Dear Readers, Happy Holidays to all of you! As we enter the holiday season of “giving”, I have many reasons to be grateful and thankful. For starters, I have never been more thankful for my amazing team at Sports & Activities Directory which includes all of YOU, our treasured readers. As the most wonderful time of the year approaches, I am excited to share a great variety of holiday events happening in and around our great city this season. Be sure to check our calendar, Around Town & Events sections for opportunities to give-back to the community and to engage in quality family time during this special time of year. We are featuring Harvest Drive in this issue, a wonderful way to teach our youth the significance and importance of giving to others in need. Harvest Drive is an amazing organization where 100% of the donations received go towards feeding and clothing those in need in our neighboring communities within Broward County. There are opportunities to donate, volunteer and get involved in getting these donations into the hands of those in need. What better way to give back during the season? In addition, there are plenty of great programs and activities for our youth and families alike to enjoy while school is out of session. Even a visit to a local or county park can be a fun activity to enjoy as a family during the cooler time of the year! In addition to your Plantation Sports & Activities Directory, we also publish four other local directories covering Davie/Cooper City/SW Ranches, Weston, Pembroke Pines and Coral Springs/Parkland. All our publications are available online at www.sportsandactivities.com, and they have interactive links to our advertisers’ websites for easy reference. Enjoy! However you and your family celebrate the holidays, I wish you all the very best. Here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous new year ahead! Cheers to you!

Plantation has it all!

8

As we’re coming to the end of 2019, I’d like to say Happy Holidays! This has been an amazing first year as your Mayor and I am excited for my upcoming years. As we look around, we can see why Plantation is a great city and why we are all so proud to live and visit here. We continue to achieve great things in the City of Plantation when residents, businesses, employees and volunteers work together. Plantation Counts! On September 11th we proclaimed the day as Census 2020 Complete Count Committee Kick-Off Day! Every Ten years the U.S Census Bureau counts residents across the country and this year we have started the process! Over the next couple of months, the Census workers will make their way around Plantation. A correct count is critical as the Census numbers are used to determine federal representation and funding of programs. We encourage our residents to participate and help us get a complete and accurate count! We’ve been working on a multitude of improvement projects to bring more excitement to our City. Our residents, visitors and businesses will enjoy all the amenities they have to offer. We’re bringing you restaurants, retail, an athletic sports center and a bowling entertainment venue! As these projects reach completion, I invite all to come on out for lively experiences and adventures! In the meantime, we have some big events coming your way! Rock the Park Concert Series returns Friday, November 1st and will run the first Friday of each month until April 2020 at Central Park. On Sunday, November 3rd our Plantation Volunteer Firefighters Association is back with their 63rd Annual Bar-B-Que at Pine Island Park! Also, on Sunday, November 3rd Volunteer Park will be holding our Annual Community Garage Sale! Moving to the end of November, on Saturday the 23rd we will have our ‘It’s a Wonderful Life in Plantation’ Holiday Parade! Beginning at Broward Boulevard and 441, the parade will make its way to Plantation City Hall showing off amazing floats and scenery for all to see. Closing up the year, we’ll have our first Light Up City Hall event on Saturday, December 7th where all our residents and new neighbors may enjoy some music, food trucks, selfies with Santa and the “There’s Snow Place Like Plantation” contest! Remember with the Holidays coming up, our Parks and Recreation Department holds Kid’s Day Off events on those days when Broward County Public Schools are closed. They have also worked hard with putting up Shade Canopies over our playgrounds in various parks throughout our City, so stop by for some cool down fun with the kids! I do hope you are as captivated as I am about how wonderful our City is, what it has to offer and the positive future we have coming our way! The City of Plantation sure has it all!

Sincerely,

Mayor Lynn Stoner City of Plantation

Central Park Pool. That’s where he saw a Parks and Recreation flyer seeking Santas to volunteer riding throughout Plantation on Christmas Eve. (Outfits, drivers and candy is provided by the city.) It was kismet. So that year, and for many others, we have met at Central Park gym in the early evening – with whatever siblings, spouses and cousins we could muster – and piled into the back of a city truck as one of 17 Santas traversing on the city-arranged routes. (Thank you to the city workers who stick around late on Christmas Eve. Effort like that makes Plantation special.) By the end of the night, our voices are hoarse, our shoulders are sore from tossing candy, and we’ve posed for countless photos on the one night when parents will actually momentarily hand their child over to a stranger. We’ll be at it again this year. So, if your Santa is taller than most, and is wearing glasses, there’s a decent chance it’s me. Say “hi,” and enjoy your holiday. Nick Sortal is President Pro-Tem of the Plantation City Council. Nick can be reached at 954-498-5337.

