is 5–22 years old, many of our players are older as they have been in our program since the early years. Therefore, we now have a junior division from 5/12 years old and a senior division of 13+. Our games are Sunday afternoons at 3:30pm – 5:15pm from March- May. We play at fields throughout Broward County, so our players have home and away games. We presently play at fields in Coral Springs, Margate, Tamarac, Sunrise, Weston and Pembroke Pines. New players are always welcome. Challenger is also always looking for new sponsors and people interested in helping to run our program. Challenger is an all-volunteer organization and 100% of donated money goes directly to the program. REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Contact Randy Hibshman (954) 345-9329, rhibshman@bellsouth.net.

s a big, blended family of 7, we are always running around to make it to the next game, meeting, or practice. My siblings and I range all the way from age 6 to 24. So, you can only imagine the array of activities we get ourselves into to accommodate everyone’s different interests and passions. Thankfully there are many opportunities in our community for the whole family to stay busy. Emma, the youngest, is a dance maniac and loves going to ballet classes at the P-Rec. Leo IV, 8, can’t take his skates off the hockey rink with his best friends. Gabby, 15, is our next softball star and has been playing parkland softball and baseball since she was in elementary school. Anne, 16, found a community and sense of belonging with the JROTC program. All of which is only thanks to the supermom skills of our mom, Mayda, that coordinates and executes all of our schedules. Her extensive experience as a licensed realtor, has prepared her to be able to handle many moving pieces at the same time. When she is not shuttling the troop to their next destination, she is helping keep the zoo alive at our home! Together, my siblings have a dog, cat, goldfish, bunny, snake and four parakeets. I think we all follow in the footsteps of my stepdad, Leo Gordon III, as he is the most involved out of all of us! Leo is a board member of the Parkland Parks and Rec advisory board, Chairperson for the Parkland Days 60th Anniversary Celebration Committee, Vice

President of the Parkland Chamber of Commerce, is almost graduating the Parkland/ Coral Springs CERT training and just finished a season of Parkland Adult Softball league. Not only is he active on the field and in the community but he began to expand his education this year when he entered the executive program at the Jim Moran Institute. Not only has he set an example for all of us to get involved and stay active, but he has helped me personally find my own ways of getting involved. We often will go to town hall meetings, and I have had the honor to not only get to meet all the Parkland commissioners but also State Representative Christine Hunschofsky. Then, I began to participate with the Parkland Chamber, meeting other family run businesses in our community and soon after obtained a role to manage the social media accounts. I have also been able to volunteer for many amazing organizations but the one closest to our hearts is Parkland Buddy Sports. Practices, games, meetings, and everything in between often collide, and it takes a village to get everyone where they belong, but we always seem to find a way. Thankfully, our family has been operating MVP Environmental solutions, a full-service mold, water, and fire restoration company for over a decade and this has allowed all of us to have the flexibility to make it to all the games, shows and practices.

Parenting Children with Disruptive Behaviors E

Dr. Bianca Howard & Dr. David Yudell

very parent faces externalizing behaviors (acts of disruption, aggression, defiance, or anti-social intent) at some point during childhood. Young children are developing the ability to regulate their emotions and impulses, while adolescents are caught between desiring autonomy and dependency on parental figures. Whether you are going through the “terrible twos”, or dealing with an adolescent who believes they know best, parents need to set clear expectations and boundaries allowing children to learn what is expected of them. There is not a “one size fits all” solution, however, research suggests techniques and parenting behaviors which can minimize maladaptive behaviors (tantrums, oppositional / defiant behaviors). Here are some evidenced-based approaches. The Parent-Child Relationship - When children are cooperative it is easier for caregivers to stay engaged in their life. Positive familial interactions foster secure attachments in children leading them to feel loved, safe, and more receptive to parenting behaviors. Warm and accepting parenting styles are consistent predictors of favorable developmental outcomes in children, whereas hostility and rejection predict unfavorable outcomes (Buschgens et al., 2010). Disruptive behaviors cause caregivers to react to their children negatively, leading to excessive punishment or increased disengaged / permissive styles. The question becomes, how does one maintain a healthy and supportive parent-child relationship during times of conflict? Create Clear Expectations - Enforce the strictest boundaries on aggressive and anti-social behavior such as acts which cause physical damage to property, bodily harm, and excessive verbal aggression. Address other types of misbehavior next, asking yourself which behaviors are most disruptive at home, school or to relationships. Children need a clear message on what behavior is not acceptable and will receive a consequence. If a consequence is given it must be followed through on. Consistency is more effective in creating behavior change than giving punitive consequences. It is helpful to predetermine consequences instead of reacting to their child’s behavior in the moment. This will help prevent communicating punishments that are out of proportion in reaction to the negative emotion you are experiencing yourself. Remember to communicate in a supportive way, refraining from using statements that are rejecting, punitive or forbidding. Pick your battles - Try focusing on 3-5 realistic targeted behaviors that you would like to see change. Focus on the behaviors you would like to see from your

