Hello Neighbors!

It’s August in Danville, and that means hot days, going on one last summer vacation, pool parties, and back to school! Danville is always filled with lively days and nights where locals enjoy our downtown restaurants, shops, and neighborhood events. This month is no exception, as we all try to sneak in a few more late night bike rides on the trail and last minute BBQ’s with friends before the kids go back to school.

This August, Danville Living is happy to share with you Emily and Filippo Silvestri. This awesome couple is surely a recognizable duo to anyone who loves local Italian food and art. We are thrilled they took a moment from their busy lives to share their love story and all things food, family, and home with the Danville Living readers. We also have a great Calendar of Events of summertime activities for the whole family to enjoy and a wonderful collection of community expert articles.

If you have a story to share or know a neighbor that you would love to see on our cover, please send me an email at aangstenberger@bestversionmedia.com. We welcome all families, couples, or individuals - the only requirement is that our feature family live on the west side of Danville. So send your friends and neighbors my way, I can’t wait to meet them!

Meet Emily and Filippo

Sharing their love of home, food and art with Danville

Photos provided by the Silvestri

For any Danville local, visitor, or even a tourist stopping into town, Locanda Ravello leaves a lasting impression for all who visit. We are extremely lucky to call one of the owners, Filippo Silvestri, a westside resident and familiar smiling face to all. His beautiful wife, Emily SmithSilvestri, is also an extraordinary painter, realtor, and all around “bubbly” individual who blesses Danville with her presence. We are thrilled they are willing to share their story with us.

Filippo was born and raised in Fossalta Di Piave, Veneto, Italy…a town in the Venice Metropolitan region known for architectural sites, wineries, historical churches, and many hiking and biking trails. (Interesting Fact; Ernest Hemingway was wounded by a mortar shell in 1918 in Fossalta di Piave, while serving on the Italian Front.) As a child, Filippo loved listening to music as well as playing his favorite sport, soccer. Athleticism runs deep in the Silvestri family, as Filippo’s father is a prominent figure in the soccer world in Venice, Italy. Additionally, his uncle, Arturo Silvestri, played and won several National Championships and international trophies for the A.C. Milan. “The Sportivo,” which is the town’s central park, with a state-of-the-art soccer field, hosts matches for youth and all locals to enjoy, is named after Fillipos’ grandfather, Arnaldo Silvestri. Across the globe, Emily Smith was born and raised in the Bay Area, specifically in San Mateo on the Peninsula. Emily always enjoyed art as a child and being the neighborhood babysitter. Growing up, Emily’s love for art blossomed while she would visit open houses in her neighborhood. This led her to become passionate about architecture and design and shaped her into quite the creative professional. As an alumnus of UC Santa Cruz, UC San

Diego and NYU, it is clear that her hard work and academic curiosity led her to be the accomplished woman she is today.

The love story of Filippo and Emily could have come straight out of a romance novel. In 2005, while working on her Masters Program in painting at NYU, Emily traveled to Italy to participate in the Venice Biennale. In Emily’s words, “two days after arriving in Venice, I was lost in the floating city built on piers navigating through the poorly marked streets and canals hoping to find my hotel and art colleagues. With little success, I stopped to sit by a canal, watching the waves splash up against the piers, boats speeding by, and who taps me on the shoulder to offer me an Aperol Spritz (preferred afternoon cocktail made of Aperol, Prosecco, club soda, and an orange slice with a green olive…try one at Locanda Ravello any afternoon and you’ll be hooked), Filippo?!?! Pomeriggio Ciao! A tall, handsome Italian, I couldn’t resist. He was trustworthy and kind from the get-go, I figured, “what the heck!” I accepted, and off we went on a Vaporetto (water bus) to one of Filippo’s friends’ Italian wedding across the canal to Lido. This is where we started our romance, and I knew he was a keeper when he would carry my paintings from the University studio to the exhibition for installation... he was strong! Love of art is in the blood of Italians… Filippo understood me, and I thought he was fun and simply a beautiful person, so tying the knot was the next step.”