AROUND TOWN

W

e don’t have snow and our fireplaces are mostly decorative, but we still have plenty of holiday spirit in Plantation. The city has two long-standing traditions that make it unique – a holiday parade and a flurry of Santas filtering along every street in the city on Dec. 24 – and is upping its game even more: This year marks the first “Light Up City Hall,” set for 5-9 p.m. Dec. 7. City administration has spoken of plans to eventually create a holiday centerpiece of activity in the city’s Midtown area, which includes Westfield Broward Mall and The Fountains. But for this year, there’ll be an event at City Hall, 400 NW 73rd Ave. The area will be decorated with bright lights. Local schools will provide the music and a holiday movie will be shown. The evening will be enhanced with games, food trucks and vendors and a “Selfies with Santa” opportunity. Our city’s two big holiday events are the parade and Santa’s visit. “It’s a Wonderful Life in Plantation!” returns at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, and follows its traditional route. That means everyone – including this article’s author, as a city official – begins heading westbound at the intersection of Broward Boulevard and 441/State Road 7. We turn north on NW 69th Avenue, then take Northwest Fourth Street to City Hall. For information, call 954-452-2506. Then there’s Santa visit, which has been a tradition in the Sortal family for about 10 years. It started when my son, Aaron, was about 10 and had a full crop of red hair. One day, he wore a green shirt. “I’d be a great elf,” he said, looking in the mirror on his way to swim practice at

ello neighbors. While the holiday season is upon us, please remember that hurricane season is in effect until November 30th. Be sure to have all of your supplies and your action plan in place in preparation for a hurricane. As the holiday season approaches, it’s a special time to get together with family and friends and enjoy the simple pleasures the season brings. The members of the Plantation Fire Department want everyone to have an enjoyable holiday season, so here are a few tips to help keep everyone safe during the season. The holidays offer a festive celebration of color and lights. Candles create sense of warmth in the home. However, candles also create a tremendous fire hazard. Candles are one of the leading causes of home fires. A safe alternative is LED lights which simulate candlelight nicely, are perfectly safe, and are energy efficient. Spread them around your home and enjoy the atmosphere safely. A natural holiday tree really brightens a home, so please be sure to keep water in the tree stand at all times. When the pine needles start to fall off the tree, it’s time to dispose of it. Dry holiday trees are highly combustible and burn very quickly. Please use single extension cords, ensure they are not frayed or broken, do not run them under carpets, and do not overload circuits. Use multi-plug boxes with proper the circuit breaker protection. Finally, while the holidays bring good cheer and fellowship, a significant segment of our population may not feel so festive. The holiday season is one of the highest times of the year for suicides, particularly among the elderly. Keep an eye on all your loved ones. If something doesn’t seem right, reach out to them, and get help as soon as possible. We want everyone to enjoy this holiday season creating great memories for years to come. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa or just the joy of the season, your friends and neighbors at the Plantation Fire Department wish you all a safe, happy, and festive holiday season. Lastly, are you ready to be a leader in your community? If so, Become One of Us! You can make a difference by becoming a Plantation Volunteer Firefighter. Call Fire Administration at 954-797-2150 for details. Enjoy and stay Safe this holiday season!