child, reinforce and build confidence. Implement a reward system - It is important to reward children with encouraging, positive feedback, but sometimes children need a little more motivation. Would you go to work every day if the only compensation you received was positive praise from your boss? Reward systems help children to learn to think about their behaviors while weighing the costs (i.e., consequence) and benefits (i.e., rewards). It is important to note, the younger the child, the greater the need for immediate gratification and visuals. Remember it is essential to follow through on the agreed reward for each behavior. Talk with your children about their emotions and understand why they push back - Children need to be taught about their emotions to understand there is a connection between their emotions and their behavior. Teach your children ways they can soothe intense emotions such as anger, sadness, or jealousy so there is a greater chance of preventing the occurrence of disruptive behaviors (Dewar, 2020). It is important to explain the reasoning behind certain rules or boundaries and why they are beneficial. Engage in discussions about what is fair and reasonable and try to refrain from statements such as “because I said so” or “I’m the parent and you’re the child”, which do not allow for greater understanding of difference of opinions. Approaching conflict in this manner models effective conflict resolution skills and allows for children to feel heard and that their feelings matter. By creating clear expectations for children to follow, implementing rewards and consequences, as well as teaching children how to cope with their emotions will help decrease the occurrence of disruptive behaviors. By focusing on the overall emotional tone of the relationship, instead of on the details of every disruptive behavior, parents and caretakers are more likely to remain a positive influence with more ability to steer their children’s development over the long-term. ven if your child is an expert swimmer or new to the water, pools and lakes can be dangerous areas for children. Considering that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-14. In fact, three children die each day from drowning. Here are 10 tips to keep your kids safe around water: 1. Kids can drown in just a few inches of water. Bathtubs, buckets and even toilets pose a drowning risk. Keep toilet lids closed. Store empty buckets and tubs upside-down so they don’t collect water. 2. Drowning can be very quiet. Don’t assume you’ll hear if a child is in distress. Children can drown in a few minutes without splashing or noise. 3. Maintain constant supervision of children around water. Have a designated adult watch children at all times. It’s ultimately the parent or caregiver’s responsibility — not the lifeguard’s — to supervise a child who’s swimming. Avoid distractions to supervision, such as reading, looking at your phone/tablet, preparing food or drinking alcohol. 4. Insist that your child wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket or personal flotation device (PFD) around natural bodies of water. Air-filled water aids (such as water wings, pool floats or noodles) do not count as a PFD and won’t protect against drowning. Verify that the proper equipment is being used or bring your own. 5. Learn CPR. If a child takes in water, minutes count and resuscitation should be started immediately. 6. Clear the pool and deck areas of toys so kids aren’t tempted to go near the pool area to play.

7. Enroll your child in swim lessons, and make sure they learn the five water survival skills: - When stepping or jumping into water over the child’s head, the child should be able to return to the surface. - Float or tread water for one minute. - Turn around in a full circle and find an exit from the water. - Swim 25 yards to the exit. - Exit out of the water. If in a pool, be able to exit without using the ladder. 8. Don’t assume a child that’s had swim lessons is immune to drowning. Almost half of children aged 10-17 that have drowned in a pool, reportedly knew how to swim. 9. Home pools should have at least a 4-foot-high enclosure fence and a self-latching gate. The gate latch should be high enough that children cannot reach it. Isolation fencing (i.e. fencing that separates and encloses the pool away from the rest of the yard) is more effective than perimeter fencing (where the pool and yard are enclosed together). For above ground pools, remove access ladders when not in use. 10. Pool covers and door alarms can add extra protection, but they shouldn’t be used in place of a fence. T