The next 5 years were filled with traveling back and forth from Italy to the Bay Area, cultivating their long distance relationship with road trips and long vacations together. In 2010, Filippo and Emily were married, then settled in their new life in San Mateo. In only one week after being newlyweds, Filippo met some fellow Italians at AcquApazza (one of the first of the Rosano family restaurants) and quickly felt at home by sharing in their passion for soccer, food, and restaurant service. It was only a matter of time where this new friendship would turn into a business relationship as well as an extended family. Partnering with Enzo Rosano and Antonio Cerbone is how Filippo and Emily ended up in Danville…opening our town’s beloved, Locanda Ravello! All the while, Emily has also been busy as an artist and real estate agent. From teaching art in elementary schools, to opening her own art gallery, Emily has remained enthusiastic at keeping her artist juices flowing. She recently curated an art show with westside local, Tricia Grame, at the Danville Theater, entitled “Bellissima”...where they showcased select Italian artists in an exhibition. She also partook in the Tri Valley Open Artists Studio 2023 and continues to paint her own landscapes, pool scenes, lines, still life’s, portraits, flags and hotlines. Emily enjoys participating in local art events, teaching art to children and donating her

“flag paintings” to local fundraisers. Check out Emily’s website at https://www.artbyemilycsmith.com/ to see some of her beautiful art! And if that is not enough, Emily is also a successful real estate agent. Returning to her roots of attending open houses as a child, Emily now uses her artistic eye, attention to detail, world traveling experience and “relentless pursuit of a vision,” to help clients find their luxury home. Emily loves working for Golden Gate Sotheby’s as she has a unique skill set to help clients

appreciate the art, architecture and design qualities in their new homes in both Contra Costa Country and on the Peninsula.

Although Emily and Fillippo remain quite busy with their respective careers, one thing they enjoy in their free time is projects on their home on Kuss Road. Living on the same street as the Eugene O’Neill National Historic site could not be more perfect for Filippo and Emily. They also love walking on the trails behind their home where they admire the Blue Oak trees and many animals on their property. Just this spring, they witnessed four baby fawns being born and continue to see birds, turkeys, and owls right outside their deck. Traveling back and forth to Italy to visit Filippo’s parents make up a majority of the Silvesti’s vacation time, as they are enjoying spending quality time with family and friends to make up for time lost during the pandemic. Another benefit to Emily and Filippo’s westside home is the location to downtown. Most days you will see Filippo bike to and from work, taking full advantage of their amazing community and location to town. It is certain that if you visit Locanda Ravello, you will see Filippo and his great smile greet you at the door...perhaps you will also see Emily sitting at the bar enjoying an Aperol Spritz! Be sure to say hello to them both and maybe even catch yourself in an impromptu concert from the Locanda Ravello staff!

Beat the Heat! Safety Tips for Seniors Experiencing Memory Loss

As the summer heat sets in, it is important to take extra care of seniors with Alzheimer’s, dementia or other forms of memory loss. These individuals are at increased risk of heat-related illnesses, as they may not be able to recognize the signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Here are some helpful tips: Stay cool. The best way to prevent heat-related illness is to stay cool. This means staying indoors in an air-conditioned environment as much as possible. If your loved one must go outside, avoid the hottest part of the day (10am to 2pm) and stay in shady areas. If your loved one does not have air conditioning, find the nearest city “Cool Zone” near you by searching for “Cool Zone near me” or check your local public library’s hours.

Use a smart thermostat. If you currently do not live with your loved one and they have air conditioning, investing in a smart thermostat (like Nest) can help with keeping your loved one’s home cool. There’s an added benefit of controlling the thermostat through an app, allowing you to turn on their air conditioning at any time, anywhere.

Stay hydrated. Seniors with memory loss are more likely to become dehydrated, so it is important to make sure they drink plenty of fluids. Keep track of their fluid intake by using a large jug with notches for measurements or by pre-filling glasses of water, putting them in the fridge and setting a goal of consuming all of the glasses by the end of the day. The general rule of thumb is to take one third of your loved one’s body weight and drink that many ounces of water.

Dress for the weather. Dress your loved one in light, loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics. Avoid synthetic fabrics, as these can trap heat. A hat and sunglasses can also help to protect your loved one from the sun.