Sincerely,

Don Todd, Fire Chief

A trip to the library can help your child build a lifelong love of books,

reading and learning. Libraries have books, movies, videogames and more on their shelves, and it doesn’t cost anything to borrow them from the library. You can also read and listen to books online for free with your library card, which is free for anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Broward County. Reading together sets an example for your child and shows that you believe reading is important. Books “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss Reading to your child for at least 15 minutes every day, starting from birth, is important to your child’s healthy development and future success in school. Children who are read to regularly, show more activity in the parts of their brain that help with reading comprehension and understanding stories. Even the youngest baby loves being held and hearing the voice of their family members as they read a book aloud. Your local library has more books than any one person could afford to buy, and anyone can borrow the books for free. With so many books to choose from, it’s fun and easy for young children to discover new favorite stories. Librarians are dedicated to building diverse collections, so books can serve as windows (letting children see other cultures) and mirrors (so children see themselves reflected in the books they read). Children learn about different cultures, customs, religions and living situations in their neighborhood and around the world by reading books that reflect diversity. Librarians “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” – Mr. Rogers Libraries are more than just books; it’s the people inside the library who make it a welcoming space for children and families and connect them to the information they need. From the librarians who help your child choose their next favorite book, to the workers who help you check out books, people who choose to work in libraries are dedicated to helping. Most librarians have a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.); Youth Services (or Children’s) Librarians specialize in serving children and families. Stop by the Reference Desk at your local library and say hello! Storytime “You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.” – Dr. Seuss Story times are more than entertaining – they help develop important pre-reading and early literacy skills while encouraging a lifelong love of books by singing, talking, reading and playing together. Librarians share their favorite stories and help families pick out books to read at home. Activities and free play at the end of story time encourages conversation, builds vocabulary and gives adults and children a chance to make new friends. Children tell us stories long before they learn to read. Story time gives them a place to learn the art of sharing stories and lets them know that their stories are important.

Play “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.” - Fred Rogers Many libraries have an interactive play area with puzzles, puppets and props designed to encourage exploration and parent/child interaction. Play fosters children’s imaginations and encourages cooperation while developing early literacy skills. Play helps children express feelings, and allows children to think out loud about experiences. Playing with puppets helps children develop narrative skills and learn sequencing (stories happen in an order: first, next, last). Toy kitchens and plastic food promote healthy nutrition, help children learn about other cultures, give children new words (zucchini, eggplant) and encourage creativity. Puzzles improve hand-eye coordination and encourage children to think and solve problems. Through interactive play, children are encouraged to play together cooperatively and empowered to be responsible. These activities help build connections in your child’s brain, especially from birth to age 3. Through the shared experiences and resources found at the library, parents and caregivers can encourage their children to value reading and become lifelong learners. According to the latest research from the Kids & Family Reading Report, 95% of parents agree “every community needs to have a public library.” Have you visited your local library lately? Stop by, say hi to your librarians, and let us help you build your child’s love of books. The Nova Southeastern University Alvin Sherman Library, Research, Information Technology Center is a unique joint-use library serving the residents of Broward Countyas well as NSU students, faculty, and staff members. Samaritan’s Purse

his is the 5th year that two sisters from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Angelina (12th grader) and Gianna Brier (10th grader) have organized and raised money and awareness for Operation Christmas Child – Samaritan’s Purse. Through this charity, they give gifts and school supplies to children deeply in need. Children to whom just one pair of colorful new socks, a toothbrush and a tiny toy will bring unimaginable joy. Over the years, the girls have filled over 1,000 boxes for children to receive for Christmas. “Along with gifts, we also place a personal note in each box,” said Angelina. The girls have received reply letters back from some of the kids through the years, “The best feeling is knowing that we are able to make a child happy. The letters we have received back from the kids

always express how appreciative they are to receive a toothbrush, small toys or even a pair of socks.” Angelina and Gianna already hosted a fundraiser at Publix with students from the Tri-M Music Honors Society and family in August and will have their second fundraiser at Mabec Grill Restaurant on November 6th from 6pm – 9pm. All donations will go towards postage ($9 a box) and buying items to fill the boxes for the kids. Items are being collected up until November 15th (small stuffed animals, jump rope, match box cars, children size socks, school supplies). If you are interested in volunteering or donating to Operation Christmas Child, please call (954) 415-1823 or email TheresaBrier@gmail.com.

lantation Park Elementary “Gives a Hoot for a Cure!” Each year the school participates in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event held each spring in the city of Plantation. During the school year, the teachers and staff hold different fundraisers to help raise money for their team goal. The first event was held in October when the entire student body and staff were asked to wear pink and pledge at least one dollar to help fight cancer. Nicole Fimiano, an ESE Specialist at Plantation Park Elementary, is the team captain for our school and has been involved in the Relay for Life for several years. The school wants to teach the students how important it is to get involved at a young age and have them think beyond themselves. Unfortunately, almost everyone has been touched by cancer in one way or another. “It really is so important that we teach the children that cancer doesn’t only affect one person,” Principal Julie Gittelman says. “It can happen to anyone, or any family member, so the children are taught to be aware, to be sensitive, and to care for others, not just