he 2022 Legislative Session is over, as is the special session convened by the Governor. While we completed policy work in Tallahassee, the budget and legislation that passed can still be vetoed by the Governor. Although there were several controversial issues, bills addressing homeowner’s insurance and affordable housing never got across the finish line. Five bills that I sponsored/prime-cosponsored did pass. HB 559: Occupational Licensure of Military Spouses, HB 899: Mental Health of Students, HB 963: Funding for Sheriffs, HB 1421: School Safety, and HB 343: Mental Health Professional Licensure. You can find information on these and other bills from the past session by visiting myfloridahouse.gov Additionally, I was able to secure over $5 million in the budget for District 96 and Broward County projects (pending the Governor’s veto). These include $600,000 for Eagles’ Haven and $200,000 for Liberty Park Improvements; in Margate $275,000 for Northwest Focal Point Senior Center and $500,000 for Stormwater Infrastructure & Canal Embankment Restoration; in Coconut Creek $600,000 for CyberResilience, Security Leadership and Disaster Recovery, $150,000 for Wastewater Conveyance System Improvements, and $200,000 for Wynmoor Potable Water Service Line Retrofit Project. Also in the budget are $149,537 for David Posnack Jewish Community Center - Senior Kosher Meal Program, $500,000 for COPD Readmissions, Pulmonary Center of Excellence, Holy Cross Health: $500,000 for SOS Children’s Villages - Infrastructure Improvements: $1,000,000 for Broward Medical Alert Team, $250,000 for the Code/Art Computer Coding Program, and $250,000 for the Covenant House Workforce Readiness Program. The budget also includes $26,914,328 for Loxahatchee Road, $25,000 for City of Parkland Community Cultural Events, and $90,000 for the Coral Springs Museum of Art. You can find all the budget documentation at myfloridahouse.gov/budget/2022. There are still many issues we should have dealt with this past session but didn’t. Please know that I read all your emails and your responses to our pre-session surveys, and I bring your concerns up in meetings and with amendments to bills. I will continue to bring attention to those issues that affect all of us and will work as hard as possible to bring results. The 2022 hurricane season officially begins June 1, 2022. Now is the perfect time to make your household preparedness plan and to stock up on supplies. This year, the State Legislature approved a two week Disaster Preparedness Tax Holiday from May 28 through June 10. Please take advantage of this opportunity to purchase hurricane supplies, such as batteries and flashlights. For more information on what items are eligible for tax free status, visit www.floridarevenue.com/disasterprep. For more information on preparing for a hurricane, visit www.floridadisaster.org/planprepare. The Florida Legislature also approved the Freedom Sales Tax Holiday to add to family summer fun. During this time, consumers can purchase qualifying recreation and outdoor items as well as admissions to entertainment and cultural events exempt from sales tax. For a list of all qualifying items, please visit www.Floridarevenue.com/freedomweek. I wish everyone a safe and wonderful summer and hope you have an opportunity to spend quality time with your family and to reconnect. Students are working towards meeting those data chat goals within their core subject areas along with having some fun. Ramblewood Middle teamed up with the Jason Taylor Foundation for the Panther Poetry Project. Ramblewood submitted many pieces of poetry written by our students. We had 3 students make it to the final, each placing in their perspective categories. Shout out to Mrs. Doner and her wonderful Poetry Club for spearheading and leading our students to writing amazing poetry. Volleyball & Flag Football seasons have come to an end. Ramblewood Boys Volleyball team made it the quarterfinals of the playoffs, but couldn’t pull it through with a win. Our Boys Flag Football team also qualified for the playoffs as well. They, too, were unable to bring home the win, but we are so proud of them for all their hard work and dedication. Moving into Spring sports, Track & Field has just begun, and we are looking forward to a great season. When it comes to electives, Ramblewood Middle School always shines. Our Symphonic