Take breaks. If your loved one is going to be outside for an extended period of time, take breaks in a cool, shady area. Encourage them to sit down and rest, and offer them fluids.

Monitor their health. Pay close attention to your loved one’s health during hot weather. If they start to exhibit signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, such as dizziness, nausea, or confusion, seek medical attention immediately.

Signs of heat exhaustion include:

• Dizziness

• Nausea

• Headache

• Fatigue

• Confusion

• Pale skin

• Rapid breathing

Unlike heat exhaustion, heat stroke requires immediate medical attention. If you see any of the following signs, call 911 immediately.

Signs of heat stroke include:

• High body temperature (above 103 degrees Fahrenheit)

• Confusion

• Seizures

• Loss of consciousness

Caring for a loved one experiencing memory loss can be challenging. The team at Carefield Pleasanton is always available to answer your questions about memory care for your loved one, and the benefits of a community. Contact Carefield Pleasanton by calling (925) 750-8744 or visit www.CarefieldPleasanton.com today.

Honey Walnut Shrimp... Just like takeout!

Idon’t know about you, but growing up I was never allowed to order the honey walnut shrimp whenever we went out for Chinese food. It was usually the most expensive thing on the menu and the portions were never really enough for the whole table. It’s a crunchy fried shrimp dish in a creamy sweet sauce topped with candied walnuts and scallions. It never occurred to me until recently just how easy it is to make these rich delights right at home. And oddly enough, no honey in it at all. Now, I will admit that there is a little bit of corner cutting involved. But if you don’t mind buying store-bought, pre-fried shrimp, you can have this highly addictive dish on the table in 30 minutes or less. Serve this with a big bowl of white rice and get ready to wow your friends.

14 AUGUST 2023
Cooking Corner

Honey Walnut Prawns

Serves: 4

Time: 30 min

You will need;

• 1 pound of cooked frozen pre-fried shrimp (I used Great American Seafood Import in the frozen fish section)

• 2/3 C. Frying oil such as vegetable corner or canola

For the candied walnuts:

• 1 C. Walnut halves

• 1/3 C. Water

• 1/3 C. White sugar

For the sauce:

• 2/3 C. Real Mayo

• 2-3 TBS sweetened condensed milk

• (add more if you want it a little sweeter)

• 2 tsp Fresh lemon juice

• 2 Dashes garlic powder

• Salt and Pepper

• Green onion, garnish (optional)

Putting it together:

Begin by preparing the candied walnuts. These can be made a few days in advance. In a small sauce pan, bring the water to a boil and add the sugar. Back the heat down to low and simmer for 10 minutes

which will create a syrup. After 10 minutes, stir in the walnuts until fully coated and pour onto parchment paper to cool. (Be sure to use parchment paper. If you use a plate or cutting board to cool, the walnuts will stick to the surface and become a nightmare to clean).

Next is the shrimp sauce. In a medium size bowl, whisk the mayo, sweet condensed milk, and lemon juice together until well blended. Add garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste and set aside. In a large skillet, heat the frying oil using a medium heat. Carefully place the shrimp in the hot oil and cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown, then flip over for another two minutes. Watch them very carefully so they don’t overcook. Remove the shrimp to a paper towel to drain off excess oil. Transfer the hot shrimp to the sauce bowl along with the walnuts and toss in the sauce until well coated. Garnish with green onion and serve with white rice.

TrueNose: Redefining Rhinoplasty without Surgery

TrueNose is an innovative new rhinoplasty procedure that offers individuals an alternative to traditional surgical methods for reshaping and enhancing the nose. We are thrilled to announce that Blackhawk Plastic Surgery & MedSpa was recently approved as the only TrueNose provider in the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

TrueNose employs the use of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers to reshape and refine the nose. Unlike surgical rhinoplasty, TrueNose does not involve incisions, bone restructuring, or lengthy recovery periods. Instead, a physician or skilled aesthetic practitioner strategically injects the filler into specific areas of the nose to address concerns such as a dorsal hump, nasal asymmetry, or a drooping tip. The procedure allows for precise sculpting, resulting in a naturally balanced appearance. Additionally, TrueNose is a minimally invasive procedure and provides instant results.