Even our teachers performed a song that brought the house down. One of the parents commented “The holiday program is the highlight of the school year because it gives our boys and girls an opportunity to showcase their talents.” This year, our school has the awesome opportunity to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program. The objective of this program is to expose our students to healthy food items each week. Our students look forward to the tasty treats they enjoy at lunch time. NAHS sponsors Peace Week creating “pinwheels for peace” and “peace rocks” that are spread throughout the campus to promote positivity. They are creating a “Love Yourself” mural on campus as well. NAHS supports the Plantation Junior Women’s Club annual Art in the Park event by staffing the face painting booth, running the bounce houses, and volunteering in whatever capacity is needed. They work with No More Tears, supporting victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking. NAHS is also Plantation High’s primary sponsor for the America Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life event. Ms. Gibson stresses the importance of art programs in schools, “people don’t realize that art is healing, a lot a people want to remove art from schools because they don’t understand the importance of art for kids.” Plantation High School’s art program will continue to grow and flourish in the future. The program is slated for a brand new, state of the art facility that is part of the district’s SMART Bond program. So next time you’re on the Plantation High campus enjoy a galley walk of artistic expression. Plantation High School is located at 6901 NW 16th St, Plantation, FL 33313 and can be reached at (754) 322-1850.

SCHOOLS motivated self-starters who are confident in their abilities. SIGNS IT’S TIME FOR TUTORING So, when should you call Huntington? When the grades have fallen, of course, but here are several other signs your child needs personal tutoring help: • Your child lacks study skills. Watch for sloppy or incomplete notes from class and a haphazard approach to nightly homework. Take note if your child seems to make things harder on him or herself by succumbing to distractions or failing to set up good habits during homework and studying. • Homework takes way too long. Tasks that you know should be quick take a long time because your child gets distracted or easily confused. Observe how your child spends his or her time and how long it takes to get going when he or she sits down to do work. • Your child doesn’t care. If your child once enjoyed school and now seems lazy and apathetic about the idea of learning, there might be something going on behind the scenes. There’s a reason for that lack of effort. You need to find out what it is. • Your child’s typical nightly routine: avoid. If procrastination and avoidance has become the nightly norm, your child is probably be struggling with school material. Avoidance is easier than slogging through something difficult or asking for help. Call 1-800 CAN LEARN to learn more about Huntington’s one-to-one student tutoring plans. We work with children of all ages to identify and target their areas of weakness so they can get back on track in school.

ou’ve seen several red flags, including a decline in grades and a poor report card. Maybe your child has asked you for homework help but you can tell your child has big skill gaps and you feel unequipped to help him or her close them. If you know your child could benefit from the help of a tutor, your next decision is what type of setting is going to be most effective: a one-to-one or group tutoring setting? AT HUNTINGTON, WE ARE PROPONENTS OF INDIVIDUALIZED TUTORING FOR STUDENTS FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS: • One-to-one tutoring programs are customized for each student’s needs. In a one-to-one tutoring session, the teacher determines what to cover based on the student’s specific needs and goals. The curriculum is designed to address each student’s challenges. Sessions are built specifically around the student. • Students can’t get lost in the crowd. Just like in a classroom with many students, students in a larger group tutoring session can fade into the background by avoiding asking questions or engaging the teacher. Not so in an individualized tutoring program. Students get the help they need because they are the sole focus. • The programs scale according to students’ growth. Because an individual tutoring session is designed around each student’s areas of weakness, there’s no risk of students getting left behind. Tutors will not move ahead to a new concept without ensuring their students master the essential building block skills first. • Students learn more than just school skills. A quality subject tutoring program focuses on more than the academic skills your child needs for success. At Huntington, for example, we strive to help students boost their self-esteem and turn around any negative feelings they might have about school. Our goal is to help students become

