Dear Weston Residents, Welcome back to the start of the 2021 – 2022 school year! I know many of you are asking, “Where did the summer go?” Understandably, with the re-opening of parks, recreation centers, and increased car and air travel, the summer appeared to fly by at rapid speed. While many of us were busy with summer activities and long-awaited visits with family, I hope you had an opportunity to relax and recharge. Without question, these are exceptional times right now. Although there

still remains uncertainty about what lies ahead, with regard to COVID-19,

there are signs that point to an incredible and productive school year. I know the district and local school leadership have been working hard all summer to plan for a safe opening of schools and to implement best practices to mitigate risks. Their commitment to provide relevant learning experiences for your children, while maintaining a safe environment that supports their social and emotional growth, is awe inspiring. Together, with the collaboration between students, parents, and educators, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children! As the Mayor of the City of Weston, I am honored and privileged to work with an amazing learning community, a community who values energy and dedication in education. As a city, we will continue to keep you updated as new guidance becomes available. ountry Isles has provided quality education to Weston area students for over 30 years. Country Isles has a “family feel” and is proud to have many traditions that are upheld year to year like Winterfest and the 5th grade jamboree. CIE is an “A” school and has received the Golden School Award. The mission at Country Isles is to educate the whole child and for students to gain the life skills to be productive and caring citizens. Country Isles students have PRIDE - which stands for Positive Attitudes, Respect, Integrity, Drive to Do the Right Thing, and Effort towards Learning. Teachers at CIE support students’ social-emotional growth as well as have high expectations for their academic growth. CIE offers many programs that students can participate in such as after school academic support camps, camps for English language learners, Dual Language, Debate, and Student Council. Our fifth graders can become safety patrol officers and audition for morning announcements. Student learning is enriched in specials areas daily such as Physical Education, Music, Art, and Computers. Students work to earn incentives and recognition for having good character as well as working hard on schoolwork and academic programs such as I-Ready. We celebrate our rich history and diverse population at Country Isles. Our CIE PTA is extremely supportive and active at CIE. We encourage family involvement and participation. Our students are proud to be part of the Weston community and we take every opportunity to participate in local events such as the 4th of July Hometown Parade, Celebrate The Arts, WorldFest, Mayor’s Challenge, and the Eagle Point Elementary Storybook Parade, to name a few. We also partner with Weston Elementary and Middle Schools to create strong pathways and make sure that all young students have a chance and get exposed to the many benefits of Music Education. he Band program at Cypress Bay High School is an amazing place for musical, social, and physical development. It is the home of the acclaimed Sound of Thunder Marching Band, with its talented wind musicians, percussionists and colorguard performers. The program also offers a year-long high quality Concert Band and Jazz program and a Percussion & a Guard winter seasons. Mr. Dawson, Director of Bands, will welcome beginners and experienced students and make sure they thrive musically and academically, and also build life-long friendships and memories in the Sound of Thunder Family! Our 4-year Band & Guard program is also strongly connected to the Cypress Bay Choir and Drama programs, inside a very successful Performing Arts Department!

he Broward Sheriff’s Office Reminds you “See Something Say Something” We often see an increase of smash and grab vehicle burglaries with the start of the school year. It only takes a few moments to smash a vehicle window and remove items of value like purses, wallets, phones and laptops. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Weston District asks that you bring your valuables inside with you when dropping off and picking up children. Always lock your car door, remove the key fobs and make sure items of value are never left in plain sight. Most importantly, you can help us catch these criminals. Eagle Point Foundation is staffed solely by parent volunteers and donations are fully tax-deductible. We hold a variety of events through the year that are aimed at not only raising funds, but giving families an opportunity to have fun together while supporting our school. PTA , Foundation, and volunteers worked together to assemble “First Day Folders” and were present during Meet and Greet the teacher. Our school was selected as a Cambridge Demonstration School for the 2nd consecutive year and recognized for our commitment to achievement. Our new state-of-the-art building is a wonderful addition to our beautiful campus as we welcome our students back to The Bay. I am filled with emotion to know that we have surpassed so many challenges, we continue to learn alongside one another, and remain steadfast in our commitment to providing the highest quality instruction to our students in an engaging and enriching format. In our first year, we focused on “Knowing our Why.” This helped build a dedication to focus on our purpose as educators to cultivate our students into the best versions of themselves. Simultaneously, “Mission Kindness” added layers of appreciation to the uniqueness in us all with love, understanding, and compassion. Most recently, the “Do Better-Be Better” initiative, served as a commitment to build on the successes of Cypress Bay, both institutionally and as individual teachers and staff members, to not simply sustain our accomplishments but to get better each day.
This year, Cypress Bay is committed to intertwining our previous missions of knowing our why, kindness, and doing better and being better into this year’s theme we call “Bay it Forward>>.” A fusion of Paying it forward - a continuation and combination of kindness, knowing our why, and the mission to do better-be better. Join us in forging ahead and strategically moving beyond the previous year’s challenges collaboratively with all community and district stakeholders to cultivate a successful 2021/22 school year. Our school community is ready more than ever to continue to focus on teaching and learning.