One of the primary advantages of TrueNose is its non-surgical nature. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, requiring only a short office visit. Another benefit is the ability to customize the results. The physician or skilled practitioner can precisely adjust the volume, shape, and contour of the nose to meet the patient’s unique preferences and facial features. TrueNose also allows for subtle enhancements, making it ideal for individuals seeking minor corrections or adjustments to their appearance.

The TrueNose procedure begins with a consultation where the patient’s concerns and desired outcomes are discussed. During the treatment, the practitioner will sometimes administer a local anesthetic to ensure a comfortable experience. Using precise injection techniques, dermal filler is strategically used to reshape and refine the nose. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete and patients can resume their regular activities immediately after.

While TrueNose offers numerous benefits, it is important to understand its limitations. The results of non-surgical rhinoplasty are temporary, lasting anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the individual and the amount of filler used. This means that maintenance treatments may be necessary to maintain the desired appearance over time. TrueNose is suitable for individuals seeking subtle enhancements but may not be appropriate for significant changes or restructuring. In such cases, traditional surgical rhinoplasty may be recommended.

TrueNose represents an exciting advancement in the field of rhinoplasty, offering individuals a non-surgical alternative to reshape and enhance their noses. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for TrueNose or other rhinoplasty procedures is to schedule a complimentary consultation where we can discuss the procedure and your desired outcome. Tri-Valley Animal Rescue Giving Them Another Chance

RUPERT GOT ADOPTED! HOORAY!

For those faithful readers who have seen Rupert in Tri-Valley Animal Rescue’s articles for the last couple of months, I am so happy to tell you that our darling boy finally got adopted. Rupert was a resident of the East County Animal Shelter for 3 months and all the volunteers adored him. He entertained everyone with his tricks - including his SPINS that he does on command. He was getting a lot of love at the shelter - but the boy definitely needed his own home and his own family and we were getting nervous that Rupert was being overlooked time and time again -perhaps because of his age. And then he came down with Giardia - and we became even more concerned. And then he found the perfect home. We couldn’t have asked for a better family for our adorable boy. Rupert was adopted by Jared Shaffer and his three kids - Emilie, Will and Michael. Here is what the Shaffer family had to say about Rupert.

“Rupert is the perfect dog for our family. He instantly became comfortable around our family and house. Despite his young age of 10, he has the perfect amount of energy for our family. He loves his walks and chasing squirrels. He is friendly with everyone he meets. He still does his spin for treats.

My only area of training is that he doesn’t like car rides and turns into a 58 pound lap dog while I am driving! That was short lived, and now he is properly restrained. We are building him up for a 3 hour drive (with stops) as my kids and I love to camp near Ebbetts Pass off of Highway 4.”

And this is why TVAR does what we do -- finding amazing homes for these deserving animals. So please consider a rescue animal to add to your homes.

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR) - Giving them Another Chance

TVAR is a locally based and volunteer run 501(c)3 animal rescue organization. With our foster dog and foster kitten programs and our

Dog and Cat Shelter programs at the East County Animal Shelter, TVAR assists in saving hundreds and hundreds of animals yearly in the Tri-Valley and surrounding areas. We are celebrating 30 years of saving lives with over 250 local volunteers. At TVAR, we rely solely on Public Support to fund our life saving programs.

Combining Print & Digital To Grow Your Local Business

Print and digital advertising both have compelling advantages that complement each other perfectly. While many business owners choose one method instead of the other, research has shown that pairing these two strategies together is one of the best ways to target an ideal local audience. Let’s take a look at how you can attract new customers by combining the power of print media with modern digital solutions:

THE PRINT & DIGITAL EXPERIENCE

Advertising campaigns can be up to three times more powerful when print and digital media components are combined in a marketing strategy.1 Each format creates a unique experience for every consumer who comes across your ad. Print media activates the senses of readers, such as sight, smell and touch. This creates a memorable experience and ultimately improves the chances of them stopping by or giving you a call. On the flip side, digital ad campaigns are a great way to reach more customers on multiple platforms, while keeping a targeted approach geared to local customers in your area. By mixing print and digital media in your marketing efforts, you’ll reach an impactful audience and stay top-of-mind in the community.