hinese has become an international language. It is the most widely spoken and fastestgrowing language in the world today, frequently spoken in the business world. Chinese people are involved in many international business sectors including the film industry in Hollywood, California. Many influential individuals such as our former president Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook have learned Chinese as a second language. Schools that offer the Chinese language as part of their curriculum, are preparing their students entry into the 21st Century marketplace. Learning a second language at an early age can influence a child’s entire academic career. Becoming fluent in a second language by college-age can differentiate one student from another, allowing the student to be accepted by the college or university of their choice. The U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs selected our school’s International Baccalaureate Program to host a Mandarin Chinese teacher for the second consecutive year in a row as part of the 2019-2020 Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP). We were honored to receive this fully funded opportunity! In partnership with the American Council for International Education, (a Washington, DC organization that implements the program), Plantation Middle School was the only school in BCPS that has ever received this grant, and is now the leader in the program, assisting other Broward County Public Schools to follow. Our school was paired with a highly qualified English teacher from the People’s Republic of China through this amazing program! Our guest teacher this year is Ms. Huang Can, and she is already proving herself to be an asset in the continuous expansion and sustainability of our Mandarin language program.

Ms. Huang teaches beginning Mandarin Chinese, Chinese I and Chinese II available for high school credits. She continues to expand a curriculum consistent with the Frameworks for Foreign Languages (1999) that focuses on the four modalities of the Chinese language: speaking, listening, reading and writing. She is incorporating information and activities relating to Chinese culture and history and will host a Chinese New Year celebration program in January at our school. Ms. Huang teaches two blocks of Chinese language classes a day, which allows her to be engaged in cross-curricular learning opportunities. Students not otherwise exposed to Chinese language and culture have access valuable information. In addition, Ms. Huang has started an After-School Chinese Culture a club where students will be learning Kungfu, Taiji, Calligraphy, Painting, Paper Cutting, Dancing, Folk Music, Chess, Chinese Knot, etc. The fourth and fifth grade students from Peters and Mirror Lake Elementary Schools are engaged in a unique outreach opportunity for the 2019-20 school year with Ms. Huang. She will expose all students to the Chinese language and various, fun cultural activities. Peters and Mirror Lake students will be performing as part of the Chinese New Year Program at Plantation Middle as well. Ms. Huang is looking forward to fulfilling her role as a teacher and an ambassador of TCLP and of her home country and our students and community are looking forward to learning the Chinese Language and culture and leaving an everlasting footprint and friendship in our minds and hearts. Plantation Middle School is located at 6600 W. Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation, and can be reached at (754) 322-4100.

PETERS ELEMENTARY

P

A SPECTACULAR SPANISH CLUB & LEADER

eters Elementary offers a Spanish Club for interested students. Last year, our Spanish Club teacher, Ms. Lissette Boloña staged a full play of Alice and Wonderland completely in Spanish. The play was performed at the school’s Arts and Academic Fair and the students were amazing! Ms. Boloña goes out of her way to make every cultural experience special for the children. Our Spanish club meets at 6:45am on our dedicated teacher’s own time. Every project the children produce is funded solely through the sale of Ms. Boloña’s famous “smelly pencils”. The sale of her “smelly”, scented pencils raises the money and resources needed for the Spanish club. Peters Elementary was chosen to host the World Language Competition for the 5th year in a row during the 2018-19 school year. This program has been developed by BCPS to offer students a deep appreciation of the many different cultures world-wide. Children showcase the culture of their chosen country through the international language of art. During the WLC, the children compete in six categories: Cultural Dance or Musical Performance, Poetry, Theatrical Scene or Skit, Themed Collaborative 3D Projects, or Broadcasting News or Powerpoint presentations. A district coordinator divides up the participating schools. In

2018-19, Peters Elementary hosted NINE schools, once again! A field trip to Telemundo rounded out the year for forty-one children whom participated in Ms. Boloña’s Spanish Club. The Peters Elementary PTA funded the students’ T-shirts for the broadcast event. The children were so excited to be on live television, and to be behind the scenes of a live television show. ZUMBA’s originator taught the children on live TV, and all the students danced to the lively Latin music together. It was a pride-filled day for our students, their parents and their teacher. Ms. Boloña was thrilled to find out that Telemundo has invited the students from Peters back for this school year! If you think this is a lot for one Super Teacher, you’re right! Ms B works tirelessly and also enjoys help from her former students who come back to Plantation Middle School to assist her with these great programs. We are lucky to have a leader like Ms. Lissette Boloña, and we love the invaluable lessons she’s teaching our children at Peters Elementary School. Peters Elementary School is located at 851 NW 68th Avenue in Plantation and can be reached at (754) 322-7900 or www.peters.browardschools.com