iverglades has been having fun while engaged in learning! Students are doing great with dual language, reading and math academic camps. In February, we hosted our first school wide i-Ready Green Party. It was a full day of celebrating student success and growth. We had so much fun recognizing students, listening to music, giving out awards, and decking out in green. In March, Riverglades hosted the 1st vocabulary.com jam tournament in Cadre 1. WOW! It was exciting, engaging and fun! The 5th grade students and teachers worked so hard to prepare for the March Madness tournament and are continuing to use vocabulary.com in the classrooms. ESOL students and their families had a blast at Math Game Night. The students enjoyed learning the rules of the academic games and were engaged in playing games with their families. We are looking forward to ESOL Science Game Night and future events. Riverglades families donated over $44,000 to the American Heart Association. That is amazing! Because of these donations, Coach and Administration will be slimed! Thank you for supporting the American Heart Association with your generous donations. Riverglades was so happy to be part of the City of Parkland Autism Awareness Event. The event at Pines Trails Park Amphitheater was a success and we were

able to sport our matching t-shirts and show support to our students and families. Our PTA members have been busy bees organizing fundraisers, events, and restaurant nights. During our Day of Service and Love, we collected donations to support the Humane Society, SOS Village, and our local food banks. Speaking of food, did you catch Principal Seltzer and Assistant Principal Joseph at McTeacher’s Night? They were at our local McDonald’s helping serve food at our drive-thru event. Such a fun night supporting our wonderful school! PTA has provided our school with many academic resources like Heggerty, Scholastic News, Story Works, iReady Toolbox, Lesson Pics and RazKids. The pretzel oven & warmer, popcorn machine and ice cream freezer are a bonus and really help with student incentives and events at our school. Yes, you read that right…an ice cream freezer! The “earth” without “art” is just “eh”. In May, we are looking forward to Cultural Arts Night (CAN). Each student picks artwork to be displayed around our school. The school walls are turned into an art gallery for everyone to view. There will be food, music, activities/crafts, a talent show and a raffle. We can’t wait to celebrate CAN with our families. Riverglades Elementary is located at 7400 Parkside Dr., Parkland 33076. Their principal is Joanne Seltzer. They can be reached at (754) 322-8200.

Our students enjoy going to school and following the Glen House Rules, showing their school pride while being respectful, responsible, and safe. Our clubs have been busy this school year and there are so many to choose from. Our wildcat gardeners are helping to beautify our campus each day while harvesting some of the most delicious veggies on this side of town! These students get to nurture our school’s gardens, learn about planting and harvesting, all while building lifelong bonds. Our Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders (MTL) students are busy planning their trip to Tallahassee to visit the historic Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. They also attended the “Mind Your Business” forum at the end of April. SOUL OF A SWIMMER

is the true story of Nicholas Dworet, a champion swimmer from Florida. Through interviews with his family, friends, coaches and teammates, the book fondly describes the lifelong process of harnessing, nourishing, and growing a child who has extraordinary talent, and ebullient dreams, and developing him into a champion. As Nick grows, the reader learns about a boy with remarkable character; when he was “dry”, Nick was a champion in life. During his teens, as Nick matures, a remarkable young man emerges. Nick was always humble and empathetic toward his teammates and toward his opponents. At times when he experienced failure, Nick processed such situations with maturity and grace. Nick learned to love and had an extraordinary relationships with his girlfriend and their families. Nick was able to set goals, and dream about his future. While a senior in high school, Nick found his journey toward Olympic dreams to be within reach, literally at his fingertips. Tragically, his life was cut short in the 2018 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland Florida. Nick’s story shall

resonate with the reader forever. Swimmer Ryan Lochte, a 4 time Olympian, with 12 Olympic medals, and the current world record holder in both the 200 yard and 200 meter Individual Medley had this to say about Soul of a Swimmer : “Nick’s story describes the unique commonalities competitive swimmers share, regardless of one’s stature in the sport. Nick reminds me that it’s not about the result; it’s about the journey. Like Nick, I have always known I’ve been on a journey; sometimes charmed, sometimes challenging, and always hard to anticipate. I can’t stop wondering did Nick’s journey end, or was it just beginning? You will not forget this book. “ Reader Erica Eisdorfer says: All the kids at Parkland (as well as other school shootings) deserve a Carla Albano: a person who understands their passions, who feels the community’s pain, who can write about a tragedy without dwelling on the sadness, but instead, highlighting achievement and joy.” Soul of a swimmer is available at select bookstores and on Amazon. All proceeds go to the Nicholas Dworet Memorial trust, which furthers Nick’s legacy in swimming and the local community.