REPETITION IS KEY

Pairing print and digital advertising in your marketing campaign not only expands your audience, but it also increases the chances of consumers making a meaningful connection with your business.2 For example, a consumer may not act upon a print or digital ad alone, no matter how effective your messaging is, but if they see your brand online and in a local magazine, they’re more likely to become a paying customer in the future. Adding multiple touchpoints to your campaign adds validity and trust to your overall brand. This consistency and repetition boosts the audience’s memory capabilities and often leads to improved results throughout a marketing campaign.

Snack Smarter With These Healthy Snacks for Teens

Assummer winds down, it is time to plan for the new school year. An important part of staying healthy and strong through the stress of school is food. Having snacks that fuel you during the day is vital. Healthy snacks can taste good, as long as they are balanced. Here are some fun, easy, and nutritious snacks to kickstart your great school year.

Homemade Trail Mix

Making a custom trail mix for yourself is a great option! You can control what ingredients you add to ensure you get the best nutrients for yourself and the things you like. Nuts such as almonds, cashews, and walnuts contain various proteins, minerals, and micronutrients. They are the key component of a delicious trail mix! Once you’ve picked a few of those, you can add dried fruits that are full of fiber. Just make sure not to go overboard! Dried fruit has a lot of sugar. In case you would rather have something chocolatey in your trail mix, try dark chocolate chunks. While they may have small amounts of sugar, they are high in antioxidants. A well-balanced trail mix consumed in moderation can lower health risks. Feel free to get creative!

Hummus

Did you know hummus is very high in fiber, vitamins, and protein? This makes it a great food to have during break or lunch. Pair it with anything you want; such as pita bread, or crackers. Bell peppers, cucumbers, and carrots are also great options for veggies!

Edamame

Perhaps you have not considered edamame in the past for a healthy snack… but you should now! Despite their small size, they are packed with plant-based protein, iron, and amino acids. You can even add whatever spices you like or add them to a salad. If you don’t want to deal with the “shells” you can buy pre-cooked edamame! There are so many interesting recipes to make with edamame.

Homemade Granola Bars

While granola bars are a simple snack that most people have had, you likely haven’t made them yourself! Many store-bought bars are full of added sugar. When you make them at home, you can control what is added and make sure that it is healthy. Making them isn’t all that difficult. If you want to make it even more convenient, turn your trail mix into some delicious bars from scratch!

Overnight Oats

You may have heard about the overnight oats trend! If not, overnight oats are a simple no-cook method to make oatmeal overnight. This is a great addition to your brunch break in the morning. Making these simple oats only takes 5 minutes– then you simply leave them overnight! By itself, this snack contains lots of protein, fiber, and nutrients. However, you can add all kinds of things to your oats, like chia seeds, yogurt, fresh or dried fruit, and nuts. Overnight oats are a perfect morning snack that can be made the night before and save you some time!

These well-balanced snacks will help you balance school and your social life! Don’t forget to let your creativity flow and try new things when customizing your snacks. Thanks to these delicious energyboosting treats, you are going to enter the school year strong and healthy. Good luck!

When is the Best Time to Sell My Home?

“When is the best time to sell my home?” This is one of the most frequent questions I receive, and the answer depends on your reason for selling, the features of your home and the market. For starters, let’s differentiate between selling your home (that you live in) and selling another property that you do not live in.

When you are selling your personal home, there are usually other motivating factors that determine your timing. For example, a career change, a change in family status or perhaps you’ve just found your dream home and wish to make a change. For most of us, these personal circumstances likely require a fairly quick sale and not a lot of wiggle room on the timing, especially if you need the equity out of your current home, to purchase the next one. The good news is that if you are selling and buying at the same time, you don’t need to be quite as concerned with whether the market is high or low, as the sale & purchase will likely balance out those factors. Consult with your Realtor® to see how the timing will impact you.