n thIn the fall of 1992, Renee Herman took it upon herself to organize a food drive at Country Isles Elementary that would provide a week’s worth of groceries to 20 Weston area families who were down on their luck. She rallied the students to help with neighborhood canned food drives and camped outside of Publix Supermarkets to accept donations. They succeeded and the 20 families in need were fed. But, she didn’t stop there. Twenty-seven years later, Renee is still on a mission to stamp out hunger and she oversees the year-round effort to help families in need through Harvest Drive. Unlike many other not for profit organizations, 100% of donations goes to local families in need! No one gets paid to run this organization,” Renee says. “We need more help. Hunger is a year round challenge.” According to FeedingAmerica.org, 18.2% of children in Broward County, roughly 73,950 are in a food insecurity situation. 36% of these families do not qualify for any state or federal food benefits. Therefore, in addition to the Thanksgiving Harvest Drive, they make an additional 1,000 Helping Hands Harvest Drive boxes full of 40 lbs. of non-perishable food that are given out to families in need from our local schools throughout the year. They also start each school year off by providing well-stuffed backpacks to nearly 300 students who cannot otherwise afford school supplies. This grass roots organization’s success is due to a partnership with the Broward County Public Schools. Over 200 public and private schools are

By Margot Lyons Puleri

involved in the mission to collect enough food to feed over 2,400 families (approximately 10,000 people) throughout Broward County for a week at Thanksgiving time. Distribution sites are set up at 14 local schools, with Western High School being the largest. In addition to these sites, approximately 189 other schools will be taking donations that will then be divided up between the area distribution sites. Families with children in Broward County Schools are referred to the Harvest Drive by Broward County social workers as well as other local social service agencies based on their financial need. In addition to the weeks’ worth of groceries and a Thanksgiving Turkey and all the trimmings or a gift card, families are able to shop in the Harvest Drive’s makeshift stores for a variety of household items that have been donated. Volunteers work all year long collecting donations for the Harvest Drive Boutiques so that these families may find things they need at no cost to them. Western High School and Pompano Beach High School will be fully stocked with items such as new and gently used toys, clothes and

shoes, books and household items are most in need by these families. After decades of orchestrating and honing the details and operation of Harvest Drive, Renée has been blessed with several special people to assist her in her efforts. Susan Gross, Davi Leoniff, Harriet White, Amy Freund, Tanja Ylenius, Karen Navarrete, Holly Stracquadaine, all volunteer to share the responsibilities. “It takes thousands of people to make this happen each year. Organizations, Broward County Schools, and individuals have been instrumental in helping with donations and money to buy groceries,” said Renee. The compassion and dedication displayed each year by students who participate is inspirational. “What really makes this work, what is truly unique about Harvest Drive, is that it is the students and the schools who donate their time and effort with such enthusiasm to make this a reality,” she says. Many of the students volunteer every year and she has formed a lasting bond with them throughout her time organizing the

Here is how you can say, “YES, I want to help!” • Host a Neighborhood Food Drive to collect non-perishables and things from the list below. • Donate whatever amount of money (gift cards are encouraged as well) and nonperishable food you are able to give. • Donate food for our volunteers on Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving. • Donate toothbrushes, toothpaste, toiletries, clothes, books and toys. • Help sort and pack during Harvest Days at the different distribution sites (visit www.harvestdriveflorida.com for schedule). • Spread the word! Harvest Drive would like to give a special thank you to the following sponsors: Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Children’s Services Council, The Jim Moran Foundation, A+ Mini Storage, Ultimate Software, Publix Super Market Charities, Food For All, Michael Freedland, Bob Harms, 100+ Women Who Care, Castle Management, 2 Men And A Truck, Broward County Schools, and Chick-fil-A Davie North.

Harvest Drive. “Teaching children at a young age that their contributions can make a difference in the lives of others is what makes this project so rewarding,” Renee adds. Not only does this make the hard work and sacrifice pay off, it gives her hope for the future and inspires her to do even more. “What keeps me awake at night worrying is that the day before the families arrive that week before Thanksgiving, we will be short. We need monetary donations and gift cards so we can buy the items we are short on at the last minute. I cannot bear the thought that our local, neighborhood families will go hungry when so many individuals, businesses and organizations have so much to give,” she said.