If your plans do not involve purchasing another home right away and if you have the luxury of choosing when to sell, then it makes more sense to place value on the timing in the calendar year. The market is always changing, but most often in our local community we see the strongest seller’s market in the late winter and early spring. While this timing is fairly safe, keep in mind that there are no guarantees in life. All we need to do is look back at the spring of 2020 (pandemic pause) and the winter/spring of 2023 (rain/flooding) to know that outside forces can have great impact on the market. Thankfully, we live in California and most of our seasons are conducive to a successful sale, when a home is marketed well. It’s still best to check the calendar and avoid timing that corresponds directly to significant holidays.

Whether you are selling your home or another property, take a look at the features of the property to recognize what time of year the best features shine. For example, if your garden has a spectacular display of blooming trees or vines, you might want to think about timing accordingly. Perhaps fall color is your best show? If the property has a swimming pool, you will likely get a better response in the warmer season than you would in the winter. If the property does not have air conditioning, it’s best to avoid the hot summer months.

In recent years, fires and floods have been top of the news, affecting home values and insurance rates. If your property is in a location that can be perceived to be at risk, it would be best not to plan to sell in the risky season. Home buyers look at beautiful locations next to wooded open space and creeks very differently during fire season or a wet winter.

Real estate is still all about location and supply & demand. If the supply of homes for sale is quite low, it’s an excellent time to sell. If you have a property with a significant challenge in location or other unchangeable feature, you will get the best return and fastest sale by choosing to sell when the inventory of homes for sale is low. While you want to present your property at its very best, beware of focusing on the smallest of details in preparation, while the market is hot, and potentially missing your best timing. Overall, it’s best to make a plan for selling and then leave some room for flexibility.

Teenage Anxiety, The Stress of College Competition (2nd of a 2 Part Series)

InJuly’s issue of Danville Living, I introduced the importance of recognizing anxiety and stress in your high school student. I also discussed common symptoms a parent may want to be aware of as their child navigates through high school. Let’s now discuss how you, the parent, can partner with your child to support them in their high school to college journey.

If you are concerned that your teenager may be experiencing stress or anxiety, it is important to talk to them about it. You can also talk to their doctor or a mental health professional if there are any signs of self harm. There are many effective treatments available for stress and anxiety, and early intervention can make a big difference. If the stress and anxiety can be attributed to the pressures to get into college a parent can offer many important tools to support their child. Here are some to guide you in supporting your teen:

1. Reassure your child that you love and support them, no matter what. Let them know that their worth is not defined by their grades or college admissions.

2. Help them to set realistic expectations. It’s important to remember that not everyone gets into their dream school, and that’s okay. There are many great colleges out there, and your child will be successful wherever they go.

3. Encourage them to take breaks and relax. It’s important for students to have a healthy balance between work and play. Encourage them to get enough sleep, eat healthy foods, and exercise regularly. (Endorphins can be the best medicine for a healthy mind.)

4. Help them to develop healthy coping mechanisms. If your child is feeling overwhelmed, talk to them about healthy ways to manage their stress. Some helpful coping mechanisms include exercise, relaxation techniques, and talking to a certified coach.

5. Seek professional help if needed. If your child is struggling to cope with their stress and there is possible self harm, don’t hesitate to seek professional help. A therapist or a certified coach can provide your child with the support and guidance they need to manage their anxiety and stress.

Other additional tips that may be helpful are:

• Help your child to develop a positive attitude. Encourage them to focus on the things they are good at, and to set realistic goals for themselves. This is especially important as your teen develops their portfolio.

• Help your child to develop a strong support network. Encourage them to spend time with friends and family who make them feel good about themselves.

• Help your child to find meaning in their life. Encourage them to find activities that they are passionate about and that give them a sense of purpose. This is also what the colleges value in the application process.

Keep in mind that if the stress is attributed to the expectations of being competitive in the college application process, the more you understand what colleges are looking for can alleviate some of the stress. Yes, the colleges want your child to have extracurriculars in their portfolio. However, the extracurriculars ideally should be ones that your child is passionate about and gets a lot of joy from. it is OK if your child has struggled. What is more important is what your child has learned from their struggles as they write their essays for college. The colleges want to understand how your child has persevered through their struggles. Failing is not the issue. What your child has learned is what is important. School and extracurriculars should not be painful. If your teenager is not having fun, it may be time to regroup and discover what your child truly is passionate about.

As a parent, you are not alone in this. There are many parents who are going through the same thing. If you are struggling to help your child, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. There are many resources available to you. As the principal of EYHLifeCoach, I am here to support you and your child in this transition. I specialize in partnering with my clients to navigate their passions to attain realistic goals.

Diablo Country Club Announces

$22 Million Master Facilities Project

Members of Diablo Country Club have overwhelmingly approved a comprehensive renovation, update and enhancement effort that will address all areas of the Club’s campus and ensure a continued best-in-class experience for this historic organization.

The $22 million project, fully funded through capital dues rather than member assessments, includes updates to the historic Clubhouse— featuring an original structure built 140 years ago—construction of a new Fitness Center, renovations to the Tennis Pavilion and Childcare Center, the addition of new Bocce Ball courts, installation of a new indoor Golf Simulator, and several other enhancements to our food and beverage services with an expansion and update to our historic Red Horse Tavern, addition of the new Diablo Pub, and renovations to the main kitchen that focus on improved productivity, efficiency, and more culinary amenities.

“As members and owners of Diablo Country Club we all take great pride in what has been accomplished so far, and what lies ahead in our future as these projects come to fruition,” said Tim Pauling, President of Diablo Country Club. “We appreciate the larger Diablo community’s continued support, and we look forward to providing updates as we progress.”

This Master Facilities Project follows a recent $12 million golf course renovation completed. That project led to the DCC course being named the “#1 Renovation Of The Year” in 2021 by Golf Inc., and one of the “50 Best In The West” courses in GOLF Magazine’s 2022 ratings. Reviewers noted this is a point-of-pride recognition in this highly competitive region because “the western side of the United States is teeming with incredible courses.”

Diablo’s comprehensive $34 million capital improvement project means that “every part of our Club campus will be touched as part of these enhancements,” said Bruce Pruitt, Diablo Country Club’s General Manager & COO.

The November approval means work on the second phase will commence almost immediately because DCC leaders proceeded with necessary planning in anticipation of the measure passing. The Club’s golf course, swimming pool and tennis courts will be available to members and guests during project construction. Culinary services will continue through innovations including “Red Horse Too,” a portable kitchen on wheels, “DiabloDash”—a food delivery service available through the DCC app—and expanded service at the existing Snack Shack. Temporary Bocce Ball courts will also be set up during the renovation effort. The full Master Facilities Project is anticipated to be completed in early 2024.

“The thoughtful enhancements and updates to our historic Clubhouse, renovations to our dining areas, the addition of new facilities,

and other touches mean Diablo will continue to be a complete, casually refined lifestyle experience for the entire family,” Pruitt stated. “Adding in the two recent recognitions of our golf course enhancement is just a preview of the quality you can expect from these new Diablo amenities.”

These updates and renovations will also parallel a multi-milliondollar Recycled Water project undertaken by Club leadership. An initial engineering and design research study will determine the parameters, budget and timeline for construction of a system that will provide DCC with a sustainable water system for their golf course irrigation.

About Diablo Country Club

Founded in 1914 as California’s first family club by Bay Area visionary Robert Noble Burgess, Diablo was created as “A Community with an Ideal” founded on the values of friendship, camaraderie, active lifestyles and authentic connection. The Club gained early national prominence with an original golf course design created by the future architects of Pebble Beach and Olympic Club, Jack Neville and William Watson. As the world’s only course co-designed by Neville and Watson, Diablo has held to this tradition of golfing excellence ever since, hosting Professional Exhibitions, the Northern California Open Championship, USGA Amateur Championship qualifiers, and US Senior Open qualifiers. Diablo has also evolved as a year-round complete lifestyle club for area residents and their families, featuring well-regarded racquet sports facilities, outstanding culinary and wine experiences, fitness and aquatics programs, and activities for youth and adults.
